My wife and I had an excellent stay at Bougainvillea, it was our second time staying there and our fourth time to the Barbados. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone visting Barbados. The Front Desk staff and the restaurant staff were very helpful and friendly.

The location is nice if you like more of a secluded hotel. Not much is within walking distance of the hotel. Of the two restaurants in the hotel, one was typically closed. They are closed on Fridays and neither of them would be open past 10:00pm at night. It would have been nice to have a bar at the hotel open later. We found that after going out for […] dinner, when we wanted to com back to the hotel for a drink, there was no where to go. The hotel itself was challenging to navigate. In most hotels, if two groups of people are on the same floor, they would be able to easily walk from one hotel room to another by walking down the hall. Here, it was designed more like an apartment building (a walk-up). I would have to walk up 4 flights of stairs to get to my room. If I wanted to get to a different room on the 3rd floor, I would have to go down 4 flights of stairs, walk in the parking lot to get to the next entrance, and then walk up 3 flights of stairs. Elevators would be nice, and if the sections of the hotel were connected, that would be very helpful. The rooms were very nice, however, I don't believe the housekeepers changed the sheets on the bed each night. The "King" sized bed was actually just two twin beds put together, along with that insert that converts twin beds into a King. The mattresses were uncomfortable. Read more

Seemed very nice compared to some the other properties in the area and I think the price was reasonable although there might be better deals to be had. We stayed just 2 nights en route to Bequia. The beach & pool were very nice. Only complaint was that they gave us a fourth floor room and there is no elevator which was a major inconvenience because […] I have bad knees. We requested a room change which they could not provide. It was ok for 2 days but anyone with similar joint issues should ask in advance for a room on a lower floor. At first site, we were disappointed in the decor of the hotel and the room. The rooms need updating. However, the view and proximity to the ocean were amazing. Man, it was a wonderful time here. My wife and I were the only black couple (not important) on this resort, which was very surprising but what was more surprising was that the reception was exceptional. we were embraced like everyone else though we were the heavily dominated minority. Barbados and this resort is very tourist friendly! Service was outstanding […] and the rooms were extremely clean. So clean, you can eat off the floor.. if that's your thing lol. The reost staff made you feel at thome, treasted everyone as an extended family. THe entertainment that was held three times over teh week was incredible as well. We were there for hte first week of December and they rolled out the decorations for Christmas, hoset a caroling party, etc, and made even the warm Carribean feel like Christmas!

I just returned a few days ago from my quick trip to Barbados (Nov. 1st - 5th, 2012) & I cannot say enough positive things about my experience at the Bougainvillea Beach Resort. I'm inherently a skeptic & I do extensive research prior to choosing vacation destinations. I read through many reviews of the Bougainvillea Beach Resort before I booked & I […] felt comfortable enough to do so from what I read. The trip I took to Barbados was for my 25th Birthday & I traveled alone. I booked a Deluxe Studio & requested an ocean view (cannot be guaranteed). My flight was delayed & I didn't check in until late, but there was still a very helpful front desk clerk available & a porter who brought my bags to my room. Check in was easy and fast, & a $200 hold was placed on my credit card for incidentals. My room was 5312. I was so pleased to open the doors to the balcony & hear/see the ocean - plus a lovely view of the "garden" (pool area w/ greenery which includes the Bougainvillea flowers the hotel is named after). I found an envelope on my kitchenette set which was a Birthday card hand-signed with wishes from the staff- such a lovely touch... & even more to my surprise, there was a bottle of champagne in my refrigerator left for me! I was already so happy to see how clean and pretty the room was, so these additional touches really just set the tone for my whole stay. The hotel was very beautiful, with a very pretty, private beach. Staff was extremely helpful, kind, and polite. I went with my 2 children and there's lots for them to do, i.e. hang out in the game room, chill in the multiple pools, jet-ski, go tubing, etc. The kayaking and boogie-boarding were complementary with the hotel and was always available for […] anyone's use. We had a suite with lots of room and a full kitchen where we cooked often and had nice meals on our balcony. Movie night on Tuesday was a lot of fun for the kids, and they served popcorn and drinks. There was also some nightly entertainment. Happy hour at the bar was always a great fun for the adults. The resort was absolutely wonderful. We had some problems the first day with things not working in the room, and they moved us immediately. The rest of the week was great. We had a great beach and good pool. Leena, the evening manager was perfect. Would go back in a second.

