Travelodge Hotel Downtown - Chicago

Perfect location-walking distance to lots of sights, to trains, cabs, etc. The room was small, cramped, and had exposed pipes in multiple spots. I dropped an item near one of the beds, bent down to pick it up, and saw trash under the bed. It had not been cleaned under there in a LONG time. The bedding was very course and itchy. Also, my room was close to the mono-rail (?) and I had a hard time falling asleep because of both of those things. The hotel is conveniently close and within walking distance of many attractions. However, in general, the hotel (room, hallways, staff) does have an eery feeling.

The hotel did not have adjoining rooms i was very specific about needing the rooms connecting they dont offer that at that hotel i would not have stayed there if i knew that and the rooms have heaters that dont shut off and the rooms were too hot

The room was tiny and uncomfortable, above an alley where trash pick up started@ 4:30 A.M. and trucks were backing into the alley from then on. I would never stay here again. I think I was given the worst room in the hotel because I booked on Hotels.com

Hotel is 1 1/2 blocks from the Hilton Hotel-downtown. It is less than a block to Michigan Avenue. Really enjoyed staying here. Friendly and helpful staff. Room clean and very comfortable. The location of this hotel was excellent but the room was not the best. The shower was broken, the room looked old, the power outlets were very scarce. We went there for St Paddy's and we didn't spend much time in the room, but when we were there, we noticed those issues.

Overall I was pleased with the room. Price and location were my selection points. Don't expect the Hilton for this price. The only complaint I have was the daily 5am "wake-up call" from the trash truck that unloaded trash dumpsters for 30 minutes right outside my window (RM 535).

The staff were as helpful and friendly as possible. Travelodge has done its best to recondition an old building -- it was painted over, carpeted over, with updated amenities (e.g. nice flat screen TV) but it showed. Pipes, a covered over steam radiator, window airconditioner, woodwork showing many layers of paint... Bed was very firm. Linens were fresh, […] towels soft. Probably won't stay here again. The price is right, the location's great, room was reasonably clean, and the staff was friendly enough. But the hotel needs a major renovation. Thin door to the hallway, and single-pane glass windows overlooking the elevated rail, make for a very noisy experience.

Travelodge Hotel Downtown When making my reservations through Experia, I made sure to mention that due to a late flight, I would be arriving at 1:00 AM, so the hotel needed to be aware of that. The Expedia clerk told me she'd phoned the hotel, gotten their assurance that my reservation would be held with no problem,and that they (the hotel) had also […] made a note on my reservation so all their staff would be aware.As extra insurance,the Expedia clerk emailed me a confirmation that contained the 'late arrival approval information' which included the name of the hotel desk personnel who'd approved it. I printed this and took it with me. When I arrived at the hotel, it turned into a nightmare.The Desk Manager told me it was not his procedure to honor late arrivals.I gave him my confirmation, including the note and approval. He continued to argue with me,stating it was Expedia's error,he couldn't honor the room, etc.This went on for almost half an hour.I was exhausted,needed to get to my room because I had a funeral to attend the next morning. The assistant desk clerk, an Irish exchange student, was wonderful, trying to assist me in any way he could, but the desk Manager kept arguing that it wasn't correct procedure and he wouldn't give me a room. Finally I suggested that this appeared to be fraudulent practices in booking procedures, and perhaps we needed to call the police to resolve it.That ended his arguing.Not sure if he was looking for a pay-off..I'll NEVER go there again! I am generally not very picky about where I stay, as long as it is convenient and provides a place to sleep. This is a cheap hotel, so that it isn't in the best of conditions or that the room isn't particularly nice is to be expected. However, it was literally impossible to sleep through the night. I was woken up every day repeatedly, starting around […] 4am, by very loud banging noises. The problem is, I suspect, that part of the hotel faces an alley where trucks are loaded (it kind of sounded like large metal containers were being thrown around). This was a marginal hotel in a decent location. Maintenance is lacking, with threadbare carpets exposing tack strips (beware walking into the bathroom barefoot!) and furniture that has seen better days. Outlets were few and far between, with full extension cords running to the lights and appliances leaving no room to charge a cell phone without unplugging […] something. The radiator in the room did not seem to have an "off" position, so the window A/C unit had to run all night to get the down to a non-tropical temperature, despite the freezing temperature outside. In most places this would be a totally unacceptable hotel. Large cities are expensive though, so sacrifices have to be made if you are on any sort of budget. Read more

This is a tired hotel. Furniture is chipped and torn. Bedding is definitely in need of a change and the decoration of the room is sub-par. I don't think Expedia should feature this hotel on their website. Out of 3 elevators, only one works. On returning to my room on the 3rd day at 4pm, the bed was not made up and the towels were where I had left them […] at 7am. 9 hours to fix a room is unacceptable. I complained and housekeeping eventually turned up but nobody apologized at check-out and no attempt was made to offer any form of compensation. This is one of the problems of paying ahead of time. Travelodge is right off of Michigan Ave. on Harrison by Grant Park, Buckingham fountain, and a few blocks from Art Museum. About half the price of surrounding hotels. Friendly staff. The hotel however is in very poor condition. The elevators are very slow and clunky, the thermastat in the room did not function, etc. But its cheap! ;-)

Hotel was fine. Nothing fancy. Very outdated. Temp in rooms was extremely warm. Housekeeping never came the first day. Second day they arrived at 4:30pm and the 3rd day at 5:15pm. Too late! I was back and using the room. All in all decent for the price.

If you're looking for state of the art, then this is not your hotel! The hotel definately needs to be updated, but for the price and location, it suited our needs. The elevated subway was quite loud at night and the beds and TV should be updated. The staff was friendly.

This is an old building and looks like it could use some refurbishing but is fine for a place to stay in downtown Chicago. The rooms are a little small but good enough. The bathroom was fairly roomy, actually. There weren't many night owls staying there when we were there as it was quiet at night. Everything was horrible at this hotel. The premises was dirty and horribly kept. The bellman was unhelpful, the elevators took nearly 20 minutes on a very slow afternoon. The carpet was terribly dirty as were the blankets and sheets. There was no thermostat in the room. It was simply a horrific experience.
