"Just a beauty!"
Just a beautiful hotel in every way!! Located right on the beach, who could ask for more. The hotel is a timeless masterpiece that has been lovingly cared for and takes your breath away day or nite! Would go back there in a heartbeat! :) Only disappointment was that there was a hotel mandatory charge of USD$30 per nite stayed which wasn't apparent […] when we first booked the room online. "Room with a View"
We were upgraded upon check-in, however, we (two girlfriends) requested two beds, not one. We took the upgrade hoping to exchange rooms the next day. A room with two beds was not available until the following day. Since we were unpacked and getting used to our lovely room we opted to stay. We had a corner room in the tower and the views were fantastic. […] We never really got used to sharing the King size bed and both of us worried we would disturb the other. Other than that...everything was FABULOUS!!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Great resort with super friendly staff. Food and drinks were always very good. I highly recommend dining at the steak house. Amazing steaks!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Historic and Classic Beauty"
This is an amazing hotel that stays true to its roots as the first hotel in the islands. The service is wonderful and accomodating and the rooms are extremely comfortable and clean. If you need something, the service is prompt and the people go out of their way to make your stay amazing.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Awesome Spot on The Beach"
Plantation style hotel with a prime spot on Waikiki. Great place to relax, hit the beach, have cocktails, and is central to Waikiki. Very classy spot.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Quite disappointed in room cleanliness"
We were excited to stay at such an historic hotel and were therefore willing to pay more for this experience. However, we have stayed in $49.00/night hotels that were much cleaner than this. There was a very musty smell in our wing, which is probably hard to get rid of , given the climate and the wooden components of this hotel. But what was inexcusable […] was the condition of the bathroom (things from someone's nose wiped on the shower wall) and dirty handprints on doors, walls, etc. There was also quite a bit of hair on the floor and the toilet. The extra pillow in the closet had something very filthy on the pillowcase, so we turned it inside out to use it for our daughter. Again, the hotel was beautiful and we did love the museum and the other historic features, but I was uncomfortbale in our room the entire time, based upon what I found when we first walked in. I would recommend visiting this hotel and walking through to see the historic features, but i would NOT recommend staying here. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"My Days in Paradise"
This was my third stay at the Moana Surfrider. Twice for pleasure, once for business - it worked for both. I just love this historic hotel. This time, I stayed in one of the smaller rooms. Great use of space and everything I needed right at my fingertips. Plus, very charming. I will definately be back.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Moana Surfrider review-oceanfront room view."
The hotel had prime facilities; it was great to be right on the beach. The beach bar was excellent and the staff friendly. I thought drinks were a bit pricey but kind of expected for Waikiki.Genuine Expedia guest review
Had a fantastic timed at the Moana. Staff were very helpful and rooms amazing. I usually book Westins because of their incredible beds, and this one did not disappoint. Could not get a better location either - close to everything. Highly recommend this hotel. One tip: don't stay in the Bunyan city rooms. They are ridiculously noisy (windows are old […] and do not seal properly) and they are tiny. I read reviews saying the same thing and did not pay any attention to the "noise warnings" so booked the Bunyan room anyway. Big mistake! I asked to be upgraded straight away (which the staff were fantastic in accommodating). Loved our stay at the Moana Surfrider :) Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Perfect Location to See Waikiki"
Not only did we find the hotel first rate but its' location made it easy to get around without having to drive. Most everything we wanted to see or visit was within walking distance. We had a very enjoyable stay and will be sure to recommend it to our friends and family.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel rates as one of the best in Waikiki, quaint, classy and the most central location of any hotel on the beach. We had a Banyan room with a beach view and birds chirping. Total relaxing. I highly recommend this hotel to travelers.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We simply love staying at this hotel It was positioned perfectly in the heart of Waikiki And it was a tremendous comfort level With amazing character!Genuine Expedia guest review
I have stayed at many hotel in Waikiki as I travel there for business regularlly. I have to say the Westin Moana Surfrider is by far one of the nicest and I highly recommend it! The building is absolutely beautiful as is the enormous Banyon tree in the courtyard. One of the best thing is the fabulous Honolulu Coffee Co is onsight for the best coffee, […] lattes and waffles, acai bowls ever! The hotels service was excellent, we had a beautiful upgraded room in the tower that appeared to be newly remodeled with a high end Toto bidet and ocenn view upgrade, and a patio at no extra charge! I only wish I was there 10 days and I could have stayed longer and taken some real time off! I will definately try to always stay here! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Best Experience, loved the hotel! Great food and entertainment. I would stay there again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"good hotel with some serious drawbacks"
