Our recent 1 night stay at Kona Seaside was very pleasant & comfortable. I had forgotton my shirt in the closet at Hilo Seaside Hotel the night before. Nani assisted & contacted Hilo Seaside who retrieved the shirt. She was very helpful in coordinating with the Hilo Seaside staff to have my shirt returned to me. The professionalism & caring is great & our future bookings will always be there at Kona Seaside.
"Enjoyed the stay"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 14, 2012
The hotel was nice and had a good location but as far as parking is concerned there was nearly none. But the good thing was that they provided a discount for the paid parking across the street, only $5 for 24 hours, better than some others. The bed was not comfortable and a couple of other little things but we are easy to please and for the price I would stay again.
"Feedback for hotels.com"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Dec 4, 2011
Information provided at the time of reservation is incorrect by hotels.com agent. It spoiled the expectations of planned personal event. Hotels.com needs to be more clearer and transparent in knowing and sharing information to customers. Coming to the property review, only very few condomeniums on Wyndham have "partial" ocean views and they not have complete ocean views or ocean front views. The features and amenities of the room are very good and customer service is "excellent".. if ocean views and ocean front is not requirements this is very good place to stay
"Just okay..."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Dec 22, 2010
The setting of this resort is exceptional and beautiful: Polynesian bungalows, black sand beach with clear water to enjoy activities such as paddling, canoeing,...The atmosphere was relaxed (no electronic devices allowed on site) and there were many beautiful birds everywhere. The only downside was a few moody ladies at the reception (which we tried to avoid as much as we could), the food quality (expensive, small portion, and not very good overall), and the lack of privacy with the bathroom in our bungalow (only a short wall separates it from the room). I would not go back to this resort because it felt too much like a vacation village for large wealthy families, it was too isolated (which makes it nearly impossible to avoid the on site food), and the quality-price was not justified.
"No breakfast just coffee"Reviewed by Raj R of "Las Vegas" on Dec 3, 2009
The hotel is located a very convenient location...getting to the Waipio valley as well as Kohala coast is easy from here..Waimea itself is also a very picturesque place...the hotel is near the foothills of green valleys giving an impression of an English countryside. Not many people stay here...which you may or may not like. The room was spacious, well furnished and comfortable. There was free internet access near the lodge office. The only odd thing during our stay was although we were told about a complimentary breakfast it was just coffee...that was annoying.

Luxury resorts, sprawling golf courses, and white sands line the Kohala Coast – Waikoloa. Hawaii’s sunniest coast is a must-go for beachgoers. It is also known as the cradle to King Kamehameha, Hawaii’s greatest king. His influence can be seen at the nearby Pu’ukohola Heiau National Historic Site, where visitors can see the temple of war he built before unifying the Hawaiian Islands.
see all hotels in Hawaii (The Big Island)"Very expensive Hotel"
I had booked the partial ocean view room and I was not happy with the view. We called up the front desk to give us another room and while they were accomodating, the view in the second room wasnt great either. The ocean was too far and we had to crane our necks out on the patio above all the trees to catch a glimpse of the water. For the money that […] I paid for this room, I feel like I was cheated. The hotel is very big so be prepared to walk a good distance to get to the pool and laguna. Everything is very expensive especially food and drinks. Read more
"extra charges"
For a hotel that is expensive charging for the parking is ridiculous, especially when they have such a large piece of property. Also the fees for beach rental equipment was higher than we expected. The first time in a few years at a nice hotel we did not have free wifi in our room. We felt we were nickeled and dimed, which has left a bad taste
"Staff was top star"
People at hotel constantly we available to please. Super knowledge of what was available to do.
"Fairmont Orchid on the Big Island."
My wife and I and our 2 older children ages 24 and 20 spent last week at the Fairmont Orchid on the Kohala Coast on the Big Island. Our experience there was fantastic with great service, the outstanding food, and the views of the ocean were idilic. It looked like a picture postcard from our room. We had a oceanfront room with a view overlooking the […] beach, and the kids had an oceanview room overlooking the hotel. We did many day trips around the island to the top of Mauna Kea (90 minutes), Kona (40 minutes), Hilo (90 minutes), so having a car was invaluable and saved us a ton of money compared to paying companies to pick us up and take us around the island. The roads are excellent (except on the top of Mauna Kea where a 4-wheel drive is recommended but we still did it) and easy to navigate. We have been to all the Hawaiian islands, and this is our favorite one, and our favorite hotel. Read more

Fabuous hotel. Very nice without being too formal. Lots of fun things for kids to do. Lovely setting, very helpful staff. Good food, but pricey, not surprisingly.
"The Orchid is a great choice !!"
Having booked a great rate on Hotels.com, we just returned from a fabulous vacation at The Fairmont Orchid and HIGHLY recommend this hotel to everyone...we booked a Fairmont Gold room and loved the incredible views from the 6th floor and the complementary Gold lounge was terrific all day long. You won't go wrong with the Orchid !!

