Good positionGenuine Hotels.com guest review
While it is convenient to getting around the city, that is the only thing that this place has going for it. From the barely lit hallways, to the holes in the door to the bathroom, to the mess on the floor, and the lumpy mattress, I can't see any reason to stay here. There are many other hotels that are just as cheap or just slightly more expensive, […] and I would have walked out immediately if I could have cancelled my reservation. "Perfect location and comfortable"
We spent two nights in the city and the hotel was perfect - four women in a room with three beds and a rollaway - spacious and incredibly convenient. Staff was friendly and helpful. Hot water, good water pressure, and even with many high school kids in adjacent and nearby rooms there was never a noise problem. Also affordable - glad we didn't decide […] to stay somewhere more expensive. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The WORST hotel I have ever stayed in"
This hotel was by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The carpet in the room was dirty and extremely worn, there was food debris on the comforter when I arrived, and the bed was ready to fall apart. When I complained and asked for a new room, I was told there were no other rooms available. The next day of our stay the deris from the bed, which […] I placed on the nightstand, was on the floor and not removed, and there was food behind the handles in the bathroom. When I asked for compensation upon checkout the manager gave me 50.00 back for my inconvience, and did not even look at the room herself to validate my complaints. "close to all must-see sights"
The rooms were only clean on the surface. there was lots of dust and dirt behind the night stand. The baseboards were also dirty and dusty. However, since we were not there much and just used the hotel for sleeping, it was ok.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Will not stay again"
The rooms were horribly outdated even with the 'upgraded' room. After the wow of the location and lobby we were so let down by the rest of the hotel. Will never stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good location, terrible room"
I can honestly say that our room at Hotel Pennsylvania was the worst hotel room I have ever stayed in (especially for the price). Do yourself a favor and book a better hotel. I would never stay at this hotel again... the only redeeming factor is the location by Madison Square Garden. According to locals, this was quite a hotel years ago. However, it […] is now a run down property desperately in need of a complete renovation. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

I needed a place for 3 days while I conducted regular business in New York. Supply and demand led to high rates for a very competitive location. The hotel staff as always were very helpful and responsive. The hallways are gloomy and carpeting rumpled. The bed and bathroom were fine. The desk was rickety. The desk lamp switch was intermittent. There […] was a large, dead cockroach beside the bed. The neighborhood, while safe, lacks decent restaurants, though I had a pleasant time at an Irish pub on 33rd St. that has $1 oysters (unfortunately sold out). One of the restaurants at the hotel, Lindy's, has friendly staff and an ineffective air-conditioner as well as high prices. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Convenient to transportation, restaurants and thea"
Having read a number of very negative reviews about the condition of the hotel and its rooms we were pleasantly surprised and pleased to find that our room and bathroom were clean and pleasant and well-equipped. The air conditioner had only one temperature and did not cool, but the weather was not that hot. There was no do not disturb sign, but a call […] to the hotel service department quickly produced one. The check in desk was the slowest that we had ever seen; fortunately the line was short. We would stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I would never stay at this hotel again. Very old all the furnishings were in bad shape and looked like they were from the 20's. Pictures were missing from the walls. Carpet was wrinkled up. Tile in bathroom chipped. Was just bad.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Building is very old...but Good Location"
My bf and I stayed at the hotel for four days. The hotel have a very good location. It is very convenience go to anywhere you want. The only issue to me is the hotel is super old. I think they didn't do a good job on maintenance the building. The blanket is old, pillow is flat, tv is old, bathroom is super old. Wifi is not free. There is no water and […] fridge in the room. After all, it's not too bad to stay, but I do feel a quiet disappointed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Horrible rooms, great location/beautiful lobby"
Checking in- I had one group in front of me and it took longer than I expected, approx 10 min. The room was horrible. The bed felt ancient. The remote didn't have a strong signal. The shower hot water was intermittent (good temp, scalding, luke warm, good temp, scalding, etc...every 25 seconds). The service in the hotel was better. My card got de-sensitized […] and they said it could have been the lock. The locksmith came the next day, but security was relatively prompt in letting me in. I had to pay extra for a fridge, no microwave. I left my stuff in the fridge when I checked out and came back at 12 and the fridge was GONE. All my stuff in it was GONE. I was in a rush, so I couldn't get my stuff. The one guy that knew where my stuff was took off for lunch exactly when I was there. I had to leave and all my stuff: two waters, 3 beers, 2 rice puddings, and 4 apple sauces...yikes. Checkout was very easy. Parking is a nightmare. I paid midtown prices. The sheets were very very old and didn't fit on bed. The top cover was really nasty. I didn't have the greatest reception there. The wifi wasn't really that great for me at the time. I had to use my own wifi. All in all, I would not stay here every again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Good location, however it took ages to check in. The Management of this hotel needs to find more smarter hands or just upgrade their IT system to enable quick check in. The hotel is right opposite Madison Sqr Garden, so you can imagine how busy the hotel and it's surroundings will be. Rooms are pretty basic but bigger than the usual New York spaces, […] nothing special. Horrible view. Plus they charge guests $5 to hold each piece of luggage. Other hotels hold it for free. "The Owner Must be Trying to Sabotage this Hotel"
Worst hotel I've ever stayed in, pealing paint in the rooms is just one of many signs of decay and lack of maintenance. I'd rather stay at a hostel next time,; this hotel is cheaper than most in the area, but even at the lower rate it's still not worth the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"I would not recommend it."
