"Could have been rated higher but only gets 3"
Would have rated the hotel higher except for waitress in Envoy's restaurant - she did not want to be there and we got to experience that. And, parking was 20.00 - which we thought odd, but it was ok - until they reminded us it was 20.00 per night. That is just bad PR. And people attending events for the day get to park free - hhmmmmm. Otherwise rest […] of staff friendly, accommodating and a pleasant place to stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel, unexpected fees"
The hotel was fabulous!! The exterior had me questioning if it was really like the pictures but the inside was absolutely spot on! The interior was stunning however and the hotel had awesome old style elevators. The hotel however had some hidden fees, if you drive there no matter what type of car and are spending the night ( which is the purpose if […] the hotel) parking that car will charge you $20! Not a huge deal but was not brought you my attention when budgeting what my trip would cost. There are also no mini fridges or fridges at all, so if you want one or are use to getting one, it'll cost you extra. Overall great hotel and would recommend, everyone was very friendly, had a free shuddle to downtown which we used to get to and from Summerfest. Hopefully this helps anyone looking for a good review, thank you Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I really enjoyed staying at the hotel, the inside is VERY lovely, but I was a bit turned off by the surrounding neighborhood. We were bothered a few times while sitting in the outdoor area. Too many beggers interrupting my family time, wasn't very pleasant. I would recommend decreasing the parking lot fee. I think people will pay the $20 due to the […] sketchy neighborhood, but even at the Pfister hotel which is in the downtown area, I paid less for parking. "Nice hotel close to all attractions."
Staff was great, the shuttle service was awesome, the Art Deco feel of the entire hotel was very cool.Genuine Expedia guest review
The Ambassador Hotel is an old school art deco building. I liked the charm of the elevator doors with hinges. The room was lovely, and the personal greeting on the TV was nice. I would have liked a heads up that the coffee shop was closing early for the holiday though.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Historic Hotel"
Great hotel with the ambiance of when it was originally built. Only thing I did not like was parking is $20.00 a night. This should be built in the price of the room so there is no sticker shock upon arrival.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Would not stay again"
I was not impressed with the Ambassador Hotel at all and I would not stay there again! Check in staff was rude and not very helpful and the hotel was a lot further from Summerfest/lake than implied.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel with tons of charm"
Hotel is older, but in beautiful condition. Staff is super friendly, helpful, and knowledgable of the city. Food was a 10/10, especially the green eggs and ham!! Will go back when I return to milwaukee!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel with charm"
3 night stay, easy to find. Not far from downtown and offered a free shuttle service to cart you around. Lobby and bar were quite pretty w the original art deco. Had a spacious 2 bed corner room w windows all the way around. Restaurant, cafe, bar and room service avail for convenience. Would definitely stay there again. I had read a complaint re: the […] parking garage had no valet and they felt they had to park on the street. The hotel provides you w a parking voucher which allows you to come and go as you please. "Plenty of space for our group"
Overall we enjoyed the hotel. The art deco style was unique and there is a lot of details put in to decorating the rooms, such as the beautiful pedestal sink and tile work in the bathroom and the retro elevators. The rooms were large; we had two rooms for 9 ladies and we all fit comfortably in 1 room with 2 queens and a pullout and 1 room with a king […] and pullout. There isn't much around the hotel, but it was only a short cab ride away to the some nice areas. The rooms were clean and well maintained. The biggest down side to the rooms was that there was no refrigerator in the room, which I think is a very important amenity. The other issue was the parking garage. First of all it was $20 a night to park at the hotel, which I never saw any mention of anywhere. Second of all, there is a confusing ticket system with the parking garage, you have to keep your original ticket and then put in the ticket from the front desk, but there is no explanation at the gate or on the tickets so you can keep track of which is which and then the front desk was rather rude when we had difficulties. The front desk person was rather condescending and less than helpful. I don't get confused easily, but the whole garage experience left me frustrated. The other negative that we noticed was that one of the floors, since our rooms weren't together, had a stale cigarette smell, like it used to be a smoking floor. It wasn't a terrible smell in the rooms, but the hall was not pleasant. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"You'll Be Awakened By Housekeeping"
As a frequent traveler I was very surprised to be awakened by housekeeping vacuuming the hallways at 7:20 AM on a Saturday morning. When I called the front desk they told me this was "standard procedure". I've stayed at numerous other hotels on weekends, and have never had this happen. I happened on another guest at breakfast who was also complaining […] about the same issue. I asked a manager who ended up being of no assistance whatsoever, and who had very poor customer service skills. So, I'm writing this to warn other travelers that if you're ok with a very early weekend wake up, this hotel may be a fit for you. If you'd like to sleep beyond 7:30 on a weekend, it probably is not. Also parking is $55, some of the highest in Chicago. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Hotel has good location. Room was nice sized. Staff was very nice. Was surprised to be stuck paying $20 to park in addition to room and taxes.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel itself was a very enjoyable experience. The design of the interior was awesome. The entire staff was real friendly and accomodating. I thought the beds were comfortable and I slept real well while I was there. Overall, it was a great experience and I will stay there again in the future.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"One of Our Favorites!"
