"Nice neighborhood, close to Central Park"
I would choose a bigger room and keep the a/c on continuous as it was very noisy. Our bed was small and room was tiny but you get what you pay for. Pay a little more for a little more comfort...all in all Iit is in a great neighborhood, train right there, good places to est nearby and close to Central Park.Genuine Expedia guest review
I enjoyed my stay at the Hotel Newton. It was priced right ($99 for my first night), located in a part of the city that was easy to access (by subway) with great restaurants in walking distance, and the hotel staff and accommodations that were warm, friendly and inviting. I would stay again!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel, clean, within walking distance of many"
I was happy with this hotel. It was clean, no signs of bed bugs (I looked!), friendly staff. It's an older hotel with one slow, small elevator, but classy (though my daughter thought the old hallways looked like they were from The Shining. I guess it's a good thing I never watched the whole movie..no problems in that department!). I had a room with a […] private bathroom, (can't stand the idea of sharing a bathroom, sorry..). It was decent-sized by NY standards. I saw some of the other rooms that had 2 beds in them, looked very nice. I will stay here again! Be sure to tell the taxi drivers that the hotel is at the intersection of 95th St. and Broadway (on the west side), or they'll have no idea where it is.. and don't get suckered into taking anything but the yellow taxis from the airport. I was hustled out of the taxi line into one of those black "taxis", with several other passengers. The driver got lost and took over 2 hours to get to my hotel; plus, I found out later that they have no insurance, so if there's an accident, you're out of luck.. just a little FYI! oh, you might want to take ear plugs along. the window air conditioning unit and the room refrig got a little loud.... "Accessible To Everything You Need"
Spent the July 4th weekend in NYC with the family. Found Hotel Newton on line for a reasonable price for the long weekend. Was upgraded to a bigger room for the same price. The room was on the quiet side of the hotel, clean w/ a new bathroom. Staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Easy access to the MTA, near by restaurants and shops. "Nice hotel, accommodating staff"
Excellent location, right next to a subway stop. Close to the Central Park . Shopping, food, and drink nearby for self-catering. The price is reasonable for the location, with friendly and accomodating staff (they upgraded our room for free when we mistakenly booked the wrong kind of room).Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good place in Central Park West area"
Older hotel in good condition. Staff smart and helpful. Seems to be filled most times, which is a good sign. Elevators slow at times, but stairs are right there. This is not the Ritz, but for our budget this has been a wonderful find.Genuine Expedia guest review
"a nice place"
I was very pleased with this. Neighborhood is a bit dicey but convenient to my needs. But the room, staff and service was all wonderful, esp. for the price. I will stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very close to 3 line's subways, 24 hour opening grocery and fast food. Room facilities look nice. We all three families felt good during the stayGenuine Expedia guest review
"disgusting shared restroom"
I had to share the restroom with some disgusting guests so I will not go back there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
When I made my reservation I made it for two people, but when I arrived I was told I made it for only one person. Not sure if it was the hotel issue or hotels.com... Very small, but expected in NYC. Concierge was very helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"NOISY AIR CONDITIONER"
nICE ROOM, GOOD PRICE, great neighborhood, friendly staff. Unfortunately the air conditioner was so loud we had to drape the curtains over it to muffle it, but that kept it from cooling well. The only elevator broke down one evening about 5 or 6 and it took them a couple of hours to get it back working. My sister whho is 66 and walks with a cane had […] to climb six flights of stairs to get back to the room. Everything else was fine. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Worth what I paid for"
Hotel is old. But, for what we paid, it was definitely worth it. Rooms are actually a pretty good size for New York standards, rooms were very clean and hotel was clean overall. Neighborhood is excellent. Only complaint is that the front desk workers are not very pleasant or helpful. They sure do not make you feel welcome.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great location in a great neighborhood (e.g., shopping, restaurants). Easy location just off Henry Hudson Pkwy.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Terrible hotel and very unpleasant staff."
