We absolutely loved our 4 nights and 3 days in Bali at AYANA Resort and Spa. We stayed in a Club room and the room, the bath, and the view was wonderful. We celebrated our 30th anniversary there and the staff was delightful, even surprising us on the day of our anniversary with a wonderful dessert and candles in our room. The staff did a wonderful job […] of remembering us and addressing us by name. They were did a wonderful job of meeting all our needs without us feeling like they were 'hovering'. The food was delicious and the resort is beautiful. The pools are delightfullly clean and refreshing and the sunsets at the Rock Bar are incredible. The only dissappointment for the entire stay is that the WIFI is U.S. $22/day (outrageous!) and the bandwidth is terrible!! We loved the hotel. Staff was very friendly and knew our names which we found impressive. Rooms had a nice ambience and were kept very clean. We loved the pools, the staff, the Jimbaran Bay beach and the Rock Bar. While the hotel is a 30-45 minute drive into Seminyak, I prefer the location of Jimbaran Bay. Quiet and clean.

We could enjoy the stay with the excellent hospitality of all of the staff of the resort. Foods at any restaurant in the resort are excellent. On the way to back to the airport, we used the resort's car services. The staff processed whole operational matters at the airport for us including carrying baggage, tax payment, etc. We got a minor issue common […] to this type of resorts, bug. My 7-year boy got several mosquito bites on his face at night. We reported the issue to the front desk and the desk promptly set a couple of mosquito oil in the room to have fixed the problem. We could hear every move our neighbours made which interrupted our sleep. However, the hotel found us a very quiet room on the opposite side of the hotel. The resort itself is wonderful. It is a perfect place to just relax with options for romantic, meditative, and hip locales all contained within the enormous resort. We were here on our honeymoon - so all of the amenities at Ayana were just what we needed. However, the rest of South Bali is much less romantic - very congested with traffic, very high […] pressure tourist trap, not at all the romantic Bali. Every excursion was 90% car ride and 10% sights - Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Uluwatu, Nusa Dua. The worst was our snorkeling excursion set up by the travel desk at Ayana to Nusa Dua, the group BMR (Benoa Marine Recreation) is listed in travel guides, but was overcrowded, like being at a cheap amusement park. Snorkeling was terrible in the area they had roped off between a fleet of boats. We expected a 5 star concierge to steer us away from unpleasant excursions. The next week in Ubud was much more the picturesque Bali we were hoping for. So if we did it again we would save Ayana for the last 3 days of our trip when we are tired of sight seeing and just want to lounge by the awesome pools and watch the ocean and dine on great food. We stayed in a cliff villa and these cannot be compared to the hotel rooms. The villa is massive and very impressive and so private. Comes with a 24 hour butler who will pick you up and drop you off anywhere you want to go within the resort. The resort is set on 30 hectors (massive) so having the butler take us everywhere was a massive bonus because […] we have a 3 year old. We also had an amazing 5 star restaurant as our breakfast area which is different from the resort rooms breakfast area. The hero of this resort is the rock bar and ocean rock pool.... the rest of the resort is nice but just like any other massive 5 star resort. Staying in the resort gave us priority access into the rock bar which was great because even on a cloudy day there was a huge queue of outside guests waiting to get into rockbar. We had our own queue and just went straight in. The babysitting service and kids club is fantastic, they were very creative and gave our son lots of locals crafts to make. The resort is huge and beautiful. However everything is overpriced in the resort. I can understand this as customers pay to maintain the beautiful resort. We have travelled a fair bit and commented that it doesn't get any better than this! We stayed for 3 nights and ventured from the Resort on one occasion (for dinner on Jimbaran Beach which added nothing to our holiday). The Rock bar and ocean pool are incredible. Just for something different go to the other infinity pools with views straight out to […] the ocean. The fitness centre was very well equipped. The restaurants are superb - watch the sunset at Kisik Restaurant. I felt like I was on a movie set. Kubu Beach is a cracker - don't be put off by the 197 steps. Not a big deal and plenty of places to relax on the way up. The beach is beautiful, the beds brilliantly placed....and plenty of service on hand if you want a beer. We even got a visit from the monkeys who swarmed through the jungle behind the beach. As a couple we stayed in an ocean view room. Large, comfortable and Balinese (it is not like generic hotels where you feel like you could be anywhere in the world). We had a look at the Villas - wow....already thinking of a Christmas holiday with our older children. The breakfast buffet - just amazing. This Resort gives you sensory overload. Stayed in 3 hotels in Bali and this was the only hotel that charged for Wi Fi (roughly US$20 pet day). Had some good points (rock bar) but it is situated well away from anything else. If you stay I suggest taking a taxi to Jimberan for dinner and having seafood in the beach.

And the food was divine, as was the service. I had actually booked it initially as I wanted to go to the Rock Bar without having to queue, and this was well worth it - to walk to the front of the line and be treated like royalty as a house guest is worth staying here - the bar is as fantastic as it looks. Whilst the whole resort was perfect for what we wanted - to not leave the resort for the 3 days - if you are looking to get out and about, it is very removed from the surrounding area, although cabs are cheap and easy.