The Ambassador is a marvelous gem just outside of the main hub of the city. This historical hotel has been renovated to offer all the amenities of a top hotel with spacious rooms, comfortable mattresses, top quality linens and products, and the big screen HD television made us feel as though we were watching a film in the theater. The hotel has the […] original art deco beauty perfectly melded with modern touches throughout, as though stepping into the 1920s, yet keeping one foot in the present. We've stayed there twice, and both times the staff was top notch and helpful. Our first visit was for a quick get-away for our anniversary, and when they discovered that, they upgraded us to a room with a whirlpool bath. This time, we had to wait a little to check in, and although the time really wasn't long at all, they waived our parking fee to thank us for being patient. Nice, unexpected touches. The location of the hotel isn't in an unsafe neighborhood, but not necessarily the downtown thrill, but it is actually much easier to get to anywhere from this hotel than trying to navigate downtown. It is close to the highway, a "hop, skip, and a jump" away from Miller Park, The Domes, and Potowanomi Casino, and a very short drive to the downtown area. We have never needed it, but they also have a free shuttle to take you downtown or to the locations, so you wouldn't need to drive anywhere if you didn't want to. Overall, any chance we get to stay in Milwaukee, this is our first choice. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

I heard that not all hotels charge for parking. But if it was only $20, that's probably reasonable. The free shuttle to the casino did not work. "Comfortable and convenient"
Our room was beautiful and much more than we expected. We had the shuttle take us to Miller Park. It would have been nice to have more shuttles available as lots of the guests were using this service and some had a long wait. Our only disappointment was the breakfast. The Envoy restaurant had loads of seating but only a very limited staff. We needed […] to wait to be seated as the hostess said they were too busy. Only 1 waiter and another lady who was doing dish pickup. 5 tables had customers. I was very disapointed in our stay. We did not have a fitted sheet on our bed, just a plane sheet. When I spoke to the manager about it she could careless. While she did send a house keeper to change our sheets it made me wonder about the cleanliness of the hotel. Also the hotel was runing a shuttle to and from the baseball game, yet with over 100 ppl […] at the hotel that night for the game you would think they would run another shuttle. Nice hotel in a suspect part of town. Close to Downtown and Marquette U. Free shuttle makes a difference for those wanting to get around town without driving including trips to stadium for baseball. That being said don't be fooled by the low offer price. They charge a $20 a night parking fee in a nice and secure ramp. This is not clear and its not like […] you have an option. "A step back in time!"
