Rasa Ria is a expensive hotel but with great locations which you a paying for! The rooms a big, clean and some have good views over the sea. The service has been really bad this time. Lots of mistakes and errors. Everything from check in to roomservice went wrong.

We were dissappointed with the room - musty smell and bathroom not clean on arrival - not good for a 5 star. Location not great at all being about 40 mins from town. We stayed in the sister hotel of Tanjung Aru at the end of our trip - it was fantastic. Perfectly clean, lovely pools - much better then in the Rasa Ria. Location is perfect being 5 mins from town with own jetty to get out to islands etc. You are much less isolated and free to explore Kota Kinabalu.

The hotel lacks for nothing, everyones tastes are catered for, inside the hotel complex golf, beach, sailng, in fact everything is to hand. The hotel will also arrange for local tours , trips to town etc. That said however as one who cannot sit still for too long I hired a car for the last 50% of our visit, this provided total freedom during periods when the early rain season impacted on the art of doing nothing but basking on the beach and lay in those oh so clean and warm waters. A downside, yes, to my mind there exists within the hotel a desire to charge for every last item. Being so far from any other form of life to pay for shuttle bus into town, nature walks with in the grounds, etc etc is not necessary. The laundry is also pricy for a country with such a low cost base and salary level! One further gripe the hotel enjoys several excellent resteraunts, The Coast is the expensive top of the range variety, I wonder why when you are asked to dress for dinner, no shorts vests etc do they allow the standard to be eroded by some who see fit to turn it into the local beachside cafe! Agreed they make some effort (occasionally) at the door but surrender in the end to those that see fit to abuse the standards asked for. Dont however let my comments put you off, the food and location on the beach are first class and the chef is worthy of watching when the Kitchen Band entertains the guests in the evening, great fun for all.

Hôtel très agréable qui bénéficie surtout d'un emplacement exceptionnel, entre plage superbe et forêt. Depuis la plage, le Mont Kinabalu au loin entre les 2 ailes de l'hôtel !
