"Romantic, quaint, and best spot on the island!"
If you're looking for a quiet, romantic, beautiful high and boutique hotel then absolutely stay here! The Room was amazing and the hot tub at night was great to watch shooting stars! Beach was flawless and the staff catered to our every whim! The only down side I can say is be prepared to pay $7 for a coke and $9 a bottle for a coors light. Yup. The […] drinks were outrageously expensive and I would stay clear from the toom service but who cares when you're looking at that view! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
VERY NICE VIEW AND VERY NICE HOTEL , very helpful staffGenuine Expedia guest review
Great room, wonderful service. Food excellent but a bit pricey. Loved our stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel has an annual closure for maintenance during September and October. We stayed in the hotel the first week they reopened. that is a big mistake! Many of the rooms have issues that appear as guests check in. In our case, the hot water heater was broken and after spending a night in our room they moved us to another one. Then the second room […] had electrical issues (a breaker switch had been turned off) and they had to send someone to fix it. On top of it, we had a severe rain storm and the roads leading to the outside were flooded. One could not drive out of the hotel unless one hired a van. The staff was very helpful of course, but I recommend that people avoid the hotel for several weeks after the annual reopening, perhaps wait until the official end of hurricane season (November 30) to make sure all issues have been resolved and that you do not face the rain we had. I stayed on the Dutch side for 3 days at villas with a large group and decided to stay here by myself for 2 days. It was completely worth it. The views are the best I had seen on the entire island with calm waters, no seaweed, good snorkeling (better than creole rock) and excellent staff. You feel like a celebrity with the attentive service and the […] rooms are luxurious and on the beach. The food was mediocre, but everything else was superb. As someone who stays in a variety of upscale hotels for work, this blew me away and I highly recommend staying here. Treat yourself. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A Great Stay"
Overall this was a very satisfying stay. The staff was friendly and the facilities were great. One or two small service glitches (50 minutes to wait for ice) didn't detract from a very nice experience. Our junior suite was virtually on the beach and was perfect for us. Room was large, spacious, bright and clean. The little kitchenette was a great part […] of the room and allowed us to have breakfast, snacks, drinks etc. in our room or the very nice patio. About half the food and beverage staff were disinterested in doing their jobs, very slow, unattentive and aloof, while the other half were very friendly and accomodating. I highly recommend La Samanna to all. It is a mere 12 minute drive from the airport and on a private 2-mile beach which is spectacular. The staff couldn't be nicer and the views were breathtaking. The beach is serene and secluded. The water crystal clear and they have plenty of activities right off the beach. The drinks were a bit pricey. We ate at […] local restaurants so can't comment on the food. They supplied one outlet with a built in transformer which was great for charging devices. Free wifi in rooms and on the beach. Only negative was the bed was not the most comfortable and especially the pillows!!! I would definitely recommend they invest in some softer pillows! Overall, such a wonderful trip and I would go back in a heartbeat. Thank you to all the staff! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

La Samanna is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location . It's quiet and peaceful. Only heard the sound of the ocean in the daytime as well as the night. Beautiful boutique hotel. Staff was friendly enough but did not necessarily go out of their way. Rooms were nice and clean, nice amenities. Pool area and attendants were great probably my fav part. "Excellent St Marteen Hotel"
