"Great Family Stay"
For ski in and ski out convenience this hotel can't be beat. From the moment we arrived at the door until the end of our four day stay the staff was there for our every need. The checked our skiis at the front door, loaded our large bundle of bags and transfered them to our room. The distance to the downtown Whistler stroll is a little far - a 10 minute walk - but hotel shuttles run every 15 minutes. As with other resort properties I've visited the onsite meals, drinks and other services are on the pricy side. Be prepared for possible sticker shock if you eat a lot of meals and have drinks on site. But, the food was always first rate. Fabulous hotel!! Only comment is they use flat bottom bed sheets and they did not stay tucked in at all, I was constantly fighting with the bottom sheet. We found the hotel to be ideally situated at the base of Blackcomb mountain in a quiet setting with only short walk to Whistler mountain. "Very disappointed/ Dirty room"
Location is convenient, close to the lift, but overall I was very disappointed. The hotel is HUGE and felt like an amusement park with all of the kids running around, disorganized staff at the front desk and dated decor. Our room had not been cleaned properly, including hairs in bathtub, stains on comforter (looked like makeup?) and chipped paint throughout. […] I don't require much at a hotel stay, but I do always expect a room to be clean. It should be noted, however, that the housekeeping staff was very receptive and apologetic. They immediately switched our rooms, which was greatly appreciated. Although we were disappointed to find that we couldn't rent an in-room movie later that night, as the hotel's system was down (which we should have been told at check in). Similarly, the wildflower restaurant was underwhelming. Halibut was fine but overpriced for what it was. Excellent service though. The pool area was pretty, but packed with people and loud music. "Extremely upset by the service"
We were very upset that we had to wait for 3 hours past our check in time. We got the keys to our room at 7pm. Our room wasn't ready on time and we were made to wait around in the lobby being told that it should be ready in half an hour. "Nice pool area for this Chateau property"
Our motivation to stay at this property was the Fairmont brand. The past experience has been favorable and the standard of the property was not disappointing. We liked the Fairmont a great deal, but we could see and walked through other similar hotels in lux style that would have served us well, also. The single best feature was the pool area. We had our car when we wanted to venture further then a short walk. The village shops and entertainment, restaurants etc were in the lower village1/2 mile away. Staff were great! The suggestions and tips were very much appreciated and restaurant suggestions excellent! The room was okay. The decor is Europe Chateau, which isn't my first choice being a more modern type decor fan, but certainly pleasant enough. It was spacious with the sofa, chair and king size bed, lots of firm pillows and creature comforts. It wasn't top shelf glam, more like "basic" but adequate. We would not have chosen this property if it wasn't heavily discounted for it was not an outstanding value. The lobby, meeting rooms, pool and property gives one the impression the rooms would have chandeliers etc, but this wasn't the case. Again, basic. The saddest part was leaving the bed. We had the king size bed on the fourth floor. Amazingly comfortable. Concierge was always super helpful. "Will not stay here again...or any other Fairmont"
This hotel is not worth the excessive prices they charge. Everything was over-priced for the quality offered. The concierge was surly and exceedingly unhelpful, the ski lessons (private) were lackluster and ridiculously priced (10X what they pay the actual instructor, so no wonder they don't give their all), the phone and hair dryer were broken when […] I arrived, the fitness room was more like a closet with minimal equipment, and the "heated" indoor/outdoor pool was not, unless you are a penguin. Furthermore, add $13.95 per day for internet connection in the room, when other, less expensive hotels offered free connections. Also, since the Vancouver airport is 60+ miles away, add $30-$35 per night to park your car, even as you pay outrageous prices for your room, lift passes, rentals, and lessons. And the cherry on top - there was an unidentified creature in my room, although it did leave quickly. It obviously thought the accommodations were over-priced, as well. Upon investigation the hotel staff could find no trace of it, of course. For all the hype this hotel received and as highly rated as it is, it was very disappointing overall, and I would highly suggest that you spend your money elsewhere. "Nice but noisy at night"
Hotel is a ten minute walk from the main action in Whistler. As you would expect it is very nicely done in all respects. We ate in the dining room and had an excellent meal with outstanding service. The description was 'The room has a terrace with a Chateau Boulevard view' I don't what they mean by terrace but we had a balconyless window looking out […] onto several pine trees. Not an issue for us as we just wanted a bed for the night. Which brings me to the issue, fundamentally you get a hotel to sleep, if they don't build/maintain it in such a way as to minimise the noise from other people then you don't sleep. We didn't sleep because of the noise being made by the people in the rooms around us. To be fair when we complained about the party in the room to one side of us security came and quietened them for a while. But the other rooms, babies, dogs, and the other stuff people do in their rooms came through loud and clear ( I don't need to draw a picture). I have specifically reviewed the hotels we have stayed in since then, you do hear other people but it i s much more muffled. I gave an overall of 5 because I love how the people at Fairmont are really friendly the moment I literally step my feet until my last day. I didn't stay that long but if I was given a chance to stay longer I would. The room is pretty nice and comfortable; super clean. I don't know if it's normal to pay everything there but that's the only thing I didn't […] like. Hahaha! Especially the water. I love the sauna and the pool. It's actually my first getaway and sleeping in a hotel with friends. Thank you, Fairmont, for giving me the best first time experience at your hotel. "Overpriced, underwhelming rooms"
Thanks for the $250 charge that showed up on my visa without any attempt to contact me to explain your underwhelming room needed to be fumigated. The place stunk when we got there. The lobby and exterior of the hotel are stunning, which is an extreme contrast to the garbage condition of the rooms. In all honesty, the hotel was fine, just ok, but I am […] extremely unhappy that a place as 'distinguished' as the fairmont whistler would sheepishly charge me an outrageous fee for extra cleaning without contacting me to explain why. Furthermore, the over priced room already had an odour of cigarettes that I obviously took the bill for. I'm irritated, there are a plethora of high end hotels in whistler and I urge you to stay anywhere but here. You will be underwhelmed with your room, overcharged, and upset when you leave.
