Overall rating is good, but It can provide transport to railway station, it will help the tourist, of first comer, the taxi may not know about this new hotel at all.

The hotel was located close to the subway station. About 10 minutes. This was very helpful. The hotel provided a free shuttle to the canton fair also. The front view from the room was great. There are no shuttle services to the hotel from the airport in any china hotels. The websites has false information The airport taxi charged us 400RMP which was too high but we had no choice since we were new and reached at the airport around 9.45pm. On our way back to the airport the taxi charged us 150RMP

I had very wonderful time while I was in China. This hotel treated us very royal. Will stay again and again.
Location
Accessible by its own approach road and right on the Pearl River, the hotel stands in the colonial enclave of Shamian Island just over half km (0.4 mi) from Qingping Market. Six Banyon Tree Temple and Flower Pagoda is 3 km (1.9 mi), the Museum and Tomb of the Southern Yue Kings is less than 4 km (2.3 mi), and Guangzhou Zoo is 8 km (4.7 mi).
Hotel Features
A magnificent Chinese junk made of jade stands in the atrium-style lobby of the White Swan, which also features rockery, a waterfall, pond, and pavilion. Sweeping views of the Pearl River can be seen from the lobby and many of the 10 restaurants. The hotel has a conference and business center, an on-site clinic, beauty center, and a shopping arcade filled with Chinese antiques and furnishings. Two outdoor swimming pools, squash courts, a fitness center and a health center with spa pool and sauna (and steam room in the men's section) add to the facilities. The Club de Shanghai bar has billiards, air hockey, and other amusement arcade games.
Guestrooms
The White Swan has 843 guestrooms that are partly carpeted and partly tiled, with pastel décor and Chinese prints. Sweeping views of the Pearl River or Shamian Island and city can be seen from the guestrooms, which include desks with high-speed Internet access, minibars, refrigerators, complimentary bottled water, and coffee/tea kettles. Cable/satellite TV channels include HBO and other premium channels, as well as Hong Kong, Japanese, French, and German channels. Bathrooms have black-and-white trim, gold-colored fittings and white marble floors, plus extra-large towels.

Silkroad Grill Room - Western cuisine with French and U.S.s influences. Fine wines. Western setting, with small candlelit tables. Open for lunch and dinner.
River Garden Coffee Shop - Busy buffet venue for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as afternoon tea. Asian and Western cuisine. Overlooks river on one side, and atrium garden with waterfall on the other.
Song Bird Living Room - Casual second floor restaurant overlooking river and atrium garden. Armchairs and low tables. Caged songbirds compete with a piano player. Small buffet breakfasts, lunches and dinners, afternoon teas, refreshments, and cocktails.
International Banquet Hall - Hosts Cantonese conference banquets for up to 600. At other times, small screens divide the space into informal areas offering dim sum and light Cantonese food. Open all day.
Tao Tao Ting Function Rooms - Four rooms with Chinese décor, stained glass panels, and sofas. When not in use for business functions, offers private dining. Cocktails and Cantonese food; other cuisines on request for business functions only.
Hare and Moon Bar - Lobby bar with wines, spirits, and snacks. River views and Chinese-style furnishings. Open mid-morning until late.
River Garden Barbecue - Riverside buffet dinners. Informal setting with wrought-iron furniture. International cuisine. Outdoors; operates in fine weather only.
Deli Shop - Pastries, salads, hot and cold drinks.
The White Swan has two outdoor swimming pools, one freeform for relaxation and the other for exercising/lap swimming. The health club offers a fitness center with aerobics classes, as well as a spa tub and sauna. The men's section also has a steam room.
Shamian Island is a quiet residential area with limited traffic. Its tree-lined streets and riverside promenade provide good walking and jogging venues. Locals also do their exercises and tai chi early in the morning, and there is a children's playground. Several tennis courts are available for hire. The Guangzhou Luhu Golf and Country Club is 7.5 km (4.6 miles) from the hotel. Visits can be arranged through the hotel and cost RMB 300–500 (US$37–$62) per round per person for nine holes, RMB 350–600 (US$44–$72) for 18 holes (including the green fee, but not cart and caddie). Everything was good, except Internet. They should give free wireless in the rooms also ....
"Still a must-stay"
Yes, I know it's cliched that U.S. adoptive families stay at the White Swan... but we still really enjoyed our visit when we returned to China for a heritage trip this summer. The breakfast buffet is still great. The views are still great from the upper floors. Service was still extremely prompt and courteous. The rooms are a little dated, but someone […] said the entire hotel is getting a facelift next year. The White Swan is pricey than some of the other options, but it has a sort of stately charm that really blends well with the colonial-era character of the Shamian Island neighborhood where it is located. I was very impressed by the concierge's services. They were very professional and verified ID to ensure the right person picked up the checked luggage. All my valuable left inside the bag was intact when I retrieved it.

We love that the hotel is located right by the river side with nice view, especially at night. We also like the huge public area with waterfall, the swiming pool, the barbacue area., the park .... The staff is very nice and helpfull. The hotel is not in downtown, but it is easy the catch a taxi to go around.

