"Do not stay at this hotel"
One hour checking in because reception staff said Hotels.com did not exist and hotel had not been paid so we would have to pay again. I refused. They said I must contact Hotels.com. I said that was their responsibility. They said the number I gave did not exist and neither did Hotels.com. It was a bogus company, they said. No-one could speak English […] well enough to communicate. Luckily, my wife is Chinese. So I called the number they said was wrong, and wonderful Hotels.com tried to reason with staff on the phone. The Cactus (well named in my opinion, it IS Cactus) finally acknowledged my booking after a one hour argument during which I refused to sign that if Hotels.com did not pay, I would pay again. Every hot dish in the expensive buffet meal was cold. Our shower was cold only. The phone did not work. No-one helped us on arrival with our bags, although several staff saw us struggling. Although in-room internet was promised, we were told it was not working. Nor the public area wi-fi. Please Hotels.com, take this wreck of a hotel off your list. It does your company no credit at all. Tell people to go to the wonderful Pullman at Sanya Bay instead. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Tolles Hotel, toller Strand"
"Cactus Resort paradis"
Very nice and clean room - staff speaks russian and chinese but managers speak a little english. Food is very oveprised and don't expect to find restaurents in the neighborhood - take bus 15 or 25 to Sanya where food is cheap. The beach is superb (can't say much about the water cause of jellyfish-warning) and so is the swimmingpool. Yalong Bay might […] be a bit to Russian if you're not from Russia yourself. I'd go for Dadonghai Beach if i ever come back.. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"If only the service & restaurants were as good as their pool"
On the website it says 4.5stars. I would give it 3 When we visited there were apparent works to the restaurants which were supposed be completed by 23/08. No works were apparent and we were still there on 30/08 but to no avail. All 3 restaurants were combined into one although we meet found the other 2 which were combined there. Reception is an opened air area which felt incredibly hot when checking in. There was an issue that the travel agent hadn't paid for our stay despite us paying for it in advance. This meant that they took the full 5 nights stay as a deposit on my card which seemed severe & unnecessary. However with the lack of English it was difficult to dispute. Languages spoken are Manadarin & Russian with very limited English. Trying to find out local tourist areas was extremely difficult. Rooms were basic and small in comparison to others we have visited with quite a lot of repairs needed especially in re bathroom area where shower curtains, tiling & stone had mildew. Economic measures meant that there were no complimentary small shower gels just a large dispenser attached to the wall and yet they provided combs, toothbrushes and sewing kits which seemed rather bizaar. We stayed in the superior mountain view room and were disappointed that one of the curtains hid a wall as opposed to a window which made the room rather dingy. On a more positive note the swimming pool was a treat boasting the biggest in Hainan and it certainly was very peaceful. The musical fountains were novel despite playing have yourself a merry little Christmas in August with was bizaar. The private beach is a section of the beach accessed by a frequently run golf cart. The beds are very comfortable although the area is quite noisy with the amount of motorised water sports. The segregated area for swimming is very small given you are in Ye South China Sea. At non point are you in an area deeper that shoulder height. The jet skis and boats all pass by very closely. It ironic that you can sw further in the pool than the sea!! Service was satisfactory & the staff were very courteous. Will I return? I very much doubt it. A very average stay in a hotel which boasts well above its weight.
"cactus resort - good amenities with no smiles"

my wife and I went there for a few days of sun (it was in July so most mornings are rainy). the place is well located for Yalong Bay (the fancier further away from downtown in Sanya). the rooms are nice and with a comfortable enough beds (not an obvious thing in China). they claim to have the largest pool in Yalong bay, which probably it is true. the pool is shallow (1.2m for the adult section) with a relatively large section for kids which is nicely separated. it is a 7 minutes walk to the beach (private beach with long chairs) and you can wait for the little golf carts of the hotel to bring you there and back. we had a "lake view" room (the lake is a small artificial pond) with a nice shower and no balcony. all of this suited us well but - 1. service is non existent with the gloria group, they just very obviously do not train any of their employees. they still think that presenting nice facilities is good enough. a few smiles would go a long way. and if you are not costumed to Chinese service you might feel very uncomfortable. 2. we had an issue with the communication between QUNAR (a local based booking web site) which apparently has bad communication between their system and the one of the hotel. 3. the food is fine, but only for one time. they never change the menu, the chinese menu is reasonable but not at a high enough level. and they never change the buffet menu which is not suitable if you are going to call yourself a resort. the near by restaurants are 15 minutes walk or a short taxi drive from the hotel. but that still leaves you with a breakfast which you will be tired of from the second morning. also the dining hall seem to be too small for the number of guests and finding a seat in the morning might prove to be an issue especially in rainy days. all in all it was fine, and suited us well, but I will think twice before choosing a gloria group hotel in future.

