I really enjoyed the stay at Sofitel Faubourg. The location is excellent. I booked a luxury room, but later upgraded to a collection suite. The hotel is quiet and the service was excellent. Will definitely be back to stay there again.

The only thing was that I thought the standard deluxe room I had originally was very small for the price I paid, so I negociate with the front desk and paid extra to upgrade to an executive suite, but it was totally worth it. This is a very upscale hotel. It is just off the lower end of the Champs Elysees. It is very secure as the street is under high security protection on both ends. This part of the street cannot be driven without approval from security guards. It is in an upscale neighborhood with Cartier, LaPerla and Hermes as its immediate neighbors. When we left our room for any period of time, it was checked and straightened up when we returned. That was a mind blower for us. The only down side was the hotel restaurant. It was pricey and the selections for breakfast were minimal and disappointing. Our overall stay was fantastic and this hotel made our trip more enjoying. This hotel was awesome! Great service and very friendly staff. They all went out of their way to accomodate us (ie. we forgot a converter and they loaned us one for the week). The area is beautiful and conveniently located. Metro is around the corner. Many places, ie. Champs Elysees are walking distance. Rue de Rivoli is right around the corner and there are tons of places to eat and shopping along there. Downside is the rooms are small, but they are very clean and modern-looking. Everyone in the hotel speaks English, which was very helpful. The hotel has a business center with only 1 computer and internet access is VERY expensive. If you need internet, bring a laptop and you have wi-fi access in your room. You can also make local calls from the business center or international calls using a calling card, rather than in your room so you don't get charged. Overall, very pleased with this hotel and when I travel again, I would like to stay at another Sofitel, as this is a chain. Read more

The location of this hotel cannot be beaten. Not only are you close to everything, but you are across from the US Embassy. This means that the street is always blocked off, making the street in front of the hotel always quiet and serene. We used the concierge quite a bit at the hotel. The concierge was quite good about making reservations, but don't […] expect him to make a lot of good suggestions. Better just to tell him where you want reservations and when. The other problem we had was that the concierge did not know that all museums were free on Bastille Day. Thus, we bought a 2-day pass that we did not even need! DO NOT eat at the hotel restaurant. It is such a ripoff. 25 euros for a bread basket and coffee! Much better deal to walk 2 blocks and have (much better) coffee, breads, eggs, and fruit at Laduree. Even better, walk only one block and have breads and coffee for only 5 euros at Bread and Roses. We also had a couple of service irregularities. We did not always get water in our room every day. One day, the cleaning people knocked a contact case down the sink and left it. Nothing terrible, but several annoyances. Again, though, if you are familiar with Paris and don't need good service and the extra amenities, the location makes it one of the best places to stay. Read more

The first room we were given was dated, very small, and the TV did not work. We asked for a better room and were "upgraded". Again a bit dated but a considerable improvment. However when we tried watch a film on the pay TV it took 3 visits from a staff member to fix the system (16 euro for one film). Then we tried to have a bottle of champagne from […] the mini bar only to find there were no glasses. As we were already sick of calling reception for help we gave up on the champagne. Obviously the film and the champagne were all on our bill when we came to check out even though we did not receive them. This is supposed to be a 5 star Hotel and the Sofitel in Amsterdam is my favourite hotel. But the rooms and faciliaties are dated and poor. 3 star at best. Read more

Sofitel is a chain that we like and so we booked for a couple of nights to celebrate a friend's 50th birthday. Let's start with the good aspects. As always, the lobby area was nicely designed and the desk staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant and bar were similarly attractive although service at breakfast was definitely on the slow side, with […] a "not my job" attitude when chased up. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. HOWEVER, the corridors looked very tired, as did the room furniture. The room, supposedly a junior suite, was no bigger than a large king size with a single sink bathroom. I requested shoe shine service and my shoes were in the same place outside the door, uncleaned, in the morning. One of the lifts was out of service all day and lift service was very slow, with no obvious signage for the stair alternative. Lastly, the fee for the internet was €24 a day which was high enough to be annoying. Funnily enough, we have stayed at Sofitels in Amsterdam and in the UK and they have been great. Unfortunately, in spite of the superb location, this is just not in the same league. Read more