La Samanna is not too arguably the nicest hotel in St Marteen. It's located in the "Beverly Hills" area of the island, just over the Dutch/French border. Convenient to the airport (just ~10 minute drive), La Samanna is nicely secluded. The hotel has its own secure beachfront. The room we stayed in (a deluxe ocean suite, second story) had an amazing […] view of the water and was also close by to the beach bar/restaurant. The grounds are also beautiful. Pros: Secluded, secure beach with clear, blue waters and fine white sand. Excellent snorkeling right on beach. Waters have plenty of fish and some nice rock formations. Hotel provides gear for free. Water sports (wave running, jet skiing, etc) also available. Excellent beach bar with plenty of food and drink choices. Accommodating, friendly staff all around - desk, bar, restaurant, housekeeping. Onsite fitness center, business center, spa. Beautiful, secure grounds. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"I loved the hotel"
I loved everything the hotel is beautiful, the service is amazing, the food delicious... the view was what I loved the most... Great beaches!!! Friendly people.Genuine Expedia guest review
I loved this resort! We visited to celebrate my birthday and it was just wonderful. The staff was always friendly and over the course of our visit, we had our favorites - some of whom have been mentioned in other reviews. We visited in the "shoulder season" of mid-June which is not the busy/heavy tourist time although the hotel was still fairly full. […] Even with the number of guests onsite, we never felt as though we were on top of others - there was still a feeling of relative privacy. As other reviewers have mentioned, there wasn't a lot of variety in the dining options - especially for dinner - but everything on the menu was fabulous. We were never served anything that wasn't prepared very well - including our private dinner on the beach. My only disappointment was the breakfast - the buffet was the only option and it was rather expensive if you just wanted a small bite and a cup of coffee. I highly recommend Pablo for a bike tour (arranged by the hotel) and visiting Orient Beach's Bikini Beach. My only regret is that we ran out of time to do everything we wanted to do. I could easily see us going back - it was a really special place for a vacation. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Secluded location, beautiful beach, manicured grounds, very well-appointed room, lovely staff. Hotel dining was sub-par, but only 10 minute ride to Marigot or 25 minutes to Grand Case for some of the best food in the Caribbean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location, poor service"
La Samanna is located about 15 minutes from the airport directly on the beach. However, it is fairly remote from other destinations in St Martin and you'll want to rent a car to get around easily. We had trouble finding the hotel in our car as the staff at the rental car company and several other places we stopped had no idea where the hotel was. The […] hotel's web site does not currently supply driving directions from the airport, and they list a PO Box on their own web site. When we did arrive, the manager at the desk was shocked that we had so much trouble finding them. We should have looked for the small sign on the ground behind a tree and some garbage collection dumpsters indicating the turn. Unfortunately, the service disappointments at this gorgeous hotel and location continued time and again throughout our stay. We were forced to order room service after missing the beach bar on arrival by a couple of minutes. Dinner is only available until 9PM at the main dining room. We cancelled our reservation at Le Cave following this experience. To be clear, we did not expect this hotel to be cheap. However, when you are paying the room rates listed on this site and the costs on their bar and dining menus, you expect a certain level of service to convey. Unfortunately, you'll get much more hospitable service elsewhere on the island. Our concerns were raised to management during our stay, and were not addressed with even a passing concern. Let me start out by saying that St Martin is an incredible island, the cuisine, cultures, and metropolitan feel of both sides of the island are unlike anywhere else. Relaxing, peaceful, classy, but very expensive! ($35 breakfast buffet)I was initially put off as we arrived. I booked this trip sight unseen through expedia and relied on others reviews to make my decision. I thought that the facility was in a beautiful location with the most beautiful beach I have ever seen, but felt that the room(wifi problems, lights […] not working, no turndown service our first night( and some outside areas(walk to beach big tube exposed and rock erosion made it a tricky walk from our suite to the beach) were in need of repair. "OUTSTANDING RESORT SUGGESTED BY EXPEDIA!!"
