Treasure Island Resort - Seven Mile Beach

equiv of a 2.5 star miami hotel....but twice the price cos its Grand Cayman. Nothing you can do about that....staff were nice, room very clean...and the beginning of the 7 mile beach. Perfectly acceptable. Hotel is in process of being sold, and some rooms are rented for $ a month to bartenders in the area.

My husband and I just returned from our 7th trip to Grand Cayman. We had stayed a Treasure Island 20 yrs. ago on our first trip. In spite of ready some negative reviews we booked it and we sere so hppy with that decision. While the hotel is older it has an "old Vegas " feel which I found charming. The open air vestibule is my favorite. The three pools […] are great, not crowded, waterfalls and a swim up bar. Billy Bones had the best food we had on the trip, the red snapper was fantastic. The beach is quiet, very uncrowded, private with protected swimming area and immediate acsess to great snorkeling. Granted the rooms are older and smaller, but they were clean, cleaned daily, staff was friendly and the front desk helped out immediatley with any request. If you want to spend you time surrounded by upscale furnishings and granite, do not stay there. If you are going to Grand Cayman to spend time outside and see the ocean from your own balcony give it a try. Read more

The hotel is just at the bottom edge of the 7-mile beach but in walking distance to the nicer parts of the beach and just on the top end of Georgetown where you can shop and enjoy great cuisine.

Front desk: When we arrived, it was earlier than the 3 pm check-in, and in the past, hotels have accomodated that, but the woman just basically told us to find something to do for 4 hours and not come back until 3. That's awesome when you're arriving from the NE in your winter gear and […] walking around in 90 degree weather. I could understand it were packed, but (fortunately for us in the end) it was dead. Also, they were useless when asked questions such as "do you know where I can get a first aid kit?" (we discovered a pharmacy 40 steps away..they told us they had "no idea") Housekeeping: Rudest staff ever. They knocked on the door before 10 am and when we asked if they could come back since we were just getting ready, they (different ladies, separate occassions) paused, huffed, rolled their eyes and then demanded "when?". In one case, the woman never returned at all. The room: Worst shower ever. No hot water or water pressure. The drain stop kept getting stuck, and maintenance would fix it, then housekeeping would put it back, and so began they cycle of calling. "Maintenance" came and simply removed the drain stopper and left it on our sink. Wow. On the plus, you did have access to a nice private beach and since that's the appeal, that was clutch. I chose to go to Grand Cayman primarily for Diving. I found that Divers Down was located right there at my hotel and they picked me up for every dive on time. Initially, I reviewed everyone elses review of this hotel and I did not really experience any issues to speak of. I loved the outdoor main lobby. Was very relaxing with a cabana bar and wifi. […] The walk to the beach is about 2 minutes through the nice condos that are directly on the beach at Sunset Cove. Here are the good things about this hotel. They are working to keep everything nice. New paint, light maintenance, everything was clean, they swept the driveway every morning. Beds were comfortable and our ocean view was a view over the palm trees and yes you could see the ocean. Not an ocean front mind you, but still a nice view. The cost was great compared to other hotels in the area. We did laundry there in their laundrymat which mostly had out of order machines, but we found an available one with no problem. Locals also live in this hotel and I had no issues with them nor they I. It was a good morning or Good afternoon to everyone I encountered. Bad things: We were scheduled for checkin and was asked to wait for our room. We took this time to just rest and relax after a long flight in their lobby. No worries or problems from this couple on that minor issue. They have a little grocery store in the hotel lobby or you can just go to the nearby grocery store and stock up on things. The hotel location is within walking distance of a good variety of restaurants, shopping and nightlife entertainment. We were very, very disappointed in this place. The majority of the hotel houses local people, some of which made us feel a little unsafe. A security guard was settling a domestic dispute, trying to take an angry, arguing woman by the arm as we checked in. It was very dirty and a small decorative pool was being "maintained" (though not currently), resulting […] in an algae filled pit with tools around while we were there. Inside the room, I found several long black hairs on the ground and two shorter dark hairs in the bed. Any surface touched often, like doorknobs, lightswitches, etc, looked filthy! The day bed was REALLY bad looking, with crumbs or something on it and it was very misshapen. I honestly got the feeling the room had been flooded by a hurricane and not fully cleaned afterward. The bed was comfortable. The bar was nice, as was the bartender, but front desk staff didn't make us feel like our questions or requests were welcome. She seemed quite annoyed by us. Maybe the worst part was at about 9 am,while we were in bed and unclothed, getting a knock on the door, with no identifying comment like "Housekeeping." We said "Don't come in!" not knowing who it was or anything, and the person proceeded to use his key to come in. I ran and slammed my body against the door, shutting it abruptly in his face. We yelled "Don't come in" twice, and he still was coming in. The person never identified himself, so we still don't know what that was all about. Read more

I read the reviews before I booked the hotel. The room had a kitchenette, had an ocean view a short walk from the beach, and a comfortable bed which is what we wanted. My biggest complaint was that the reviews were correct about the lack of hot water and water pressure in the shower, it was unbelievable so we complained and they changed the shower head […] but it did not solve the problem. The house keeping staff washed my dishes which I did not expect, so I have to say they went beyond their duty to keep us happy. If you want an inexpensive room for the week to sleep after a long day of activities and you dont mind a warm quick shower than you will get your moneys worth here. If you are willing to get past some of the "rough edges" of Treasure Island, it is a good value and, in its own way, a hidden gem. I will say up front that I was not enchanted with first appearance of the open air lobby or the over-lived-in look from the outside of several rooms. BUT, the ocean view rooms have a balcony and you can sit and enjoy the […] mornings and the evenings with a very relaxing view past the decently maintained pools and courtyards to the ocean in the distance. Don't count on their beachfront - it is NOT good - VERY rocky and not comparable to brochures. But, it is a 4 or 5 minute drive to several nice sandy, blue public beaches a couple miles to the north. So, you get decent lodging, decent courtyard, decent poolside bar for evening drinks, and you can even have a nice family barbecue on their pits between the pools and the oceanfront. Unlike their website states - the internet in the rooms is WIRED, not WiFi. But, it works (albeit I had to power reset the router on a couple occasions). Overall, you get a place to stay that is walking distance to Georgetown, the grocery, many shops and restaurants and the couple grand you save on the rooms for putting up with the quirks can be spent on the other facets of your trip. It was a good place to stay if you are on a budget, enjoy the pool and a not so nice beach. If you stay here and rent a car to go else where on the island, it's fine. Now a days, this hotel is rented out to people staying on the island for a few months at a time. Because of that, the "resort" aspect is almost non-existent. There was no table to eat at on the balcony.Tv and Wi fi was not ever functioning correctly, on 2 of the 4 Days not at all. The "resort" amenities were totally lacking, no on site breakfast, no pool towel service, etc.Definitely not a resort! On one of the days the elevator broke and was not repaied till the following day. The rooms, not so much, but they are equipped with micro wave, fridge, stove, coffee pot, patio with chairs. I found the secret to having the room tidied: don't be there. I put soap on the tracks of the slider door that maintenance never came to fix, but they did find us hangers.It's a beautiful view from the ocean front patio. The only updating that we noticed was the door to the room had a proximity sensor lock so you just had to wave the key by the lock to unlock it.