The hotel newton was the worst hotel I ever stayed at. The helpdesk staff were very unpleasant, mean and arrogant. They didn't offer any help or even try to provide help when we expressed our dissatisfaction with the room. In contrast, they blamed us for booking their hotel and the room they had under special offer. I would rather throw the 650 dollars […] in trash instead of paring for their room. The website displays misleading photos and they deny this fact. The wide clean tidy rooms shown online turned into a tiny 3x3 meters room, with a very noisy old AC that does not really cool until it is turned on for few hours. The room doesn't have a bathroom and still it was too small. This place should be called an inn and doesn't deserve any single star. I will never step in that hotel again and will never recommend it to my friends. Think twice before booking, and choose other hotels or even hostels that can definitely have better service, cleanliness and reputation. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Close to the river and central park"
This hotel gets the 3 star not for its service or accommodation but for the location. This hotel is within 3-4 blocks from the river and park. 96th Uptown Subway station is right at the corner which is awesome! When I booked I saw shared bathroom and thought bathroom is shared between the two rooms I booked. To my horror I found out the bathroom is […] shared among the neighboring rooms as well. 6 rooms shared one bathroom. They don't have any parking lot but had contractual agreement with the adjacent Hertz parking garage. Unfortunately, when I went to park the parking lot was full and the hotel did not take any responsibility for parking. I drove for over an hour to find a spot on the side road. If you are parking off street be sure to read the sign. There are places where the roads are cleaned Mon and Thursday, or Tues and Friday and there are places they clean M-F during specific hours. You also can park infront of the hotel from 10PM-8AM for free (MUNA pay) but they will ticket you $120 if you don't pay after 8 AM. Prior to 8 AM (7.30 AM preferred) you must either move the car or get paid sticker from MUNA machine. The machine is located in the previous block between 93rd-94th street. The elevator was out of service for one afternoon but it was fixed by the time we returned. One of the front desk clerk was very rude and unprofessional and was unwilling to help. Luckily there are others to answer questions I had. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel Newton, Upper West Side, NYC"
We stayed at the Hotel Newton as part of visiting Columbia University. It is on Broadway at about 95th and Columbia is at about 116th. It is a nice walk. Nice neighborhood. It is also convenient in that it's on a subway line. It's an older hotel but in nice condition. Not elegant but a perfectly nice place. The staff was very helpful with directions, […] etc.. We got to the hotel too early to check in and they cheerfully looked after our bags while we went to Columbia and they did their best to let us check in early. The room was decent sized. The bed was big although the mattress was a little hard for my taste. All in all, I was perfectly happy with the Hotel Newton and would gladly stay there again if my daughter decides to attend Columbia. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great hotel-perfect location"
We were visiting our daughter, who lives on 106th street, so it was the perfect walking distance for us between her apt. and the hotel. The hotel staff was friendly, the room was clean and the beds comfy. We would stay there again.Genuine Expedia guest review
No bathroom in the room. Shared with 4 other rooms. It was in my confirmation email but it never occurred to me to check if there was a bathroom in the room. Room also very small, there wasn't a chair due to small space. Overpaid considering what I got for my moneyGenuine Expedia guest review
"Middle of uptown Manhattan"
Room was small and had no view. Shared bathroom. Clean, comfortable, but really not worth the money that was charged.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room was tiny with barely enough room to stretch out but when I arrived they had upgraded from a room with shared bath me to a room with bath. Location was great, steps away from the #1 subway line and a crosstown bus line. I'd stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Moms trip to NYC"
We had a great time in the city. This hotel was perfect for what we were doing. We were out all day and this a perfect re-charging point. Shower was great and the room was very clean.Genuine Expedia guest review
I've stayed there twice, once in a room with two beds and the second time in a room with one bed and a sitting area. The location is great, the price excellent. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and rooms, while not enormous, are comfortable and very reasonably sized, comparable to any mid-range hotel chain. The bathrooms are newly refurbished […] and are equipped with a hairdrier, and the rooms have a large flat screen tv, a small (but by no means tiny) fridge, a microwave, and a coffee pot, very convenient if you're staying several nights or are on a budget. Other hotels I've stayed at in NY charge more for something similar, quite a bit more if the decor is more upscale. For eating, there's the diner next door, a very nice bakery just across on Broadway (the European Bakery), an excellent Peruvian restaurant on 94th and Amsterdam, and the Thai restaurant others have mentioned as well as the Starbucks and the McDonalds. The metro is seconds away and you can walk to the Park and some of the museums. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Terrible mattress, cigarette hole in bedspread"
Stayed in room with queen sized bed. I was excited about finding a less costly option in the upper west side. It would have been a great find, very convenient, EXCEPT that the mattress was absolutely horrible -- sagging, no support, could feel the spring coils.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"New York, Child's College Preview"
The Hotel was in a great location. Close to College Choice's(Columbia/Barnard) yet still close but lot less hustle and bustle of heart of NY. Hotel was very impressive, with door attendant, great lobby, very friendly staff, and impressive room condition. Overnight stay was great, very quiet and relaxing. With Manhattan Diner next door, mealtime was […] very enjoyable, great food and service. The added feature of storage lockers available on check out day was another great feature to allow enjoying the city longer without having to lug along luggage. "Great location and clean room!"
