"Horrible birthday & engagement experience!"
Horrible birthday & engagement experience ever! The check-in clerk was very rude & hostile. Very unorganized. The door to the room would not open properly with access card. The room was falling apart (a/c not working all night we were boiling, lamp light flickering with wiring connected illegally as fire hazard, tub leaking we had to soak water with […] towels). We should get a refund for all this inconvenience and horrible experience. Food was ok. However, private beach was beautiful. Location was convenient for us. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Snorkeling & Diving Very Good, Coffee Terrible"
The natural attractions were the best part of our stay and the reason we choose Tobago. Snorkeling around the artificial rock wall that protected the Coco Reef beach yielded views of a wide variety of reef fish species, crabs, a stingray and my favorite--a pod of reef squid. My husband & I did 7 dives with Undersea Tobago including a night dive which […] was magical with the phosphorescence. The reefs seem fairly well protected there and there was a lot of variety. We saw a green sea turtle & an octopus as well. We were there during the rainy season and that did affect visibility. The rain showers were mostly short and some days were clear though, so overall it did not affect our trip much. We choose the breakfast buffet option and not the all inclusive because we like to try local restaurants and venture out. That did not always turn out for the best however. The food stalls at Bucco Reef gave my daughter stomach problems and my husband and aunt got sick after eating chicken roti at Jenny's. Also dinner at the hotel was quite expensive at $25-50 US. We had very good meals at the hallal restaurant walking distance from the hotel--left on of the driveway and a short walk on left. We all enjoyed the kebabs and the price was very reasonable. The pillows were lumpy and I had to ask twice for extras. Service was slow and spotty at times. My aunt had to ask for extra towels every day. There was confusion booking through Expedia & had to pay extra for a 3rd person on arrival. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice hotel close to the beach"
I liked that the hotel is within an easy walking distance from the airport. And when I arrived the hotel staff was friendly and I was glad to receive a complementary fruit drink while I waited for my room to be ready. The front desk was helpful whenever I needed to get in contact with my family who were also staying at the hotel. And I could easily […] find someone to help get a taxi or ticket to the glass bottom boats that were located nearby. The waiters were all helpful and polite at the restaurant, and ready to give me a drink whenever I was lounging in the lobby or at the hotels beach. Since I did not have the luxury package the first couple of days I found the hotels location an easy walking distance from several fast food restaurants, markets and a couple of bars. And on a finishing note air conditioners in each room were a welcome relief on a hot day. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Great staff, friendly and helpful. Food excellent and plentiful. Location easy to get in and out. Was a pleasant experience overall. It's really the location and the fact that it has a beach that would bring me back. The architecture was pretty as well... What could surely be improved would be the customer service and the food--breakfast was alright (loved sitting there drinking Lipton and munching on salt-fish and bake, looking out over the water). […] My school cafeteria did better than the dinner, though (a luke-warm buffet that needed a lot of hot sauce--and pricey!). Some of the folk there were quite genuine, but I felt like the staff gave a bit of attitude and weren't over-glad to be there. Having requested assistance with a problem at the beginning, I was left with the feeling that I would manage better on my own the next time something happened. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great beach. Great location. Super staff"
We had a great time. The hotel was nice, located in a great area. Snorkeling around the beach's rock barrier was spectacular- we saw schools of all kinds of fish. The view from our room was beautiful. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the included breakfast was expansive. The only complaint I have is that the rooms were a little run down […] and the bed was not comfortable. We would definitely go back. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Dated and poor value for the money"
On arrival the initial welcome was OK but not continued by the staff we dealt with when checking in. Although our stay was for just the weekend, other then informing us where breakfast is served we where left to our own to find out about the other facilities offered at the resort. When arriving at our room it was found to be clean with a welcoming […] note of palm leave segments on the bed. The room was functional but dated and the standards of the towels where more reflective of a budget hotel. This was also the case of the towels available for the beach which we found two to have stains on them. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Palm Trees and Coral Sand"
Exceeded expectations: a classic colonial style design hotel with prime beach setting. Lazy dreamy days on the beach under the palm trees or on the hotel patio, gazing over the Caribbean. I enjoyed every moment of it, I carried my gf there for the first time, I am from Trinidad and we both were in awe of the beautiful beaches. "Beautiful location, friendly staff, old rooms"
