"For an aging hotel, it was a really positive stay"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 26, 2013
The staff were really great and the amenities were reasonable.
"Location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 25, 2013
The hotel is located right outside of HNL and was amazingly convenient. The parking fee was not warranted, in my opinion. The staff was not particularly welcoming. The room was adequate.

Great location. We even tried to extend our visit we liked it so much. Comparatively speaking, the rates were very reasonable. It would be nice if Honolulu did something about their homeless population, but even they were engaging and harmless.

"Best pace to stay in Waikiki!"
The service of the restaurant is "typical Hawaiian" service but that doesn't take away from the experience at all and is actually somewhat comical. Other than that, the hotel was amazing. Try to get an ocean view in the old part of the hotel. So convenient to the beach. Get your beach chairs early in the morning (7am) because they fill up fast :-)Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by The Royal Hawaiian, A Luxury Collection Resort We are delighted to hear your wonderful descriptions of our classic resort and your compliments about our ocean view guestrooms and central location. It makes us so happy to hear that you feel our resort offers the best experience in Waikiki and we can’t wait for you next visit.
"Honeymoon in Paradise"
We were treated well from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The only one complaint was our room was located next to some sort of housekeeping facility, and there was banging on our wall, on-and-off, from 8AM until 10 PM. The room was great in terms of cleanliness and comfort. There were few outlets in good locations however, so be aware […] of that. The bathroom is also small, but quite nice. Response by The Royal Hawaiian, A Luxury Collection Resort It is wonderful to hear that you so enjoyed our Royal treatment and found your guestroom to be so clean and comfortable. Thank you also for commenting on our excellent beachfront access and many relaxation areas. We are sorry to hear however that you encountered noise next to your room and we have followed up with housekeeping on this unusual instance to ensure it does not happen again. We greatly appreciate your feedback and thank you for sharing your Honeymoon with us.

