"Iconic Hawaiian Hotel in the heart of Honolulu"
We just returned from a wonderful stay at the beautiful Pink Lady on the Beach. I do travel allot and I must say the bed was probably one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. Bathrooms are a bit small but nicely furnished. This is to be expected in a hotel built in 1927... The MaiTai Bar offered some great drinks and the live music our […] last night was terrific. Overall experience was really wonderful- centrally located, old world elegance and beautiful beach just outside your door. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Great location for busy Waikiki beach. Established location with big open green space and huge Monkey Pod Trees. Great beach front very friendly staff.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Never wanted to leave"
Loved every part of it. Checked in around midnight, greeted well from staff. Room was turned down, ready to go. Staff always friendly and at your needs. They do a lot of little things, bring you stuff from the bakery, complimentary drinks at the beach and always chocolates at night. Conveniently located to all and any kind of shopping, restaurants and […] bars. It is well worth the price. Will stay again if we get back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful historic beachfront hotel"
The beach property that the hotel owns is fantastic. The real shame is the eyesore of a shopping mall which blocks the grand entrance to such a historic and beautiful hotel. We had three great days on the beach. Thank goodness the hotel offers lounge chair & umbrella rentals, it gets hot! Very shallow water for 100 plus yards out with fun waves for […] kids. The pool area is extremely small. Restaurants on site are nice, and they allow room charges at two nearby hotels which was a plus. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful, expensive view"
My wife and I visited Hawaii or the first time 2 years ago and stayed at another hotel down the beach. We found the Royal Hawaiian during one of our walks and fell in love with it. The facility is very open and inviting, and we enjoyed rocking in the rocking chairs on the large deck overlooking the beautiful gardens, imagining what it would be like […] to stay there someday. My work had a conference in Honolulu this month, so we decided to go for it. Fortunately, we got much of it paid by credit card miles, though as my son noted, if we had not spent all those miles on the hotel we could have bought a car. So it was VERY expensive. The place was as we had imagined it, pretty magical in its beauty, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. When we checked in we were given a room on the 3rd floor with a view of palm trees next to the pool, which obscured most of any ocean view that we had paid dearly for. We talked to the front desk and by the next afternoon were moved to a room on the 7th floor with a glorious view. Our only complaints would be the room never really got humidity-free, and while it was passable, it always had that slightly damp feeling about it. That and did I already mention the cost. "Crown Jewel of Luxury Hotels"
From the moment of arrival to the moment of departure, the Royal Hawaiian provided a special hotel experience. Greeted by a very friendly bell staff, guests are immediately taken to a hotel agent for checkin at a private desk, where they are given leis of flowers or Kona nuts and a lovely lemon tea. Throughout our stay, the staff seemed genuinely friendly […] and courteous. They were responsive to each request we made. The ample public spaces are elegant, well appointed, and exude a regal ambience. Right on the beach, the ocean views are spectacular. Our room was attractive, clean, comfortable, and pleasant. The bathroom was larger than many hotel bathrooms and had recently been updated. The hotel was in walking distance to great shops, restaurants, and the ocean. I have been a guest at luxury hotels all over the world. This was one of the very best. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Quiet room away from the Waikiki street noise."
Beautiful hotel. Our room was a little on the small size. The table was too small and has only 2 chairs. There were 4 of us. The sheets and pillowcases has stains on them. I would recommend this hotel to friends who wants a quiet room but close to the beach and shops on the Waikiki area.Genuine Expedia guest review
Nostalgic Hotel setting, quiet and always clean. Staff is great and ready to accommodate your requests. The RH beach is great, clean, lots of activities to do right in your back yard, and it is centrally located to shopping and restaurants. We should have stayed for a longer period and visited the other islands, there are so many things to do and enjoy. […] Next time!!!!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Beautiful hotel right on the beach! The room was gorgeous and the staff was great. Luxurious feel. Almost 1000.00 in charges at checkout though.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice property with premium location"
Wonderful hotel location, best asset. Really friendly staff and good quality of restaurants. Pool too small but with access to Sheraton right next door. Outrageously overpriced cabanas at the tiny pool. Very expensive for 2 lounge chairs and umbrella at the beach.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Private beach. Very friendly!"
Had a blast. Has a boutique feel and private beach was great.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great staff ..... OVERPRICED FOOD"
Says it all. $100 USD for breakfast for two adults (both kids "free"). For example a slice and a half of french toast is $20 .... A quarter slice of papaya ....$14. Understand resort pricing and may be the same elsewhere but while hotel is nice, its not Four Season nice.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Luxury right on the beach"
The location was excellent, right on the beach. Staff was very friendly - I think they cleaned our room multiple times a day. The best thing (even is small, we loved it) was when they brought us free banana nut mini muffins on our first day there. Wish they did that every day. Also, I wished the morning coffee service lasted a little longer. They only […] serve free coffe until 9am, and considering many people are on vacation and sleeping in, it would be nice to extend that by a couple of hours. Also, this hotel is right in the middle of all of a very busy beach and the shopping mall surrounds it, so if you want more privacy and a serene, quiet vacation, this is not it. All in all, we enjoyed our stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful but very expensive!"