Coco Reef Hotel is a beautifully located hotel with a great private beach with warm sea water, due to the protected architecture of the beach with rocks separating it from the sea. The old colonial style radiates class and refinement. The lobby and common areas are very stylish and beautifully decorated with paintings and art. The hotel grounds are […] beautiful and the hotel gardens are grand. There are many places to sit and relax. The beach has plenty beach chairs and palapa's (umbrella's). A full buffet breakfast with hot and cold items and an egg-station is included and after breakfast the guests at the beach receive complimentary smoothies and fresh fruit from the hotel while enjoying the sun. The gym is well equipped, air-conditioned and very comfortable. The pool is also very nice and well maintained. There is live entertainment every night around 20:00, which is very nice. This hotel is ideal for those who wish to avoid the crowds and enjoy old colonial class. Arriving guests receive a welcome drink (except when you arrive late in the evening or at night). There are no air-conditioned common areas, except for the bar and the gym. The hotel staff is friendly and considerate. Rooms: air-conditioned with private baths and a balcony, nicely decorated with a tropical colonial theme, but very dated. The bathroom was very old. There was no desk to get some work done and there were few power outlets and NO internet. Only paid wifi in the lobby (did not work on BlackBerry). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice location but need upgrading"
Hotel is in great need of an upgrade. No WIFI in the rooms and TV's are old. Sliding doors function poorly and dcor is circa 1980's. Staff and management are indifferent since, with all of its flaws, the hotel has the best beach location on the island. The grounds and beach facilities are in great shape.Genuine Expedia guest review
The resort is gorgeous, food was good, and room very clean. The beach and views were beautiful, but we didn't realize that "private beach" meant a wall on each end of the beach, so we couldn't walk the beach past the wall. Pool was very small. That wasn't important to us, but thought I'd mention it. Also, the resort was full of British vacationers - […] we were the only Americans which was somewhat of a culture shock. The live music in the evening at the resort was more like elevator music and lacked any local flavor at all. We would have liked to hear some SOCA or calypso music! "The best option for a family."
My wife and I were searching for a perfect hotel for us and our two kids ages 2 and 7. Glad to say we hit the jackpot with Coco Reef. The private beach is second to none. We snorkled, rode the paddle boat and kayak all day. The pool was on the smaller side, but was fantastic for an evening swim. We had the buffet breakfast included and this was also […] perfect. We did not eat lunch nor dinner at the hotel (it was a bit expensive) but there were plenty of eating choices just outside of the hotel (walking distance). We took the boys to Pigeon Point (supposedly the best beach in Tobago) and we spent 5 minutes before both boys asked to return to the private beach at Cocoreef. Pigeon point was a bit wavy, deep in some places and full of coral on the sea floor. The private beach at Cocoreef was never way, shallow for about 10 feet outwards, and sandy - not rocky. The room was always kept clean, the garden view, allowed us a private patio to relax in the evening without seeing other hotel guests (the ocean view rooms especially those by the pool did not enjoy much privacy at all). All in all we had a good time, and we're already planning our next trip there. The beach did it for us, everything else was a bonus. To be fair, the linens and furniture were on the older side but the room was always kept clean. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great Potential, Horrible Service"
The property is in a spectacular location with extreme convenience to the best beaches, restaurants and the airport. However, the building is older and outdated, and the pool leaves alot to be desired. In fact while there I didn't see one person using the pool. The worst feature of the hotel was the service. The ratings above do not do justice to this resort. The views are fabulous, the private beach is fabulous, and most of all the natual sea pool between the beach and rocks about a 100 meters out is absolutely fabulous! "Restful vacation with mother"
I enjoyed my stay at the Coco Reef hotel. I took my mother there for a much needed vacation and she truly enjoyed it. We will definitely return. However, I must say that I have a few comments which I hope will assist the hotel in improving the quality of its service. Firstly, I was disappointed by the quality of the food, especially the local dishes. […] The bake and saltfish was not very authentic - I am Trinidadian. I will advice the chef to seek advice from a local cook on how to prepare these dishes. Secondly, I believe that the lunch which I paid for was much too expensive- I paid TT$ 400 for lunch for my mother and myself- and the fare was not very inspiring. In fact, my mother thought that the chicken she ate was 'old'. The following day, we visited Storebay where we had a meal for less than TT$ 100, which my mother truly enjoyed. We decided against having lunch at the hotel after this experience. I believe that the hotel could lose on the potentially lucrative lunch guests. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great For Family"
We were very disappointed when we got there. We had to wait and extra 30 minutes to check in. The first room they put us in was just horrible. An awful ordor hit you as soon as you waked in the room. I asked the bellboy what that smell was and he said there was no smell. Definitely a strong urine smell. The next day we told the desk about the smell […] and asked to change rooms. They changed our room without incident. Very, very pleased with the new room. Couldn't ask for a better room. Needless to say our stay was much more pleasant than when we first got there. You can kayak and paddleboat right on the premises and it's in the price of the hotel, no extra charge. The people were friendly enough and the food is great. Very conveniently located. "Great for family with small children"
