Overview

Location. The Georgian Merrion hotel is located in Dublin, Ireland, opposite the Museum of Natural History. The hotel is 500 metres from Trinity College and the National Gallery. Grafton Street's shops are 800 metres from the hotel, and Dublin International Airport (DUB) is 13 kilometres away.
Hotel Features. The Merrion hotel occupies four Georgian townhouses dating back to 1760. It was converted into a five-star hotel in 1997, when a sympathetically designed garden wing, marble lobby floor and one of Ireland's finest private art collections were added.

Restaurant Patrick Gilbaud is the Merrion's gourmet restaurant, with high ceilings, modern paintings and English-speaking French staff. Fish features widely on its a la carte menu and its fixed-price menu offers a fusion of French and Irish dishes. The Cellar Restaurant is a semi-formal dining room with white vaulted ceiling and Irish tapestries. It serves cold buffets, cooked-to- order breakfasts and an a la carte lunch and dinner of Irish dishes. The Cellar Bar, in the original wine cellars, is open all day for drinks, upscale lunch and light meals in the evening. Filled with sofas, armchairs, a roaring turf fire in the winter, or terrace seating overlooking the garden in the summer, the Drawing Rooms are a comfortable place to enjoy continental breakfast, snacks, drinks and afternoon tea. No 23 is an intimate residents' lounge with light meals and drinks available any time.

The Merrion's health club has an 18- metre infinity pool, steam room and gym. There are also spa treatments (surcharge) from aromatherapy massages to manicures.

Guestrooms. The Merrion's 142 air- conditioned guestrooms are furnished with white and gilt furniture, and framed prints of Irish scenes and maps. All rooms have wireless Internet access (surcharge), minibars, safes and satellite television. Italian marble bathrooms have separate baths and showers, and designer toiletries.

We stayed one night at the end of a one week trip to Ireland. We were welcomed warmly and found the physical condition of the hotel to be top notch. We got a room upgrade. Our room was beautiful The food is excellent in the restaurant and bar though their in the basement at the far end of the hotel leaves a bit to be desired. Our only major issue is that we had to ask three times to get some non-allergenic pillows. Generally we had a delightful, though all too short stay.

This hotel is expensive but worth every penny. Beautifully done, superbly run, with excellent restaurants and staff. A lovely garden, an underground car park, interior swimming pool and old world elegance. If we had one complaint it would be that they so don't pressure you to leave your table at the restaurants that it is actualkly a little difficult to get a check. This will always be our hotel for future Dublin trips!!

Everyone at the Merrion goes out of their way to be helpful and friendly, moreso than anywhere else we've ever stayed. (Including a few other hotels in this price range) The only shortcoming was the view from our room, which was of the street--we had thought we were booked into a room with a view of the gardens (which are very nice). But this was not such a big issue for us. Whether you stay here or not, check out the Cellar Bar, with its several nooks and small rooms, great places for just a few people to gather.

The Merrion Hotel is superb. I just returned from from a two week holiday to Dublin and Galway (Ireland). My stay at the Merrion Hotel served to make this trip particularly memorable. The Merrion Hotel is understated elegance with an excellent staff and facilities. On the first leg of my trip I stayed for 6 nights. I was informed upon arrival that I was upgraded to a garden view room. This worked well. The room was lovely. The staff was attentive and I had to get used to being called often by name. Lovely. Even when unnamed, the staff was consistently gracious. After a brief stay in Galway (on the west coast of Ireland) I returned to the Merrion Hotel for two nights. This time I was in a standard room in the Garden Wing. Again, the room was excellent. The drawing rooms and artwork throughout the property are lovely. The garden - even on rainy days - was a joy to experience. The Merrion Hotel is ideally situated close to Trinity College, St. Stephen's Green and the National Gallery (which is in the next block). What a wonderful experience. I look forward to my return to Dublin and the Merrion Hotel. -AGM+

I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Merrion. Great location within walking distance to great restaurants, museums, galleries and the University. The hotel staff was exceptional in their diligence to accommodate every whim. The atmosphere was relaxed and charming. The hotel and staff were elegant without being snobby or stuffy. Loved the wood burning fireplaces in the entrance lobby and various other gathering rooms. My favorite bar was in "The Cellar". It was all stone and very warm and cozy. Our room was very quiet and comfortable. Would have preferred a better view but it still had charm even though it was an alley view. The bathroom was beautiful and very clean. The hotel was expensive but we felt it was worth it since it was our first trip to Dublin and we wanted to treat ourselves. We would definitely recommend to a friend and would stay here again.