This resort is very beautiful and the staff is exceptional. But be prepared to pay double if not triple for meals and drinks here. You'll also have to pay $30-$40 a day if you want to sit on lounge chairs on the beach. Also their luau seemed very over priced, $165 a person, we did not attend but could see the interttainment from the bar, it didn't seems […] so great. The pool was so small you could never find a spot, there was a bigger pool next door that we also had acsess to but it was also small. The layout just seemed bad and uncomfortable. "First rate hotel located right on Waikiki Beach"
We enjoyed the true luxary beach experience at the Royal Hawaiian. Although this is an old hotel the rooms are completely modern and luxurious. Besides the beach, my family enjoyed the pools, restaurants and spa. This was the perfect place for my husband and I to celebrate our 50th anniversary.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A nice hotel close to the beach"
Convenient valet parking. Best location - close to shops, restaurants, and beach. Nice hospitality room, which made the overall experience very positiveGenuine Expedia guest review
"Would definitely go back!"
Excellent staff. Beautiful historical property, yet renovated with a modern flair while still preserving the hotel's historical integrity. Right in the middle of everything! Has it's own private beach. Couldn't have asked for a better experience our first time on Oahu.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Romantic hotel on Waikiki"
We stay at the Royal Hawaiian every time we visit Honolulu. It has a beautiful, romantic setting. That being said, we were disappointed this time that we were expected to pay $40 - $50 for guest "experiences" such as two chaises and an umbrella on the beach. We will return to this location for the other great features, such as a wonderful restaurant, […] the old-time feel and the wonderful views. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"I'm used to the Maui 4 Seasons"
I booked this trip late and there weren't good airline options for Mauii, so I gave Honolulu a try. Based on Expedia's ratings, I selected The Royal Hawaiian. It was just ok (using Grand Wailea and 4 Seasons as my baseline). There is one pool at the resort and it is in shade all day due to trees. The pool is very small - i'd say 30' diameter circle. […] However, there is an agreement with the Sheraton next door, so if you are willing to walk a few minutes, you will have access to a larger pool setting. At the Sheraton, there are a couple pools joined together by a few small slides. The slides were good for the kids (ages 6, 11 and 13) for about 2 rides each. There was very limited seating, unless you are willing to rent a chair or cabana. The beach was nice, and just steps from the hotel. If you are interested, there are boards to rent, and it looked like there were a couple evening cruise options leaving immediately in front of the hotel. There was 1 restaurant - and it was fine. The breakfast portions were surprisingly small off the kids menu -- even my 6 year old was still hungry after eating. All in, this place was just ok, but no more than a 3 star in my book. "Historic Honolulu on the best Waikiki beach spot"
LOVED this hotel - it was beautiful and the service was impeccable. The rooms are a little smaller than say a Marriott or Starwood resort, but there is plenty of space. "Nice hotel. Very pretty."
The place was very pretty and nice. It was expensive and they charged an additional $37.00 per night fee per room, which I understand part of that fee was for vallet parking if you had a car. The one thing that dissapointed me was the beach chairs rental. You could pay $40.00 a day right behind the restraunt, or for $50.00 a day to be right on the water. […] You would think that a luxurious hotel would provide you with beach chairs. Last year we stayed at the Ritz Carlton in the Virgin Islands, in which that was one of the things that they furnished, and every other place I have stayed from a 4 - 5 star hotel this has always been furnished. We ended up spending more time at the pool than on the beach, they did provide chairs around the pool side. You go to these places to be on the beach, so that was a dissapointment, other than that the hotel was nice and everything was within walking distance. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Worth every penny"
They got all the little extras just right from the lei greeting to seated check in to little smoothie samples throughout the day. Everyone treated us like royalty. The facility is a unique, beautiful oasis in the middle of bustling Waikiki. We can't wait to get back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Royal Hawaiian, historical luxury"
A luxury experience. One of the two first Waikiki hotels, built in the 1920's. Wonderful historical photos on the walls and artifacts in cabinets. Took the historical tour and it was full of the early days of Waikiki, the Royal and it's guests. The resort fee included self parking, though you can delight in walking on the beach and shopping, restauranting […] if you like. Staff was very friendly and truly treated us with aloha. Pricy, but we felt we had to stay at this beautiful historical hotel at least once in our lives. Breakfast at the Surf Lanai or a Mai Tai in the afternoon, looking at Diamond Head really close, the iconic Waikiki beach with surfers taking the gentle waves, we had a vey special time. "Elegant hotel - but watch out for nickels & dimes"