I have never been the type (NOT saying its right) to take the time to write testimonials or post reviews. However having lectured on customer service in my former career and based on my recent stay with my wife to the wonderful LaSamanna resort I have to take a minute to provide you with feedback. My wife and I have been fortunate (after many years […] of hard work) to have traveled all over the world and stay at some of the beautiful hotels/resorts. However I have to tell you that our recent stay at the LaSamanna has to rank in the top spot. Obviously it's in the most beautiful destination in the Caribbean and on the best beach in St. Martin but more and most importantly your people running this resort are second to none. Not sure how much world class training you are doing or what methods but whatever it is Don't stop. What a bunch of wonderful and professional people. Romel (@ the beach Bar) (Leo II - everywhere Ha! - Katlyn @ reception ) Emmanuel, Anis, and SO ON, I can't believe how everyone is so ready to drop everything they are doing to satisfy your guests every need. "Great hotel; food and service disappointing"
The room and beach at La Samanna were outstanding. Unfortunately the restaurant was extremely disappointing - the food was mediocre at best, the prices were very high and the service was poor. La Samanna is not an inexpensive place to stay. I booked it because I wanted a first class experience and was prepared to pay for it. My advice to La Samanna: […] if you want to attract first class customers and charge first class prices, get your act together and upgrade your restaurant and staff training. At these prices, customers don't expect to be compromise or be disappointed in any way. On the bright side, we found many good off-resort restaurants and did have a very enjoyable trip to St. Martin. "La Samanna... paradise in St-mArtin"
I have stayed in many different resorts (well over 10 in the Caribbeans) and I can say, without hesitation, that La Samanna is one of the best resort out there! The service was superb; the staff is extremely attentive! I stopped by every day to ask for help from the concierge (thanks Roberta!), and every time I was received with a smile. Courteous, […] friendly, helpful, are only a few words that described my experience! The restaurant and the selection was excellent. I met the chef while entering the restaurant and he offered to prepare any thing I would like! I was craving steak that night and he prepared it with a piece of "foie gras"... simply excellent! The beach staff was always very attentive! Food service was surprisely quick... The staff made sure that we had everything we needed to be comfortable... beach towels, cold water was always available and quickly delivered... Overall, a fabulous stay.... "Wonderful hotel, wonderful location."
My partner and I went to the hotel to celebrate our anniversary weekend. The hotel itself is in a stunning location with the most amazing views, by far one of the most beautiful parts of the island. Everything in the hotel was 5 star quality. The only complaint I would make is the staff in the beach bar which we used for lunch on 2 occasions. I am in […] service myself and therefore when paying that much for a 5 star accommodation my expectations are high. I was disappointed with the food and service at the beach restaurant and feel a little bit more training of the staff wouldn't go amiss. I also treated my partner to a private Caligula dinner. The setting was phenomanal and the waiter we had was excellent, the only qualm was the food. Paying that much for a dinner I expected the food to be amazing. The platters were shockingly huge and very wow factor, however all were cold and not really the quality i would expect. In my opinion they should make the platters much smaller but better quality, or serve food to order that way it could be completely fresh. All in all the hotel was wonderful and i would definitely love to go back, there are just a few little issues they need to brush up on and they would be 100% 5 star. "Left Hand doesn't know what the Right Hand is Doing"
03/24/15 Denneyorama Florida
St Martin-Dutch or French Side- is like most Caribbean islands with its quaint rusted out cars abandoned on sides of the roads that are made up not of solid pavement but a collection of pot holes. With its constant open construction, clear lack of zoning and locals languishing on sidewalks you really know when you've arrived. It is what it is and we all know and expect it. We all go for the beaches. I booked this hotel after research on Trip Advisor through their official hotel website so I didn't experience any bumps. We used the hotel concierge to book a rental car to pickup/drop off at the hotel to save time and for an airport transfer. We were only staying 1 night so we could easily afford to go big booking the $1800/night 1-Bedroom Plunge Pool Suite. This room described as: "Each Suite commands stunning ocean views and has access to a rooftop solarium. Here you will find luxurious lounge furniture, a covered gazebo, an outdoor shower and a private soaking pool." (Belmond Website) The Plunge Pool Suites are actually not a plunge pool. They all only have jacuzzis. Doesn't sound bad except its March and its already hot on those rooftops. Too hot for a jacuzzi at 12pm but not too hot for the advertised plunge pool. Advertising was (I feel) intentionally misleading. The rooftop showers are not private at all. They are a single metal pole and shower head exposed in the most visible front corner of all rooftops. A plane at cruising altitude could see you. As in the room we eventually ended up with, its not a "suite" at all. A suite by definition has a separating door that blocks sound