"Peaceful setting on a country road"
Enjoyed our stay at the hotel. It was an easy drive to the Town Centre, with parking at one of the long term parking areas.Genuine Expedia guest review
If the mattress had'nt rolled one towards the middle alnight ,this would have been a comfortable stay. The staff saying that the mattress would probably be replaced at the turn of the year did'nt really answer my complaint, although the staff were polite .Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel staff pleasant and generally friendly. Prolems with the room entry cards. this definitely needs reviewing. we had problems getting into our room at all times. cleanliness of bar area on Sunday morning needing attention. Sticky tables and food stiull on the floor at 11am!!Genuine Expedia guest review
small and comfortable hotel, staff are friendly. quite conveniently located near the highway and other point of attractionsGenuine Expedia guest review
This is an excellent hotel, surrounded by lush gardens. The service was good, the rooms comfortable and well furnished. Highly recommended!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Overall we enjoyed our stay and it is a lovely hotel. The spa/pool facilities were lovely, as were the hotel staff and the hotel in general. However, if you make a last minute booking, as we did, don't expect the room to be anything like as good as the photo! It was adequate but of course 'double' bed means 'not king size' and to be honest the room […] was a bit small for a 3 night stay for 2 people, it didn't really have enough space for clothes, especially hanging space, so check before you book. The hotels.com listing was a bit misleading: a 'superior double/twin' actually means their basic room; 'Privilege room' is the Mercure term for the posher rooms, so be warned. We had no mini bar, clock radio or free bottled water as indicated on the listing when we booked, but I think that may be a hotels.com issue rather than the hotel itself. So, just be aware - it may not be quite as lovely as you expect but it is a very nice hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great for visiting Shropshire."
Enjoyed our overnight stay. Lovely hotel in very nice setting, would surely stay there again, no complaints.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Lovely hotel, very quiet location"
The hotel was lovely, my room wasn't ready on arrival at 3.30pm so I had to wait in the bar area for a short period of time. The room was very warm and didn't have a mini bar. I did mention this on checkout and the lady on reception said that they would have brought drinks up for me. I wouldn't like to ask for that though, so the mini bar would have […] been more convenient. I did get room service and the food was excellent quality, a bit pricey though. The pool and spa area was nice, however could do with a deep clean, Zumba aqua aerobics was on in the morning, very loud music! Overall though, brilliant attentive staff, fabulous breakfast lovely location. If you are getting a cab from the train station, ring a taxi, don't get a cab from the rank outside. I didn't and got charged £14! When leaving the hotel, reception rang a cab for me , £4.80. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff. We spent two beautiful days relaxing in lovely surroundings. Great food in the restaurant and a nice break for us. Very child friendly too.Genuine Expedia guest review
"It was ok"
Not a bad hotel. Facilities were nice, and the service by staff excellent. But on the hottest day of the year, in a 4 star hotel, you'd expect air conditioned rooms!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful Hotel and Location - But"
Our room (in the schoolmasters house) was pleasant but on the small side. It was extremely hot - understandable in the heatwave. There was no refrigerator/minibar or complimentary bottled water as promised on the the hotel information site. Eventually a fridge was brought to the room. It didn't work, so another was brought with some warm bottled water! […] The food was good if expensive. The same goes for the bar prices. The staff were always pleasant and as helpful as they could be. Our 'superior' room bore no resemblance to the photographs in the hotel information. A more representative set of photos would be helpful and avoid the initial disappointment we experienced. At check out time I was presented with a bill for almost £100 of spa treatment which we didn't have. This was removed when the receptionist checked. There was however no explanation of how the mistake had happened and certainly no offer of an apology. I was simply told that the overcharge had been removed, but NOT ONE WORD OF REGRET. This lovely hotel unfortunately did not come up to our expectations. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great weekend away"
We had a lovely break away The room was lovely and clean The staff in the restaurant and the bar very friendly Also from the reception Jane and Aaron was exceptionally helpful We can definitely recommend this hotel to everybodyGenuine Expedia guest review
