"Classic & convenient to Los Angeles Conv Ctr"
Great hotel, pretty lobby. Value priced, clean and comfortable. Walking distance to Los Angeles Convention Center. WiFi slow at times. Check-in process took 30-40 minutes (very manual process, inexplicable). Other than that staff pleasant and would stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient to Downtown/Good Value"
Stay was uneventful. The shower doesn't know whether it is a shower or a bath. It's sort of dangerous as it has a small pseudo-seat (really a bump in the floor) that takes up half the shower. For someone who is 5'11, it's not easy to stand on the seat and put one's head under the shower. The shower floor part of the shower is too small for someone with […] size 11 feet. Point is that it neither a convenient shower or bath. Water pressure was great, which is always a plus. Some might be deterred by the neighborhood, but I wasn't. It was convenient to downtown and the convention center (I walked downtown from the hotel). Overall, it was a relatively good value. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"sub-par service, good location"
Service is hit or miss. some of the bad: Reception picks up every other call you make from your room; wake-up call requested from them never happened for us or our friend staying in another room, some rooms/bathrooms can have oddly small floor plans, $15/night charge for them to turn on the fridge for use (which we declined of course!) was simply outrageous! […] The good: they usually respond positively to demands, location is very convenient if you need to get anywhere downtown, breakfast & parking are OK too. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is in need of a major renovation....it is run down, paint peeling, old, sparse and not place I would stay. the room itself looked clean but the bathroom left something to be desired in terms of cleanliness. I did not feel comfortable sleeping in the bed as I was afraid of bed bugs. Would never stay there again!!!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not so great"
I stayed there for the location because it was walking distance to Staples Center. I was in town for a Kings game. The room is not worth $116. When I checked in there was a puddle of water (I hope) in front of the toilet. The bathtub had the grip stickers on the bottom to keep you from slipping. They were stained gray. The carpet had all kinds of interesting […] stains. One of the electrical outlets didn't work. The air conditioner must have been out of freon because I was sweating all night. If you're just looking for a drunken place to flop then it will suffice. Just don't go in there with any expectations of getting your money's worth. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great lobby, poor rooms"
I came here hoping for a step up from a Motel 8 but got basically that. Except for the beautiful lobby and outside architecture this was one of my first big booking disappointments. The shower was absurdly small, with the shower heard only going up to my neck. The room had paint chipping off the wall and it just felt dirty. One of the reasons I chose […] this hotel was because it had exercise equipment however all of it was in woeful disrepair. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Best for the price"
I was in LA for couple of days and wanted some good but cheap hotel. The ambiance was very good. Location was perfect as it is Downtown. have some good shopping malls (Macy's and all) in walk able distance.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel to stay for a couple days."
It was nice for my daughter and I. We were there for a concert and the room was pleasant. Not very close to areas to get a quick bite, but overall was a great stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Stay away better hotels around"
They say it's historic but it's just old and run down. I called before I booked on hotels.com to ask if they had smoking rooms they said yes then when I booked it said non smoking. I called back they called me a liar wouldn't give me my money back so I had to stay. I got the counter he said it was a 50 dollar deposit. I gave him my card he charged me […] for 100 dollars. The room was only 79.00. I said excuse me you said it was 50 dollars he said sorry it will be back in your account in 2 to 3 business days nonchalantly. What I f I didn't have and extra 50 dollars what if I was saving money for my trip there. It was Saturday I probably won't see that money till I get back home from my trip. Horrible hospitality. Mean people dirty rooms. Crazy people every time you walk out the door. I would advise people not to stay here. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Creepy old hotel with dirty furnishinngs and linen"
Here was anothe instant where I locked in what I thought was a good price for what was described to be a beautiful historic classic. In reality that room had not been updated since the 1980's and the mattress/linens/ bed skirts were all dirty white with stains! The mactress's are well past their prime and the whole room felt dirty and seedy. The bathroom […] is so small that I could barely turn around in it. Couldn't wait to get out. "Basic lodging at a good price"