We (couple, high 20's) had a great stay at this Hotel in June (off-season, but awesome weather and few people). For a full 7 days we enjoyed the facility and its surroundings. The complex feels smaller than it is due to it's smart and cosy set-up, and seems free of noise due to the waterfalls and ocean waves providing a true holiday background. There […] are three small pools (one with swim-to-bar) adjacent to the beach. We have seen much of the island, and had a hard time finding a more beautiful beach (even vs some of the the travel guide recommendations). The south side of the island provides the more economical alternative to the overpriced west coast. Still, there are great dining options for those looking for high-end. St Lawrence Gap is very close (c. 5 minute by taxi, or 10 minute by the frequent mini-buses), and Oistins is the Island's main eat/party destination on Friday/Saturday when people show-up from 6pm onwards for the recurring Fish Fry (many choices at low prices). The staff at this hotel is friendly and plenty. The resort and the rooms are very clean, and personnel is helpful. We enjoyed lunch and dinner on multiple days, including the weekly BBQ organized after the Manager's cocktail party. All-in-all we had nothing negative to add. Barbados is not cheap, but there are options for everyone's budget. Its inhabitants are friendly, well-educated, we felt very safe, the island was clean, the weather was great...we prefer this over some other Caribbean destinations. Read more

The Bougainvillea is located just next to the beach. Lovely and helpful staff. There were some young people wandering the grounds at around 4am and caused a ruckus. The hotel need better security for this matter, as we were startled and there were bottles of liquor in front of our door in the morning. This is my third stay at this spot, located 15 min from airport and 5 min from nightlife. Only 2 negatives. The buffet breakfast is expensive (buy the meal-plan) and there is often a concert on the weekends in the central garden. It was loud for the kids trying to get to sleep on time.

We took our 10 and 12 year old with us. This was a perfect hotel. I wished I had caught the free shuttle to the market, though. If you get the right person at the Activity Desk who matches your likes and dislikes, then great. Advice: do not change US dollars at the hotel. The locals will change your dollars at $2 BBD for every $1 while the hotel will give you $1.98 or a bit less and an exchange fee. Everyone took US dollars. This was our first holiday trip with our 3 month baby and our 4 year old boy. I was fearing I wouldn't be able to rest and enjoy the beauty of Barbados, but the hotel is totally kids friendly. My 4 year old boy had the best time in the kiddie pool and we could confortably watch him while having a drink by the pool bar. Bougainvillea was a pretty nice hotel, just not quite perfect. The grounds are beautiful, and you have your own private little beach to lay out on and dip in the water. Their watersports desk offered free use of several types of stuff - we even took the snorkels out for the better part of a day elsewhere on the island. You can trade in dirty beach towels […] for a clean one anytime you like. The room was nicely cleaned daily, had a great view of the pools and ocean - we liked eating breakfast on the balcony each morning. The gym/fitness room like awesome too, just never got a chance to use it. Definitely nicer than most hotels would offer. My only negatives are that the staff (at least front desk and management) kind of make you feel like you need to stay there on the property to use their (overpriced) activities and restaurants. You can find much better activities off-site, and in calmer, clearer waters. We discovered several other restaurants and bars within walking distance (we Loved "Dante Pablos"!). Also, taxis are very expensive and you can easily take the "Zed-R" (small transport vans from the main road) for $1! (hotel would never mention this). Great for getting to Bridgetown, St. Lawrence Gap, and Oistins (good place for a cheap meal, and has ATM and Grocery Stores). So get out and explore!! The area is safe enough, just use common sense, especially at night. We LOVED el Tigre catamaran cruises! and "Fat Jacks" right down the street for a car rental! Read more

