"clean and in a great location"
'Great location - a block from most subway lines - vegan lunch place close by. The hotel provides very soft towels which is a nice change from scratchy stiff towels at most hotels. Only downsides were that it took over an hour and half to get the electrician to come to resolve issue with TV/remote in my room, took a few minutes to figure out the trick […] to the very rickety/old door lock mechanism, and walls were thin so needed to sleep with earplugs. I'd definitely recommend this hotel for the location and room comfort. Oh and the bed mattress and box-spring both had bed-bug protectors. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The New York experience..."
Involves small living spaces and an awesome location. The manager Cynthia was very kind and helpful. Rooms and beds are tiny. The store is super expensive. I wanted hot water for my tea and it would have cost me $2Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location but terrible customer service"
The hotel is well located but the customer is terrible. The furniture is old and the maintenance is poor. The hotel has few employees over the desk but they never can help you because they are always busy and the waiting time can take up to one hour.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"great loc old hotel"
The location was the best thing about the hotel. every thing you need Is right there. The lobby was pleasant but the rooms were very moderate and dated and needed a lot refurbishment. The reservations clerk was really nice but every day at 3:00 o'clock there was a long line to check in and took forever, they should know that and get more help at that […] time. The house keepers were loud and not very friendly. also there was a lot of outside noise at night, hard to sleep. The price is great, if you can get a deal. if you can get passed the rooms it is the best location!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
It was bad, the hotel is very old. I suggest future guests to pay a bit more and go somewhere else. The room was smelly and every thing was outdated. The only up side of this hotel that its locationGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This was a great place to land for our first trip to NYC. The room was fine-no frills. Checking in was long- would have helped to have more people at the desk but the staff was really nice, friendly and helpful. Will stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient to Penn Station"
Great location and reception staff very helpful and accommodating. However, the room was out dated and very noisy - we could hear the elevator all night long. Beds were hard as were the pillows. Room was clean and supply of towels good. We were surprised that there was no hairdryer in the room! Not a comfortable stay for this group of three!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Terrible hotel in a great location"
The room I stayed was in a terrible conditions from the bed to the walls. Not even a penny has been spent on the room. There were holes in the bed and on the blanket, there was a TV from the history and I could not even had a shower in that bathroom. I can't believe that I paid more than two hundred dollars per night. It was one the worst hotels I have […] stayed so far. However, the location was great, I could walk anywhere from the hotel. "Incredible location, incredibly poor standard."
Stayed there one night since I was visiting a company across the street. Paid $380 for a room that at best looked like a poorly maintained motel room from the sixties.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Night mare on Pennsylvania"
This was the worst hotel for any human or animal to stay. The carpet, room, the corners were all filthy. The bathroom was so bad that we could not shower. It was the worst experience I have ever had. Do not ever stay at this hotelGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"It's cheap and in a convenient location, but old!"
The location of the hotel is very convenient - right across the street from Penn Station / MSG. The hotel itself is pretty old and run-down. It is in need of a major overhaul. Plus - when I booked the room, I booked 2 double beds. When I checked in, those rooms were gone, and instead they put me in a room with two single beds. What kind of hotel has […] rooms with single beds??? I haven't slept in a single bed since I was 11. On the positive side, it is relatively cheap for Manhattan. "I can't believe this hotel is still open"
Dirty & mildewy carpet, dusty cabinets, cramped room, tiny shower, leaking faucet. Why is Hotel Penn still open? Super disappointment for a $290++ rate. The health department should be looking into this dump.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
very close to where we at all the sights we want and like to see,, but the hotel room is nasty smells and needs more improvement and cleaning---"change of Carpet is a MUST".. and suggest to have or must needs a new blanket is too old and it SMELLS...needs your room to have a freshener smells. beddings and linens should have at least newer stuff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not worth your money..."
