"LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
This little hotel has location, location, location! It is less than 5-10 minutes walking distance to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, & Tempolo Adriano. It is about 15-20 minutes from the Coliseum, the Forum, and Vittoria Emmanuelle, around 25-30 minutes from Piazza del Popolo, and a half hour from the Vatican. Seconds away from the main artery Via Del Corso, you can’t get a better location for a more reasonable price. The front desk staff is wonderful and Tomosso in particular will not hesitate to recommend the best restaurants and tell you how to get to all the sites within Rome. He recommended fabulous restaurants and mapped out a walkable itinerary of sites daily for us. If you don’t care to walk, the hop on hop off bus is two minutes away. What really sets this hotel apart is the 5th floor outside deck with a panoramic view which is used for breakfast in the morning and a possible night cap at night. What a way to start and end a day. It was beyond gorgeous and really a delightful highlight to a memorable stay in Rome. The rooms are big enough to accommodate two easily and are clean and neat. The only difficulty I encountered was that I was unable to connect to Wi-Fi but instead used the downstairs computer. Some of the rooms on the upper floors are only accessible by a short stairway which is difficult with heavy luggage. Other than that, our stay was perfect and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Excellent, convenience to airport was essential.

We did not get information that payment by card was not accepted. The breakfast was poor, bread from yesterday, cerials too sweet. The juice was more like lemonade than fruit-juice.
"Would stay there again"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Had a great experience. Our triple room was clean and bed very comfortable, including pillows. 40 inch hd tv with all the sky channels with the options to switch to English language. Filled a form with time and choices for breakfast . Arrived on time and plenty of food. ( Italian style breakfast) . Front desk nice and helpful. Near American embassy, hard rock cafe' , villa borghese park( very nice!) . Would stay there again and reccomand it to friends and family

Room was so small that we could barely walk around the bed and there were no drawers in which to put clothes. The buffet breakfast, however, was outstanding and the location very convenient. Front desk staff could be friendlier. The room was much smaller than the photo for that level of accommodation

The world’s smallest country, Vatican City is dominated by St Peter’s, Christendom’s largest church. Michelangelo’s humbling ‘Pietà’ and his Sistine Chapel ceiling frescos are among the world’s greatest works of art. The Aurelio area is named after the ancient Via Aurelia, the main road that connected Rome with Spain, and is convenient for visiting the city’s sights.

So close to St Peters and the staff is excellent. This is the second time we have stayed here annd would return again. Good value,

Wi-fi is free for 30 minutes only in the lobby that really sucked!!
"Excellent location"
Standard tourist hotel with an excellent location next to St Peters
"Beaware .. Far from 4 star quality!"
Before you book this hotel beware of the following negative items we experience on our stay: - Location is great if visiting the Vatican City & its Museums -BUT the quality of the Hotel is far from a 4 stars experience (similar to like comfort inn in US) -our room was clean but smelled horribly like wet socks or sewage -restroom door was broken -walls […] were dirty and need of a new paint job -The staff was not so friendly -The hotel offers complimentary 30 mins wifi service only when in the lobby -Internet service can be purchase through your room daily but operated by 3rd party- very slow and option go disconnected. Overall would not stay here again! Read more

