The only upside to this hotel was the check in counter. Everything else was bad. We got to our room and the TV wouldn't work. I looked behind to see if it was not plugged in and I bet behind the TV stand hadn't been dusted in about two years. It was disgusting. I called to have someone fix it, but they couldn't give me an estimate and it was late. So we canceled our request to go to bed. The bathroom was OK. It was clean, but the shower went cold to hot to cold. Won't stay here again.

We stayed here because of the convenience of being across the street from MSG for a couple of concerts, which was great, in fact there are no real complaints about the hotel itself. Check in on the other hand was painfully long. We literally stood in line for 1 hour to check in because the most attendents they had assisting people were only 3 and then they were taking there breaks which were evidentally scheduled at the same 3pm "check-in" time (per their policy)which would leave only 1 or 2 people for this process. The room itself was clean and acceptable and I would return here because of the convenient location.

I would rate it as a One had it not been for the great staff. They were delightfully pleasant and tried their best to help all around. The location is good, but the rooms are horrible. The paint was peeling; there were stains on the carpet. The shower had mildew and the entire place smelled of... well, "old." The only exception was when it smelled both "old" and like ciragette smoke. Again: great staff. I would not stay there, though, nor would I recommend it.

This hotel is in a very good location to get around the city. For the price I would have liked a bigger more updated room with a view of the city rather than the view of a brick building. The receptionist was not very friendly when I checked into the hotel. I must inform that I stayed in the Penn 500 club which really just meant that breakfast was included. The first time I stayed at this hotel they offered me a room the size of a closet. The second time I stayed with the Penn 500 club was much better. I don't think I will be staying there again.

The only reason to stay at the Hotel Pennsylvania is the proximity to Penn Station and Maddison Square Garden. Even with its decent rates, it is completely falling apart, except, perhaps, the room doors that look like the doors you would see for solitary confienment in a prison movie. But really the hotel just trading on its name and location at this point. The room we were in had scruffed walls, torn sheet rock and street noise even on the 9th floor. For $300 a night we got a room shabbier than any Motel 6 or Day's Inn I've ever been in.

Firstly, I have to say that the staff here were excellent especially considering when we checked in the line was a mile long. They asked if we wanted a room with a view of the Empire State Building which we said yes to. Unfortunately when we got to the room it had not been completely cleaned so when I called down they ended up having to move us. The location was perfect for this trip since we wanted to be near the Port Authority but other than that this hotel was not worth the amount per night we paid. They seriously need to upgrade the decor in this hotel if they are going to charge people that much. Yes, it could be argued that you are paying for location since it is right across the street from Madison Square Garden and not far from both Penn Station and the Port Authority but for the price we paid it was exhorbitant for the quality of the room.

Checking in took forever and then the room on the 5th floor -546 - which was allocated to us was an absolute disaster. The walls were dirty and furniture dusty, the bathroom stained, the room was tiny and musty. We had booked a superiod two doubles room so this was certainly not what I expected as I had stayed at the hotel a year agol We lodged a complaint with the front desk manager and asked to be moved. We were told to go back to the check in at the front desk with our request but to get a better room we would have to pay more which we were willing to do - anything to get out of room 546! The check in line was again very long and for about one hour there was one person handling check in. We met back up with a couple who had checked in at the same time as us and they too were lining up again to complain about the state of their room and to request to be moved. After waiting in line for about an hour and a half (now long after midnight) we paid for the upgrade and were given a very nice room on the 11th Floor which is the only reason why I could give the comfort and cleanliness of room, a decent grading above. The hotel is conveniently located, but it is sad to think that other people who are not confident enough to demand better, would be stuck in that horrible room first allocated to us. Hotel Pennsylvania needs to buck up.

After seeing the upscale lobby with its banks of television monitors, high ceilings and comfortable seating areas, I rode the elevator up to the 3rd floor and was surprised by how poorly lit the hallways were. A couple and their daughter were wheeling their bags to the same corridor where my room was located. The gentleman summed up his first impressions with one word: "Dungeon!" I had to chuckle out loud at his honesty. But I slept their two nights and felt relatively safe. The bed was quite firm, but I slept well. I did not expect a lot from a two star hotel, and it lived up to my expectations. I only stayed there because I forgot to make reservations for this one week (I work in Manhattan and live in Atlanta, GA) and all the nicer hotels that I checked in the area were completely booked up. This property has a lot of potential, but it is not living up to it. I will avoid this hotel in the future unless I hear that it has been remodeled extensively.

I'll start by saying it is difficult to rate this hotel. It has a great location, absolutely great. It is only a few blocks from Time Square and another few blocks from Grand Central Station. So the location is great, the quality of the hotel is definitely not the best. The rooms are small, marks, scuffs and dirt on the walls. The cleaning staff are really nice and helpful, the front staff leave a little bit to be desired when it comes to friendliness. Overall I probably wouldn't stay there again unless they renovated the interior.