"Great overall stay"
Stayed 3 nights. Beautiful hotel. Browns restaurant is very good but pricey. Beach restaurant good but nothing special. Limited food choices overall, for example they should have a coffee shop with light breakfast foods on the property. There is one about a mile away in the shopping center. Had breakfast buffet one morning for ~31$. Beautiful grounds. […] Secluded area. Peaceful place, other than the kids by the pool area. Took a yoga class by the beach and a trip to the spa. About 30 minutes north of kona-area, so need a car if you wish to go elsewhere. Read more
"Fairmont Orchid on the big Island of Hawaii"
What we liked most is the beautiful property and it never seemed crowded. The property is well maintained with a fantastic pool area and beach area with snorkeling. Turtles were everywhere. The property has several restaurants and all had good food. There was a shuttle to take you around the property. Didn't golf, but it looked great. Just loved this […] place. Read more

"Oasis in the middle of the lava"
This hotel is very beautiful. The amenities are fantastic and the hotel staff were accommodating, knowledgeable, and helpful. The pools and beaches were picturesque. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to others.
"Fairmont Orchid - Big Island"
Great hotel. Great staff. Great beach with excellent snorkeling right off shore with the sea turtles. Great gym too! The only negative thing I can say is realy that the self parking fee is ridiculous and they charge for wireless internet. They need to get with the times and have free wi fi access like most hotels do these days. Not impressed with bar […] and restaurant prices. Very high but I guess that is to be expected for a luxury resort. Thankfully there is a nice supermarket with reasonable prices not too far away from the hotel where we purchased our drinks and snacks etc. If you rent snorkel gear, dont rent it at the resort. Rent it from snorkel bobs which is in the same shopping area as the supermarket. You can get gear there for the same price for a day as what the hotel charges for an hour. Overall though, we really enjoyed it there and would definitely stay again and recommend this to anyone. Read more

"Fairmont orchid waikoloa"
Great deal! This hotel is nicer than 90 percent of the hotels in Kona or Waikiki.
"Very lovely property"
The Fairmont Orchid is beautiful, and they attend to most all of your desires and needs. The breakfast buffet was quite expensive, so I would recommend the deli next to the pool instead. We enjoyed our stay there and will go there again!

"check your room rate"
We got screwed by the Fairmont Orchid: We booked an ocean view room through Hotels.com, but the place was packed and they put us in a partial ocean view room (with two queen beds, when we had requested a king--they fixed that by moving us the next day, but not the view). Be sure to check that you get what you pay for.
"fabulous hotel with excellent service"
Fabulous hotel in a lovely setting on the Kohala coast. The hotel and grounds are absolutely beautiful, but the staff is what really makes the experience truly 5-star.
"Immaculate setting with top service"
Hotel is immaculate, the staff is incredibly hospitable (and seeing many of the same faces here for years). Beach and pool pristine. Not very close to town but I like that (we rented a car, but they do provide shuttle services). We've been coming back over the past few years.
"Awesome... hotel..."
This is one of the most beautiful properties I have ever been too. not cheap, but everything is excellent to the last detail. Friendly people, wonderful gardens with waterfall, flowers and views, excellent food, great little man made beach great for wading in the water, and for the snorklers, more green turtles than you can count. I cant recommend this […] resort enough. Read more

"Fairmont Orchid - A beautiful hotel, but greedy"
We enjoyed our stay and would stay again. However, the hotel seems to be trying to make up for discounted room prices by charging very high prices for everything else. No one except hotel guests would want to park at the hotel, but self parking is approximately $20 a day. A "breakfast sandwich" currently costs over $20 with tax and tip. Our three person […] lunch bill at the pool was over $100. If you have a car, there are many other better dining options. Read more