"Not a luxury hotel,"
When we checked in we were not told where the parking garage was. We followed a valet parking guy to find it. It would have been nearly impossibe to find We got incorrect info from a concierge on car route The wall switch by entry door turned on fan and overhead light. The light/fan had two chains to turn either one on or off, but chains were too […] high to reach. When I asked to bellman how to turn off either of them he told me to jump, which he did to. Later in our stay maintenance fixed the chains, but not really. They made one chain longer by taking off part of the other one. Then we could reach one chain, but we would have had to stand on the bed and jump to get to the other one. The room had a lot of dust on several surfaces. The TV had very few digital stations, and there was no guide to see what was on and when. The only way to do it was to go station by station, and it was very slow in reacting to the remote. So we called down to ask how to get a guide, and the person who answered said to try a certain channel, which didn't have the guide, then she said to try another channel, and it didn't have the guide either. So she said she would have housekeeping bring up a TV guide. Well, they brought up another remote. When I told them what we really wanted, he told us they have guide or any way of seeing what was on. There were other disappointments. This hotel is billed as part of The Luxury Collection, and it's priced that way. Luxury this was not. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Excellent, as always"
I have stayed at The Royal Hawaiian at least once a year in the last 14 years, and it continues to be my hotel of choice in Waikiki. Hotels and resorts are basically concrete and glass, the difference is the people that work at the hotel. The Royal Hawaiian has the best people.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location!!!"
The Royal Hawaiian had the old world feel and architecture I love, not to mention all the shopping you could imagine steps away. It is an iconic location, yet I cant help but feel short changed on the room service. The menu is limited and overpriced! We ordered from room servcie a bottle of vodka listed as 750 ml for $140 instead they gave us a 1 liter […] bottle at a cost of $465 wihtout mentoning the difference in size or price. We then ordered a second bottle and did not notice the difference until we received a room service bill for over $1,000!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Response by The Royal Hawaiian, A Luxury Collection Resort Thank you so much for your feedback. We are delighted that you so enjoyed our tropical garden oasis, spacious guestrooms and private guest beach area, but sorry to hear about your experience with our staff. "Best location and amenities"
This was the first time we stayed at The Royal Hawaiian - family of 3 with 16-months old girl. Room is very nice and clean - we had the non-view one, but that's fine. Housekeeping is excellent, everyone is very nice and polite. The hotel has its own area on Waikiki beach where guests can get a beach chair under an umbrella. But there's a downside to […] this - by 9am it gets crowded and mostly sure no chairs left. So try to get to the beach earlier. There are several areas that I felt is not very "royal" and "aloha"-spirited as it should be. The check-in process is very slow - the clerks don't seem to care much. They also do not bother explaining where everything is - towels for the beach, chairs, information about pool, amenities, etc. - no orientation info for guests whatsoever. You have to figure out all by yourself, unless you're a returning customer - then you'll know. The beach service personnel would smile and everything, but you get an impression that you're not quite valued, that you owe them something or you're disturbing them from enjoying themselves. That all ends when you give a generous tip )) I don't think that tips should be given first to ensure proper service, rather service people should earn that with their attitude and quality of service. "Loved this hotel"
We stayed in the charm of the historic part of this hotel which was well worth it. The rooms are big and comfy and decorated beautifully. It was like staying in a posh bedroom with an area for dining and not a hotel. It really showed off the roaring 20's and feelings of by gone days. The only thing we didnt like was that the hot tub closed at dusk. […] Who wants to go in a hot tub in the heat of the day only? Beach is private for hotel users only and is 3 long rows in front of hotel. Hotel is in the middle of town on the beach and is easy access to everything. They will get you a lounge chair and umbrella. Their luau is a bit pricier than others, but the food is MUCH better and the show is terrific being much like a cruise line show. Dukes is great for a fancy dinner or another section is just for casual. Cheeseburger in Paradise is great for casual dining. So is Jimmy Buffets. Both are great for breakfast. Dont waste your time on the Aloha Bus. Its hot and windy and not what it is cracked up to be. Doesnt stop every place they say they do. If you want trinkets go a block down to the right on the other side of the street and there are all kinds of funky little Hawaiian shops. They will barter with you if you try. ABC stores are everywhere. Grocery, drinks and tourist stuff. The main street has street acts at night and everyone goes out to see them. The second street over is more for bars and stuff. You can walk everywhere or take a trolly. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We can't say enough superlatives about the RH! The RH is a classy hotel from top to bottom! The staff is some of the most service oriented that I have ever experienced at a hotel property. "Great Location"
This was my second trip to Waikiki, but my first stay at the Royal Hawiian Hotel, and what a gem this place is. Amazing beach front location, for the pool, restaurant and Mai Tai bar with views of Diamond Head and the curving Waikiki beach. Plus this hotel has the architectural charm seen in the lobby, which has a view of the beach, gardens and amazing […] hallways. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they evem comped the breakfast room service on the day of check out, because it was going to arrive 30 minutes later than promised when I placed the order. "The Royal Hawaiian Resort...too Expensive!!"
The hotel was way tooooo expensive for its quality.. We had ants in the room, and the service response to come spray for it was too slow ...Also, we had to pay a mandatory $20 per day for services we did not use, like parking, breakfast for kids and internet...You think with the high rate per day we would have gotten all this for free anyway!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The location of this hotel is amazing. It's right at Waikiki, one doesn't need to cross a road. "THE place to stay in Waikiki"
Fantastic hotel in all respects - a peaceful and beautiful oasis in otherwise overly-busy Waikiki that oozes Hawaiian tradition without being stuffy. Stayed a week in a junior suite in the original building and loved it. Be sure to get breakfast included. Outstanding food, wide selection, lovely setting and a great value. "Unique Experience - Incredible History"
This hotel is truly a unique experience and a beautiful piece of paradise, although it may be a little too relaxed for it's own good. The service was acceptable, although suffered in comparison to the 5-star location. For example, multiple calls to the front desk to bring up our bags went unanswered. When I went to the front desk to see what the issue […] was, the lobby was empty and staff were just sitting there doing nothing in particular. The beach-side restaurant service was the slowest I've ever experienced, although the staff was friendly. Reviews of the food were mixed. I think that the great mood that most people experience when they get off the plane in Hawaii has led this hotel to take advantage of that and deliver sub-standard attention to their guests, who are more likely to suffer through it and get on to the good part - the beaches, shops and bars of Waikiki. "Best Aloha"
The Original Pink Hotel has been refurbished, and it is grand. All of the employees, from the concierege to the cleaning crew, are wonderfully friendly and very helpful. If you want to be in the center of Waikiki, this does it. Last day was May Day - and May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii. We were treated to a trio of Hawaiian singers playing ukuleles, with […] locals arriving for a special day - everyone wearing beautiful leis and greeting others like family. The Mai Tai Bar doesn't have the best mai tais on the island, but the staff were friendly and happy, and they made you feel welcome. "Best of Both Worlds"
Stayed in the Oceanfront Tower. Room was recently renovated, and was beautiful. Stunning view of Waikiki and Diamond Head. Steps to sand and water. It sits right in the heart of Waikiki shopping. You get an amazing beach, upscale walking, shopping and restaurants. If you walk one block in there are great cheap eats everywhere, Starbucks, fast food, […] local flavor. You really don't need a car. You can use the pools at the Sheraton right next door, which are amazing as well. Greeted with fresh leis as we arrived and served cool passion fruit juice while we registered put us in a perfect mood for enjoying stay at this grand landmark hotel. "Great Waikiki Hotel"
The Royal Hawaiian was great. We were able to check in several hours early and they upgraded us to the Tower for our one night stay (otherwise, it would have been a standard 3pm check in. The room was amazing. the sliding door to the balcony was perhaps five feet so it felt, smelled and sounded like the room was part of the beach. The balcony was quite […] spacious. The room was well appointed and clean. They allowed us to look at the two rooms that were available at 9am (versus our reserved room available at 3pm). That was a huge plus. We realized that the Tower was perfect for our needs. They also offered a lounge on the second floor for us to wait if we didn't check in until later. It had Internet, showers, etc. We ultimately didn't use it but it would have made the wait tolerable if we had waited. The daily resort charge was the most annoying thing. I had thought it was part of the prepaid package but it was an additional fee. It entitled us to two free drinks (that we paid $20 to upgrade to drinks with booze) and free glacial-speed internet. (We mostly used our mobile phones which were speedier than the wired connection provided by the hotel as part of the fee). The two bottles of complimentary water were a no show (but we didn't call to request them so partly our fault.) Service was what you would expect at a luxury property. Excellent!
