South Beach Plaza Hotel

We hired a concierge, Brian, to arrange a ride for a group of us. He's a small Moroccan guy with a mustache. We were very clear that we had to be at our destination at a very specific time. He got in the van with us, along with some other person. That was kind of weird, but I thought maybe the driver wanted him to come along or something. The driver […] took the city streets, so we were stuck in traffic for ages. Being out of town, none of us knew what the best route to take was. Finally, we found out why they took the city streets. The concierge and his random friend came along with us for a free ride home. Totally unacceptable! On top of that, the driver had no idea where he was going, and constantly took wrong turns. We ended up being late and it cost us. In addition, Brian also made some very weird comments about each of our races. It was kind of funny at first, but eventually it became borderline racists. Not cool. So if you stay at this hotel, stay away from the concierge. He's very shady. I'll never stay at this hotel again. The hotel itself was not that great. What a great location...corner of 14th & Washington. But the area is loud on the weekends. The hotel is charming with it's 1930's vibe and decor...too bad that it attracts the much younger, boisterous crowd that seems to take over in the evening congregating in the reception and patio area yelling profanities. I was worried after reading some of the reviews what I was going to get for the price. However the staff was pleasant and helpful and the rooms, while sparse, were very clean. The beds not only have the standard removal mattress cover and fitted sheets but they also had a hypoallergenic, hygenic slip cover around the mattress as well which I was please […] to find. The mirrors over the sinks are in an awkward spot and a shorter person may not be able to see into them. Our group had 3 rooms and all of them were clean with no mold or air conditioning issues. The only problem I had with the hotel was it's teeny, old elevator-it worked but made me hesitant so I took the stairs most of the trip. The decor is a bit dated but honestly, all of the hotels on that section of collins in south beach are so it's par for the course. I would stay here again. It was very convenient to a lot of things! My husband and I stayed during Memorial day weekend and had a good time. We were surprised to see Expedia booked us a suite with a full kitchen. For the price, size of room, cleanliness and proximity to the beach it can't be beat. Our only negative comment is the bed was too soft.

The hotel is in a great location. Hotel staff was friendly. They brought my car out fairly quickly when requested. They have a hookah bar in the hotel which is great. Rooms were small but reasonable and clean. Bathroom was very clean. Hotel needs some updating but has everything you need for a night's stay. I would stay in this hotel again.

The hotel was close to the beach and plenty of restaurants and bars. However, the beds were hard as a rock and the pillow were just as bad. Every morning the trash truck comes down the alleyway. You can hear it make at least 10 stops and empty EVERY dumpster before 7am.

No complaints here, room was dated but clean and comfortable. Was given a king bed suite, included kitchenette, twin size sofabed and flat panel TV. Perfect location and the garden plaza is a nice addition to sit and relax although there's much more to do in the area. Don't expect a 5 star hotel and you won't be disappointed.

I had a great stay and was treated nicely by the hotel staff. It is the equivalent of 2 blocks from the beach and I was also able to take the bus to Miami (proper) very easily. The staff answered all of my questions (I had a lot of questions!) I was pleased with the rooms and the surrounding area of the hotel. I felt that the staff was very lax. I reported that the elevator was not working to the desk clerk and it did not even phase him. His response was "Its not working". I tried to tell him I was waiting like 10 mins upstairs as I have had major surgery on my back and cannot accent or decend […] stairs. A few steps is okay, but 3 flight, I was in misery when I had to walk down and back up again. In any event, I had to get ice and there was no sign on the door of the elevator. A man was waiting for the elevator and the door opened. My thought was, Oh, its working; so I went in with my granddaughter. The door closed and moved up in but stopped. We were stuck for at least 20 mins. This should never happen. Even though I was displeased with this happening, I would go back. Guests of the hotel seemed to be mostly mid to late 20s, and being spring break, it was fairly noisy late into the night. However, the hotel is very convenient to South Beach, reasonably price, and was recently updated with a fresh, new age design. The room was impeccably clean. I would definitely stay there again.

I'd recommend this hotel to people who value location and convinience at a limited budget. Pro: great location (2 min to the beach!), friendly staff, nice continental breakfast. Con: have to pay for parking, the early morning dumpster noice (it's really loud!), small and old building (but overall clean, you get what you pay for).