"Great Location! So close to the Vatican!"
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The wi-fi is only free in the lobby. The staff was very nice and helpful. The convenience to the Vatican was perfect.
"Great Rome Trip"
This hotel was an excellent choice. Approx 5 min / 2 block walk to Vatican. Also 1 1/2 block from San Pietro train station. Staff was honest and dependable. Many hotel and taxis try to cheat you while in Rome. We had no trouble here. Free internet in lobby. You must bring Italian adaptor to plug in your electrical appliances...warning ....Italy uses […] 220 for everything. so its okay to plug in your laptop, cause it g\has a Voltage Reducer Box in the cord (Black box on every laptop caor)...but don't plug in your Camera charger , might blow it up !! This is a good hotel, Price to Cruise Ship Terminal fm hotel was $130 Euros, total for two in Limo. Hotel Staff arrange it for you, without bribes. Almost all taxis are cheats, so be careful. Again, hotel will get you a honest cab. Convienence to Vatican cannot be overstated, and saved us a bundle. We will return to Starwood Michaelangelo again. And lastly, Breakfst is quite excellent, all you can eat, and good variety Read more
We spent just one night here. I do not understadn how they maintain their 4 star rating. It is more like a 2 or 3 star. The room was very very small ,which by itself would have been ok. But the room was not clean the walls were marked and dirty. The furniture was very scratched and in need of replacement. The bathroom was clean however. Great location […] but they need to attend to maintenance . Read more
"Great location for St. Peters"
Front desk staff is very helpful and all speak good English. The shower is different but works well. Room was very clean. TV channels are my only real complaint. Only 2 English channels, Russian News and BBC World News. I would stay there again. There is no pool or hot tub. I couldn't find that info out online before I went.
"What's not to like?"
The only negative I could think of was that, unless you're fluent in Italian, the staff will speak in English, so it's no fun if you're trying to practice. Other than that, it's two blocks from St Peters, the rooms are excellent, most with little balconies, great bed and bathroom, VERY English/American breakfast in the morning (can't find an espresso […] anywhere!), super staff. Quiet neighborhood. Read more

"Close Proximity to Vatican City"
If your main interest in visiting Rome is to see the Vatican City, then this would be a perfect hotel for you. Its closeness to Vatican has enabled us to visit the place early in the morning thus skipping long lines. Other than this, the hotel room itself is nothing to mention - very small room, small bathroom and shower space. But the lobby area and […] the breakfast are good. Read more
"everything the reviews said it would be"
No problems with the hotel. Wifi is only free for 30 min per 24 hrs in the lobby, but you can pay extra to have it in your room. Free breakfast daily was well served. Great location for the vatican but the train system in rome is not great so better to take the buses (still convenient location for that). Would stay there again.
"My thoughts"
Great location The room was cramped the room rug appeared a bit gamey/dated The morning breakfast was great
"Very close to Vatican!"
This hotel was convenient to the Vatican and bus stops. A short walk to subway stops & other tourist sites in Rome.
"Not a four star hotel"
Run-down room with cracks throughout the bedroom walls and openings in the air grates. Very, very rude desk staff. Gave the feeling that they were doing you a huge favor by answering a question. My wife called the front desk to ask if there was a nearby place to get a massage, and the person at the desk laughed, said no, and hung up. We then found […] a massage parlor a quarter mile from the hotel. Do not buy the in-room wifi. We bought it for just over 5 euro, and then had our reception vary between poor and no connection. Use the free lobby wireless or go a few blocks away to the super cheap computer station shop. Overall just not what I thought it would be. The only highlight is that it is very close to the Vatican, which is also not great since it's the most touristy area in Rome, so all restaurant prices are higher than the rest of Rome. There are other 4 stars to stay at for a similar price, go for one of those. Read more
Several of the front desk employees were very rude and short.
"Hotel Michelangelo in Rome closed to the Vatican"
Great location if your goal is to visit the Vatican. Hotel is old and Relatively expensive.

"StarHotel Michelangelo, Rome, Italy"
This was a great place to stay overall. Everyone spoke English fluently, and were always friendly, ready and helpful. Great breakfast buffet! However, we have but one complaint -- for English speaking patrons, there were only two English language channels available on the in-room television -- the BBC and Russian Television. Both were news channels […] only, with a thirty-minute cycle of reporting (they repeated everything every thirty minutes). All other language channels had a variety of programming. Read more
I do not think that this hotel desreves a 4 star. i think its 3 star hotel by way of accomodations, condition of the room and overall looks of the hotel. Small TV and not working. Location to the Vatican was good, so served my purpose.

