The Peninsula New York's tri-level spa and health club (renovated September 2008) is considered one of the best in Manhattan. On the top level, a 42-foot glass-enclosed pool, paired with a spa tub, offers wonderful views of Midtown Manhattan. Water-aerobics classes are complimentary. The health club features a cardio room with about 25 machines, along with plasma TVs and city views. Additional offerings include a skylit weight room and an exercise studio with complimentary yoga, Pilates, jazz, body-sculpting, and other classes daily. Locker rooms have marble showers, saunas, steam rooms, and a selection of workout attire that guests may borrow. The pool and health club are open daily from early morning until evening.

Popular walking and running routes include Central Park Drive (closed to traffic during scheduled hours) and the path around the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. The Loeb Boathouse, on a picturesque lake, rents rowboats and bicycles. The recreational activities listed below are available on site or nearby; fees may apply.
Some of NYC’s best-known landmarks are north of 14th and south of 59th—or Midtown Manhattan. Here, couples kiss atop the Empire State Building. Grand Central Station’s opal-faced clock is a famed meeting spot. While fortunes are made on Wall Street, fortunes are spent at Fifth Avenue’s shops. Other highlights include Madison Square Garden, the United Nations, and the Garment and Diamond districts.

I stayed in the Peninsula's cheapest room (which was FAR from cheap) and for that price I got a very disappointing room. However, the pool overlooking the Manhattan sky scrapers and the adjoining sauna/steam room and showers were heavenly. If they were open until midnight and not just until 9:30pm I would have recommended this hotel to people who enjoy swims as much as I do. But the fact that it closes early makes it hard to enjoy it when one spends the day in meetings and the evening in the theaters. And after that to come back to an average room (for a price that would have gotten you an amazing room at a cheaper hotel)...

I was asked some time ago by a young, trendy and frankly snobbish nephew of mine why I choose to stay at the Peninsula when I'm in NCY. He said he didn't get it, and went on to extoll the excesses of the St.Regis (of which he had experienced only their famous bar, by the way). My title for this review is my answer to that question: comfort, quiet luxury, and dependiblity. The Peninsula is a nice place to return to, even if your NY visits are not frequent -- they make you feel welcome. "Welcome back to the Peninsula" might be the required greeting for the staff at the front desk, but it's a nice personal touch nonetheless. This place is not about flash, but about feeling well cared for. It's "luxury" said in a whisper. This is an older hotel, and some of the decor betrays that. One floor of the hotel was recently redone, so I attributed the few signs of wear in my old-decor room (evident mostly in the bathroom, which could have benefitted from being repainted and caulked, but also in the slighly stained and overwashed carpet in the room and in the hallway) to a long-term redecorating plan. Aside from that little hiccup, my room was perfect. I'd booked a discounted package that specified one level of room (Superior), and I think I might have been upgraded to the next level (Grand Luxe), but I'm not sure since some of their rooms fall between those two descriptions. Among the cool features of all Peninsula rooms -- a central control panel by the bed for temperature and lights (including nightlights) and a display by the front door giving outdoor temperature. Coolest feature in my room -- a television in the wall at the foot of my capacious bathtub in the huge, marble bathroom (very large walk- shower, with great water pressure). In my experience, Peninsula rooms booked at a discount will invariably be interior "courtyard" views (meaning a large airshaft), but the heavy curtains and sheers obscure what's outside, and the windows are soundproofed. If you want knock-out

The Peninsula sets the standard in New York. The rooms are quiet, clean, opulently appointed and the staff never disappoints. Breakfast is expensive to it is wise to have that included in your rate. I look forward to returning to the Peninsula on my next trip to the Big Apple.

Everything was great about the hotel and the only reason I didn't give it all 5's was because I was told that the new spa was open but it wasn't entirely finished. The pool and the fitness center were open, but the sauna and steam room were not. I was pretty disappointed, especially because I specifically asked if it was open.

I've stayed at most of the best hotels in NYC although never at the Peninsula. Got a great deal through this site which made it a no-brainer and I seriously got much more than I expected. the deluxe room was identical to the rooms at The Berkeley in London's Knightbridge area, but larger and costing me half as much. Service was what expected from a hotel of this caliber and i believe they have made a new frequent customer.

Room 1609 has a serious leak in the tub -- bathroom floor gets soaked everytime you take a shower. Avoid room 1609. Room also gets cold at night, even when thermostat is set to high. Expected higher quality for the price. But would still recommend the hotel -- room was very quiet, great for sleeping in the day.
