I was visiting Helsinki to run the city marathon held on the Saturday. I hotel location was just perfect for access to all amenities ( a minute walk from the airport transport bus and a minute walk to the tram and train network) Even though there was no sauna to loosen sore muscles after a run the bath was a good size for a soak and I would gladly stay here again. Finally it was very reasonably priced and I was very impressed with the cleanliness and newness of the interior.

This hotel was a lovely old hotel with great features decorated with taste. Fantastic location right opposite the station, so very easy to catch the bus to the airport saving money. And right in the heart of everything you want to see. The hotel was clean and staff were friendly. Only bad thing was that they seem to be doing a lot of works, particularly the pavement right outside the entrance. I think as a result, this meant the hotel was quiet which was good for us. We were put in a back room so didn't hear any noise and slept well on their comfortable beds and had lovely showers in the morning to wake us up. Breakfast was also good. The works look like they were close to finishing.

We stayed in the Seurahuone in July 2008 for one night. Good points The staff were helpful in providing plug converters. The breakfast selection was good. Bad points NO AIR CONDITIONING, stuffy, uncomfortable atmosphere in room The hotel has a night club (The Millionaires' Club) which can be heard on the fourth floor. Some of the rooms are located in a newer building and are very much smaller than the other rooms. Helsinki tram/road works during the summer make the hotel's location outside the train station inconvenient. The best the hotel can do is offer ear plugs. The repair works mean that it is difficult to load/unload bags when checking in/out of the hotel.

Was a bit dubious on arrival as the front entrance needs a bit of a spruce up. However, the reception staff were extremely helpful and the room spacious, clean and decorated to a high standard. Breakfast was included which made the room rate reasonable for a 4* hotel. The restaurant and bar hardly seemed open but with the location of the hotel it didn't matter as it was central to the Helsinki nightlife. Would definitely stay again.

This hotel is ideally situated for all city centre attractions. On arrival we were given an upgrade to an extremely comfortable room overlooking the Railway Station Square. The hotel was quiet [it was mid March] but high standards of service were provided in the bar and restaurant. It is worth noting the extraordinary architectual standards and decorative finish of the bar and particularly the dining room. Superb. On a negative note the bar was closed without warning on the Thursday [preceding Good Friday] and was planned to remain so until the following Monday. As we were leaving on the Friday morning this was not too much of a problem but advanced warning would have been appreciated. The breakfast was excellent. Finally the staff were friendly and attentive, fluent in English and a credit to the business

We couldn't quite understand how the hotel worked with so few staff. During six days very busy days there was only one person (Manager?) manning the Reception Desk and apart from two mornings one very helpful young man seemed to be trying to run the dining room single handedly. It which would have benefitted from cloths for the tables. The choice and quality of food offered for breakfast by the invisible kitchen staff was excellent. However the refreshment tray in the room was not kept stocked, we were constantly running out of tea bags, sugar and powdered milk, and my wife had to request a shower cap. Having said that we had a very enjoyable stay and the few staff we did see were very pleasant.

Our stay began with the "red carpet" entrance leading into a lovely lobby with a very helpful desk clerk. Old world charm exuded from the rich, dark wood, to the beautiful crystal chandeliers in the restaurant off the lobby. Our room was large, comfortable, with European bedding, and a modern bathroom. The only "confusing" thing was the shower without a curtain, but with a small clear shield that, no matter how hard we tried not to, we got water on the floor!! But, the overall experience out weighed the shower. The breakfast offered a good variety of American and Finnish foods to choose from, all delicious. The location across the street from the train station, and a short walk to the bus station was perfect. And, we were in walking distance to the harbor where there is a large market place, the downtown area with major stores, lovely boutiques, Tax Free Finnish goods, restaurants of all cultures, museums and other national sites. We have been to Helsinki several times, and wish we had found this hotel sooner. We definitely will be back.

Try to get a room which does not overlook the brick wall and the slogan "Kilroy was/is here". The Seurahuone has a fabulously convenient location, just across the street to main railroad station, bus station and Finnish Air Bus Shuttle to International Airport. Lovely rooms, parquet wood floors, black and gold color scheme for furniture with artwork by Gustav Klimt (one of my favorites). Only two issues encountered during stay: 1. There was no air conditioning in room. This problem could be solved by opening both sets of large windows which cooled the room off fairly quickly. This had the downside, however, of admitting street noise which some might view as a problem. 2. The hotel has one elevator and it failed for several hours during my stay. Because there was no alternate elevator, access was limited to climbing stairs. Despite two issues noted would nonetheless strongly recommend this hotel.

My only criticism is that we had no warning that the entire country shuts down at 1 pm on June 20 for St. John's Day/solstice and we missed many museums. The hotel should provide a list of restaurants/cafes that are open since most are closed. Other than that it was a great experience and I would happily return to Seurahone in the future.
