"Excellent Secluded Vacation"
Fantastic overall, but I must mention that with the exception of an employee at the Reception desk who was somewhat rough when approaching the guests; but of course I assured she realized that I was paying three months of her salary with my stay. The rest of the staff were extremely respectful and their service skills equates to a 5-star resort. The […] wonderful view to the sea, semi-private beach, water sports, hiking, boat trips are just few things you can enjoy at there. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect little vacation"
I would definitely return. There are apparently direct flights into Ponce now, but we flew into SJ and had a lovely 2-hour drive across the island. Absolutely affordable rates (you can find cheaper on expedia but remember there's a 20% resort fee) and low-profile, low-footprint luxury. Beautiful grounds, and the beach right in front is very shallow […] so good for kids and the swimmable deeper beach is just 100 yards down the way. The restaurants and drinks are not cheap ($20 entrees and $7 cocktails), but hey, it's paradise. There's a very relaxed, friendly feeling among the guests. None of the rooms is really "ocean front" -- they can face the ocean but there are about 80 yards of grounds (lovely grounds) between the beach and the room. That's just if you're looking for the step-out-of-your-room-to-the-sand effect. One major recommendation I have for them is to send waiters around to the beach; they would do a lot more in revenue if someone was always asking if we wanted a drink refill! "Laid Back Puerto Rico"
I was a week away from finishing a very intense job and my wife told me we had to take a decompressing vacation when I finished. I typed into Google "Quiet, Laid Back, Puerto Rico". Copamarina popped up first. Google had it Exactly right. Great staff. No rain or humidity (It's in Puerto Rico's Dry Forest).Genuine Expedia guest review
"A real find!!!"
Away from the crowds of San Juan and the northeast coast, Copacamarina is an oasis of calm beauty. There is everything and nothing to do depending upon your preference. The staff are unendingly lovely, helpful and kind. The protected bay is minutes from plenty of wind for sailing. The sand is soft and the beach is shallow and long. We loved all of it […] and would go right back. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"well- appointed on magnificent property."
This hotel is located in a magnificent spot at the edge of the "dry forest" property right at the sea . There is a sandy beach area with lots of available chairs, hammocks, etc. Unfortunately when we were there the water was not clean enough for swimming. However for a small fee the hotel boat will take one out to Gillian's Island which is even more […] beautiful! The rooms are somewhat small but very well maintained- each having a mini-frig. and upon request a microwave. A balcony faces the sea and the well-maintained lawns and beach area. It is located better than 3 miles from the main road and so food is available only at their restaurant which in our opinion (based only on one dinner) is just O.K. and quite pricey. The staff was extremely helpful and very friendly. There are many hiking trails near-by if one is so inclined! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"It could be Better, for the price!"
Everything was acceptable. Since I have been in Copa Marina various years ago, it seems that is a little bit unattended. Some of the employees were not clear in comunication and in Las Palmas Cafe, one of the attendants was with a dirty apron and was not paying attention at all.Genuine Expedia guest review
Very pleasant resort, staff courteous and very helpful. Facilities were very good, the beach was clean but the sea was disappointing, algae and other vegetation makes swimming unpleasant. Restaurant was good, particularly the menu from the Alexandria Restaurant which, unfortunately, is not available on weekdays during the winter season.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Overpriced ocean view not worth it"
Disappointed with so many things. Had stayed at this resort 7 years ago and was much better then. The room had a fridge which was nice but the toilet wasn't working right/ it smelled like urine. Very damp as there was no fan in the bathroom. Or in the sleeping area. The AC was noisy. The armoire by the bathroom smelled of mold. The restaurants were […] nice but very little in the way of true Puertorrican foods. The bouganvilla vines with large thorns by the walking paths are the most idiotic thing - we bumped into them and got scratched up. The beach was messed up with silt. The African Grey parrot by the lobby was a very sad thing to see. Improper diet, under a fan, no sun, no toys. This is a living animal!!! Not a decoration. The worse was the New Years party for which they wanted $75 per person with no other options at the hotel. We ended up eating fast food that night. Checking in felt like I was an inconvenience to the lady. Maybe they cut down on staff- not good. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful and relaxing!"
I have nothing to say about the resort nor the staff. Right from the beginning everyone was helpful. My husband and I went to Puerto Rico for the first time and can say by the time we left we were very relaxed. The food that we ate at the resort was excellent and the New Year's celebration was fun. Just like anything everything is as good as you allow […] it. It is not really a resort for kids but for adults to relax and spend time together it is an excellent choice. nice territory - that's all from pros; cons: - terrible water part of the beach - dirty with algae, no way to swim - had to go to a beach neaby; - cold dirty water with no tropical fish in january; - Gilinham island is a joke with small beach with extremely cold water and many many rude macho locals; - slow personnel in cafe - especially when locals […] celebrate wedding; - no local food in cafe - fast food and tex-mex mostly; Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"its a beautiful place!"
