The only suggestion is to change the carpet in the hallways. It takes away from the hotel and looks worn. There is nothing that can be done about the small elevator. That was quite funny. I will definetly suggest this hotel. Location was great. A short walk from public stop from airport

The hotel is somewhat old and in need a complete renovation. The entrance is a small door on a side street off the Gran Via. The two elevators are shamefully tiny. They try to pass off the tiniest, wedge-shaped elevator as a novelty, but it's just a joke, barely able to fit three people, and then only if they're very close friends. The rooms are serviceable. […] The bathrooms appear to have been remodeled in the past 5 years, but signs of the remodel are everywhere (patched over holes in the wall, caps where old drain pipes used to be). The room is stuffy, even in winter, requiring you to open the French doors to the balcony, so I hope you like city noise. I recommend you air out the room while you're out and then close the balcony when you get back to your room. There's wifi in the room. Check at the front desk for your access code. I could only find one power outlet. You might want to bring a power strip if you intend to plug in more than one device, unless you plan to use the outlets in the bathroom (in which case, bring more than one plug adapter, if you're traveling from overseas). The TV is still a tiny CRT, which speaks to the age of the room. Although watching TV hardly seems like your primary concern if you're in Madrid. Which is good, because you get only about 10 channels, anyway. The walls are paper thin. Uncomfortably so. That's all I'm going to say about that. The mattress and pillows are not comfortable. You can take a can from the airport and pay 25 to 30 € or come by metro. We stayed at the Arosa for 4 nights during our recent trip to Madrid. Having read the many reviews about the small size of the rooms, we were pleasantly surprised by ours which was quite spacious and comfortable by European standard (although smaller than standard US rooms). We had a room on the 8th floor very nicely decorated in a Japanese theme. Only […] con was that we had a view into a central court and not on Gran Via but on the other hand, it was quiet and not noisy. If you purchase the breakfast at check-in for the duration of your stay you get it at 8 Euros per person instead of the standard 14 Euros. It's definitely worth it. The buffet includes choices of eggs (scrambled and hard boiled), croissants, muffins, bread, cereals, yogurt, fresh fruits, fresh juices, a choice of meats (bacon, sausage, serano ham, etc..), coffee (all kind (espresso, regular, cappucino, etc..), tea and a small Japanese section with miso soup and white rice. It's the same every morning but the assortment is good enough that you have a choice. Also, breakfast is offered up to 11:00 am so no need to rush. The lobby area is small but the staff is very nice and helpful. They also recommended restaurants based on our specific requests and made reservations for us. Location is perfect. Right on Via Grande and walking distance to most everything in the central town area. Less than 5 minutes away from metro station. We would definitely recommend this hotel to our family oand friends. I had a single room and the room was VERY small but the bed was comfortable. The bath was small as well, but functional, although the fixtures were dated. The lounge was better than expected; the computers were new and the furniture very nice. The breakfast and bar were overpriced. The location of this hotel is great. It is within walking distance of many things, as it is centrally located. The Lobby belies a Modern style, which is not consistent with the room(s). I had an interior room which was quite dark, despite having a window onto a light well. To say there was a view would be a lie: the closeness of the light well made […] it uncomfortable to keep the draperies open as you could see into other rooms and vice-versa. The least appealing aspect of the room I had was that there is a serious mould problem in the bathroom. Once you open the bathroom door you are overwhelmed by the smell. The toilet leaked too, so there was a slow, steady stream of water on the tiles, some of which sounded loose. An overhead light went unchanged over a five night stay (i did not alert the staff about this). Bring your own soap and shampoo (i did) because BW hotels apparently think it's alright to offer wall-mounted pumps of said products, like at a health club. The minibar, which also serves as a pedestal for the TV, requires that you get the keys from the management, I didn't bother. On the bright side, an interior room is quiet. Read more

