"A Week in Paradise..."
My girlfriend and I researched the hotel in the Waikiki area and decided on the Moana Surfrider...what a great choice! We stayed in the Tower on the 17th floor...there is nothing like waking up and going to bed with a balcony with a view of Diamond Head and the ocean...a must to complete your stay...the room was clean and bed was comfy...quick access […] to the beach or to restaurants or shops nearby...all of the staff were friendly and helpful...definitely an upscale and top notch place to stay...we will definitely return next year! "Great Historical Hotel"
Built in 1901 the original part of this Hotel is beautiful, the feeling of walking back in time during your stay is unmistakable, and remarkable! It takes little imagination to conquer the innumerable galas, and grand events that have taken place in the grand court yard at the Moana. While the rooms of the original part of the hotel still have single […] pane windows which leads to a bit of over night noise, the charm out weighs any inconvenience. The bed was a little on the firm side, but comfortable. We would stay again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This a wonderful hotel! The beach is beautiful,, the staff helpful and the grounds amazingGenuine Expedia guest review
the room is small and the bathroom too. maybe the tower wing is better? we are in the original bldg. the food in the restaurants and by the beach are overpriced. the ocean bottom beachfront is too rocky unlike in royal Hawaiian .Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Stay ruined by unfortunate experience."
The hotel was beautiful and the room were clean....it is a shame that our stay was ruined because of others staying next door. The last night of our stay we were awakened by bodies being slammed against the wall and a train of course words. We called the front desk by the time that security arrived the fight was over. We were so shaken and afraid that […] we were unable to go back to sleep. I expected the hotel was upscale enough to not have this type of experience. I will decks reconsider booking with Weston in the future. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The Surfrider is a great hotel in a fabulous location. The bars, coffee shop and beach were where I spent most of my hotel time. Staff was friendly too!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location in the heart of Waikiki"
I had booked the room on Expedia, but had to upgrade to a larger room when my sister decided to join us. The hotel staff was very helpful and gave us a larger room with an ocean view. It cost more, but was well worth it. This hotel is a gem, and the staff was extremely helpful in anything we needed. I would recommend to anyone that wants to experience […] royal treatment. "Great but long check in and check out lines"
We have stayed here before and will again as it is one of our favorite places to stay in Waikiki. The only disappointment was too few at the desks working check in and check outs. It took around 20 minutes standing in line for each.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"awful service and awful service"
rooms in the banyan wing effectively have no window since they are single pane and all noise from the street, including cars just passing by sound like they are right in your room. requesting a move, the front desk tried to upsell us. when we refused, moved into new wing, which was recently renovated although small. was awoken at 4:45 AM from construction […] in the room next door. hotel should never have put someone in this type of room. took several hours for them to move us, although it was back to banyan wing, but slightly away from street so noise was more tolerable. this place is not worth it for all the noise. maybe when all construction is done. hotel staff did not seem to care at all. not good westin service. "Nice hotel, but way too crowded."
The hotel is too crowded...couldn't get a table for lunch at the beach or at the restaurant...had to go next door, where we had a delightful meal. Our room was very small...bathroom was cramped and we had no view (the side of the next hotel.) It was expensive for what we got. The parking (valet) staff was wonderful, even with the cramped conditions. […] 20+ minute wait for your car. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beach hotel with great ocean views options."
Wonderful breakfast buffet! Nice courtyard sitting areas.Genuine Expedia guest review
That courtyard with the banyan tree is just a peace and coolness haven in the middle of busy and touristy Waikiki. The afternoon tea was a magic moment. The veranda beats any location, being at the corner of the beach and the courtyard. Just charming. The staff is super friendly and efficient. Room was small but had everything we needed (we were in […] the old wing). It was very hard to get sun chairs and the rent fees for the ones on the beach is just ridiculous, and it's the same in pretty much all the hotels. We were charged for valet parking fees that we never used but we gladly saw it and the guy just fixed it up right away. Overall, I had a very relaxing (though pricey) vacation. If you simply must have comfort and a degree of style, this hotel will suit you nicely. It presents an old-style Hawaiian plantation architecture, complete with a front porch loaded with wooden rocking chairs, a graceful circular valet drive, and an enormous veranda at the back, where one can take one's meals. The front and back doors remain open, so […] as soon as one enters one glimpses the sea and sun, and the ubiquitous, ancient banyan tree that serves to offer shade and gloaming atmosphere for the bar just off the pool. Dark hardwood floors, detailed joinery in the main hall, soft carpets and plush chairs and sofas help make the place feel homey despite the all but incessant sea of pedestrians -- those departing and arriving, those just looking, and those Japanese couples indulging the current fashion of taking wedding photographs in Hawaii (they've typically already married, sometimes months earlier, back home - this way is cheaper and probably more enjoyable). The staff seems helpful, if generally overworked. The food tastes good but not worth one's focus; eat there for convenience, if that matters, rather than the epicurean experience. Sitting right on the beach proved very enjoyable, and one finds the pool quite lovely as well. WiFi gets spotty when a switch goes down, so take care if you hoped to get work done from your room. You might need to relocate. Use the self-parking from day 1. Valet service proved costly, and takes 20 minutes to get cars (off-site). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We enjoyed a wonderful stay at Moana Surfrider Hotel for my husband's 50th birthday. We stayed in the Banyan wing and it was a lovely room. We had not reserved a room with a balcony but the window was huge and gave us plenty of light and view. We loved that it was in the older part of the hotel. There were plenty of activities at the hotel. I loved […] the lei making class and the yoga classes. These were included in the daily hotel fee as was the self parking so take advantage of them. All public areas were clean and well maintained. The courtyard with the Banyan tree was amazing as was the Beach Bar and live entertainment. This hotel is a Westin resort and it shows in the quality and friendliness of their staff. When we visit Waikiki Beach again, we'll definitely stay here. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"wonderful experience in Waikiki for my Son's Weddi"
I had always wanted to stay in Moana Surfrider for the historical experience. We had been in Honolulu/Waikiki area several times and always had glimpse of the hotel. The architecture was rare since it was the first hotel in Waikiki. The staff were accommodating and always willing to assists. The room we stayed in Banyan wing was clean nice and everyday […] fresh linen, the size was just right for couple. The toiletries were of good taste but it seems that they are not willing to give extra after sun gel, the staff stated the supplies were limited for our 5 days stay they only gave us 1 little container. The towels were always replenished. The Garden Wedding was marvelous, reception at the Ballroom Tower was quite an experience. the food that was served starting from the appetizers at the garden thru the dinner was out of this world. "Okay but noisy"
It was okay overall; however, the room was directly on the street and proved to be quite noisy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I liked the boutique feeling that the hotel offered. It was not too big and was not overcrowded. The staff was very accomodating at the restaurant and around the pool. We particulary liked the service from Jilly. She was a sweetheart and helped me when I felt sea sick. Great stay and I will come back for pleasure next time soon.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, small room."