The place is very beautiful, has many landscapes, can reach another little island with a beautiful beach, the staff are very friendly. The only occasion for my disgust was the room had dirty bathroom and it was disgusting, I said it in reception and we only mapped, never cleaned bath. But the rest was a nice place!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Best beach resort in Puerto Rico!"
I have stayed at Copamarina Beach Resort three times and have some of the best memories. I love the calm serene beach, large rooms, beautiful garden and the friendly staff that are always available to help. The Cafe at the resort that is reasonably priced serves delicious food while the restaurant (Alexandra) is a little over-rated. As with any tropical […] destination, it was a good idea for us to take bug/mosquito repellant. During the last recent visit, the beach had some seasonal seaweed deposit. "Great resort, beautiful grounds, but pricey."
Coming from Michigan, spending the holidays in Puerto Rico provided some relief from the harshness of Winter. Copa Marina in Guanica offered all the amenities and conditions for just such a reprieve. The grounds were extremely well-maintained, with palm trees dotting the gardens, swimming pools (four) providing welcome cooling opportunities, and the […] ocean offering an idyllic alternative to taking a dip in the pool. Staff, especially ground-keepers, worked to keep the domain in perfect order, raking leaves, cleaning the pools, arranging garden furniture. Check-in was easy and are room was ready upon arrival. Guanica offers very little in terms of cultural activities. San German and Ponce are two larger towns that are worth a visit, but both of these can be done in a single day. Guanica itself lacks any descent eating establishments, except the local "panaderia" on the main street, where our family had breakfast for the last few days (instead of the expensive--but good--breakfast at the hotel). One other trip worth making is to Parguera, for both the phosphorescent Bay excursion and dining opportunities. THE MAIN DOWN-SIDE for us was the noise after 9 PM. Many of the rooms are connected by a door to the room next to it. When you've booked only one room, however, the door becomes an inconvenience because you can hear everything from the room next-door. Traveling with a toddler, this made getting him to sleep was an adventure. This should be remedied somehow! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Very Romantic and Peaceful"
We were here for our 31st wedding anniversary and the resort truly was beautiful and accommodating. It would be nice though if the cafe would have a little more extensive menu and we felt appetizers were a little overpriced for what you got. Staff was very nice. All went smoothly. Would definitely stay here again. Wish I would have had more time!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
If you are looking for a quiet and lovely place to stay, with a very good restaurant and diligent daily room service, free wifi, towels, very clean place, this is the place. The pools are nice and clean. The sea beach is muddy, but remember, this is a Nature preserve, and Nature-made environmentally-clean mud, so we kindly ask people, who believe they […] should do dredging or build anything there, should first demonstrate their skills and revive the dredged lagoon in San Juan. True beach-seekers could enjoy Gilligan island (10-15 min by hotel boat) or Tamarindo beach (5 min by car). Hiking in Guanica dry forest is superb, the trailheads are nearby, but please stay hydrated. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A poorly managed hotel"
What we liked: a quiet hotel right on the beach. A very good chef at the restaurant. Here are our disappointments: #1: to wait for 10 minutes at the checkin desk (after 14 hour travel) until the lady will finish cheerfully talking on the phone without ever saying "I will be right with you" or "sorry". #2: Room cleaning service. On the first day they […] did not clean the room at all. After we've complained, next day the cleaning lady started knocking on our door at 7:30 in the morning. In general there is not enough cleaning staff and they are very slow: the crew finishes all rooms after 5 pm. So you have to wait until they clean the room and cannot relax or have a nap during the day. The management must consider hiring more cleaning staff so they finish by noon, and is the case in most other places. #3: Service in the cafe and the restaurant is also very slow and not particularly attentive (with one exception of a nice young lady). The terrace cafe is full of waiters who are standing idle and avoid eye contact with the customers. #4: The beach looks nice and is OK to walk on (especially the public beach next to the hotel), but not good for swimming. Very shallow, barely knee-deep up to at least 150 feet from the shore. We did not go any further. The bottom was covered with silt, and water full of vicious jelly fish. On the last day we found an excellent beach 3 miles east, but nobody told us about it. The resort did not meet our expectations. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Very nice beachside resort!"