I found the hotel to be in a great location. It is not downtown but the upper Westside. Having said that the subway station is right across the street. So easy to hop on the 1,2 or 3 train and be in Times Square or on Broadway in no time. It was the easiest thing to do. The hotel was helpful with the subway map and giving you directions for stops. There […] is a great diner right next door to the hotel that opens up at 6AM and is open late serving a variety of diner items that were very good and not at all pricey! The room was totally done over. New bathroom, walls and rug. I suggest booking a room with the private bath like we did. It is just more private. The room is small but we were not looking for a dance hall, just a place to chill out and sleep. You don't go to the city to stay in your room. We had a microwave, ref. iron, flat screen TV. My only complaint was you can not control the heat in the room and it was warm. We actually put the a/c on 75 to make it comfortable since it was too warm. The temp outside was only 40. The a/c actually made it comfortable and not drafty or cold. They have only one elevator and sometimes can run slow if a lot of people are using it. I found the hotel very quiet and pleasant. I would certainly stay here again for the location, price and convenience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Excellent value for a hotel in Manhattan."
While on business in New York I needed a reasonably priced hotel in a location that would make it easy to travel by metro around the city. The Hotel Newton was ideal. "Great Value, great service and close to everything"
My friend and I were on a business trip to the city, but we decided to stay a couple of extra days in the city that would not be covered by our business expenses. And we searched everywhere for a reasonable place, and Hotel Newton was recommended by a travel agent from expedia. I was skeptical at first because the first quote he gave me was a little […] high, but I kept checking online and eventually the price went down, and we decided to book it. I had booked a room with a shared bathroom (which I was nervous about) but once we got there, the clerk upgraded us to a room with our own bathroom for no extra charge! It was an old hotel, but completely refurbished, it had nicer accommodations (it actually had a microwave and refrigerator and a nice, clean bathroom) than the "5 star" hotels we had stayed in earlier. The subway station is right next to the hotel, so we could easily go anywhere around the city! I also liked that it was further away from Times Square, since that area can be really sketchy. The neighborhood of Hotel Newton never made us feel uneasy, and I recommend it for anyone, especially young people who aren't familiar with the city. The front clerk was also a huge help with recommending great places to eat and where to get AMAZING donuts! It's all the little things that count, and this hotel has the little, AND the big things going for them! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good reasonable option"
Everything was much better than expected. Exception was the room temp. I assume window air conditioners are installed during the summer months so there was no way to get air circulating except to turn in the heat or to open a window and subject yourself to the street noise. The room did cool down during the wee hours of the night.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Nice room, maintenance people were rude"
The room was great, and the bathroom was surprisingly clean and nice for a shared bathroom. However, the hotel was replacing the televisions and the maintenance people were in and out of our room far too many times. They interrupted a nap, but were rather inefficient about their trips and talked loudly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Helpful staff, great location, nice price"
Overall, room is pretty clean, I booked a single room with a shared bathroom, but got a private bathroom for no extra cost. Great location, right beside the 96st subway station. "Comfortable and in a great location!!"
We stayed here while touring NYC--and it suited our needs perfectly. Comfortable, clean, located within walking distance of many attractions and right next to the subway. I felt very safe both at the hotel and in the surrounding area. Our room had a refrigerator and microwave. The only drawback is that they have central heating, and they kept it warm. […] However after opening the window, we were very comfortable (it was winter). They didn't appear to have air conditioning, so I would inquire about that before staying there in the summer. I would highly suggest staying here. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
