Starhotels Michelangelo Vatican - Aurelio

A short guide to Vatican - Aurelio

The world’s smallest country, Vatican City is dominated by St Peter’s, Christendom’s largest church. Michelangelo’s humbling ‘Pietà’ and his Sistine Chapel ceiling frescos are among the world’s greatest works of art. The Aurelio area is named after the ancient Via Aurelia, the main road that connected Rome with Spain, and is convenient for visiting the city’s sights.

Overall a very good hotel and suited our needs to explore Rome, especially the Vatican area which is with minutes of the hotel. Dinner menu very expensive and not alot of decent places in area to eat out, so found had to use taxis alot to go further a field, which were not expensve and the hotel was happy to order it for you. Miad service in room and the little extras in the room were excellant.

Great hotel and a nice neighborhood. Stores, restaurants, and pubs within a block or two. Very popular with tour groups so you will see lots of guests come and go. Breakfast is wonderful. Eggs, bacon, juice, cereals, fresh fruit, fruit trays, ham, cheese, breads, coffee, tea, etc. This was our main meal of the day. Bus 64 stops about two blocks away and offers easy transportation into the city center and the train station. The hotel offers wireless but it is provided by a third party for 10Euros an hour or 17Euros a day. Not worth it. Some restaurants and pubs within two blocks offer free WiFi and I did my email while eating and drinking coffee. The hotel lists wireless for a fee... The staff is very helpful and arranged a reservation for the Borghese Museum without charging for the service. Overall I would easily recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Rome.

They had a huge buffet-style breakfast and it was pretty picked through when we got there halfway through the time frame it was offered. Dirty plates and pretty bad service there. Very close to the Vatican if that's what you're interested in seeing, but not a very exciting neighborhood in the immediate area around the hotel. This is a nice hotel in a quiet area. The walls of the room were a little scuffed up and the shower is mounted in the wrong place in the tub. The breakfast is adequate but not outstanding. The hotel is located very close to the Vatican. If you walk through the square and up a couple of blocks there is a subway station that allows you access to the sites in Rome. There is a small pizzeria just up the road from the hotel that is outstanding. Overall I was very pleased with the hotel and the room. I had to make a short call back to the states and it only cost 90 cents.

Front desk was the WORST attitudes i have ever experienced. the internet was AWEFUL. the TV was TERRIBLE. the electricity kicked the breakers everytime we plugged something in. i will NEVER stay in a Star Hotel again. PERIOD! the only thing that was good was the maid service. Definately NOT a 4 star hotel. 2 at best.

I'd stay at the Michelangelo again. Quick walk to the Vatican, restaurants and public transportation. Room was large enough for two adults, big bathroom that was spotless. Breakfast was included and more than could have been expected. Bedroom needed updating-ceiling and walls had spots, but beds were comfortable.

This hotel was perfect for our needs. We stayed in 4 different cities in Italy and this hotel had, by far, the most spacious rooms. We rented the room with 2 queen beds. They were very comfortable, there was a large bathroom and plenty of space in the room itself. The hotel was very quiet at night as was the surrounding neighborhood. It's within walking distance to St. Peters Basilica (2 minute walk), Vatican City (10 minute walk) and other sites. There is an AMAZING gelato place around the corner called Capitan Cono...you MUST go! The staff was friendly, one employee was a little less on the cheerful side, but nothing that ruined our stay. The continental breakfast did not have that great of a selection, but that was expected. The No. 64 bus is right around the corner which takes you to the Colosseum, The Forum, Rome Train station, etc. Very easy to get to and super convenient to be by this train. I would definitely stay at this hotel again if I get the chance to experience Rome again!

The hotel was about a 5 minute walk from St. Peter's Square. If your trip is going to center around visiting the Vatican, this is the perfect location. We were able to hop out of the hotel and walk right over to St. Peter's square avoiding crowded buses, cabs (which can get pricey), etc. There are a few restaurants walking distance, decently priced. You can get onto several of the tour hop on/hop off buses from St. Peter's square so it's very easy to tour the main sites within the rest of Rome. Taxi ride to/from the train station is about 10-15 euros. You can arrange a car with the hotel to/from the airport for 47 euros, which is the same price as a cab ride to/from the airport. The room was a very nice size with great down comforters and your choice of 3 different types of pillows for comfort. Very clean, roomy, and a balcony view of the St. Peter's Dome. We would absolutely stay here again. A great price as well!!

Starhotels Michaelangelo is literally within steps of the Vatican, and that was the reason we selected it. The hotel staff are very knowlegable and professional but also showed kindess to us as American tourists who don't speak Italian. The rooms were spotless and modern and were of reasonable size, particularly for the City Center of Rome. Bathrooms were far above average, especially for Europe. Excellent Value and Excellent Service. This place would be my first pick for my next visit to The Eternal City.

Overall, a very nice hotel right next to Vatican/St. Peter's Square. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Hotel was clean. Room was very comfortable, bed/pillows also comfortable. The breakfast buffet served was adeqaute but not excellent. Also, it was quite a walk to other sites in Rome, however, there is a bus that is conviently located that takes you there. Food from the restuarant/room service, food was generally very good, slightly pricey. Also, I'd advise not to use the mini bar, as they charge generously for beverages such as water, soda and a bill can rapidly grow.

While this hotel is a hop, skip to the Vatican, the first room we were given (1) allowed for no movement; (2) was old and dirty. We were given a second remodeled room, but it was on the street and therefore noisy. We are convinced that the air conditioning is turned off during the night since the room became very warm. The hotel also gets our vote for worst beds. We turned the mattresses and found the pillow top was on the bottom. Turning did not help.

Located very close to St. Peter's square, 1 1/2 blocks from bus stop. Great location in a residential area. Quite a few cafe's and gelato/snack bars a block away. Small grocery store less than a half a block away. Great breakfast was included. Hotel staff was very professional. We had a great stay. Loved the view from our balcony.

Located literally outside of Vatican city, about a brisk 20-30 minute walk to Piazza Navona, Trevi, Forum, etc. We walked everywhere. Felt safe around the neighborhood, even late at night. Nearby hotel, we didn't find great places to eat. Better places to eat require some planning, since they're about 20-30 mins walk. We were on 1st floor facing alley way which can be noisy if you're a light sleeper. A couple of times, the bathroom had a funny smell (like stagnant water) which we resolved by putting a towel over the floor drain. The service was very friendly, professional and attentive. We were helped with a last-minute tour and transportation back to the airport. Many at the front desk spoke English, which is especially helpful since we don't know Italian.