I would like to divide in two parts: amenities and service. Amenities: in general acceptable, but with small effort can be much better. Rooms space acceptable, but no so clean. Morning breakfast mess room, completely dirt and it was a mess... Swimming pool, nice. Beach it was nice, but close (yes, close) at 19.00. Service: few people can speak English. Restaurants: Chinese, too expensive. Korean, lunch time it was great except that take 1 hour for a Cesar salad, and they bring all dishes in steps, so we couldn't get a lunch together (we were 4 adults and 3 children). Dinner time, extremely expensive for a Korean restaurant in China. Beach service, it was the worst service ever, as I mentioned that close at 19.00, so they push you from the comfortable chairs at 18.15. It is a pity because this hotel has a good potential to be easily better.

I stayed there with my wife a year back. The staff were cordial. There were some issues with their English communication, but thats not a major hurdle.. You need to know a little chinese when you are in China.. :-) The hotel is pretty old, but is well-maintained. The rooms are big and staff clean it regularly. The pool in Cactus resort is big and again clean and can be used. The resort was crowded and full of Russians, so, we had a crowded beach.. However, the private beach itself is nice and has a small restaurant as well.. You can enjoy the walk on the sea-shore, the view during sunset is pretty awesome. The beach is 10mins walk from the resort, which is pretty reasonable. They have a golf cart service every 10mins to the beach.. Coming to the food -- The breakfast spread is awesome. We used to stuff ourselves and had a light lunch. We found that the menu in the restaurant for lunch was limited to Chinese options only. So, if someone doesnt like Chinese food, then, its pretty difficult to find other cuisine.. The dinner was awesome as well!! The resort allowed us to check out late without any additional cost too.. The resort has a lot of greenery around, lots of places to take photographs and looks quite spectacular in the evening.. Overall, my stay was awesome and would recommend the resort to my family and friends.. Would love to return there as well..
"hotel for locals and Russians"