"Fairmont Orchid"
Overall, a really nice, aesthetically beautiful property. On the plus side, it's on the sunnier side of the island, the outside spa environments are super, and the pool and the beach are very nice. There are limited dining/entertainment options on-site but there's a grocery store just down the road for things like drinks and such. Which you may find […] yourself unexpectedly needing. The evening we checked in we went to the main full-service restaurant and were told we should have made reservations. They were nice enough about it, but at the same time kind of looking at us like we just landed in a spaceship for not knowing that. We ended up in the Japanese restaurant on-site and had an interesting experience with the "local greens" salad and got some plastic bits in the California Roll. Later, smaller requests for sodas to be sent up to the room were not followed up on by staff. Despite those issues, the staff were generally very friendly and even though it's a bit off the beaten path - 20 or so minutes to the airport and a few more to Kona beyond - it's a comfortable home base from which to explore the island. "Simply Awesome"
This is a first rate property in every way. We loved everything about it. You can pay more to stay in the area but if you do you are wasting your money.
"Lovely Fairmont Orchid, Mauna Lani, Hawaii"
We enjoyed our stay at the Fairmont Orchid on the big island of Hawaii, and highly recommend it to others. The rate we got through hotels.com was very good (booked it a week before our visit) and we had a very nice room with ocean view for three nights. The facilities and grounds were very nice, and the staff very friendly and helpful. The extra $ per […] day for valet parking is worth it when they not only get your car ready, but provide two bottles of water for your day. Brown's restaurant is spendy, as you would expect at a hotel such as that, but the food was excellent and service great. Our only negative was the breakfast we had at the Orchid Court. They sat us at a table that had not been adequately cleaned, and my wife got syrup on her pants from the messy child that had been in her seat. There was also syrup on the table and placemat. I noticed that the servers and bus persons had a dry rag that they wiped the tables off with, and not a wet rag that would actually clean stuff up. The glasses on our table were not clean, and I saw a server cleaning a glass at another table they were cleaning with the same rag they wiped the table with. So avoid breakfast at that part of the hotel, but have a great stay otherwise! Read more
"Phenomenal Tennis Facility & Instruction"
My wife and I are physicians. We checked in very late at night for a medical conference. When I turned on the room lights, two small pests scurried across the bed. I killed them both with my shoe. The night manager moved us from a 1st floor, golf course/partial ocean view to a garden view 2 doors away. I considered this a downgrade and the bathroom […] floor was not clean. That morning I requested an upgrade. We were moved to a second floor golf course/ partial ocean view room - with carpet and a somewhat cleaner bathroom floor. This was hardly what I would consisder an upgrade but my wife did not want to move into a fourth room. Otherwise, this beautiful facility was picturesque and enjoyable. John, the tennis instructor was phenomenal. He dramatically improved my game in just two private lessons. I felt the water sports were limited. The golf courses are immaculate! Read more
"Fairmont Orchid"
This is an absolutely gorgeous hotel! It was like checking into paradise. They really thought of everything down to the last detail. The lagoon was great and we were able to snorkel with sea turtles just outside of the lagoon! The pool and hot tubs were wonderful as well as the beach. The service was impeccable, everyone was extremely nice and helpful. […] The resort is away from all the hussle and bussle of Kona, so that can be a bit of a drive to visit the more happening areas, but I can see that oine wouldn't have to leave the property if they so desired. Just a word, to self park costs money, which we didn't expect, but several hotels charge a parking fee. They have a lot of equipment (snorkel, paddleboard, surfboard, boogie board) to rent, so if you're staying there several days, I'd recommend the package they have. We would definitely stay here again! Read more
"Faily Awesome"
Ths hotel is a bit of an anomoly. Sometimes, the level and quality is above expectations and other times far below. Beautiful resort and room yet, a total of three towels for the two us. Shower jell not replaced on second day. The room was well appointed yet had a useless wine opener. Called three times to have wine opener that worked delivered to the […] room 45 minutes later, it arrived!. Read more
"Wonderful hotel"
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Fairmont Orchid. The service was impeccable, the room was suitably large, and the hotel ground was manicured beautifully. The beach is one of the best in that area. The reef just outside the cove is not matured (mostly rock with occasional corals), but is loaded with fishes and turtles. Saw at least 5 turtles grazing […] in an area of only a few hundreds square feet. One little complain is that the bed was a bit soft for my back. Didn't try the Brown's Beach house restaurant, but Norio's was fantastic. We didn't make a reservation but they were nice to take us on a short notice. The Sashimi was one of the best we've had. Well done, Fairmont Orchid is definitely one of my favorite hotel now. Read more
"Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii - low-key and relaxing"
We stayed 4 nights at the Fairmont, and traveled to a couple of other resorts in the area. Fairmont offered a very high level of polish and professionalism without the Disney-level intensity of the Hilton. Very relaxing, our family of 4 (kids 12 and 15) enjoyed each day. As with all such set-ups, everything is extra (e.g. $15/hr for a snorkel setup […] you could buy 10 minutes away by car for $25), so if you care about stuff like that make sure you have a car to get to the supermarket/shops at Waikola or Waikola Village. We had a lovely experience at the Fairmont Orchid. The resort is beautiful and the lagoon and pool are great! We only ate at Brown's Beach House and weren't impressed with the food (quite bland and overpriced) - but the atmosphere was fantastic. About a mile away is a shopping center with a great juice/smoothie cafe and other restaurants as well as […] a grocery store - so it's easy to get good food close to the hotel. The property is great for jogging and biking (good shoulders on the roads). Sign up for the complimentary President's Club (directly through the hotel's website) and send them an email with your hotels.com reservation and they will update your reservation with your President's Club # - that way you can enjoy a variety of perks including free internet. The staff was great from start to finish. We didn't stay on the Gold Floor but we didn't feel like we were missing out on anything. Already missing watching the sunset from the beach with Maui off in the background to the right.... Read more
"Beautiful hotel, don't pay extra for ocean view"
Geat property and very posh place. But many of the rooms are angled to ocean, so an ocean view is often with stretch of the neck! Work out facility is also really nice.
"Great Hotel - Great Service"
We stayed at the Fairmont recently and loved everything about the hotel except for the part when we left. Great place to stay...very friendly staff.