This is a very nice beachside resort for those of you that enjoy getting out for adventure but also want a nice, clean, comfortable and relaxing base to come home to. There are many beaches, trails and parks that surround this location which is great for those of us that can't lay on a beach all day. I was disappointed with this "resort". When making my reservation, I had called to specifically request a second-floor, king-size room. I was assured I would be given one, but when I arrived, I was told the only room available was on the first floor, with two queen size beds. We were told to push the beds together. When we got to the room, we noticed […] that neither the air conditioner nor the ceiling fan was working. About an hour later, the maintenance men came - they replaced the AC but didnt fix the fan. Overall, the room needed some TLC. The resort itself had a beautiful view, although there was nothing in the surrounding area. There were two restaurants on site - one was good, but overpriced, and the other was generic and bland. We wished they had served Puerto Rican food. This is not a place I would recommend. "Great Seclusion, Short on services"
Rooms were clean and in good shape. Our room had a view of the resort and beach. There were no blinds in the room, and the room is pretty open to the outside (enough air can creep around the room so the A/C will work overtime). Hotel is easy to get to and a trip to Ponce is a must, at least for a meal. "Great spot to get away in southern part of island"
Overall great stay. Good value for the price. Don't be expecting 4 star. They got some things to work on. Food, not that great. Service at restaurants, unorganized. Most disappointing, the beach. You can only go out like 20 feet before you hit grasses. And at 20 feet water is maybe foot deep. So, you head to one of the pools which are bubbling over […] with kids. I would suggest they make one pool adults only. Actually heard a kid say he had to go to the bathroom and he was headed to the pool to do so. Mom thankfully stopped him and made him use the restroom. So weird mix of being away from it all, and being surrounded by everyone's family. Buy needed snacks, water and alcohol on way in. Nothing near by the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Grassy water and watery drinks at ridiculous lrice"
The place is clean the views are pleasant. Aside from that the beach is not conducive to swimming because the water is overgrown with grass and is barely over two feet deep at any point. This resort is just wonderful. It is secluded from tourist areas, but if you want a lovely, relaxing getaway this is the place! "Fantastic resort for the family"
I've never written an online review before but I had such a wonderful experience at Copa Marina I thought I would make an exception. We stayed 5 nights at this awesome place. The grounds are postcard beautiful. We had planned to do a couple day trips but we ended up spending most of our time at Copa Marina. We took the ferry trip to Gilligan Island. […] The snorkeling there was underwhelming and it was crowded. We went on a Sunday and perhaps a weekday would have been less crowded. That was the least impressive part of our trip. We had a great time renting a double kayak and going out (we didn't go very far as I took out one kid then the other bit it was so fun we did it two days). We also did a snorkeling trip with the dice shop guys out to the reef. This was pricey but it was great snorkeling and worth the splurge. We ate at the breakfast buffet every morning where my son ate his weight in bacon and they had an excellent omelette station. Also the cinnamon bananas were a treat. The pools and jacuzzi were great and right on the beach. The water is shallow for a ways out so there was plenty of room for the kids to play without constant vigilance. It turns out we needed more of a hang out and relax vacation than a lot of sightseeing and that's what we did. I would go back in a heartbeat. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice hotel, on a beach, but not a swimming beach"
The hotel is about 2 hours from the airport. We didn't rent a car, but chose instead to take a taxi (arranged by the hotel) from the airport to the hotel. We enjoyed not having to drive, and possibly getting lost. The taxi driver was very pleasant and actually gave us a bit of a tour along the way telling us about the various towns and sights we passed. […] Being that the hotel is remote and a distant away from any restaurants (other than the one in the hotel) or supermarkets, you will need to pick up some food along the way. The hotel does provide a refrigerator. Although there are 2 restaurants in the hotel, one of these was only open on the weekend. The other, although the food was not bad, had a pretty limited menu. As far as the beach, it is cleaned daily but is not a "swimming" beach as the water is filled with seaweed. It is pretty to just seat and relax, but for swimming purposes you would have to walk over to the public beach next door. You can just walk along the beach over to that public beach where there are life-guards on duty. This is a quite hotel, good for relaxation, which is the reason we chose it. There is no night life and no planned activities, other than Zumba on Saturday. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great resort for families, those looking for quiet"
The hotel was wonderful. My girlfriend and I went in May, somewhat off-peak, and had a great week there. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the hotel was in excellent condition, and there were great things to do nearby. I should note that it is a somewhat quieter and family-friendly place, so it may not have quite the party atmosphere of […] resorts closer to San Juan. Also, the food choices can get a little limiting after several days (on weekdays there's only one cafe option, although the fresh caught fish is always excellent). "Great hotel with Wonderful Service!"
We stayed at the Copamarina for 3 nights in May 2013. We arrived a couple hours prior to check-in and the front desk was able to accommodate us w/ just a small wait. We used our patio door more than the front door (wish we had a key to the door like we did our main door, but we just went around with our door unlocked). The room was large and included […] a couch with a hideabed. The patio had 2 chairs and a lounge chairs and was just steps from the pool, hot tub, & beach. We loved the free cabanas along w/ renting a kayak (the guy was accommodating w/ letting my us rent a kayak the night before, gave us the life jackets and paddles, & left a kayak unlocked for us so we could go for an early morning kayak!) We ate at Las Palmas 4 times. We ate dinner our first night there around 9 pm. Service wasn't good (we felt ignored) when we went during dinner & for dessert the next night & our junior server was the one who finally kept taking care of us and she ended up being fabulous (same jr. server for dessert the next night & again she was great!) We ate there for a late lunch the next day. Service was great as it was for breakfast the day after. Try the breakfast buffet-it’s good w/ a great variety. Alexandras, the fancier restaurant was supposed to only open Fri-Sun, but it was open Sunday - Tuesday while we were there.