We got a room in the older section. I liked that it was updated and modern, however, it was so small. We looked into switching to the tower, but found that the tower room they showed us was actually not as updated as the room we currently had. Overall, I wish the room had been bigger, but still enjoyed the stay (we felt like we were staying in a bedroom […] at someone's house). The location was awesome, and we really liked the nightly live music by the beach. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Fabulous as she always was; She now takes on a more modern spin and that releases some of the old world charm ( no more lei and guava juice welcome on arrival; no sandalwood fans souvenir from the high tea ) . Overall still a lovely place to come and relax.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Long time repeat customer at the Moana"
Very disappointed when I booked a Banyan Ocean View room and they told me I was upgraded two levels to the tower. While I was in a larger room, my view was of the hotel next door. I explained when I checked in that I did not feel this was an upgrade as I've been staying at the Moana for over 15 years and I know what wings/rooms I like best. Not only […] was the view a let down, it felt uncomfortable to have the blinds open since the proximity to the next hotel was so close. I felt I was not listened to upon check in and treated like a 2nd rate customer when I am SPG Gold member and long time return guest of the Moana. Nothing was offered to remedy my disappointment. "new look on old hotel"
Our recent visit was a girl get away and we had a nice visit with your hotel, however the glasses in the room were dirty and we had to notify the maid to get clean ones. They kept giving us glass bottled water and had to ask for plastic that we could use at the pool and beach. "Not Worth the Price"
Service upon arrival was nonexistent. Was downgraded to a lower category room at checkin. The first room we were given was tiny and had paper thin walls. A bus/trolley stop was right outside and you could hear every bus that stopped as well as the conversations of people walking down the street. After a few hours, returned to the front desk and got […] a slightly better room. Still small and smelled musty but at least it was peaceful. The lack of friendly service and the quality of rooms make me not suggest this hotel, especially at the price range it charges. "Most relaxing hotel on the strip"
a drink in your hand with beautiful views as you lay by the pool or on the beach, what more can you ask for? beautiful hotel and grounds. we stayed in a city deluxe banyan room (i believe). the room was huge and right in front of the hotel. no complaints there. the staff was wonderful, everyone so helpful and accommodating. nothing less should be expected […] from a spg resort. loved being right on the beach, we have a one year old so i loved the fact that we can transition from the beach to the pool at anytime. although i will say that the number of pool chairs is limited so it was imperative to get there early and claim your spot. loved the beach bar for drinks. our favorite server was Joey, he took care of us the whole time we were there, for 6 days. his customer service is exceptional. the hotel is lucky to have him. my favorite part about this hotel is that its super chill. the vibe is laid back and classy but still family friendly. we visited the other spg hotels on the strip and they were crowded with so many people. Moana Surfrider was not like that at all. even though many people were in and out it never felt over crowded at all. Overall i loved our stay and would definitely come back again. "Charming respite in paradise!"
The warm friendly service staff at Moana made our trip the best stay in Hawaii we've had. We feel this hotel is the best choice in Waikiki and couldn't be happier. Definitely spend the extra on an ocean view room in the new towers. Great rooms and best views. The breakfast here is divine also and daily yoga was a plus.Genuine Expedia guest review
We stayed here the last nite of our 11 day Hawaiian adventure, and everyone wished we had allocated more time to staying here! "Classy, unique can't-miss hotel"
Got married in Hawaii and stayed at the Moana with my wife. The hotel is a beautiful building situated at the center of everything in Waikiki. Very nice hotel. Loved the extras-robe, slippers, water/coffee maker, safe in room. It is a very crowded hotel, but the hotel floors never seem that way, just the lobby, beach and pool. "Do not stay in the Diamond suites/rooms"
We paid $570 per night for rooms in the Diamond Tower. The hallways were filthy the room furniture was stained and dirty. All that was missing was a chalk outline on the floor and police tape. I have seen rooms at truck stops in better condition. We left and complained to management and they set us up in the Towers that were in much better condition […] but they charged us extra! "nice hotel but annoying extra charges"
The hotel itself was very nice. Nice design. Modern and clean. Comfortable. Very central location within Waikiki. But Waikiki is uber touristy and not relaxing at all. Also really annoyed me to pay a resort fee of 30 dollars per day and then beach chairs cost another 35 per day on top of that.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
