Excelsior Hotel Ernst - Cologne 50.94181, 6.95631

I chose the Excelsior because of it's longstanding history and its vicinity to the centre of Cologne town. The room was superb, service was superb. I asked the porter to deliver a desert to our room at 1 in the morning and a lovely platter of fresh fruit and petit fours and belgian chocolates arrived within 10 minutes. We had a room on the top floor with a great view of the Cathedral. The room also had a free bar which I have never heard of before and very unusual. The hotel is close to the train station and in walking distance of absolutely everything you would want to see and do. I also had a chance to see where some of the other hotels were placed and I was glad I picked the Exelsior as some of the other hotels looked more like hostels than hotels. The check-out time of 1pm is also a plus. As we had an evening flight, the hotel looked after our luggage until we were ready to collect. All in all it was well worth every penny and more.

We stayed for 3 nights at the Excelsior Hotel Ernst and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were in a room round the back and it was really quiet. The only problem we had was with the shower. There is definitely a design fault in that if you turn on the shower full there is a gap and the water pours out on to the floor!! Once we had sussed this out everything was fine!! Bed very comfortable. The staff were very nice and extremely helpful. We didn't eat in the hotel so can't comment on the food.The hotel is very near the station and the cathedral which is magnificent. We went on a trip on the Rhine. We went by train to Linz and then got the boat back. We enjoyed it very much although the most beautiful part is from Linx to Konigswinter, it gets more industrial as you get near Cologne.

This hotel continues to delight and surprise as the levels of service and attention to detail improve year after yearl The rooms are comfortable and well proportioned and the food options are delightful, the service is world class and every member of staff seems to light-up when a guest moves within 'range'.

Excelsior Hotel Ernst was first class from top to bottom. It is perfectly located next to the Cathedral Dome, train station, and city center. There are other nice hotels in the area but none can match the elegance, style and service of the Excelsior. Upon my early arrival, the front desk manager accommodated my request for an early check in so I could freshen up and get over to the convention center. The room was nice but dated so when leaving I asked for one of the newly remodeled rooms. Fabio later came through and personally took me to my new room. This room (#425) was one of the best rooms I have ever been in from “top to bottom”. DB (Baton Rouge, LA.)

I can't say enough good things. My only suggestion is that you bring a significant other. I stayed with my best friend and found it a bit too romantic.

Most old-school luxurious Hotel in center of city within walking distance of all main attractions. Make sure you request your room in the new wing as this will make the difference in your stay at this hotel, specially during hot days of summer, since the older outdated rooms only have ventilation and no a/c. By the way: if you want the best upscale German food of the city, you don't have to go anywhere, as there is the Hanserstube" in-house, which is excellent!!!!

This hotel was absoutley incredible! Location, appearance, ammenities, room size, everything was simply outstanding!

Great location

It has a GREAT location, next to the cathedral (dom) and the train station, and the tourist info offices. We went there for the Christmas markets and all were easily walkable from our location. We also used the fitness & spa center, which was very relaxing. It appears to be basically co-ed and pretty open, but we were the only ones in there. One employee did get VERY VERY offended because we had brought McDonalds take away to a quiet corner of the lobby because our room was not ready on time, but other than that the hotel staff was faboulous. Will go here again and recommend to all. (long story why we were eating McDonalds in Germany, so don't get offended!)

My wife and I reserved a deluxe room with a king bed, and the room we recived had two twins pushed together, and was depressing and probably had not been updated for decades. I asked if we could have another room, especially since we would be there two weeks. They gave us a better room with king size bed. On their website, they show no such rooms, but instead a standard room nicer than our second, and a deluxe much better. I would never book there without knowing exactly what room I would get, given the huge difference in quality, as the first was unacceptable, and the second barely so, and still not in keeping with a 5 star property.

I have already read good reviews about this hotel and it certainly met all my expectations. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable. The beds were very good and you can select a different kind of pillow if you wish. The breakfast is ok. We had dinner at the Asian restaurant and it is really good though it is not cheap. The location couldn't be better, across the street from the Cathedral. They take your car and park it for you. When we checked out they had already the car waiting and they put all our bags for us in the car. I would say the best thing was the excellent service with a friendly attitude from everyone. We will definitely come back.

Hotel and staff were excellent. The only criticism would be the cost of eating in the hotel restaurant and the lack of tea and/or coffee making facilities in the rooms.

Excellent service! The concierge was particularly great, although there was only a concierge until early evening.

I have stayed at this hotel in the past and would always recommend this hotel to others. The staff is friendly, efficient, and always helpful. You are right across from the Kolner Dom and the Koln main train station.

This hotel exceeding my expectations. The service was totally amazing. The staff made us feel like royalty. The hotel was centrally located to all the main attractions. I want to go back!!!! I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

Vi försökte hitta ett ord för detta 5-stjärniga hotell och kom fram till anrikt, det är ett hotell med anor. Det må vara 5 stjärnor men nybyggda hotell med 3-4 stjärnor slår högre med tanke på standard/inredning. Rummen är stora och rymliga, personalen servicemindedn som sig bör. Frukostpriset på 27 Euro är inte försvarbart. Jag ger det centrala läget 6 stjärnor! Tar ca 10 min att komma till mässan som ligger på andra sidan vattnet. 1 min så är du på gågatan i city.

Een mooi hotel met uitstekende serviice. De ligging is optimaal .Behalve het geluid van de kerkklokken, wat wij helemaal niet storend vonden,een en al rust.. De service is van hoog niveau en attent.. Je krijgt het gevoel dat je echt welkm ben!

Gammeldags rominndeling og stil. Teppe på gulv veldig slitt. Interiør slitt. For øvrig veldig bra standard og servicevennlig og hyggelig betjening.
