Just an amazing hotel to stay. We were on our honeymoon and we barely afforded here but I'm glad there we stayed here. They upgraded our room to ocean view since we were on our honeymoon and the view, service, everything is just amazing here. On negative side, they have complimentary wifi but it's pretty slow ( 30-40 kbs dl ) so you can't do much and […] you can upgrade it for 20$ a day. I think it doesn't make any sense to pay for fast wifi after you paid >600$ for a night. Also they charge 30$ for overnight parking and assuming most people get there with cars, it's kind of +30$ to every room which is quite disappointing (also we didn't know about it until I got the bill in check out) Read more

The location and views at this hotel are stunning. The hotel, however, needs a remodeling. It looks as if they did a great job remodeling in the late 80s and haven't updated since. Our room's furniture was scuffed and covered with lots wear-and-tear. The screens on our windows were grimy, worn and needed replacing. The plastic "silverware" at the pool […] was peeling and falling apart. The whole hotel needs a cleaning and a fresh coat of paint (to start). It feels like a cruise ship. If that's your thing, you'll love the St. Regis. To us, it lacked the aloha spirit and was removed from the beauty of Hanalei Bay. It felt very touristy (lots of fanny packs and black socks in sandals). The staff were friendly and attentive enough, but getting an "aloha" or "mahalo" was a rarity. Strange for HI. Compared to Ritz-Carlton in Maui, the St. Regis wins on location and layout, but loses at everything else. Next time, we will just rent a house on Hanalei Bay. Read more

It's hard to answer questions like would i recommend this hotel without the context of budget. This hotel was EXPENSIVE. There were a lot of surprise expenses as well and food there was literally 3-4x as expensive as the exact same thing in town. We had a great time at the hotel. The staff was a little more helpful than we're comfortable with (our room came with a butler, but we didn't use his services). The pool is fantastic, with unbelievable views (sunset especially). We spent too much time sitting by the pool, enjoying the sun. No attention to detail. A five star price in a 3 star operation. The food was adequate at best and the service not consistent with the price. For a 'five star hotel', the service was absolutely awful. We are generally laid back people, and we were surprised to see when we checked in that many of the other guests were frustrated and acting downright rude toward the hotel staff -- even more surprising, by the end of our stay, I am sad to say that we too were extremely frustrated and had very […] short tempers from a perceived disregard of the hotel staff toward all guests. One particular incident included ordering a breakfast room service the night before we wanted it so we could make it out for a day trip adventure. We needed to leave the room by 5:25a, so we ordered the food to come at 5:00a -- it didn't actually arrive until 5:22a with absolutely no concern from the staff and a rather expensive bill for a pretty basic breakfast (you do the math). The pool and the beach at the St. Regis really aren't that special either. Additionally, we experienced multiple other negatives directly resulting from hotel staff disregard. They are horrible. Here's my advice: Stay at the Koa Kea in Poi'Pu (listed as a 4.5 star, but 5-star in my mind) -- then for one afternoon, drive to Princeville and eat brunch on the patio of the St. Regis overlooking Hanalei Bay. The view is terrific, but there is no need to stay at the hotel just to get it. Read more

The hotel is the height of luxury; everyone calls you Ms., Miss., or Mr. using your last name. The standard room was luxurious and comfortable. My only complaints were that the bed pillows were far too hard and the cord on the hair dryer far too short. The hotel is a good 40-60 minutes from the airport. But the drive is beautiful and unless you are wanting to visit lots of different places, there is no reason to leave the hotel. They are on a beautiful, secluded beach; they rent sturdy and comfortable snorkeling equipment, surf boards, and kayaks; the pool is not too hot and not too cold; the restaurants are as good as you get in Kauai (which is not known for its food); and the spa treatments are divine. I wasn't there to workout, so I just peeked at the gym which, like everything else, looked clean and well equipped. They even have a sightseeing, snorkeling trip that leaves from the beach area. They have a beach workout most mornings, as well as other entertainment for adults and children. There were some small children there, but I timed my trip to go before school let out for the summer, and the parents were surprisingly well behaved (meaning they expected their children to behave). We were very pleased when we arrived at the hotel. It had absolutely gorgeous views of the sunset and a gorgeous infinite pool that overlooked the ocean and the mountains. The pool/ocean area is a bit small (1 large pool), but the service was great. Here are some things to be aware of: 1). Roosters roam the property and are not afraid of waking you […] up at 5am in the morning. They will caw all morning and drive you nuts. Bring earplugs. 2). The bathroom has a window that can be either transparent or opaque that looks out into the rest of your room. Here is the issue. When you wake up and use the restroom in the middle of the night and turn on the light, it is BRIGHT. Even if you have the opaque setting on, it will wake you up. 3). The shower head is very small. I wish they had a rain shower head. 4). The gym is small. They have ellipticals and treadmills, some of which have a phenomenal view. They have free weights as well, but no machines and again the gym is a small. 5). You can not buy alcohol on the property at their hotel shops. You have to buy it at their bars or restaurants. That is a bit annoying as the prices of drinks are a bit pricey ($10 beers/ $12 - $17 mixed drinks). You can go to Hanalei to a local liquor store. Read more

We had a lovely room on the 3rd floor overlooking pool, ocean and mountains. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Grounds are beautiful. There is a private beach and hugh pool. Never over crowded. Kauai Grill was excellent and the Sunday Brunch fabulous. Rooms are very clean and roomy.The king bed was very comfortable. Top of the line toiletries […] for bathing etc. Everyday when we returned to the hotel we were welcomed back and asked about our day by the valets. Their staff seems very happy and most have been there for many years. We arrived at about 1pm and we were able to get to our room immediately. Normal check-in is 3pm. TV service is not really user friendly. There was no program guide available so you had to surf all the channels. (small inconvenience) Parking was $30 per day which added up after a 9 day stay and drinks at the bar were overpriced. $16 for a Bloody Mary. We stayed @ the Princeville Hotel 10 years ago prior to it being purchased by the St. Regis, and the renovations are beautiful. We stayed in one of the St. Regis suites, and enjoyed the amazing views, the comfortable beds, and large bathroom. The only things which still seemed dated were the windows in the bathroom, the bathtub and sinks, which just […] seemed a little odd given the overall updated feel of the hotel. It was a little frustrating to find a simple solution for breakfast, since we did not always want to spend $40-$60 on a breakfast buffet. We would have loved just a simple breakfast solution. The pool area was wonderful, and I liked that there was not the pool chair competition every morning as in some of the larger hotels (such as the Westin in Maui - good grief). For eating, go up the main road about a mile to the new "Tavern" restaurant and you'll be pleased you did, for it was the opposite in all ways: excellent service, outstanding food, reasonable prices, and world-class views. That grumble aside, we felt everything was worth the pretty penny we paid. We look forward to a third visit. Btw, don't miss the Princeville Ranch horseback riding and ziplining.
