Overview

A great choice for serious shoppers, the elegant Fitzpatrick Manhattan Hotel on Lexington Avenue stands four blocks from Bloomingdale's, Saks Fifth Avenue and close to other world-renown stores. Irish to the core, the Fitzpatrick also is nifty for museum aficionados, being close to the Museum of Modern Art and other history-laden museums. The Museum of Television and Radio, six blocks from the hotel, offers exhibits about news, documentary, comedy, sports and children's programming. Built in 1926, the boutique hotel also stands four blocks from 843-acre Central Park, where patrons can walk, jog, boat, bike, hike, play tennis and ride horses.
Infused with European elegance and Irish flair, the Manhattan Fitzpatrick is appointed with Waterford chandeliers, original moldings and a marble fireplace imported from Ireland, plush red sofas, gold-striped armchairs and dark-wood furnishings. The hotel's restaurant and pub serves hearty Irish breakfasts of eggs, Irish bacon, sausage, grilled tomatoes and black-and-white pudding, and combines traditional Irish, continental and New American cuisines. In addition, the pub stays open late for guests to relax. This Manhattan Fitzpatrick also offers 24-hour room service, concierges, limos or Town Cars, wireless Internet access, tour assistance, video library and complimentary access to a fitness club nearby.

Beamed ceilings, brass fixtures and rosewood furniture form a welcoming, relaxed ambience in the guestrooms and suites. Moderately sized rooms also include coffee makers, data ports, trouser presses, terrycloth bathrobes and video games. More spacious suites feature king-sized beds, sitting areas with pullout couches, wet bars, coffeemakers, refrigerator, two cable TVs, three dual-line telephones and fax machines.

    A short guide to Midtown

Some of NYC’s best-known landmarks are north of 14th and south of 59th—or Midtown Manhattan. Here, couples kiss atop the Empire State Building. Grand Central Station’s opal-faced clock is a famed meeting spot. While fortunes are made on Wall Street, fortunes are spent at Fifth Avenue’s shops. Other highlights include Madison Square Garden, the United Nations, and the Garment and Diamond districts.

We like everything about the hotel except that the room was hot. NYC was unseasonably warm. When we asked for our room to be cooler we were told that the entire airconditioning system was shut off. Must be the age of the hotel building? Reminds me of being in junior high in the 70's and either you got ac or heat.

The hotel was in an ideal location--walking distance to many sites. The interior was fairly nice, but the room that we were given was tiny one that was squeezed next to a presidential suite and had a window onto other buildings' rooftops--not much of a view. When checking in I also stated that I wanted only one bed, but they said that the only room available was one with two beds. It took a while for the water to warm for a shower, and the ipod/radio dock didn't work and was replaced. And the electricity went out for a time, and we had to call someone in to turn it back on. It was pretty cheap for the location, and the condition and size/location of the room is expected for the price that you pay. Next time in NY, I would probably stay somewhere else if I could find something in a similar price range.

Stayed in 1 br suite. Very nicely appointed if small- this somewhat expected for NYC. Very comfortable bed. I had booked 1 kng bed and got 2 full beds instead but I did not complain- it still worked out for me. I was travelling wth my 2 young kids and that meant that instead of them sleeping in the sofabed they slept with us on the other full bed. Service at restaurant was slow but they were nice and responsive when I pointed out they had overcooked the eggs. They immediately offerred to take it off the bill and to do t again- which refused fearing it would take long... I found the staff to be very pleasant. Very convenient and central location.

This is our third visit to the hotel - we love it because it is so central, warm and friendly. Great for shopping and just a couple of blocks from central park where we love to go for a morning run. The hotel has recently been refurbished and the restaurant is now at the front of the hotel - much better idea.

Housekeeping cleaned the room but did not restock the toiletries. Room service was poor with most menu items unavailable. The television in the living room did not work. When the staffed was informed he stated it was "not his problem, it's the cable company’s deal". The place has great potential but some staff seems uninspired.

The hotel was nice, rooms small, but the shower was a water saving shower head from a 'rain shower' position in the ceiling resulting in a 'mist' like shower, difficult to get the soap off. The bead sheets were too short for the bed, leaving the bottom of the bed approx. 18" without sheet. No ice machine available so you had to request from room service and sometimes this resulted in an hour wait or no ice at all. Several days the glasses were removed from the room and not returned. No internet was available, and there was no booklet in the room to tell you about any hotel services. So I guess if you don't mind a few inconviences, the hotel is for you, location, etc.