"Fairmont Orchid"
False advertising. Ocean view rooms are really gsrden. Dont spend the money for the upgrade..
"Great hotel but we got the bunkest room"
the hotel wasn't sold out, felt like it was at best 1/2 full. but we got the bunkest room in the entire place - ground floor facing a shed. the place is HUGE and we were on our honeymoon so even though i wasn't expecting an upgrade, I would have preferred and expected a room with at least a decent courtyard view. our theory is because we paid a low […] rate via hotels.com, couldn't figure out why else they would put us there. that said the property is really great. i would only go there again if i booked an ocean view suite but for that price, i may stay at another resort. After travelling globally for work for 10 years and staying at 5star hotels in many places, I can honestly say the Fairmont Orchid was true paradise. From the the lush landscape, comfortable room, and impeccable service on the Gold Floor (worth every penny) to snorkeling with Hawaiin Sea Turtles every single morning for a week in what seemed like my […] own private cove: this hotel is perfection. Would recommend to anyone who would want what I had the luck to enjoy. Serenity and calm when you need and want it. Great food and the spa was to die for. Read more
"The Orchid Is Nice (but not for kids)"
The Orchid is tranquile hotel. Great for the getaway where the aspirations are to just "veg." If your bringing kids to the big island, this is not the hotel for you. Go to the Waikoloa Hilton (just a few miles south).

"Best 5 star in Kona"
Great service, big rooms, very nice in every way. Food at brown's was as good as everyone says. Pool was not crowded, beach very clean and picturesque. We have stayed at the Grand Wailea Resort many times, but I liked the Orchid better in many ways!
"The Finest Place on the Big Island"
The desk staff, was friendly and helpful, restaurants excellent, maid service in rooms perfect, and the gardens looked like heaven. An Excellent Choice and I would stay there again.
"Elegant Tropical Paradise."
The Orchid is an oasis in the middle of a lava flow. It has it's own beach and rents gear for kayaking, snorkeling, stand up boards. (It is not cheap...$15. per hour for snorkeling gear. For the cheap cost of that equipment, buy your own.) They kind of nickle and dime you to death...if you want to sit on special chairs with a canvas covering, it is […] an extra fee. There are two restaurants on the beach. Browns Beach House and a more casual one, right in the sand. There is a meandering pool, and the landscaping is excellent. Since it was Christmas, it was decorated with pointsettias and lights and trees. Read more
"Beautiful property, lackluster service"
The hotel property is beautiful and access to Mauna Lani Beach Club is convenient. The biggest disappointment is the staff service and quality, especially front desk and bell boys. We arrived and no one asked us to help with luggage. We had to approach someone to help us. The front desk checked us into a room that had limited view and next to noisy […] generator, although the property for not full. When we asked to be moved, they were efficient about that, but I don't know why they didn't bother to check us into a decent room from the get-go. When you're at the beautiful pool or beach, you have to go looking for staff to ask for things like towels, etc. The concierge while friendly, messed up our laua reservation and when we arrived at hte luau, the staff there did not have enough leis and had to quickly setup an extra table - and we paid for premium seating. We stil had a lovely time in HI, but just wished the service lived up to its 4 stars. I'd give the property 4 stars, and the staff 2 stars. Perhaps better staff training in hospitality? Read more