The thing I liked most about the hotel was the fact that the recently renovated it and brought it back to the original look and feel it had when built in the 30's. It felt very classy. Every employee was very friendly and helpful. One of the big perks we found was that it had a shuttle service. We can in from out of town to see a comedy show at the […] Riverside. Where ever we wanted to go all we had to do was talk to the shuttle service and they'd deliver us. When we were done all we did was call and they'd come get us. This was all included with our hotel stay. It allowed us to enjoy our selves without worrying about getting lost or how much we drank. I would stay there again when I return to Milwaukee. Staff was great. Excluding bathroom the room was fine. Bathroom was extremely cramped and close to unuseable with toilet right next to wall and door. Worse than European bathrooms. At $250 per night inc taxes plus $20 parking surcharge this was very overpriced.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Comfortable getaway for two"
While I wouldn't necessarily give the Ambassador a 4-star rating, it is definitely a very nice place to stay overall. My husband and I are a young military couple (meaning we're always on a tight budget lol) and this was a great deal for us :) The hotel is in the vicinity of Marquette University, but unfortunately abuts the beginnings of the ghetto. […] Being from Los Angeles, it's nothing we aren't used to, but when you see the outside of the building (a tall, slightly rundown brick facade) it can be a bit of a shock. The inside definitely delivers though, and the rooms were clean (albeit beginning to show some signs of aging) and comfortable. The front desk staff was very helpful, so no complaints there. The food was definitely lackluster. Wouldn't order room service if I were you.... especially because there are so many good eats all over the city :) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Enjoy the period aesthetics"
I go here for the lovely period aesthetics especially in the lounge, elevators and dining areas. Everything was very nice- excellent, with one complaint: I was put in a handicap room (I'm not handicapped) without being told in advance or at check-in. I'm tall and the handicap showers are very uncomfortable, also the handicap room space/flow doesn't […] work for me. I understand they have to rent these rooms, but it should always be explained before hand, otherwise I feel deceived. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice Hotel - Loud Neighbors"
Very nice hotel. I would stay again. The only thing wrong was some excessive party-goers throughout the hotel and specifically on my floor. They went on and on until around 4:30AM. Nice hotel that is a nice experience overall. I believe that the late night party was more of a aberration than an every night deal.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The entire experience was simply ok. The rooms weren't ready (over an hour we waited) at the check in time which was incredibly inconvenient. Luckily, I was there for a bachelor party and did not spend much time at the hotel. Had I been there for any other occasion I feel my view of the hotel would have been worse. "Nice hotel -- BAD NEIGHBORHOOD"
The hotel appears to be a nicely renovated older building. The renovations make for a very pleasant stay. The restaurant and bar are both very nice. The neighborhood is quite questionable. The Hotel.com website lists it as a downtown hotel -- it is not downtown. You can see the downtown skyline from the hotel, but its a ways off. Also, when I checked […] I learned that there is a $20/night parking charge which was not indicated when I made the reservation. For those interested in staying in the same neighborhood where the infamous serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer lived.... you might enjoy the neighborhood just fine. That's right, he lived exactly 1 mile from the Ambassador Hotel... kind of creepy. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Ambassador Hotel-Close to Miller Park"
Stayed in MKE for opening day at Miller Park. The Ambassador was our choice. It has a lot of history and is very charming, however is in a slightly "rough" neighborhood despite being so close to Marquette University. We were able to check in early, which was very convienient. . The only thing that turned me off was that the bathroom toilet had not been […] cleaned properly and there was a big stain on the side of the mattress and a stain on the wallpaper. They had a free shuttle (however it was late picking us up). After the game, we came back to the hotel for drinks and dinner in the pub. The bartender Andrew was very inattentive. We had to wait 20 minutes to be served and had to actually ask for drinks, when there were only approx. 14 people in the bar. We had to ask for a menu, in which he replied "you only have 18 minutes left to order." I also had to ask for refills on our drinks which had been empty for quite some time. He kept his back turned to us the majority of the time, stapling papers and doing other paperwork, never checking on us.We nicely confonted him about his poor service, in which he replied "sorry and thanks for letting me know." If i had a customer who was unsatisfied, I'd get my manager or supervisor who had the authority to right my wrong. At least a round of drinks would've been decent. Despite the poor service, the food and drinks were tasty. We had to pay $20 for overnight parking in the garage. It would've been nice if this was included in our stay. "everything was great other than cable and loud"
The rooms were super clean and spacious. Great customer service! However the cable went out multiple times to the point that basically we couldn't even watch tv and we could hear everything in the room next to us. "Not what I expected"
Room key didn't work multiple times, sheets didn't fit bed so at one point I was sleeping on a bare mattress-- and there was no hot water when I took a shower in the morning -- for about an hour, no hot water. I definitely won't stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