The elevators are tiny, and NOBODY helps with luggage. So we were then moved to a 3rd room., "moved" is a figure os speech, because all this time we had to move our bags back and forth. WE did have many bags after finishing our 1 month trip around Spain. I have been to many 4 star Hotels. We had been travelling for a month and stayed at several 4 star places including “Parador “ chain Hotels. This was very far from a $ star Hotel. What is most funny is that I chose "Best Western" because I wanted a brand I could trust. The hotel was in a perfect area for touring. The staff was great. They went the extra mile and gave me a double room from a single when I asked for a street view. I asked for my room to be changed immediately when I told them the original room was too noisy and it was no problem. The only thing was the the 1st room the man gave me was on a smoking floor […] when my reservation was for non-smoking and he said they did not have any non-smoking rooms with a street view except in smoking but when I changed my room 15 minutes later, the woman receptionist gave me a great non-smoking room with a street view. I was also able to put my luggage in a storage room for the day while I was touring. All in all I only stayed one night and woud go back again. The hotel and staff were great! Read more

My family of 4 (wife, 2 teens, and myself) stayed at the Hotel Arosa on a recent family vacation in Madrid. Our experience was great, right from the start. As an example, we asked for support for an airport shuttle and Christine from the reservations department made sure that everything was arranged and confirmed. She even did all of the follow-up work […] for us when our flights were delayed -- and then checked up on us when we arrived at the hotel. It was excellent personal service. Our luggage was delayed for most of our stay at the Arosa and the front desk staff was excellent in helping us find places where we could buy clothing and other missing essentials. Even for those without lost luggage, the desk staff was extremely helpful in giving suggestions on restaurants, tourist attractions, and general directions. The location is extremely convenient to the down town, several restaurants and tourist sites. In short, it was all around excellent service. The only comment that I'd offer is that one of the 2 hotel elevators was down for the time of our stay and that made for some waits to get up to our rooms (we used the stairs a lot). This was a bit of a hike from the airport ....but that really gave us a nice little overview of the size of the city...& even wound us through the plaza area to get to the hotel. Plaza is just a few blocks from the hotel! Closer...there is even a GREAT little Pizza Place (read that as 'gourmet Italian dining') down the block (recommend the Caesar salad […] & prosciutto pizza! The Hotel has a very slow, very small elevator (& only 1 of the 2 were working....but at least it was working). The staff was able to exchange dollars for euros [oops...mistakenly thought the cab took CrCard...but it did not (33 Euro for a taxi in June/2012)]. The room was nicely designed....but could use some touch up paint to give it back its intended sparkle). But it was really a pretty good price for the location. Bedding was clean & comfortable. All the lights were controlled by your room key...which you have to insert into the keypad on your right as you enter/exit your room. This was unusual...but probably a good way to make sure lights are out in the room when you leave! A small fridge is in the room to provide beverages (at a charge) but there is enough room in there if you want to put a few of your own beverages in there. The shower was WONDERFUL (but be careful getting in & out of this tub/shower...as the tub had no mat or safety strips). Breakfast was included in our room price, & they had both hot & cold breakfast food options....with a decent selection for just about anyone. Read more

Pros: (1) Location is unbeatable; (2) clean rooms; (3) all the standard amenities. Cons: (1) Rooms a bit small, even by European standards; (2) room decor probably not updated since the late 70s; (3) Wi-Fi too weak for mobile devices, strong enough for laptop. I almost don't know where to begin. We were there on a family vacation in June of 2012. The Best Western Arosa was an extreme disappointment. Honestly, the only thing to recommend on the hotel at all is a decent, not great, location. The hotel still has construction going on so the lower levels, particularly the stairways, are extremely noisy and very […] messy and dirty. This is made worse by the fact that they only have 2 elevataors and they have to be the smallest I have ever seen. One is so small that literally only two people can get in at a time. Therefore to avoid lengthy waits for the elevators everyone takes the stairs which then runs you into the contruction situation. The people working the main desk were neither friendly nor helpful. The breakfast was severlely over priced. It was 14 Euros for scrambled eggs and bacon, a bit much if you ask me. I paid extra for the suite which was a waste of money. There is no discernible advantage to having a suite. i doubt the room is a bit bigger. They have us a free minibar which might have been nice but there was nothing in it so that was a waste as well. Finally, the hotel is located less than a block from an extremely seedy neighborhood. i don't know that I didn't feel safe but suffice to say there was a great deal of obvious questionable and seedy activity going on. It's right in the middle of granvia, which was great for me as a tourist. The room was quite, though. They were doind renovation in the hotel, so the stairs were messy and some parts smelled like paint. Expensive breakfast, so I had always at some place the hotel and it was the best idea!