Great location, friendly staff.
"Michelangelo Rome, Italy"
The staff was not friendly and did not help when asking for directions. We had a leak in the ceiling and they put a bucket to catch the water. Would not recommend, or ever stay there again!!!!
"Nice hotel and management is caring to the guests"
Hotel is nice, old traditional design. The room and bed were small and breakfast can be much better. Hotel management were caring and let us checkout on 21:00 because we were sick. Great location to the Vatican (2 minuted walk) in general for short vacation - it's enough.

"Very nice hotel"
Great hotel! The room was a US standard size, which was very big for Europe. Nice, clean room, with Wifi available (5 Euro a day, which is really cheap.) Great breakfast buffet included. 5 minutes walking distance to the Vantican.
"Michelangelo Hotel, ROME! Next to the Vatican"
Fabulous hotel and amazing complimentary breakfast! PERFECT for visiting the vatican! A bit further away from the Spanish Steps and the Trevi fountain, but you can buy a double decker, get on, get off pass to take you all around the city and you are set to go. I would DEFINITELY recomment this hotel! The front desk staff were very helpful:)

"Great Location!"
My wife and I took a second honeymoon to Italy and, on the basis of others' recommendations on this site, decided to stay at Michelangelo. The shower was an adventure (shower curtain too short) but other than that we had a great experience. The staff is great, very helpful. Only having internet service in the lobby made for a crowded experience at […] times. Read more
"Close to Vatican, but nothing around the area."
When I booked I tought being near the Vatican I was going to have walk and access to stores, restaurants, banks.I ended up having to take taxis and got my own transfer to thge airport because it was cheaper than what the hotel offered. To my surprise there is NOTHING near the hotel. The front desk staff was borderline rude and not helpfull at all. I […] asked the bar for some ice for my swallen feet, and they gave 10 cubes because they have a small machine and they needed it for drinks. They don't have ice machines, or water machines. The hotel was clean, the room confortable, but I wouldn't stay there again. Read more
"Star Hotel Michelangelo- Rome - AWFUL"
DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!!!! THEY STEAL AND LIE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I left a small box with my precious jewelry in the room and called back one hour later, I was told the maid had not even cleaned the room yet but for some reason the box was simply not there, I went in to talk to the manager several times and was told I had to make an appointment to see […] him, was screamed at by the staff in the lobby about it being my fault for leaving it and that they do not steal and it is not their responsibility if someone has forgotten something by accident. I was also told that I should simply file a police report but would not get compensation. I called repeatedly after I left and the manager refused to take my calls/call me back. The way the staff talked to me was disgusting and I WOULD NOT RECOMEND STAYING HERE EVER !!!! Read more

