I had known from the previous reviews not to expect much, but I was doing research at Coventry Cathedral and the hotel was right next door so I gave it a try. Worst decision of my life. The hotel was probably the worst I have ever stayed at - worse that any youth hostel I stayed at backpacking across Europe. It is really run down, paint is peeling off […] the walls, my room smelled musty, there was a big red stain on the carpet (coolaid? nail polish?), the carpet had been vacuumed but there was no helping how dirty and worn it was. In one of their upstairs "lounges" all of the chairs and couches are torn apart and worn - it looked like it was out of a teen rebellion movie. You cannot get internet in your room, but there is no business office or anything to do work at (no printer to print boarding passes either). Don't even get me started on the food - there is not much around that was open on my stay (Easter weekend) so I had to eat at the hotel bar. Seriously disgusting, I forced about half a grilled sandwich down since I hadn't eaten all day and then gave up because I thought I would throw up. The next night I ordered french fries because I figured it is hard to screw that up - but I was wrong! So gross. I gave up and bought a chocolate bar from the almost empty vending machine to get rid of the taste.... Read more

I have stayed at the Brittania for the past three years when I visit Coventry. It is the most convenient hotel for everything. Public buses are right across the street and coaches that take you all over the uk to sightseeing areas. It is close to shopping, restuarants, pubs and museums and Coventry Cathedral all within walking distance.

We have stayed at the hotel last year and the location was very convenient. This stay was very traumatic. The phones were not working and guests were not informed. The staff were dismissive and sometimes rude. My room keys were given to someone else who looked like me. The management was informed but no feedback recieved.

The hotel was OK, the room was clean and comfortable, what bothered me was the attitude of the staff, it was like they couldn't care less that I was staying there and they were doing me a favor by doing their work. I've been in better hotels and I'll try to stay away from this one.

The bed was comfortable enough but the room was dusty and the wallpaper was falling off the walls. There is a lot of road works in the areas too which are very noisy.

this is a dated and very tired hotel. no car park at the hotel and yoiu have to park in the local town car park and pay. Food and staff are very poor. wont be coming back here again. it was full of construction workers and builders who over night.

Booked for 2 nights and considered leaving after the first. The hotel is v run-down but the real problem is that, barring reception staff, there’s an air of unfriendliness bordering on hostility. First night I ordered room service and it was made clear that my order was an inconvenience. Eventually I was brought food, signed for it but then was told […] that I had to pay right away (I didn't have cash) so I had to leave lukewarm dinner (uncovered, not as described, wrong bottle of drink and no glass), while I went to settle up and get a glass myself – kind of defeated the idea of room service. The second night I decided it might be easier to use the 'restaurant'. I was the only diner and the place was freezing – I guess they’re saving on heating. I was given limited set menu and the starter came and was fine and halfway through I wandered to see if I could find the staff member (out back microwaving the main?) to get drinks list. I was told bluntly 'We don't do drinks. If you want a drink you have to go and get it from the bar' (a separate place down the corridor). Not even the offer of a glass of water. I'd say not serving drinks is a bit of a novel departure for a restaurant so this info would have been useful before I'd ordered. The main was inedible - turkey and cranberry sauce (Christmas leftovers maybe?). The waitress never came back so in the end I took a slice of the half-frozen dessert from the buffet and sloped back to my shabby room via the broken lift. Grim. Read more

The receptionists were disinterested, the room was shabby but clean.The remote control didnt work and the night porter brought a second one that didnt either, so I gave up. Badly run hotel that needs a major investement in terms of managemnet and refurb.

Superb location, but no car park, interior dated, noise isolation between rooms - 0, a bit dusty in the rooms, not all lights and switches working, wifi is not in all rooms. I stay in hotels and b&bs every week and did have better stays. But because of location I will stay there again.

Customer service at reception was poor, felt as they were not prepared to help, listen or assist. Maintenance was poor due to frequent malfunction of lifts, at one time all 3 not working, very hard to get to 6th floor with dislocated ankle, however was assisted by security through the back laundry lift. Not had such a bad experience of a hotel since we stayed in a 2* in Blanes, Spain forty years ago. My request was for a non-smoking room was ignored - my rom stank of cigarettes. When I commented on this the response was that the hotel was 'busy'. The scene in the breakfast room was like a cattle market. The retaurant was clearly busy with only a […] few staff on duty who seemed to be more pre-occupied dealing with coach parties that an individual guest. I was shown to a table and then left. There being no further contact with staff to give instructions. Being left to see to myself I found - no fruit juice left in the containers, cereal dispensers empty and with most on the floor. When I eventually found the flasks for tea/coffee I was met with a sight of a small 'mountain' of used tea bags on a plate waiting to be cleaned away and table wet with overspills. The hot breakfast was that by description only - it was greasy and overcooked. When I booked out I mentioned my disappointment but again was given the excuse, "We are very busy". I can say with confidence that my one nights experience was a never to be repeated one and I will not hesitate to share this with the team that I am part of and also manage. Read more

The hotel was in the middle of town, with no parking, but this was close by and between 8am on 6pm only 50p. The hotel on the other hand is in very urgent need of upgrading. we were put in room 403 and 410. the bathtub in room 403 has multiple leaks that after a couple of showers the floor was all flooded. The toilet seat in room 410 was broken when we came in. We had to request for it to be fixed. The wall soundproof is below par. We could hear all conversations from room 409! stay clear of this hotel at all cost!

I am so upset over my stay last Tuesday night, the main cause of this was the food servedtome in the restaurant at night. It was totally unedible and tasted full of sugar. We booked in at 8.30pm, having booked for 3 nights. First impressions were how noisy the bar was, could hear it from the entrance. Lots of drunks, people eating takeaways in foyer, staff trying to get drunk people in lifts out of the way. Only 1 lift was working. Got into the room, wallpaper hanging off the walls, looked as though it was decorated in […] 1985 and then never touched. Furniture old fashioned, TV out of the ark. Sheet was torn, pillowcase dirty, mould in the bathroom, generally very disappointing. Ordered room service, very disappointing meal arrived, but no wine. Told this would follow. Just finished meal and got very rude phone call from restaurant demanding we go down to pay for the meal, and we could collect the wine. Waited in bar for 20 minutes to be served then threatened by someone else for 'pushing in'. Radiator didn't work, room was freezing, when they got it to work we had to turn it off as it was so noisy. Bed hard and lumpy, mattress torn, pillows like bricks. Duvet old and cover tired. Booked out the next morning, reception staff apologetic, all other staff left a lot to be desired in attitude. 2nd worst hotel I've ever stayed in (the first had rats that ran around) in years of traveling the world. Three hairs in the bathtub....sink peeling on the ceramic...stains and rips in the carpet...no toilet roll holder...locks on doors (main and connecting) were broken off...mold growing on the window seal...moldy old pumpkin decor in reception...dirty […] plates...shall I go on? Oh yes, I could hear other guests' conversations clearly through my room walls, at midnight. Pluses: They did upgrade me to a double on request (I like space). The complimentary biscuits were good.