We stayed in the off-season, so the hotel and staff were a bit quiet. The hotel is in bad need of modernisation (it's like being in the 1980's, with tired decor and ancient furniture). As a minimum, they should renew the bed linen, away from old sheets and blankets to new sheets and simple duvet would help. The staff are okay, a few friendly ones […] but mainly disinterested (but we understand this is normal in Tobago). The big selling points are the location (close to airport) and the private, protected beach and swimming area. The gardens are also beautifully kept, and the hotel is very clean. "DIvers from the USA"
Overall, great stay. The reason for our stay other than for holiday was for diving. Initially, our group was supposed to dive with another dive company and they had some issues so we gave the dive/surf shop a chance located on the resort with Coco Reef. We ended up diving all week with them. Undersea Tobago is the name. Shout out to Derek, CeeCee […] and Elis for a wonderful experience. As far as the hotel goes, it was very serene. The beach was the best part. I traveled all around Tobago and from what I had seen and talked with others, Coco Reef is the place to stay. The breakfast was fresh and delicious. My favorite part was eating with an Eagle Owl. (she was there to scare the wild birds away during breakfast) The rest of the food was decent but over priced. There is a little restaurant about a 5 minuet walk away called Dillon’s in which the food is moderately priced. Cocktails were very bland for the average price of $8.00 US. I suggest bring your own and take a cab to the local grocery store to get some mixers and beer. The reception as well as the staff were very warm and friendly. The only person whom seemed to have a bad attitude was a woman that worked in the inner bar area close to the reception desk. (she appeared to be hating life) Our room overlooked a simple garden and the interior decoration of the room reminded me of the late 1990s decorating. Overall, this resort is ideal for families or couples of any age, it offers a wide range of activities from swimming in coconut bay to snorkeling in the nearby ocean, jet skiing, scuba etc.. "Time the management listened to the complaints"
The location of the hotel, overall ambiance and views were all very good, but the hotel suffers from mediocre food and generally unhelpful and unfriendly staff, most of whom were either poorly trained, or simply uninterested in providing the type of service expected in a so called 5 star resort. On the day of departure, I received an itemized invoice, […] stating that if a late departure was needed this could be arranged. As my flight was not until 9.00pm, even an extra two or three hours would have been nice. Unfortunately the front desk clerk obviously wasn't on the same page as the management and stated bluntly that I couldn't stay any longer at all! Of course there were one or two helpful and friendly staff, but these were few and far between. What is most surprising is that the same has been said by countless previous reviewers, but the management is clearly indifferent. This is a shame, as the resort could be really fantastic. Good points were the views, beach and gardens, and the superb dive school, but if there were a genuine alternative on Tobago, I'd take it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Coco Reef Long Weekend"
Overall the hotel was a plesent experience. The location in Crown Point is beautiful and very relaxing. However ther are some points that need to be noted for this four star rated hotel. The rooms are dated and in need of redecorating and bringing up to standard, the alacarte menue was very dissapointing and not to be recomended at the cost. getting […] anything outside the alloted meal times is difficult and very slow. Some, not all, of the staff are not up to the requirements of todays luxury hotel standards. The surrounding area, with the exception of Pigeon Point, is run down and will soon take on a look of a depressed area if it is not dealt with by the Tobago authorities. Did we feel safe walking around, yes, is there anything immediately outside the hotel other than bars and cheap food outlets worth looking, not much. Hire a car and go around the island and there is much to see. Next time I go I will hire a luxury villa, they are better value for money and the views from some are exceptional. "Coco Reef was a big disappointment"
When we arrived at the Coco Reef we were not immediately greeted, once we were checked in the only information that was given was that there was a dress code for the restaurant and that the hotel had a no cash policy (no tipping). When we got to our room we were extremely disappointed, the beds were old and extremely cheap, there was a 19” TV that randomly […] worked ( the cable was in and out (mostly out)) the bathroom was tiny and there was only one towel, my wife requested more towels was questioned as to why we needed more towels. There were no lights on the balcony and the ceiling in the room had a leak which we didn’t notice until the last day; the slow drip was hitting the bed spread and was hidden until we pulled the sheets off the as we were packing to leave (my kids were in that bed for four nights). When we complained the staff just look at us like we were crazy. The restaurant was outdoor and the first night when we had dinner cats started to roam the throughout the tables and when I mentioned this to the managed he simple stated the cats were looking for food…the restaurant staff made no efforts to get the cats to leave. The next morning we got up for breakfast and sat down at the same restaurant the service was terrible and the entire restaurant was being attacked by the local bird flying through to steal food. The Cuban art displayed throughout the hotel is fantastic. After staying a few days we noticed that hotel is not maintained as well as it should. What is missing is attention to detail. Food in restaurant […] was tasty with nice presentation.