We could look at persons in other room & vica versa. Several TV stations not available throughout our stay (all local New York news & current affairs stations & SHOULD have been available. When we enquired about this, we were informed that there was a problem & that it would be resolved. However it was NOT resolved during our stay of 4 days. Staff on Service Desk had no knowledge of local train transportation - we had to go to local Waldorf Astoria Hotel to get correct knowledge.

Great location. Quiet. Clean and nicely decorated lobby, halls, and rooms. Nice staff. Good value. Areas of improvement: No towel racks--a real pain. Broke glass accidentally--never replaced. Makeup mirror a plus but so high that I was unable to use it. No soap dish. Too few hangers. TV did not work and reported to front staff. Not fixed. Could not open bathroom window. A sitting chair would have been nice and a standup lamp.

Having booked my 3 nights here based primarily on the reviews, I was fairly confident that I would walk away having been satisfied - but ended up walking away extremely pleased. I booked this room for the purposes of attending a wedding with a group of co-workers who were also coming from out of town. They all ended up staying at a different hotel, and considering their comments on their room size coupled with the fact that they paid significantly more than I did, I made the better choice. My room was a 1 bedroom suite (not sure if all of their rooms are like this) overlooking Lexington avenue. The bed was very comfortable, all the way down to 4 gigantic pillows. I was able to rest and work from my room in comfort. What stood out more was the staff. Having used websites like hotels.com before to book rooms, I have experienced instances where I felt I was being "looked down upon" due to the fact that I hadn't booked the room directly through the property, but that was not the case here. The desk clerk was very nice, accommodating my request for a higher floor (for the view). I was called every day by housekeeping to inquire whether or not I needed my room serviced (I was working from the room during the day, so not leaving) and even though I did not, I was asked several times if I at least needed clean towels. Upon checking out, I was greeted with a smile, a quick check-out process, asked if I needed help with my bags and/or transportation. The food via room service was good (maybe a tad overpriced, but it's New York, and it's room service) - and they offer a late night menu which is nice. I will stay here again without a doubt.

We were there over two days of near 90 degree temps and were given some lame excuse as to why there was no air conditioning. The person at the desk said that the city wouldn't let them turn on the ac until May 1st. I'm sure if we went to any other hotel we would have had ac. I was in NYC on business and couldn't sleep in the heat.

I was a little apprehensive but after looking at everything available and deciding how much I wanted to pay I chose this hotel. It is so well located, we went shopping that afternoon and everything was walking distance. When we checked in we got upgraded to a suite which was beautiful and comfortable and clean and with a great bathroom. The room was very, very large, especially for NY standards. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the breakfast the next day was delicious. We loved staying there and we will go back. This is a great small hotel.

We stayed at the Fitzpatrick Manhattan on Valentine's Day for one night. We actually took the chance and drove our car into the city. From the Lincoln Tunnel, I'd say it only took us about 12-15 minutes to get to the hotel (using a gps)... and it was very easy to find! We did valet parking, and the following day it only took a few minutes for us to get our car back. The room we stayed in was one of the newly renovated rooms. For 2 people, I thought it was quite comfortable, clean, and spacious. Our room even had a mini-bar with a sink and small fridge. The hotel is about a block from the nearest subway, and there are lots of stores and shops all around it. It is definitely located in a prime location (for shoppers). The hotel staff was very nice and professional. I would definitely stay there again!

Our rooms were beautifully appointed, comfortable and quiet. Only complaint: the windows are old and leaky, so in cold weather, cold air streams into the room. Especially problematic in the bathroom!. Also, the heating system controls were balky, with only two options: too hot or too cold.

Here is a quick synopsis of our visit to NYC. We took a cab from Penn Station and arrived with assistance at the door waiting. There was no wait and I was handed two keys to my room within 60 seconds after verifying my reservation with a credit card. My luggage was taken by bell hope and we were on the elevator and up in seconds. We arrived on our floored and notiuced there are only 6 rooms per floor, very quant. Upon entry I was surprised by the size, bigger than most NYC hotels. No bathtub, so that was out. The bed was amazingly comfortable. The tv reception was sketchy in and out due to the receivers. The lighting was perfect. Not much of a view, but we were on a cross street. Excellent heaters, quick but was hard to monitor at first. Luggage was brought up right behind us in less than 3 minutes. We were offered discounts to shopping stores locally. The lobby and lounge were very clean and decorataed nicely for the holiday season. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had our way with the city and upon returning we were not bothered once. The night was amazing! The next morning check out was easy, bags ready. They let us check them at the door to pick up later, which too seconds again. After that day, we were heading home, returned for our bags, and got them in minutes. Taxi was hailed for us and on our way. The best experience yet in NYC. Thanks Fitz!