We stayed in the White Swan for three nights while we were doing the second leg of the Canton Fair. We switched hotels in between the first and second session of the show to mix it up and see a different side of the city. For the first session we stayed at the Chinese Hotel by Marriott which was a much better deal, and a much nicer room (and soft beds!!)but […] not in as nice of a neighborhood. To sum up the White Swan, it was a very nicely placed hotel right on the water, and in a french quarter part of China, which was very nice, but the room was a little worse for wear. For example the carpets needed a cleaning, the tub didn't quite drain while you were taking a shower and the beds were rock hard. For the kind of money that we paid for that room the beds should have been an upgrade from the typical Chinese beds. The restaurants were delicious in the hotel but really really expensive. On the upside where the hotel was located was really cool. Lot's of shopping within walking distance, and we took a ferry boat to the show instead of a hot bus, which was really refreshing. I have to admit that if they would have changed the mattresses I would have given the hotel a recommendation, but that was the deal breaker for us. Read more
Beautiful hotel, great customer service, free airport and train station shuttle, excelent location within walking distance from restaurants and shops, located at the riverfront with outstanding view. I'd love to stay there again in the future
"Charging for every little thing"
My last stay at the White Swan was disappointing. Let me start with the laundry service in the hotel. It cost me $70. When I went outside the hotel it cost me $8. a little bit of a difference? To rent a dvd player they charged by the hour. To talk in the business center (I use to call home via skype), costs money. The location was out of the city, so […] in order to shop or go to the zoo, it was a drive. The housekeeping personnel were great! They helped in anyway they could. "White Swan authentic and comfortable"
During several previous trips to Guangzhou, I've always been uncomfortable and plagued with digestive troubles. My experience at the White Swan was the opposite. Delicious food, attentive service, without the blandness of a American chain hotel. All in all, a lovely stay. The island is a perfect place for runners or walkers -- tree-lined streets, quiet, […] without traffic. A new subway station, under construction, is extremely convenient. In a city that I think is one of the most unfriendly and "cold" in China, the White Swan is a welcome harbor to escape to. Once you walk in, you see one of the most beautiful lobbies, with a three story waterfall, and a very knowledgeable and expert staff to assist you.. The rooms are large, and very comfortable. One note, if you are looking for an […] extra-quiet atmosphere, I would suggest upgrading to an executive room, for just a little more- you will be treated like a King (or Queen). Also, this is a common hotel for people adopting children from China, so there are a lot of families staying there, and the executive floor would give a better separation from the noise of some of the families with young children....but don't let this deter you, this is a great hotel, and I will definitely stay there again. "Not an ugly duckling"
I have stayed at the Swan several times and I am reminded of the fairy tale, the ugly duckling, because the building looks sort of drab as you pull up to it, that old Chinese type exterior. But once inside this hotel is great. The lobby is exotic, the selection of restaurants is excellent, the staff is polite and competent and the rooms are about the […] best I have found in Guangzhou. For the intrepid the area a few blocks in back of the hotel is tremendous for getting a feel for street markets and beyond that an area of high tech shopping. A good price performer. The doorman was quite concerned that we wanted a cab and were not sure where we wanted to go. He said "I hope you can make yourself understood" and gave us a card with the hotel name on it. He was relieved when my son told him, in Mandarin, that he was fluent. I guess they dont meet many westerners who are. Read more

"Very nice hotel"
Hotel conditions good. Friendly and efficient staff. Heard that it would be temporarily closed for renovation. I would like to stay in the hotel again after it has taken on a new look and hope that its high standard service could be maintained.
"Room Service and shutle bus"
Room service is very expensive and it should cut 50% of the prices. Shuttle bus service is good but need to be more frequent. There should be between 10:45 and 2:30 and between 16:45 and 18:30.
"Executive Suite is a spacious and well appointed"
The suite I got through Hotels.com was a great deal... lots of space, incredible view of the river (and the opposite river shore, which is where the action is!), and fast internet. I was, however, very disappointed in the quality of the food. That's the same almost wherever you go in China though... the quality of the ingredients just isn't good. Also, […] don't ever think about ordering the American breakfast there! It tastes like it was cooked in the bathroom of a truckstop diner, with over-easy eggs cooked worse than the first breakfast my wife cooked for me. (Her cooking is much, much better now!) The sausage tasted like pigeon meat, and the bacon was allowed to soak in grease after it was cooked, giving it a nasty taste. It would have been nice if the hotel was on the other side of the river where the bar street is, but otherwise it was a pretty good location with nearby restaurants (clean ones!) and access to the river. "White Swan - Top Hotel"
Very nice experience, hotel staff friendly, everything clean. The only thing I can complain about is the price of food and drinks. Extremely expensive, but there is a Deli located at the back of the hotel and a restaurant walking distance that serves steak and hamburgers at a very affordable price.

I particularly enjoy the staffs in which I found them very professional and they were able to provide sight seeing information in detail. Tip for next visitor: the hotel would offer pick up service from GZ East station if you call them in advance. Also they have regular but not so frequent shuttle bus service from the hotel to the station.

"Отель "Белый лебедь" в Гуанчжоу"
Место расположения -удачное, прекрасное место для прогулок, одно из красивейших мест города. Отель полностью оправдывает свои 5 звезд. Отличные завтраки-вкусно и разнообразно. Персонал знает свое дело и постоянно готов помочь. По вечерам в баре тихая живая музыка, женщина за роялем прекрасно исполняет на английском. Достойный выбор.

Ein erstklassiges five star hotel in einem außergewöhnlich schönenem Kolonialviertel mit parkähnlichem Charakter gelegen. Allein der Innenhof des Hotesl mit seinem Wasserfall und dem großen Koiteich ist ein Besuch wert. Auch sonst stimmt alles.
