"Good quality stay"

We enjoyed a lovely 2-night stay on New Year day and the next day. Surprisingly it was not crowded. The bedroom was clean. We liked the huge bed they provided. We found the hotel staff to be very helpful, especially in helping us to negotiate a good price for taxi to go to various locations of interest. We did not eat at the hotel as there were many eating places (within walking distance of 500m) down the road at La Floriet.

Wao what a wonderful stay, back in 2005, as couple. spent 4 days, enjoyed themed swim pool, near white sand beach, dedicated area for hotel guest. In Jan temp was 28C, lovely... sun. Rooms were average, certainly selected the cheapest one from Elong, so got what we paid. Noisy nights. Food in buffet was awesome. Had a coach service for city. enjoyed our trip.
"A few steps away from being the 5 star resort it aspires to be."

There are many reasons why this hotel is excellent and why me and my wife had such a great stay. The swimming pool is a massive highlight with its opening hours and cleanliness and bar. Next you have the golf cart to the beach which is great too. The location is also amazing, being tucked into a corner of Yalong bay making it very relaxing and a welcome treat to enjoy the fresh sea air in China. However let's look at the facts - this is a reasonably expensive hotel for China and is aiming to compete with other major resorts not only in Sanya but also south east Asia. The amenities inside the hotel need a bit more thought in my opinion. Restaurants with a wider and more reasonably priced menu for one - be aware that with a lack of restaurants nearby you are very restricted. Maybe more in the way of evening entertainment - being in Yalong bay after about 10pm your options are limited unless you want to pay for taxis, or a courtesy car service to another overpriced bar or restaurant. In my opinion Yalong bay and Cactus Resort are beautiful and worth a visit but the area needs to be more prepared to offer entertainment to tourists who on arrival are without many options, and therefore have no choice but to pay way over the odds for average food and service, that anywhere else in China or in Hainan would cost under half the price. I have been to resorts in Fiji, Australia, South America and Europe and this still has a way to come before competing with the big boys.
"Beautiful Resort in Sanya"

Beautiful resort and value for $$$. The beach is away from the resort, as it is not at the beach front. Room is big and clean. The pools are big but they off the pool system maybe to save money therefore the water is very warm and "dead".

Good hotel. Buterfly museum is near. Good room service. We all really enjoyed the relaxing time we spent, specifically at the swimming pool. Guests and staff are very friendly. Back side of the hotel is a mountain, the other side the hotel gardens and swimming pool, behind that a big lake, and than some hotels and the beach to where you were brought with a golf cart service.... The location therefore was nicely isolated and at the same time close to a busier beach. Breakfast was good and the hotel offers good lunch and dining options.

This is my second visit and as my title says it, almost perfect stay except for the female service staff at the front desk. Lack of proper training. No eye contact. As if she's speaking to someone over the phone while i'm standing right in front of her. Replied my enquire with questions and after 10 mins, i am not still enlightened with what time and where should i wait for my booked day tour with the resort around Sanya. Everything else was nice though.

Stayed here in 2010 and really enjoyed it - as we went during the low season we had the pool / beach almost for ourselves and can not judge how the hotel is once it is fully booked. However, we enjoyed the time here and especially the dinner - but please do not expect the staff to speak English :)
"If only the service & restaurants were as good as their pool"

On the website it says 4.5stars. I would give it 3 When we visited there were apparent works to the restaurants which were supposed be completed by 23/08. No works were apparent and we were still there on 30/08 but to no avail. All 3 restaurants were combined into one although we meet found the other 2 which were combined there. Reception is an opened air area which felt incredibly hot when checking in. There was an issue that the travel agent hadn't paid for our stay despite us paying for it in advance. This meant that they took the full 5 nights stay as a deposit on my card which seemed severe & unnecessary. However with the lack of English it was difficult to dispute. Languages spoken are Manadarin & Russian with very limited English. Trying to find out local tourist areas was extremely difficult. Rooms were basic and small in comparison to others we have visited with quite a lot of repairs needed especially in re bathroom area where shower curtains, tiling & stone had mildew. Economic measures meant that there were no complimentary small shower gels just a large dispenser attached to the wall and yet they provided combs, toothbrushes and sewing kits which seemed rather bizaar. We stayed in the superior mountain view room and were disappointed that one of the curtains hid a wall as opposed to a window which made the room rather dingy. On a more positive note the swimming pool was a treat boasting the biggest in Hainan and it certainly was very peaceful. The musical fountains were novel despite playing have yourself a merry little Christmas in August with was bizaar. The private beach is a section of the beach accessed by a frequently run golf cart. The beds are very comfortable although the area is quite noisy with the amount of motorised water sports. The segregated area for swimming is very small given you are in Ye South China Sea. At non point are you in an area deeper that shoulder height. The jet skis and boats all pass by very closely. It ironic that you can sw further in the pool than the sea!! Service was satisfactory & the staff were very courteous. Will I return? I very much doubt it. A very average stay in a hotel which boasts well above its weight.
"cactus resort - good amenities with no smiles"

my wife and I went there for a few days of sun (it was in July so most mornings are rainy). the place is well located for Yalong Bay (the fancier further away from downtown in Sanya). the rooms are nice and with a comfortable enough beds (not an obvious thing in China). they claim to have the largest pool in Yalong bay, which probably it is true. the pool is shallow (1.2m for the adult section) with a relatively large section for kids which is nicely separated. it is a 7 minutes walk to the beach (private beach with long chairs) and you can wait for the little golf carts of the hotel to bring you there and back. we had a "lake view" room (the lake is a small artificial pond) with a nice shower and no balcony. all of this suited us well but - 1. service is non existent with the gloria group, they just very obviously do not train any of their employees. they still think that presenting nice facilities is good enough. a few smiles would go a long way. and if you are not costumed to Chinese service you might feel very uncomfortable. 2. we had an issue with the communication between QUNAR (a local based booking web site) which apparently has bad communication between their system and the one of the hotel. 3. the food is fine, but only for one time. they never change the menu, the chinese menu is reasonable but not at a high enough level. and they never change the buffet menu which is not suitable if you are going to call yourself a resort. the near by restaurants are 15 minutes walk or a short taxi drive from the hotel. but that still leaves you with a breakfast which you will be tired of from the second morning. also the dining hall seem to be too small for the number of guests and finding a seat in the morning might prove to be an issue especially in rainy days. all in all it was fine, and suited us well, but I will think twice before choosing a gloria group hotel in future.

I would like to divide in two parts: amenities and service. Amenities: in general acceptable, but with small effort can be much better. Rooms space acceptable, but no so clean. Morning breakfast mess room, completely dirt and it was a mess... Swimming pool, nice. Beach it was nice, but close (yes, close) at 19.00. Service: few people can speak English. Restaurants: Chinese, too expensive. Korean, lunch time it was great except that take 1 hour for a Cesar salad, and they bring all dishes in steps, so we couldn't get a lunch together (we were 4 adults and 3 children). Dinner time, extremely expensive for a Korean restaurant in China. Beach service, it was the worst service ever, as I mentioned that close at 19.00, so they push you from the comfortable chairs at 18.15. It is a pity because this hotel has a good potential to be easily better.
