Arrived much later than expected due to flooding at Dublin Airport so restaurant closed, however staff more than happy to supply drinks and sandwiches at short notice. Pleasantly surprised at standard of room. Bed was big, clean and very comfortable. Individual shower and separate bath, nice fluffy towels. Swimming Pool excellent, clean and not too cold, even at 7 in the morning, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna very good. Did not attend the spa although plenty on offer if you fancy indulging. Train station five minutes walk and trains to Dublin fairly frequent (approx 15 mins weekdays 30 mins Sundays)journey to Tara Street (closest to centre of town) takes 20-25minutes. Did not eat in the restaurant so cannot comment although had a few drinks in the bar which had plenty of seating and service was excellent. Had afternoon tea and coffee including scone with clotted cream and jam which was delicious! Common areas of the hotel, reception, lobby and lounge were clean and very impressive. Comfy couches in lounge.

It was a simply a lovely hotel, great room, fitness center, and pool area. Hot tub, wet and dry sauna, the works. The resturant was a bit on the overpriced and the food was marginal, but the service was good. The Gastropub and the Toscana Restaurant nearby was much better in terms of portions and quality. You can't beat the location and the DART ride into the city along the Irish Sea is breathtaking. We plan to make it our Official hotel in Dublin and will be back very soon. I was totally impressed and to think, almost canceled because it was not close to downtown, which would have been a big mistake! I found a jewel!!!

The refurnished Hotel really was immaculate and definetly has retained an air of elegance about it. Unfortunately due to family bereavement our stay was cut short. My partner and I stayed at the Royal Marine on the 26th Jan for three nights. We are familiar with Dublin as we have family there. We got a really good deal and the hotel was very good. Our room was a good size with lovely furnishings and a comfortable bed, the bathroom was great and the whole hotel was very clean and well presented - I think it's just been fully refurbished. We didn't use or see the leisure facilites so we can't comment on that. We stayed on a room only rate because the breakfasts were far to expensive at 21.50 euro each! We found a great little cafe called Harry's just around the corner with perfect breakfasts for half the price. We had two bar meals which were fine, but I felt the menu was a little limited. The only other downside was the price of the parking - also 21 euro per day which we thought was very expensive - and it wasn't explained to us so be aware of that. Overall though, we would be back. It's perfect for getting into the city centre as the dart station is just down the road. The staff were all very helpfull, nothing was any trouble and they were all very polite. A lovely hotel.

Beautiful location, but further out of the city center than I realized. Reception was a long way from the front door, with no obvious staff in sight. Room overlooked large trash bin area (no ocean view with discounted room price.) Expensive to get back into the city by taxi - about 25 euros - or take the tram, but as it was raining every day, the tram was too crowded. The room itself was fine - clean, great mattress, thick towels. Pricey but nice hotel. The hotel bar was convenient, but stick to drinks, not food. Breakfast was about 18 euros ea. and not included in our room rate.

On arrival we were amazed that we had been given such a huge room - everything about it was stunning - I wish my room at home was exactly like it! During our stay we used the leisure facilities and contrary to other reports we were told that it was not necessary to wear flip-flops although a swimming cap was compulsory in the swimming pool only - not the steam room, jacuzzi etc. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would have no hesitation in returning.

We took the DART to the center of Dublin in about 25-30 minutes. They have free underground parking at the hotel. We rented a car for the golf courses. Also, there is a bus service available to and from the airport. The hotel staff is very nice and accommodating. The hotel has a beautiful large reception area with very comfortable seating. It has a tea/coffee sitting area; lounge; and dining room. Breakfast is a little expensive. We had a traditional irish breakfast in town at the Hardy Cafe. Many famous people have been in this hotel. Danny Kaye, Frank Sintra, Laurel & Hardy and Queen Victoria are a few. The hotel has added to the original building. We stayed in the old part of the hotel. This was our 38th wedding anniversary and they upgraded our room even though the hotel was almost completely booked. There was a beautiful wedding during our stay. The building was very impressive apart from the mock hedge which was the first thing that came in view from the side approach.. It's a shame that what used to be the main driveway is now just all overgrown looking like a dump. The hotel is in a lovely area, with shops and eating places all around and with easy access into Dublin and elswhere. We would have upgraded to a sea view if it had been possible. The first three nights we stayed there the view was over the rooftops to offices, the other three nights we stayed were overlooking the rooftops with the hills in the distance, which was better. Beds were lovely and comfortable. My sister & myself had a meal on two occasions (not breakfast, we gave that a miss) which was satisfactory (not full dinner) very quick in arriving and staff friendly which is more than I can say for the reception staff, I think they need a lesson in how to smile and interact with customers. If they would just even acknowledge that you are standing waiting would be something. The lift situation to the various floors is ok once you get used to it. Pity there was not a lift from our rooms straight down to leisure area. Hats and flip flops have to be worn, be careful, very slippery. All in all we would be happy to go back but it would be very nice if next time around to see welcoming faces.

My wife and I took a three day weekend trip to Dublin and stayed at the Royal Marine Hotel. We absolutely loved it and would return anytime. As we approached the hotel we were blown away by it's mansion-like appearance, and once we got inside we were very pleased by it's gorgeous layout. The Dun Laoghaire (pronounced Doon Leerie, FYI) area is aways away from City Center, but there is a DART station (above ground metro) just a couple blocks away. We had no maps of any kind and still had no problem locating the hotel, since there is a road sign right outside the DART station pointing towards it. The area itself is nice, with a great view of the water. If I had to register a complaint, it would be that the food at the hotel restaurants was expensive! No shocker there, it's Europe and a 4 star hotel, but we paid 38 euro for breakfast for two! That's pretty expensive for eggs, bacon, and OJ. But, if and when we return to Dublin, we will defiantly stay at the Royal Marine. We'll just eat elsewhere :P

The exterior of this hotel is beautiful, as are the public areas, but it does have some issues. First off, there is no doorman, and no automatic doors, so you have to struggle up stairs, open two doors yourself, all the while, wrestling with your luggage. I did book the least expensive room, and it was very small, although the bed was comfortable. The shower smaller than that of an interior cabin on a cruise ship, and no bathtub. The room also had what I consider to be some unnecessary annoyances. The ceiling lighting was set in such a manner that you couldn't see to adjust the thermostat control, operate the room safe, or see to put on make-up in the bathroom mirror. The soap tray in the shower was installed at an angle so that anything you placed on it fell to the floor. As for the maid service it was hit and miss, sometimes I would get a full compliment of towels, including wash cloths and a bath mat, and sometimes I wouldn't. Sometimes my trash would get emptied, sometimes it wouldn't. On one occasion, the maid left the rag they were using to clean with on my suitcase. Overall, I would recommend this hotel, provided you can get a good price for the room, because it is a good location, close to both bus stops (just make sure you get on the one going in the right direction), the train station, and the ferry station, and there is shopping located immediately adjacent to the hotel. It also affords a beautiful view of the coast. The public areas of this hotel definitely earn the 4 stars advertised on hotels.com, as for the rooms and service, I'm not sure I'd be that generous.
