Literally 'Great East Gate', this is a popular shopping area with many upscale malls and the vast Dongdaemun Market, which takes up entire city blocks devoted to discounted clothes, accessories and household items. The area is also home to several universities, giving it a lively and youthful atmosphere.

The highlight was a gracious, helpful staff; the room price was fair; we appreciated the quiet room that we requested; the included breakfast options good, but tv in the concierge lounge was unpleasant. Decent health club, but crowded with outsiders.

The hotel took extraordinary steps to accommodate us when my spouse got sick and had to be hospitalized. Their courtesy and service was outstanding. Location is excellent. We're glad we didn't book a downtown hotel. There are at least 3 convenience stores nearby, the Dongguk University subway station is 2 minutes away, and down the street from the university is a strip with many restaurants frequented by students/lunch crowd. Proximity to the subway will get you almost anywhere you want to go in Seoul. The room itself was very clean, modern, had everything we needed.

Very stingily to charge the guests for Internet usage. Internet included in the room charge is standard now days but not in this hotel. Otherwise a nice hotel.

The hotel certainly exceeded our expectations. The staff were very helpful and in spite of some language barriers (we don't speak Korean, more's the pity) they gave us all the information we needed. I would definitely recommend this hotel to any traveler.

The whole experience was amazing in this hotel. The staff were so helpful and pleasant. I got an upgrade becasue I was an ACCOR member and had a lovely high floor room. The gym is excellent. The restaurants are hugely expensive and you can more cheaply anywhere outside. Morninf coffee and bread worked out at $8 which isnt so bad. Service again was amazing. I whoelheartedly recommend this hotel from start to finish.

I found the Sofitel to be excellent value and the service was 5 star. Definitely want to go back there. Free hourly shuttles to major areas of Seoul and very clean and professional. We came from the UK and now realise we dont get what we pay for in old blighty.

I was very satisfied with my stay at the Sofitel, the rooms were large and nice and the internet was relatively cheap. The immediate neighborhood was kind of sleepy but it is close to the subway and a cheap cab ride to Seoul's hotspots.

This hotel was excellent value and ten minutes walk from Myeongdong and Dongdaemun. The pool and gym facilities were excellent and the size of the rooms were great. I paid nearly 40 quid more for a room at the Seoul Plaza and the room was less than half the size. Staff were friendly and helpful - suggest this hotel if you want to stay downtown.

However, the price for food inside the hotel restaurants were quite high, especially for the quality and quantity of the food. But, there are affordable and good little restaurants down the street as this hotel is next to a University.