This hotel is perfect for tourists who want to be close to Penn Station etc. But for work travelers or people who have been to NYC enough to stay away from "tourist traps" -- this hotel is a let down. It looks very classy on the outside. But then you step into the old corridor (with dirty carpets) that smells of cigarettes. Sure I like my room reasonably […] clean, but I am not a fanatic. However I felt dirty removing my shoes and letting my feet touch the carpet in my room. The AC was on high and could not be turned off/down. So I slept with 2 layers of clothes and blankets. None of this is a deal breaker...but it sure didnt make the stay comfortable. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"wow. it was even worse than expected"
i've stayed at the hotel pennsylvania a few times in years past and it was pretty bad then, but it has gotten much worse since then. there was a long line at the desk and the employees looked like they had checked out years ago, much like we should have done the moment we arrived at our rooms. both my colleague's and my rooms were ill-kept, grungy, […] old materials. my bathroom shower drain looked like someone had defecated in it. the hallways look like they have not been vacuumed in years. the bag check in the basement seems like a forgotten dungeon. wow, just wow. we paid nearly $300 a night. the only thing going for this place is the location and the fact that other nearby hotels were all over $450/night. i truly hope you don't have to stay at this place anytime soon. it is truly terrible. "Imagine "The Shining" on a shoestring budget"
The bedspread was stained with god-knows-what and I couldn't get it changed. The A/C was louder than the TV. The bed was small and uncomfortable. While the hotel isn't a dump, it certainly is in need of major renovations. The carpets were bordering on mildewy, the bathrooms (while functional) were old. "Great location, but..."
The rooms are tiny, poorly lit, not thoroughly cleaned, and out of date. That said, the location couldn't be better, and the price for a hotel on Manhattan was far better than any other option. I would consider staying again, but only because of the price. It was adequate.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Holiday in NYC"
I holidayed in NYC for 12 days using two separate hotels. NYC is not a cheap place to stay so hotel accommodation would also be expected to be on the higher side. The entrance to The Hotel Pennsylvania promised much, however the advertised `luxury double`room was nothing of the sort, and a complete disappointment; there was nothing luxurious about it. […] The beds were comfortable enough, the room decor was drab, and the room aircon was noisier to run than shutting it off, and leaving the window open and suffering the outside traffic noise. The room was provided with an old type 22"TV (ie not flat screen type), situated in a cabinet at one end of the room, meaning that the nearest bed was OK to view and hear the TV, but the farthest bed position required the volume turned up to overcome the noise from the aircon/open window. The bathroom sadly was the biggest disappointment; seedy decor, bath taps that were leaking and could not be turned off, sink plunger that would not reseat in the sink because the mechanical positioner was seized, and the enamel was missing or damaged, on several areas of the bath. The general room lighting was very dim even with all the lights turned on, not helped by the dark and drab decor, which gave the room, a seedy atmosphere feel. "Great location everything else miserable.."
First off I loved the location it was very close to time square. The not so great part was the horrible condition of the rooms. There was mold on the walls, the air was not cool at all, we had to get a do not disturb sign for our door because when we got back from site seeing the cleaners had opened my bag and went threw it leaving it wide open (called […] security they could care less)... "REALLY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE"
Besides the oldness and to some extent filthiness of the hotel, what really made me rate this hotel is that their customer service is absolute garbage. I forgot a package after I checked out and tried, unsuccessfully, to authorize a friend to pick the package up. After several tries through email, explaining that I left the country, they insisted that […] only the person the package was sent to can pick it, otherwise they send it back to the sender. So, basically, because of their complete lack of customer service, I lost a few hundred bucks and they lost a customer that would have returned several times. And, hopefully, I can convince some of you to NOT book this place. Not worth it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Well located, but nasty rooms"
This is a huge hotel, with 12 elevators serving nearly 20 floors, and it's located right across from Penn Station, so ideal for city breaks. The outside looks pretty nice, and the large foyer is nice enough, if a little dated. However the guest floors are nasty... long dingy, ill-lit, badly-signed corridors that look like something out of the X-Files. […] My room was large, but sparsely furnished, with small, hard beds. The carpet was stained and dirty, the paint peeling off the walls and ceiling, and one large corner of the latter was covered in mold. The windows wouldn't open, and the air conditioner was a rusted lump that I didn't dare to mess with. For two of the three days of my visit, the hot water in my bathroom was brown. The room was cheap for Manhattan, but still pretty expensive by most other places standards - I'll spend the extra on somewhere clean next time. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"shabby hotel, helpful cheerful staff"
The old Penn was once great and is now a dump. There was crud on the carpet of an apparently unused wing, shoe and rub marks on the doors and the whole place is dingy and in need of renovation. However, the price is great for midtown Manhattan and you can't beat the convenience of the valet parking. At $50/day it's no bargain, but not exhorbitant for […] the area. Most importantly, for me, the hotel takes dogs and I was able to avoid the pet surcharge by booking and paying in advance via hotels.com. All in all a good stay despite the long check-in line.
