Stayed here for the price since everything else was super expensive. Location is great - right on the water at the end if a great beach. But the hotel itself needs a lot of work. Besides the desk clerk - everyone else seems to prefer to be somewhere else. Rooms are from the 80s. Wifi is very spotty and weak. Will not stay here again.

Had a pleasant stay at Dover Beach hotel. The staff was VERY courteous and the hotel condition is well maintain. Marie (who coordinates the tours) provided lots of useful tips to go around. There's free WIFI in the common areas (lobby, bar) however if you have to use the hotel computer it's outrageously expensive. We stayed in the Calais block (the […] only one with view of the ocean). Our room was comfortable --nothing fancy. It has a kitchenette with mini fridge and 4 burners, and some dishes, cutlery. We didn't like that the queen bed was in fact two twin beds put together as it made it uncomfortable to sleep. TV has limited channels --but who wants to watch tv when you have the ocean nearby?!. We liked the balcony facing the pool with a view of the turquoise ocean. The bar/food service area is nice but has a limited availability of things to eat and drinks -- the worst is that it's only open until 8pm so if you want a drink later to relax you need to get out to the "Lawrence's Gap" or buy something ahead at the supermarket and store it in the fridge. The hotel is 1 block away from Ocean 15 (great place for breakfast or drinks), 2 blocks from a mini-market, 3 blocks from a rental car shop (totally recommend to get a better experience of the island) and walking distance to all the 12+ eateries in the Gap.Tuesday night the hotel had a rumpunch party with small appetizers so had a chance to talk to other guests. I just got back from 8 days in Barbados. I stayed at 3 different places, and the cost for a room in Dover Hotel with a "king bed" (2 singles pushed together) was much better than surrounding hotels. The room was clean, hot water worked (in the morning), the wifi worked (by the pool/bar) and the staff was awesome, super friendly Bajans, and always smiling […] and making jokes. I recommend staying here for a cheaper alternative to nearby hotel/resorts, especially since you can just take a short walk up the beach and hang out at any of the other hotels/bars/beaches in the area. It's not a high luxury place, but if you can get a good deal, it's totally worth it. The location is at the far end of the Gap (about a 5 minute walk) and away from any loud music and bars, and has a great smoothy place right on the same block. Also check out the water sports shop at the hotel next door for good deals... they give you more time for less money than the other guys up at dover beach. Read more

The Dover Beach Hotel is an excellent choice for those who want an affordable getaway. The hotel is located at the edge of the highly popular St. Lawrence Gap. You do not need to rent a car when staying at this hotel. Everything you need is within walking distance. There is a neighborhood supermarket within a 7 minute walk from the hotel. Happy hour specials are from 4:30PM to 5:30PM every day where drinks are half price. The food is very good and reasonably priced. There is free wifi in the common areas: hotel lobby, pool, bar/restaurant, and on the sundeck. The hotel is located right on the ocean. To get to the beach, walk 2 minutes down to the water. The hotel employees are very nice and attentive. They will answer any questions you may have at any time of the day. Housekeeping go far and beyond to make you feel comfortable. Mary at the concierge desk will help you decide what to do and where to go. To go into Barbados capital city of Bridgetown or the fishing town of Oistins, walk 10 minutes to the main road and walk in the direction of the respective town. A mini-van will surely honk at you to see if you want to be picked up. The ride into Bridgetown takes about 20 minutes and to Oistins about 7 minutes. The ride each way costs $1 USD or $2 Barbados dollar. Don’t forget to tip your driver. Back at the hotel, relax at the pool or the beach to take in the sunny skies of Barbados. Beach towels are available for free through the hotel front desk. The airport is a 15 minute car ride away. I highly recommend the Dover Beach Hotel because of the convenient location, friendly staff, clean accommodations, and affordability. Read more

I enjoyed my stay at the Dover Beach Hotel. I slept with my sliding glass door open everynight so I could listen to the waves. My only complaint was the door to my room did not close securely enough for me and I had to put a chair up to the door at night. Will I stay there again...yes I will.

The hotel was nothing special but it was nice enough. Everything was clean and we had everything we needed. We stayed here because the price was so good and we basically got what we paid for. We didn't expect anything fancy but we were happy with what we had. The only thing was the bed was two twin beds pushed together which annoyed me at first but […] it didn't turn out to be a problem or uncomfortable, so it was fine. The hotel room was very big, with a nice balcony and a small amount of kitchen supplies. One tiny detail that bothered me was that there was a kettle and coffee cups but they didn't provide any coffee. The pool area was nice and the beach was nice as well, although you're not supposed to take the hotel lounge chairs onto the beach. I didn't mind because I normally lay on a towel on the beach but I can see that being an inconvenience to others. We were there during a very quiet time, the hotel staff said June and September are their quietest months. We liked the location of the hotel because there are bars and restaurants down the road. There are a few that are about a 5 minute walk and then there's even more that are about 15 minutes down the road. We enjoyed this because we just walked around every night going to dinner and then to bars. Locals approached us on the street everytime we were out there, trying to sell us everything they could. It was a little annoying but they stopped as soon as we said we weren't interested. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. Read more

I stayed 12 nights at the Dover Beach Hotel and it was a very good choice. I felt very welcome, saw smiling faces all the time and the staff was always happy to help or to chat a bit. The room was very clean and attended to every day. I had chosen the more expensive Ocean View Room and would recommend to pay the extra because then you can have breakfast […] on the balcony with a nice view. I give the room a "4" because the mattress sags in the middle and what would have been very useful would be an electric kettle for quick hot water (tea/coffee), a bread knife, a wooden spoon for cooking pasta/soup and a foldable cloth dryer for the balcony as I always had a few sweaty cloth items which I had to put on the chairs and on the balcony rail for drying. For a surcharge I could have used the safe in the room but I did not fancy to carry an extra key with me (if it would be a code safe I would have used it). The hotel had a pool which looked good and clean (closed over night unfortunately) but also direct access to the beach so at day I would not need the pool. Great beach but do not try to swim at night because there is a bit of a current and also some rocks. It is however a great beach. I rate the hotel infrastructure a "4" because the Internet was quite unstable (free however) in the room and they close the pool over night. What is missing are a few steps of the stairs to the beach and scales in the lobby where you can weigh your luggage before departure. Read more