This hotel is all about location, location, location. Rooms are nice, but very small. The rooms in the historical part of the building (not the new towers) are like Manhattan sized rooms. Given the size, we were a bit annoyed that the room cleaning was minimal and that turn down service was only done on demand. It's a tight squeeze on the rest of the […] property, too. Don't expect an expansive pool with a swim-up bar or anything like that. Given the price, you'd be better off staying at the Sheraton two hotels down instead. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect weekend getaway"
I love the location of this hotel! Plenty of food and shopping options just steps away, and the ocean here is fantastic. The hotel has a small feel which I always prefer to the mega resorts Hawaii is so known for. Yes, the pool is small, yes the rooms aren't the biggest and yes the restaurant is expensive, but when you walk up the staff remembers your […] name, and you feel as if you are walking up the front steps of your old rich uncle's house. "Awesome hotel with tiny rooms"
We loved staying here mainly because the location is perfect right on the water, the rocking chairs out front were so relaxing, and the beds were super comfy. The downsides were the tiny little rooms. There is no room for anything. The street side rooms were crazy loud so we talked them into moving us to the courtyard. We would've had a horrible stay […] otherwise due to the loud street performers. We loved the resort nature of this hotel. Can't beat the location. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wonderful classic gem in Waikiki"
We had a wonderfully pleasant stay at this classical hotel. We had heard it was one of the first hotels build at the turn of the 20th century, and by the looks of the hotel, it is classically contemporary. The staff was second to none in providing top notch service at every level. The only negative I could say is at night, we could hear street performers […] on the street level from our room. They should just try to put a stop to that because it could get loud a times, but that is more the neighboring area..... Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Location, nice open bar."
Nice Hotel, nice room. We stayed in the banyan section. The room itself was small, so if you're paying full price it might not be worth it. Getting your car from vallet can take up to 30 min. But its a nice hotel in a great location so if you can get a good deal go for it.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice , but I won't go back"
The common rooms are beautiful and once you get away from the street, it's a relaxing oasis. Nice room. Decent ocean view even though we only paid the city view rate. But ... It's sold as an icon of historic Waikiki and delivers a pretty corporate experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Say No to staying in the Banyan!"
First and foremost our rating's of this hotel are from when we arrived not when we left. We are a young couple and as we arrived at the hotel it was absolutely beautiful from the outside. We walked to our room and it was smaller than a 11 by 11 ft. room. It was TINY! All of the rooms above and below us heard the noise of the loading dock and the busy […] street all day and all night. We had leftover beverages in our fridge, our shower leaked all over the floor as well as leaked from the ceiling, the toilet was placed in the bathroom in a way where you had to sit on the toilet sideways. The windows are old single pane and do not seal therefore it is very noisy. The tv is mounted solidly to the adjacent wall from the bed, making it impossible to watch from anywhere. The service wasnt very good at all, I felt as though we were treated very poorly by multiple employees. After we complained and asked to be moved they kept telling us to come back, but we heard no new information and never heard back. After 4 hours and much frustration we finally called and they said they had no idea what we were talking about since their were new people working the front desk. After about 5 hours we finally got a new room and a free upgrade to an ocean room. From here on out our room was AMAZING and the hotel was exactly what all the other reviews have said.. Perfect. Make sure you get a good room to begin with so you dont have to deal with everything we did when we arrived. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"LOCATION, QUALITY, AND FUN"
This is our families 4th time staying here. Location is perfect, beach and activities are right in front, great food on property and great coffee out front. Feels like old Hawaii. Fun to sit on rocking chairs on porch and watch and the Brides and Grooms, a very popular place to get married. "Service Needs Improving"
Very disappointed with the level of service. The bed covers and throw pillows had obvious stains on them. After asking that they be replaced, housekeeping left their walkie talkie in the room and changed out the old throw pillows for new ones with different stains. Towels were not replaced and one day an old pillow case was found on the desk. The hotel […] is in a great location and the original building is wonderful but wont stay here again. For the price I would expect a much higher level of service. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Beautiful Hotel, staff was very friendly and helpful. We requested information/help on getting Easter baskets for our girls as we arrived Easter morning. The concierge was able to send us information on flower shops and gift baskets. We were able to order and have the baskets delivered. The baskets were in our room when we got there and our girls were […] so excited the Easter bunny found them in Hawaii. When we originally booked our trip there was a special that with each paying adult children (i believe) 12 and under were able to eat free. This was one of the reasons why we choose the Moana Surfrider. This was not the case when we checked in, the policy changed. I under stand that policys do change but if you made the reservation prior to change then it should be honored. So needleed to say we only ate one meal at the Moana. So be sure to check on any specials that were offered when booking and your arrival, they might have changed. But all in all we give it a 5! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice and classy hotel"