The island as a whole was warm and welcoming. As a woman travelling alone, I felt very safe and comfortable in Barbados. A trainer is available too. There are two restaurants and I preferred the Waters Edge over The Latern. The rooms were nicely equipped, well maintained and had the most comfortable bed. We were greeted by a very helpful and enthusiastic staff. The beach was immaculate and the water was warm and calm. THe boys taking care of the towels, umbrellas, and jet skis were extrememly nice and patient. I found the prices of the food to be extremely high. We cooked for most of our stay in our little kitchenette. The nightly entertainment was […] wonderful. The bands were so awesome, we recorded them. We booked a snorkeling adventure through the hotel. That was the best day ever. I would go back but pack lots of food or snacks to munch on. The grocery store close by has a few things but not a lot and it is quite a ways to walk. Taxis are quite expensive also. Book all your sightseeing ahead of time or the day you get there. December is packed with tourists so events fill up fast. Read more

The Bougainvillea Resort was definitely the place to stay in Oistins / St. Lawrence Gap area. Although not right in the Gap, the hotel is stunning ... really beautiful with lush landscaping located directly on the beach, and it was only a short cab ride or 25 minute walk to the Gap. It has two beach areas with umbrellas and chairs, and two pools (one […] with an awesome swim up bar and waterfalls). It also has two restaurants, which were pretty nice, but the food was just OK (kind of pricey). I would recommend eating outside the resort for main meals. The rooms were very large. Our room had a small kitchen with a stove/oven. microwave, toster, hot water kettle, and refridgerator. We really enjoyed staying here ... having the kitchen with the little corner store nearby came in handy. Every room had a beach view of some sort and large private balconies. It is kid friendly, but the kids were usually in the daytime programs ... so we hardly ever saw them. Another bonus was that the hotel had WiFi, so I could use my iPhone to research the island. It even worked on the beach! Most importantly, everything is SUPER CLEAN! Compared to the other resorts ... this one was the nicest. We would recommend this to anyone traveling to the Gap area. This was our second time visiting Barbados and staying at the Bougainvillea. The hotel's location is perfect, close to the Gap and bus stops (we found that taking the bus for $1.50 Barbados was a bargain compared to a taxi ride). The beach is very nice as well. They also have a good happy hour at the only bar (by the pool). The down side? The hotel […] needs to be updated, the beds are horrible and the sheets were paper thin. Our daily service was good and everything was clean but again it's just old and outdated. They should think about having beach and pool service for drinks/food. That would be an improvement for sure. We just spent the past week at Bougainvillea for our honeymoon, and can't say enough about how wonderful it was. Our 1BR studio had been upgraded to a suite, and was extremely spacious and well-appointed with a full kitchen. The fitness center is one of the best I've seen (and I travel a lot). The staff was extremely accommodating, and stepped in to […] help with small things before even being asked (for example, I had trouble with my gym access key and a staff member came to help before I even had the chance to ask for assistance). The beach is terrific- we went for a 4hr walk along the coast and saw that many other resorts have rocky or unusable beaches, but ours had a lot of sand, calm but fun waves, and no rocks. The location is very convenient to attractions- we only rented a car one day and relied on the buses or walked the rest of the trip. The neighborhool seemed safe and we walked back from the bus each night with no concerns at all. September is the slow season so the Buon Amici restaurant was closed and the Thurs night show was cancelled, but Lanterns restaurant was good, the service was great, and we took the bus to some terrific restaurants in the area. The cleaning staff did a wonderful job. It looked like they had a strong children's activity center, and we would think about having a family vacation here in the future. Overall, an absolutely fabulous hotel and you just can't beat the value. I can't believe how little we paid for such a great resort!