It is an old hotel furthest way at the corner of Yalong Bay, so expect transport a little bit more expensive. Though rennovated (they said) still it is old and a bit run down. it is a hotel for for locals and Russians, sorry no compliments I can five to the service and usual customer standard. I saw people hanging their under garments nd bikini drying outside in the public area in the garden etc, not the kind of scenes you would expect from an international hotel. Pool is big, beach is not far and well connected by golf cart (expect 10 min wait) and have their own beach area, but service is not full, you bring your own towels erc, in general it is of proper local chinese standard. cannot expect much from the hotel food, priced high as compared with local hotels and taste bad. Still a good relaxing place but just dont expect western standard. ... and Russians are not the usual polite and friendly customers you may expect.
"Nice hotel, not much to do"
10/10/12 Shelly U Shanghai
My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for 8 nights. The resort itself is beautiful, very clean. Dining options are not so good. The hotel offers a buffet breakfast in one resturant, and a buffet dinner in another. Neither are open for any other meals. The food choices at both are alot to be desired, especially if you're a westerner. Breakfast was 118 RMB per person, which had us filling up on cold, hard fried eggs and potatoes. Dinner was 188 RMB per person, and the only food we could tolerate were the chicken scewers. A waste of money. There are no choices for lunch unless you walk 10 minutes down to the beach, where you can get a hot dog, a sandwich, or a plate of fruit. The directory showed 2 lounges and resturants on the property that weren't even open. We found ourselves ordering room service for breakfast and dinner and skipping lunch. The beach is nice, but they don't offer cushions for the hard wooden chairs, so we couldn't stand to sit or lay on them for more than an hour. We ended up taking a taxi to the Sheraton down the road, where they had a buffet set up on the beach each evening for dinner. 503 RMB per person!! Was not nearly worth that, since we're not into chinese food containing mostly fat and bones in their dishes. But, the atmosphere at the Sheraton was beautiful so we spent the next 2 days using their comfortable beach chairs and beautiful pools (300 RMB each per day), but worth it. The best food we had our entire week was lunch at the Sheraton on the beach, we ordered ground beef sliders. Delicious! We were getting so bored that we took a taxi to the Yalong Bay National Resort district, cost us about 75 RMB for the ride, but it is a fun place with lots of resturants and bars, and bands at night. The most entertainment we'd had all week! All in all, we were pleased with the resort and it's beauty, especially for the price. Also, bring your own coffee if you want it in your room. And be patient with the staff, very few speak English!!
If your objective is to enjoy outdoors, a very nice and huge swimming pool, easy acces to the beach a nice and convenient location near a nice mall, and you want to maximize your budget, this is your hotel. Rooms are clean, quiet and decent, food has good variety for a chinese hotel. People at the hotel seems to try their best, flexible and nice. We stayed there for 5 nights, family of five, and we just loved it. Is not the sheraton or ritz, but highly reccomended to have a nice time off. They offered scuba diving service as well which is not that overpriced, compared to the typical cost of that in that area.

Greta hotel, with most things covered. ideally located opposite the Butterfly valley. Great rooms. B warned most of the staff only speak Mandarin and Russian. very little English is spoken here. AS such most of the guests are Mainlanders and Russians, mostly affluent families and couples in their 30s. this is reflected in the prices at the hotel- which are all mostly a rip off. Expect to pay way over the odds for everything- from laundry, to the shop to food. The restaurant is definitively not good value for money and there is very few shops close buy to buy anything from s- bring your own food. The hotel is a pleasant 10 minute walk from the beach, however complimentary golf carts whisk you to the beach and buss stops daily from 7-7. Free wifi in the lobby and dining areas, wired internet in the room. the room was very impressive, excellent bed and all the mod cons
"A nice hotel with a spacious and charming territory"
01/10/12 selya84 Shanghai, China
The hotel is quite recommendable. It has a vast green territory with lots of nice small details, like hanging chairs, hammocks, fresh water showers.. The smimming pool is huge and has a great view of the hotel and a number of comfortable lounge chairs. There is a small pool bar with a limited choice of drinks. The hotel's beach is about 12 minutes walk away and there is a shuttle car service to and from the beach running every 5-8 minutes. The beach has lounge chairs with umbrellas exclusively for the hotel guests. However, the chairs at the beach unlike at the pool have no mattresses and are therefore quite hard. The hotel does not provide beach towels, but the guests are not prohibited to take the regular shower towels from the rooms to the beach. We did not like our room much, as it was rather small and had no balcony. The bathroom was extremely small and the bathtub was leaking, so the bathroom floor was always wet. However, the beds were very comfortable. And there was everything necessary in the room, including a kettle, a fridge, lots of mirrors, a table, a wardrobe.. Complimentary water. Complimentary broadband internet. Free wifi in the lobby. The breakfast was great, a mixture of Chinese and Western dishes. Fresh pastries. Indoor and outdoor seating. However, there was not that much seating space at peak hours. A bit pricey at 80 rmb per person per day. Unfortunately, we found it a bit tricky finding passable dining options in the Yalong Bay area. The hotel only offers buffet dinner in the evening (188 rmb a person - too pricey. You could also go to the other hotels, but their meals are also rather expensive and nothing special. There is an entertainment (shopping+dining) complex at Crown Plaza hotel (about 15 minutes walk to the right from the Cactus along the beach ). There you can get some Chinese restaurants, a Pizza Hut, expensive and deserted shops and a small supermarket. For more dining and shopping options one has to go to Dadonghai Bay (10 rmb by bus, 50-60 rmb by taxi).