"Comfortable stay near the Vatican"
My wife, 2 yr old son, and I recently stayed here because it was near the Vatican and basilica. The staff was so helpful with all of our luggage and other needs and the breakfast selection was fabulous. Unfortunately the Vatican Museum was closed the day we needed to visit but we will definitely stay here again when we are ready to go back.
"Starhotels Michelangelo, Rome"
Good location, many American tourists, practical as a base
"StarHotel Michangelo Rome"
Hotel was clean and breakfast was great. Staff attentive and very friendly by Rome standards. Short walk to St Peters and at circle can get many of the hop-on hop -off tours. Get a package to get you into Sistine Chapel at 7:30 because too crowded later in day. stay here again for sure.
The first night was not what I expected. The room was a standard and was in very poor condition. I requested to move to a different room and it was much better. I couldnt believe the two rooms were in the same hotel. If you stay here, make sure to go with a suite, one of the more expensive rooms, otherwise you will be very disappointed. The location […] is great, right next to Vatican city and there are delicious restaurants right around the block open until about 10:00 pm. The staff varies, some are very friendly and others were not. The bar tenders were excellent, the restaurant is great, the laundry service and room service personnel were excellent, but some of the front desk service personnel were rude. Read more
"Starhotels Michelangelo in Rome"
We loved our hotel. The staff were great. We loved the breakfast buffet. The selection of fruits, breads, and meats were amazing. The front desk had bus passes so we could buy them ahead of time and they had shuttle service to/from the airport that was cheaper than taxis. Our beds were VERY comfortable and our balcony had a view of St Peters and the […] surrounding neighborhood. Our only issues were: 1) The shower was a hand-held with just a curtain, no tub, but we were OK with that. 2) The free internet was for only 1/2 hour from the lobby. We just wrote our emails ahead and then hooked up to send them so we didn't waste our time. The Vatican City was practically across the street. The bus and subway terminals were right around the corner from the hotel so it was easy to get anywhere in Rome. Go eat at "La Vittoria" which is a short walk (about 2 blocks) from the hotel. The food is A-1. One of the hotel staff works there as well! Read more
"Really Close to the Vatican"
As European hotels go, your stay will be pleasant. Great breakfast, location, they speak English well, wifi in common areas, etc., but most of all, very close to the Vatican and a great place to base your tour of Rome. We also recommend the "hop on, hop off" double decker red bus as the best way to tour Rome. You can catch it at the Vatican. This hotel […] is a good choice. Read more
"The Michelangelo-right near St. Peters"
The hotel itself is lovely. What makes it even better is the staff. Front Desk people are helpful, friendly and quite knowledgeable. The restaurant staff are friendly, the food is excellent.
good location good breakfast good service
"Hotel Star Michaelangelo in Rome"
Everything about this hotel was first class. We were in a corner room with windows that opened to two streets. The hotel is walking distance to the Vatican. The breakfast was lso good and service was excellent. The only thing we missed were wash cloths that are not always in European hotels. There were 7 in our group and it would have been helpful if […] we had all been on the same floor but we made our reservations individually and it did geive us the opportunity see 4 different floors and 4 different rooms. The hotel wa very accommodating in calling taxis for evening meals in town and our transfer to the hotel. Read more

"Great Location"
Great location for our visit to the Vatican. The staff was very helpful.
"Starhotel Michelangelo Rome"
The only good thing about this hotel was location. However, it was a 4* hotel. Very poorly maintained. Staff wasn’t polite sometime, which surprised us very much. The breakfast was very poor. Just to understand, the plates were not clean. Too much money to pay just for a location. Moreover, I held even worst because we had a couple of friends with us […] and their daughter for holidays. Their room and the top neighbours was a real disaster. Staff did not take any action as to contact the neighbours and to ask them to “keep silence” at night. I would not recommend this hotel to others. Read more
"Right next to the Vatican!!"
VERY comfortable property with an EASY 10 minute walk to St. Peter's. Nice neighborhood so no worries there. Staff was friendly and helpful, especially in getting a taxi for us for the ride to the airport. In morning traffic, 30 minute drive. Minutes from a number of outdoor eating choices. All said, good value for money and the location is PERFECT. […] Enjoy....... Read more
"Hotel is very close to St Peter's Basilica"
StarHotels MichelAngelo is one of the best I can recommend if you want to be close to St Peter's square. Also just 5-10 minutes walk to the stores, restaurants, shopping for souveneirs, attractions, etc. Hotels free breakfast are very good. The hotel offers free shuttle departure to airport. But all hotels in Europe are expensive and not comfortable […] as like in northern America. Read more
no customer service. I was laughed at when I asked if the hotel was open between the early am hours. "yes, Why wouldn't it" I was told. The night manager quoted one price for a taxi to the airport and in the a.m. I was given a lower quote by a.m. manager. Don't trust their advice. and didn't feel they welcomed questions. Location was good.
"Great hotel, diffecult to reach"
The hotel was great, it was perfect for visiting the Vaticain and St. Peter's square, only a short 2 block walk. The only drawback was its on a one way street and if your not familiar with area it is hard to get to. But it is well worth this driving exercise to stay here.