It is a very lovely hotel, but as a female on my own I don't enjoy being placed in rooms within out buildings. My room was in The Stables, which was lovely but I would have felt safer and more comfortable within the main building. My room was also alongside the road and due to the noise I was unable to have my window open and it was a very hot stuffy […] night. I didn't get much sleep and found the next days work and driving difficult. The Receptionist, however was fantastic. A real asset to the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"sweet & sour"
what a find, a lovely large old type of grand hotel, a little remote but with large rooms good furnishing it ticks a lot of boxes. However, clumps of ladies hair on my bedding, the barman could not remember who had ordered food so it was returned to the kitchen, the wifi kept dropping out, my room was by the road so this was rather noisy. i asked for […] expresso for breakfast in the morning as a lot of hotels do now but this was not available, drirty cups, its life!!! "Lovely hotel in a wooded setting"
This is a very comfortable hotel that is however more geared to business than the private traveller, I would say. Having said that, the room we had was huge with a firm, large comfortable bed and very well appointed. The gardens are a big bonus, with plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the views. We had dinner in the impressive oak panelled dining room […] and our meal was very good although I did have to ask for the regular wine list, having at first been given another list which contained only the more expensive bottles. A pity also that the breakfast is rather over-priced in line with the usual practice of chain hotels. On the plus side though the free gym, which has excellent equipment, was a treat for us who are regular gym users. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Unfortunatly for us there was a wedding at the hotel. It was noisy and chaotic. Load music at night which we could hear and guests falling about, after too much alchahol. . cHildren running around, very noisy throughout our stay. . tHe peaceful weekend we were expecting did not happen. Very very disappointing. Would not recommend if there is a party […] or wedding on at the venue. FOod in restaurand was good and service in there was very good. "Beware of noise from functions"
The hotel was lovely. Rooms were comfortable and food was ok. The main issue we had was that the noise from the function room downstairs was so loud that you could hear every song and might as well have been At the party! This noise continued until 1am. Not good when we had my brothers wedding the following day. If there wasn't a function on the rest […] of our experience was fine. Staff were very polite and friendly. "Great hotel a couple of miles from Shrewsbury."
Great hotel, good food, nice pool and sauna etc. Would have rated a 5 but in a hotel of this standard WiFi access should be free of charge, wireless coverage needs to be improved.Genuine Expedia guest review
Nice big rooms, helpful courteous staff, food was fine although usual overpriced hotel breakfast. overall thumbs up from meGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Beautiful room and excellent service. The Spa was excellent as well.Genuine Expedia guest review
Service was excellent, they went out of their way to provide printing facilities for a grooms speech. Restaurant had a nice atmosphere and lovely decor. Overall could improve menu, most meals were fine, there was a small helping of cod for a main meal, chips a bit greasy may have been a busy night, and the bar a bit more expensive than usual.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Underwhelming hotel doesn't rate a 4 star"
The staff were friendly and efficient. The rooms were very cramped. The corridors and staircase were insitutional and in places scruffy, the carpet on the stairs was threadbare. The hotel was overheated. There was excessive noise during the night. Breakfasts were good but expensive for what was on offer - the same basic range you can get in most hotels […] nowadays. The bar was equally disappointing, offering standard Eurofizz and non-descript house wine. It shut at 11.00pm, which seems unusually early for modern hotels. We did not try the spa. For a 4 star country hotel, we were underwhelmed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"2* rooms available in a 4* Hotel"
For a 4* hotel and the price you pay and then you end up with: - a small attic room. - a very small window (attic window). - damp water stains on the ceiling and walls. - a damp musty smell coming from the bathroom extractor fan. - no Wi-Fi available in the attic rooms. - Sauna and steam room not available some of the days, due to planned maintenance […] work. On a positive note, when I complained, the hotel did try to move me, but there was no other rooms available. They did agree about the smell but this could not be fixed so they provided a plug-in air freshener. After 4 days they did manage to move me to a room that was lovely, with a window and Wi-Fi. They also provided the Wi-Fi free of change, it would have been £40 extra. The hotel would not refund any money for the unsatisfactory room. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great hotel for couples and older family"

"A great getaway!"
The albrighton Hall was fantastic, lovely welcoming staff, warm and clean. Didn't get to use the spa and polo but looked great. Breakfast was superb, a great start to the day. We will return again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Overpriced, stay somewhere else."