and light. The doors are shoddy sliding doors with louvered shutters blocking neither light nor sound. If someone dropped a pin in the living room you will hear it. You cant check in until 4pm and the room that we were given, despite our reservations weeks in advance, was not going to be ready until 4pm. And it wasn't. Hire some more maids so the rooms can be turned by 2pm. What would it really cost for exhausted travelers to be able to check in at a reasonable time and get 22hrs in a hotel they've booked for a day? Who, traveling to St. Martin, wouldn't have been traveling for several hours to get here? By 4pm...the day is over. When we arrived the wrong room was booked for us in a beach front suite. The plunge pool suites were sold out but they didn't tell me that, instead they tried to pass off a room with no rooftop, a jacuzzi instead of a plunge pool, no outdoor shower and no covered gazebo for the same price. I said no. We ended up with the Beach Front Suite anyways and had the opportunity to look at the 2nd floor and rooftops of our buildings and see the plunge pool suites. 1% problems? Maybe, but when you charge the same prices as the Mandarin Oriental in Columbus Circle of NYC then you need to get your act together bc you're attracting that level of clientele. Hotel never apologized, never offered any sort of sub par spa service or free drink to offset their mistake. They were nice enough about it but lacked total responsibility. It was what it was. We were lucky to be there. When questioned how this could happen having used their corporate website the response was, "the website isn't "us"". Rental Car: When we arrived, like most travelers to St Martin after several hours of flying, we were tired but ready to start our vacation. The rental car desk agent was out to lunch. Her "lunch" break was from 12:20-2:30pm. We arrived at 1:30 and were told we would have to wait defeating the purpose of saving time by renting though the hotel altogether. At 2:37 we approached the front desk again and asked them where the heck this staff member was? They said she's "just a quick call away" and we'll bring her here immediately. (Why couldn't they do this when we arrived is what I was thinking?!) They did but when she arrived she had a 2:45p appt with another guest who had to be taken care of first. We didn't gain access to the vehicle until 3:30p. The hotel arranged for us to be picked up from the airport so they knew our flight arrival information and they knew we rented a car from them. Why not make arrangements for someone to process the rental for us?! When we arrived and immediately inquired about picking up our car, having cited arranging it through the concierge, the front desk staff said the concierge doesn't do rental car arrangements and we have to use the rental car desk...who was out to lunch for over 2hrs. How is there such a lack of coordination in a hotel that purports to be the nicest on the island and at these prices? The only staff member in the ENTIRE hotel who can ask us to sign something as mundane as a rental car agreement is out to lunch for 2hrs when you know a guest is arriving that booked a car? Get your act together. There is no gym. There was a walk up stairs to a yoga/pilates center but it was an unbuilt grass patch and an "art" gallery. Left Hand makes promises the Right Hand doesn't know about or cannot accommodate. This was true for their website for processing reservations, renting the car and the shortcomings of their actual "suites". Grounds are beautiful. You're in St. Martin. The staff that you encounter after you get through the initial shock of the front desk are all amazing, they're all greatly hospitable and they will all speak english with you. But the total complete shortcomings of the management "running" the place are difficult to overlook. You don't get to rest on your laurels at these prices. Its the nicest hotel on the island bc there's no competition.

It may be expensive, but this ultra resort has no competition in St Martin. Luz rooms, beautiful long beach, and great service. The hotels dinner restaurant has an amazing view of the beach and the food is high end French at Paris 3 star prices. Try at least one night if you can stomach the tab.
"Outstanding Service & Serenity"

Just got back from another great visit at La Samanna. The location and staff are just excellent. The grounds are exquisitely maintained and the beach is gorgeous. There are ample water sports available (included) -- a Hobie cat, snorkeling equipment, paddle boards, etc. Beach seating is ample and there are wonderful beach attendants who set things up and will fill orders for food and drink. In addition, there is a terrific beach bar with a very cool vibe and two infinity pools. A well maintained gym, yoga studio and art gallery where Roland Richardson, a renowned island artist, welcomes folks into his studio every Wednesday. When we arrived at our room we found a handwritten note of welcome from the property manager and a bottle of champagne cooling in a bucket of ice. Our kitchenette included an Espresso machine . La Samanna consistently delivers quality. A couple of tips though -- this place is pricey. It is not centrally located, so if you want to explore consider renting a car. If you just want to chill, taxis are easy to arrange but quite expensive. Reach out to the concierge when you are there -- all of them are great! Also don't be afraid to call the managers, they welcome opportunities to help. We were looking forward to using the Hobie Cat one day but was told it was broken. We rang the manager to see when it might be fixed. It was ready the next day. You pay a lot for this place and staff are committed to making sure you enjoy everything!