Beautiful hotel. Amazing pianist (march, Johnny valentine) playing in the lobby. Very nice and helpful staff. So many tourist so the hotel definitely was overused a bit -- tho the hotel does make an effort maintaining some of the fixtures, eg new paint etc. Standard room is tiny but decent for a short stay. "sleep in waikiki... spend your day elsewhere"
Moana Surfrider was a great hotel to stay in.... hotel.com was able to get us a good deal... waikiki is great except for the actually beach itself. if you stay in waikiki, do yourself a favor and GET OUT during the day... rent a car, go to the east side, or north shore... there is A LOT to do on Oahu... go explore and enjoy... nice hotel , staff is friendly and very helpful. Nice location, nice room.Genuine Expedia guest review
My husband and I stayed in the older section of the hotel. While the hotel was gorgeous, the room left a lot to be desired. The room was large enough to fit a king-size bed and that was about it. The moment we stepped out of the shuttle we were greeted by smiling and friendly people. The Moana Surfrider has great curb appeal too. "A Perfect Island Vacation"
I love the Moana Surfrider! My daughter and I go every year for a special little mother/daughter vacation. We always stay at the Moana. We have stayed in all parts, and I prefer the older portion. I love the Banyan oceanfront rooms. From the moment we arrive with the lovely fresh flower lei greeting, to the kind front desk check-in...we are smiling […] and anxious to get out on the lovely beach in front of the hotel. The employees are always there with a smile and a friendly chat, I absolutely love the vibe! Things are a bit expensive, but I still can't imagine staying anywhere else. My daughter surfs out front and I sit under an umbrella with a glass of champagne in hand, what a treat....As we left, with a flight at 10:00 p.m., the front desk gave us access to a hospitality room to take a shower and get ready to head home. "Not as how i thought it would be"
Thee was mold in the bathroom, no fan in the bathroom. The tiny TV was so far fom the bed. The maid service was a different time everyday, on one day 2pm, the next 12noon, the next 4pm. The building was extremely old, there was so much street noise unable to block out from doors/windows because of gaps in frame.Genuine Expedia guest review
The best 2 weeks of my life!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is not our first stay at the Moana Surfrider, so we know the place well. If you are looking for a hotel with historical significance, perfect location, and a reasonable rate (for oceanfront Waikiki). This is the ticket. Rooms are very modern and very comfortable, staff very nice and helpful. We had stayed at the adjoining Royal Hawaiian before, […] but that facility changed a lot of things (no more breakfast Buffett, reconfigured lobby, raised prices $200 per night), so Moana Surfrider a better option now. "On the Beach!"
Pros: The Moana Surfrider is ideally located in Waikiki. We were more than pleased with our 'partial ocean view' room and enjoyed mornings and evenings on the lanai. The bed was extremely comfortable. All of the staff from management to housekeeping was gracious and made us feel welcome. Loved the history of the Moana. Cons: Being a Westin hotel we […] expected ceramic coffee cups, not cardboard; glass glasses in the bathroom, not plastic; double-ply toilet paper. The bathroom was small and a storage shelf below the sink area would have helped tremendously. The bathtub was chipped and noticeably repaired. The drawers of the dresser kept sliding open. The closet was very small but we were there for only five days so it was adequate. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Not as relaxing as I had hoped"
The hotel is beautiful!!!! I love the open lobby and the back courtyard and beach area is amazing. I can't say enough good things about the employees and their service too! However, my friend and I were traveling together and for the first two nights we were put in a historic room with a kind size bed. It was the smallest hotel room I have ever seen! […] Opening the front door touched the edge of the bed, and that's the extent of space surrounding the bed. I think if you want to keep the room historic size you need to keep smaller furniture since it was hard to walk around. Then they moved us to a double bed room after two nights, but it was right over the top of the valet facing the noisy street. That street is so noisy at night with crowds and street performers, and then starting around 4:30 am we could hear valet talking and wheeling luggage racks. It didn't seem like the windows were sound proof at all. We kept thinking "are the windows open?" because it was so loud. I think its crazy you can stay in Manhattan and not hear a sound but here they obviously haven't sound proofed the front windows. Needless to say I didn't get very much restful sleep on my supposed to be relaxing vacation :( Everything else was great except for the comfort of the room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