Parking is enclosed with 24-hour attendant. The hotel common areas are pleasant. The front door and the desk is staffed at all hours. The rooms are very basic with old basic desk, chair, bed. The bathroom is small and basic but comes with all necessary amenitites. The air conditioner/heater was working well. It is a good value as most hotels in this […] area are in the $200 and up range. "Not a 2.5 star"
Hotel room was filthy. Bathroom was literally unusable. I am 5' 8' and 155lbs and had to squeeze into the bathroom. Great access to downtown, but neighborhood around is dangerous after dark, and very limited food options. Choose something else.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I had a reservation at this hotel. I arrived at the hotel at 10:00am and was told there may be a room available between 12:30 to 1:30. Checked back at 1:00 and they said that there wouldn't be any rooms available until 3:00 and that was their policy. There was a lobby full of people waiting. There were people napping on the floor and in every available […] chair. Then of course at 3:00 there was a mad dash to get checked in. The rooms were dirty, the rugs and couches were dirty. The bathrooms were OK. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean but torn. I would NEVER go back to this hotel!!!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Just what we needed"
Fair price. Just what we needed. A place to sleep and shower. located in a great spot if your going to LA Live. There is No Early check-in, so don't waste your time showing up before 3. Staff treated us great!!Genuine Expedia guest review
For the price it was great the day staff is much better then the night staff but overall I would recommend this hotel if you have to stay downtown!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Historic Mayfair....real rating."
The Mayfair hotel was a rather old building. However, it was much better than anticipated. The location was a 10 minute walk from downtown LA and the Staples Center. Great value and location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Looks good from outside but very poor inside"
Front desk under staffed, so no response to calls. Misdirected me when I ask for breakfast coupons, extremely poor bathrooms, noisy ACs.Genuine Expedia guest review
The parking fee should be include in reservation instead of charge $45.00 dollars to park your car on the hotel facility. I used a parking lot 2 blocks away x $20.00 x the 3 days I stay in it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"No Major Complaint Here"
Good location and overall clean hotel. The staff was friendly although apparently overwhelmed. My room had a hardwood floor that seemed to have been done recently. The wheeled bed frame kept moving on the slippery floor every time I turned on my bed. Also, the frame was loud and squeaky. Other than that, I think it's good quality for the price. I would […] definitely go there again; I'll just ask for a more comfortable room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Isn't horrible- good for price"
A girlfriend and I stayed here when we were going to a concert at Club Nokia. Super inexpensive and worth not driving back to the oc!!! Elevators are super sketchy haha- hotel staff said they have been around since the 1920s and no one has died.... Yet. Room was mediocre at best. Don't come here expecting It to be as fancy as the Aria or Cosmo. It had […] a bed, it had a bathroom, it had a fridge and microwave. To be honest- we only were there to get ready and have a place to sleep. So it did the job. Has underground, secured parking- which is a plus since the location is a little ghetto. The hotel staff is amazing! Very friendly and accommodating. Best part was the location - only a $5 uber ride!!! Would I stay again? Yes. Would it ever exceed my expectations. Prob not. "Euro Room Getaway"
I stayed on a wednesday/thurs in the Mini Euro room. It was the perfect size for me and my husband, with beautiful close up views of Downtown as well as the mountains on two sides. We wanted something in the hustle of the city and it did perfectly with big open windows you can stick your head out of and watch the city move all night below. The bathroom […] was quite small (hence Mini) but even though the tub had an awkward shape it was deep enough to make it work for at least one of us at a time (I'm 5'9 by the way). The decor is very old school (hence Historic) but comforting, and was as clean as your average hotel. Most of the clerks were very polite and upbeat and patiently answered all our questions. It felt like a little hideaway close enough to the freeways taking us to all our adventures and thats exactly what we were looking for. Overall we very much enjoyed our stay and I would reccomend it to anyone on a budget or traveling alone. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"At the outskirt"
My stay at this place was decent. I was thrown off by the fee for a deposit on a KEY CARD($100). The room was clean and the housekeepers will clean up the room regardless how many days you stay. The location was on the outskirt of downtown, but is on a bus line. LA LIVE is about a 10 minute walk or hop a bus, I chose to walk. The bathroom will be a […] problem for anyone over 300 lbs. The neighborhood isn't as bad as most describes it to be. Again the hotel is not in the main corridor of downtown LA, where I wanted to be, but it'll do. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"24 hour trip"