This hotel appears to be aimed at the wedding market. If you want to use the spa or run down gym before 8am dont stay here. We were advised on arrival to avoid having breakfast between 9am and 10:30 because that is when they are busy. Overpriced bar for location. "Not bad but not a great experience"
The staff could not be more friendly and willing to help, need to say that from the start. However, I felt let down by the Mercure overall. They knew in advance we were travelling with our 11 month old daughter but put us in a far away room in the annexe that was only accessible by a 100m walk in the freezing cold Novemeber wind and rain. Not a good […] start. Get to the security door that you need to swipe your card in to enter and.....it didn't work. Leave wife and daughter in the cold as I go back 100m to reception to get a working card. Back again I go to the door and we get in. Then find our room is basically in the basement when there is clearly plenty of spare rooms on the ground level. Accesibility with the daughter and baggage an issue clearly not thought of. Get to the room and opposite a room having a hen party. Now even more unimpressed. Get in the room and the travel cot we had asked for is not then. Get annoyed now. Back to recption, ask to be moved and ask for travel cot. All done by nice friendly staff. Room we were put into hasn't been cleaned properly and lots of heavy dust in areas that should have been clean! Next night we try the swimming pool. Didn't know it was open to non-guests. Get there and find we can only use a very small part of it because some kids are having paid for swimming lessons!!! Really??? Breakfast was seriously laclustre, too. Would not recommend this place. Looks lovely but go eslewhere. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Clean and well maintained hotel. Very noisy rooms (doors banging/foot steps and conversations), not enough staff, had to wait at reception for 5 mins to be greeted and then at the bar for 10 mins to be served. On both occasions there were no staff even visible. Nice setting in a peaceful location rather spoilt by the modern extended rooms / cheap construction […] techniques. Fantastic atmosphere and friendly welcoming staff. Everything was well organised and the room was clean and tidy, although no dressing gown was left out but we were able to borrow one in the end. "Tranquil location comfortable, spacious bedroom"
A little remote from the lovely Shrewsbury centre but the rural locale makes for a peaceful haven with no traffic noise. Did not dine at the hotel, however, menu and restaurant looked promising and not too expensive. The bedroom was quite spacious, well finished and in good order. Would definitely stay again if visiting the area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overnight for early flight"
We have stayed at the Etrop several times in the past and this is the first time I've been disappointed with the room service. Our room was set up for one person and although there were extra towels in the closet, there was only one glass and one water bottle. I had asked for another glass and water for my husband and an extra pillow for myself but […] nothing was ever brought to our room. I called twice and would have gladly gone to the front desk for the extras we needed but was told the items would be brought to the room shortly, there was a slight delay because the hotel was busy. "Great Stop Over"
This was a nice find. We had driven over three hours and were ready for a short rest. The Mecure was very warm and welcoming. We had a problem finding it initially because our GPS sent us to the wrong location. I called the hotel and they talked us into the entrance gates. They were very helpful. Our room was very spacious with glass ceiling to floor […] windows on one wall looking out over the pond with a fountain, the bath room was enormous with a full tub/shower combo, vanity sink and towel warmer. We had drinks and lite bites in the lounge while we waited for our dinner table to be ready. The menu offered a delicious selection and everything was wonderful. This is a definite return to place on our list of stay-overs. We would recommend it to friends. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Absolutely fab-- Albrighton"
On arrival, a very proffessional & cheerful staff member checked us in & offered to carry our bags!! Room 8, on the cosy size but with an outstanding view of the lake & fountains. Room facilities, all the usual but also bone china teapot + cups & saucers. Complimentary toiletries much larger than normal!! Leisure facilities, gym-excellent friendly staff, […] excellent equipment, the carpet soon to be replaced with excellent views to exercise by. Pool, lovely & warm, clean, cosy size & again the views outstanding. The Thermal suite, two saunas, two steam rooms & a cold iced room for the brave!! Two towels for the ladies, always a bonus. A squash court also available & my husband viewed a small boxing gym. I spoke to a few 'gym' members who all were very enthusiastic about their facilities & very welcoming to hotel guests. The Oak room dining room, excellent in every way. My husband became tangled in the crisp white linen table cloth, spilling our drinks, rescued very professionally by Sid the maitre d', a big thank you to Sid!!. Breakfast, £10 pp booked through reception, outstanding. Spa pampering, looked but didn't sample but will do so nxt time!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"nice grounds , shame about the dinner"
The hotel was lovely too look at and Staff were really friendly and helpful. We had requested an accessible room without stairs due to difficulty in walking. This had not been noticed. We were first given an annexe room quite a walk away which only had 2 small attic windows which we declined, then another room with 2 windows which was fine clean an […] spacious, but no air conditioning. The hotel was full and the staff on reception did their best.Dinner onAug 13th in the pannelled dining room looked as if it would be special, but it was sooooo disappointing. All food was beautifully presented, but smallish portions and mostly tasteless. My partners lamb needed additional vegetables and was bland to taste , not what you expect from Shropshire. I had fish and chips - the fish was nice but peas tasteless and chips awful .My cheese and biscuits were OK, but served with soggy grapes and celery I wouldn't have fed to a rabbit. We complained to a waitress who said the chef sent his apologies ! The spa is good, with a good sauna and steam room area and very friendly staff. The grounds were lovely , but lacked enough outdoor seating as the weather was good and would have liked to sit and read. There is a huge climbing/ rope frame , a sort of adventure playground for teenagers, which you have to book and pay for, but iut looked great fun.Altogether an enjoyable stay spoiled by small disappointments which shouldn't have happened.