Staying at this hotel is a beautiful experience! One of the oldest & grandest in Hawaii, elegantly retored with open-air common spaces, gardens, spacious rooms & high-end stores. The location is perfect if you want to be in the middle of all Waiki has to offer. Despite being located ON waikiki beach itself, when you walk into the hotel property, the […] tranquil lobby and common areas make you feel miles away from the bustle of the beach. The pool is small but well maintained with good service, and jacuzzi. pool seating is complementary but cabanas and beach chairs are available for rent. We enjoyed the Luau on Monday night. Set against the beach at sunset, it is more intimate than the huge luaus we heard about elsewhere. There were no bad views. My only complaint about the hotel is that we were taken by surprise at check in by an additional mandatory charge of $35 per person/ per night for "guest services" - which essentially included no additional services. It felt a little like we were being "nickel and dimed" after paying for a very high end hotel. I would have preferred just knowing the actual price of the room when we booked. Staying at this beautiful hotel may be worth the extra cost, but it is certainly not a pleasant surprise for anyone trying to relax - or stay on budget - for their vacation. "The Royal Experience"
We had another great stay at this incredible hotel. The beach experience is one of the things that draw us back to The Royal Hawaiian hotel. Chuck and his staff are always accommodating and make sure we are seated in the nice chaise chairs with an umbrella that allows us to escape the sun when needed. It is relaxing and the view is outstanding. The […] entire staff at The Royal Hawaiian is friendly and accommodating. From the moment we pull up at the front steps, to the moment we leave we are treated very special. Carol and Evelyn in housekeeping are always there to great us and make sure we feel like family. "Hotel's Concept of Luxury is Outdated"
This luxury collection hotel does not really live up to today's standards of luxury. The beds are not great, the rooms pretty basic, and the service mentality is extremely lacking. Everyone seems a little bothered by requests, eager to clear everything with the invisible manager. We received four phone calls about our check out time, were questioned […] about who gave us what information as though we were being dishonest, and I finally had to get a little bit assertive to get them to stop hassling us on our last day of vacation after spending $700 a night for three nights, and dropping another $1000 in food, beverage and beach services. There was very little recognition of guests, little personalized service, mismarketed beach services (ie no alcohol allowed on the "private beach" and the "beach boy" told us that it's really best to order take out food from the hotel bar as the pool guests are given priority). Halekalani would be a better consideration, especially since private beach chair/umbrella services are available on Waikiki. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Romantic old hotel on Wakiki Beach"
The hotel is well restored and the rooms nicely renovated however (we stayed in the old original hotel on a 4th floor with an ocean view although a limited one). The room sizes are a little small by today's standards and I am comparing it with a Ritz Carlton or a 4 Seasons room size. The bathroom is extremely small with virtually no counter space or […] storage space and only one sink and a small one at that. When I pay these prices I expect a large bathroom and 2 sinks especially when at the beach so at least 2 persons can get ready say for dinner at the same time. There is however a nice sized walk in closet with a door. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We LOVED this hotel. They greeted my son and I with leis, checked us in quickly, and gave us a good map of the property and Waikiki. "Nicer than this young couple needed"
Generally great, though I think we could have dealt with a less prime location (being a young couple with no kids). Didn't notice the $35 daily fee on top of the price (for gym and Internet, basically—you have no choice), plus steep rental fees for the beachfront chairs on top of that. Room service was good but expensive, too. I guess all that is to […] be expected. On the plus side, the bed was CRAZY comfortable, good TV with good channels, room was clean and the right temperature, they gave lots of towels and free bottled water and banana bread. Bar is pretty great, with a live band at night. Hotel staff was super nice and helpful, and free coffee in the morning was a plus. Oh, kind of weird: no minibar! "Overpriced but a great experience"
The hotel ambiance is wonderful and the location is the best in Honolulu. Walking down the opulent foyer toward the beach or a cocktail at night overlooking the water was a great experience to remember. The hotel is beautiful and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was on the small side tho. We also had requested an ocean front with balcony, and we were put on the 3rd floor, just eye level with the palm trees around the pool, wish we were up a few floors more to see more of the view. Also, our air conditioner leaked and they responded […] immediately, but then our room smelled musty and mildewy the rest of the time. Good thing we were not in the room most of the time. "Fine, Not Worth It"
The hotel is fine, but just does not deserve its ranking or status. Hotel grounds and interior were beautiful. Staff was friendly and helpful. Checkout was at 12 o'clock and our plane didn't leave till evening.