This place is OK if you just need a place to crash -- but outside of that don't expect anything. Almost everything in this hotel is older than your grandfather. Its perfect set to shoot next "Paranormal Activity" movie. I wouldn't recommend it for kids or families.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Only if necessary"
I arrived early so I couldn't check in so they charged me 5 bucks to store my bag. When I arrived back to the hotel around 9pm, there was a long line to check in, I called the desk so they could get more help. it took 30 minutes. They bed was terrible.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I was excited to stay at this historic hotel. I arrived after a long day of work around 11pm and there was a line for check in and 1-2 employees intermittently working behind the counter. I did not reach the front of the line until 12:15am and did not get into my reserved and pre-paid room until 12:30am. This was very disappointing. I also realized […] that the room I ended up in had a large window which was jammed open 1-2 inches, making the room cold (as there was no functioning thermostat). I was incredibly dissapointed with the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cancelled Reservation and Terrible Service"
I can't speak to the experience of staying at the Hotel Pennsylvania, as I did not actually stay there. I had booked a reservation from Mon-Thurs, and then changed my plans to arrive on Tues and forgot to change my reservation. When I didn't show up at the hotel on Mon, they cancelled my entire reservation - and failed to let me know. So when I showed […] up on Tues, I was told that the hotel was full and there was nowhere for me to sleep. I was left to wander around to other hotels to see if they had room, and eventually ended up spending the week on a friend's couch in Queens. Cancellation policy aside, my biggest complaint is that the staff was unfriendly and at times just rude. When I asked questions, I was talked to as if I should know the answers (even though I had never been to this hotel before). Even once the woman behind the front desk realized that they were going to kick me out on the street, she remained cold and unhelpful, basically telling me to use Expedia next time (as if that would have made any difference in my current situation). Because of the location, the Hotel Pennsylvania has no problem filling up their rooms (as evidenced by the fact that my room was supposedly snatched up for all 3 nights the moment it was cancelled). Perhaps because of that, the staff feels that they don't need to worry about customer service. But I was extremely turned off by the entire experience and will definitely not be returning there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Place was gross. Old, dirty and very poorly appointed. It needs everything from new sheets, spreads, carpet, paint, furniture. Really basic and un inviting. Would not keep my pet there!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great location across from Penn Station, convenient to all trains. Room was not really a room. Mold on ceiling, only had a foot of space to get from one side of room to another. Best water pressure in the shower ever. Would not go back unless I had to.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My room was dismal, dirty, and decrepit. For the amount I had to pay, it was not a good value at all. I would not stay here again, ever. The only good thing I can say about the hotel is that the check in folks were very attentive and nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was completely disgusting. Everything about the hotel was completely outdated, dirty and the staff was not friendly or responsive at all. The bath tub was filthy with a ring around it. The lighting in the room is awful, the bed uncomfortable, the bathroom is small and tight and the heating and air conditioning does not work! The front desk […] does NOT answer the phone and the small restaurant tucked in the front of the hotel is small, outdated and dirty as well. The downstairs baggage claim looks like an unfinished basement and extremely creepy. DO NOT STAY HERE!!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Armpit of NYC"
I've stayed in many hotels in NYC and grew up in the city as well. While the lobby isn't horrible (save broken air conditoning), the two king rooms I got to experience that night were both disgusting. Visible mold, major stains of all sorts all over the walls and furniture and the lack of a/c in either room were just the beginning. I had the pleasure […] of having a sharpened steel spring come through the mattress and pierce my skin while turning over to sleep. After 6 phone calls they finally refunded my money but failed to put me in a cleaner, nicer or upgraded room. If you strongly dislike someone; send them here Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Very convenient. Room was tight but had all the necessities. The lone chair was too big for the space between the desk and the fridge, and had wheels as well which exacerbated the problem. We liked the quick checkout. 5-11 May, Room 1278.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

oh my god it took SO long to check in. there were like 2 people working at the desk and everyone in line didnt speak english and had about a million questions. there were six people ahead of me and i waited literally ONE WHOLE HOUR it was ridiculous. you'd think the hotel would have appropriate staffing at check in time and allow adequate measures to […] help patrons who don't speak english. "Wonderful location, but..."
This hotel is right in the heart of the city. It is very large, and the line at the desk was always long. It is very old and needs a makeover. The lobby is beautiful, the rooms not so much. The bathroom had a makeover within recent memory it had new tile, new sink and new toilet. The bedroom had dingy pealing walls. The bed was fairly new, and comfortable. […] They charge for internet. "Worst NYC Experience"
I travel to NY quite a bit for work so I've stayed at many hotels all across the city. This was my worst experience so far. First of all, it's loud all the time. Noise during the day, construction during the night. The bed was uncomfortable - at least a decade or more old. The room and sheets just felt dirty and there was clear wear (peeling, rusting) […] on the walls, bathroom, etc. Another annoying part was there was a total of six outlet slots throughout the room, three of which were taken already. This doesn't include the alarm clock which was not plugged in. So I was left with two outlets for my laptop and my phone charger on two opposite sides of the room and I had to unplug one of the lamps at one point just so I had a plug. The immediate area outside is completely crowded with tourists and busyness since penn station / madison square garden is right across the street - which I guess depending on you can be annoying or that's what you want. The pillows were flat and uncomfortable. Finally, there was no free internet - it was $11/day. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Booked a room with 3 single beds. Did not get that! No coffee maker in room. Very noisy night. No bill received with express check outGenuine Hotels.com guest review
First, let me say I've traveled all over the world, I've stayed in hotels from Iraq to Paris. This hotel was awful.... I stayed with my mom and they gave us a room with two twin beds, one pillow each that wrenched both our backs. The towels and sheets were like sandpaper, the temperature control was non-existent. The TV was tiny in a 70's console. The […] shower? It was rigged on top of a bathtub in a way that the water sprayed directly at the wall (and floor) with flimsy shower curtains. I mean, it was just so dingy we didn't want to stay the 3rd night. I'd say it's ok if you just want a room over your head, but I've seen hostels that were nicer. And the cafe downstairs? Don't bother unless you want to wait 40 minutes and pay $21 for a chicken sandwich. Seriously. Go anywhere else. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not worth the drama"
Checked in after waiting on line for 35 min to get a room that was already occupied. I called the front desk for another room and had to wait for a 1/2 hour for the bellman to bring me a key. "Our trip to New York city"
The hotel was good, large room, full size beds, central location. New York was very pricey, everything costs you, and you walk everywhere.