A friend and I were in town overnight for the Tigers/Dodgers ball game. It was a short trip and after the amount of money we spent on our tickets we needed to find a place that was reasonably priced and centrally located without worrying about being accosted while walking through the surrounding neighborhood. This hotel met all of our expectations. […] The parking was plentiful and safe for $12 per day, come and go privilege. The front desk was very friendly and helpful. Our room was a European mini suite and was small with nothing fancy but, it had everything we needed and was exactly what we were expecting. We walked with no problem to the heart of downtown for lunch and then easily took an über taxi to the game for about $10 each way. The only things worth noting... If you are a "bigger" person you may have trouble closing the door in the bathroom or taking a shower in the smaller than usual tub/shower. Also, the a/c didn't cool the room very well. Not bad enough to complain about but it was not blowing very cool. Overall our stay was just about what we expected for the price. Good place to stay on a quick trip if location and budget are important. I don't think I would stay for a romantic get away or a family vacation unless you plan to be out of the hotel other than sleeping. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
It used to be a beautiful, old hotel built in the 1920's, however, it hasn't been maintained or loved as it should. Lacks a lot - cleanliness, food and beverage, amenities, etc. It lacks a lot but if you're restricted by funds, and don't have many options, look for the old elegance and get creative with considering what it might have been it's heyday. "Crazy small rooms with "I can hear everyone""
It was really really BAD. I don't want anyone to go here. You will stay awake all night!Genuine Expedia guest review
The person that waited on is had no personality! The first room he assigned had 2 twin size beds? Wth? They charged an $10 up charge for a larger bed when I am only 5'10 200 ilbs? Not good!! Besides that the bed felt like I was sleeping on the floor. Me belief is that mattress had been around for at least 50 years. It's a real dump!!!Genuine Expedia guest review
Booked through Hotels.com and was given a room with 2 twin beds and the room was as big as my closet with paper thin walls. Then we were told that they was no cancellation policy. Had to go thru Hotels.com to get it all cleared up.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Mayfair was by far my least favorite hotel stay - right when we got to the front door the whole place smelled of cigarettes. Drove six hours long to come out for a baseball game in Los Angeles just to have the front clerk be rude and unprofessional about the dodgers. Was not impressed with his service AT ALL. Although the lobby seemed welcoming, once we stepped into our hotel room, our opinions quickly changed. The bathrooms were old and the sewage smelled awful. The facilities seemed warn out. The beds were creaky were somewhat comfortable, but weren't a good fit.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Better than remebered"
I had stayed in this Hotel before and was not impressed. This time i got a "blind" booking from Expedia. (You agree to a price and Expedia chooses the hotel.) "Not what I expected"
I thought the hotel was going to be pretty compared to others but I was completely mistaken. It's carpets were dirty and the bathrooms stinks and were stained. In addition, the holt guaranteed us specific room characteristics and denied it when we asked for them. The staff never smiled and seemed as if they drained working there. The desk person, his name badge says John, when we checked in was not cordial. He wasn't offering the customers a smile, perhaps it was late in the evening. The commendable part was the water in the shower, it was forceful!Genuine Expedia guest review
"L A 1st time experience!"
The historical building speaks of its own. My favorite part through out my stay is the beautiful Lobby, pretty, sophisticated, elegant. Staff are very nice and polite. The "ice machine" located on my floor, it's a plus and a life saver especially if your room does not come with a fridge. The room needs TLC, need change carpet it can look old but dirty […] old, need presentable bed sheets, I like the bathroom, very clean toilet. I would consider booking this hotel again in the future. Don't stay here. I read the bad reviews but assumed they were from people not familiar with an inexpensive hotel in an urban area. Wrong. Rude front desk staff, slow check in, faulty door locks, stains, holes in everything and bad patch jobs, non working machines in the fitness center, dirty inside and out. The only good things about this hotel is location, […] the lobby and the security guard at the front door who was friendly and helpful. Don't make the same mistake I did. Stay somewhere else.