Wonderful stay at La Sammana, one on these hotels that makes you feel special! From the beautiful room to the attention received by the waiters and waitresses (thanks to Appoline, Isabelle, Yudi, Jean-Yves….), I spent a heavenly stay at La Samana….Check the watersports located on the most beautiful beach in St.Martin…Marc and his team will take care of you as if you were not only an esteemed client but a friend! Rent a cabana on the beach and appreciate a superb service…..I understand that a new Chef has arrived in the hotel….I haven't been able to taste his food during this trip but judging from his book available at the Concierge desk, I can't wait to have him prepare a meal for a few friends in the wine cellar! Mike and Sebastien, the fairly new Managers are bringing a wonderful ambiance to La Sammana….I will return soon!
"Perfect 5 night getaway"
I was inclined to write my first ever review for this hotel based on some of the negative reviews i read before coming! My husband and i are in our mid 30's with two young kids and wanted a getaway where we could fly direct from philadelphia to a quiet, gorgeous beach, villa style rooms, and delicious food. La Samanna delivered exactly that. We paid the 15% off best available rate and received a 2nd floor oceanfront room in bldg F by the pool/beach bar. It was perfect, a two second walk down stairs off our balcony right onto the beach. The room was small but we loved it, as we dont need alot of room just the two of us. The beach staff were excellent, and the drinks were amazing, specifically the rum delice! Prices were high for drinks/food but we expect those kinds of prices when traveling anywhere in the carribean. They did however include a huge bottle of Evian every day at the beach which was great!! The spa was amazing, there was a big impressive workout facility, the concierge was extremely helpful when planning dinners out every evening, and even had taxis pick us up right by our room so we didnt have to walk to the lobby to wait for one. Breakfast buffet was delicious with a beautiful view of the perfect beach/ocean. Dinner at Trellis was amazing.. Foie gras, rack of lamb, and snapper all to die for.. And we are foodies. We went to grand case one evening and recommend going on a Tuesday night when the street is closed off for vendors.. And you can really experience the culture leading up to the islands carnival in april. So many reviewers dwell on what they didnt like or what they would do differently, but if youre looking for a beautiful hotel with a perfect quiet beach and wonderful service then la samanna is perfect for you.
"Great Location..poor service and food"
03/17/15 Doug G Orlando, Florida
La Samanna came recommended because it is one of the best hotels on the island. Unfortunately it fell very short on service and food quality. The rooms are very nice and beds are very comfortable. The service was surprisingly poor, slow and not near the level one would expect for these prices. Our experiences and feelings were echoed from many other guests. The food in the beach restaurant (one of the 2 restaurants) was poor and came with frozen french fries with nearly every meal option. The private tasting menu in the wine cellar is excellent and a wonderful experience. Beach is beautiful and the water is nice and clean. Sports facilities are Ok but the tennis pro "Angel" is amazing and was a welcome surprise. Overall, feel the service was so poor that I would not recommend choosing this hotel given it's price point. If you do stay at the hotel I would recommend eating dinner and one of the many excellent restaurants on the french side of the island.

Sweet perfection. Location amazing, Service Warm, Restaurants amazing. Pools inviting. Beach is a private paradise. Rooms/Suites clean and home like. Tennis and Spa second to none. This lovely hotel is the best on St. Maarten. The beach is wonderful...beautiful clear water, great beach service that includes complimentary cold Evian. The suites are spacious and nicely decorated. We loved our room right by the infinity pool. The view is probably better from other rooms but easy access to the pool and pool bar was great! The hotel is not really within walking distance to anything so I recommend renting a car if you are going to want to go out to dinner or exploring. Otherwise it will cost you $50 round trip just to grab dinner in town. Loved this place though and would hope to go back again!
