This location was perfect for us. It was just across the street from the subway and easy access to Columbia University where our daughter goes to school. The room was small (but all NYC hotel rooms are!) but clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
it was horrible... when I booked the room it said double bed - I thought it mean two beds not a Double size bed. when I realized the bed size I called about 3 weeks ahead of time and they would not accommodate a change because I booked on Hotel.com - a cot was used but, the room was way to small and we were very uncomfortable the two days we were there.. […] I didn't know we had to share a small bathroom also with others on that floor. Terrible experience. I will never book another hotel room though Hotel.com Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient but disappointing"
It was our (self and wife) first time at the Newton. We stayed two nights. Good Points first: It is very close to transport. Subway express and local station was one short block as were buses and taxis. It was close to what we were in NYC to do. The staff was helpful - the place clean. There was a very good and inexpensive place to get breakfast two […] doors away. Disappointments: We booked five weeks in advance but could not get a room with bathroom. Shared bathroom was at end of hallway. Our room had a small double bed, closet, chest of drawers Micro wave (never used) TV, fridge coffee maker loud window air conditioner that blew right on the bed. and one night table with light. There was no chair of any kind - no table or desk. Only to bed to sit on. The nine story hotel had two chairs and one couch in the lobby. The place appeared pretty full. "Close to everything and all needed transportation"
The hotel was perfect for a short business trip. Room was very clean, hotel staff was friendly and helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Cons; squeaky beds, loud air conditioner, broken coffee pot, no free wifi, website said parking at hotel when in fact it was around the corner a couple blocks down and I had to pay. Pros, clean room, and good customer serviceGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"In a good neighborhood."
The Hotel Newton was recently renovated and very clean. The room was an adequate size but there was only 1 straight back chair so to relax and watch tv you had to lay on the bed. The bathroom was small but brand new. There was a room airconditioner that worked very well. The lobby and stairway had recently been painted. Staff was very pleasant. This […] hotel was located just 1/2 block from the subway. I felt very safe walking to various restaurants and diners in the neighborhood as well as walking to the subway. "expensive one room without bath or toilet."
Prices on Manhattan are very high, so when you pay a good amount of money for a hotel, then don't expect a lot.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room and bathroom a little small but comfortable enough for two average size people. Close to subway and central parkGenuine Expedia guest review
"Decent Value-Could be Better"
This is a decent hotel for the price. I agree with the complaint abou the drapes and AC, though. Not being able to run the AC and keep be sun out at the same time was a real pain, on top of the AC unit being thunderously loud. I also found having to share a bathroom really inconvenient, although the bathroom itself was well-maintained. Probably would […] not stay again, but I think it's still a decent deal for folks who are ok with these types of accommodations. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Room is small. A/C is very noise. Can't run below 60 degree. It was hot. The bathroom is cleaned. Only one elevator for staff and guests, be patient or take stair. Convenient location, it close to sub way 1, 2, 3 substations. One block away to A, C, E sub stations.Genuine Expedia guest review
I have stayed at the Hotel Newton frequently and it is generally a good hotel. This time, however, I was unable to control the temperature in my room and it was uncomfortably hot.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Worked out well for my needs. Rooms are small but the rate was good. I would definitely stay there againGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great upper West Side hotel"
Staff is very friendly, room is very clean. This was my second stay, was very pleased to get a room with a window in the bathroom with a wide windowsill to place all of my toiletries. "Good hotel in upper west side."
Nice, clean hotel. We had a suite with a nice sitting area. The room had been remodeled with granite flooring and counters in the bathroom. Beds were a bit hard, but adequate. On our third night the fire alarm went off. Strange alarm that wasn't terribly loud. We weren't sure what the sound was, but decided to evacuate. Good thing, because it was the […] fire alarm! However, no fire, but very quick response from FDNY. Overall, a comfortable stay in nice hotel with helpful staff. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good for proximity to Columbia/Barnard"
My daughter and I stayed here for one night after dropping my oldest daughter off at college. We had previously stayed at another hotel a few blocks further and we enjoyed this hotel much better. Room was small (as are most NYC rooms) but set up very functionally with a table, microwave, fridge and end table. Room was clean and comfortable and AC and […] hallway noise was minimal. Front desk service was very friendly. An easy 15 minute walk to Columbia or a very easy 5 minute subway ride (station is right out front). Area was safe with plenty of food choices nearby. I would definitely stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"clean but too warm"
Hotel Newton is simple, clean and had nice staff . However, the room was too warm and there are no controls for air conditioning in the room. Restroom down the hall. Great neighborhood.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"I'd come back!"
We arrived way early and staff went out of their way to accommodate us. Our room (405) was a tight fit, but all we did was change clothes and sleep there, so it was fine for us. With AC on fan only the room was completely quiet. Glad I read the fine print in the reviews: I almost took the $129 room but then saw there was a shared bath and thought n […] ot. "free wifi at starbucks across the street."
Disappointed that they charged $4.95 for internet, when I could get it for free at Starbucks across the street. Staff were nice, my room was clean, but sharing a bathroom was gross. It started out clean in the morning, but apparently the some guests using it had no sense of courtesy for everyone else.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good stay at the Newton Hotel"
The Newton Hotel is in a great location. Conveniently located to the subway. Good walk to Harlem and 125th street. Good shopping along the way. The room was clean and staff (Charles) at the front desk was very accommodating. The pricing was quite reasonable. I would recommend the Newton Hotel to family and friends.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good value hotel on Upper West Side"
The hotel room was a reasonable size by NYC standards. The hotel charges for some basic services (luggage storage, internet, etc), but the base rate is low, so this is OK. The bed wasn't particularly comfortable. It served the purpose - a base camp and place to sleep close to my family on the Upper West Side.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We had the junior deluxe suite and it was wonderful. Clean, elegant, and large. The beds were comfortable. We didn't have a view but we weren't there for a view. There is only one elevator and it is slow but it's an old building. The A/C was a little inconvenient because we couldn't close the curtains or we wouldn't get cold air. I think they should […] cut out a hole for the A/C so you can get the air AND close the curtains. It was a wonderful location; close to subway, restaurants, buses, useful shops. A SECRET- you can find free parking on the street between 80 and 95th and around West End Ave and Riverside Pkwy. Just make sure you read the signs and you may have to drive around a bit. I found spaces for 2 cars within 30 minutes and it was free for the whole weekend! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Worst hotel experience"
This hotel some of the room have to share bathroom, it is disgusting to share bathroom with people you don't even know, will not recommend this to anybodyGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I did not like my room. It was rather small and smelled bad. The room size, however was not my issue, my concern was the room smell. The staff was friendly and pleasant.Genuine Expedia guest review
This small hotel was in a wonderful part of town with a lot of activity going on. The staff was wonderful and very friendly and they told us of a great Italian restaurant just a block or 2 away. We also enjoyed the architecture of the 100 yr old building.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Archaic hotel on Broadway"
Hotel Newton is so archaic that you forget this is 2014 and step into a 1940's atmosphere without the original charm. The room is an overpriced shoebox with insufficient ventilation or air conditioning. The corridors to the rooms have a series of heavy old double doors that make hauling luggage impossible and the building is smelly.A key is required […] for the public restroom. There are no eating facilities for practical use such as breakfast. There is a well stocked pharmacy store to purchase frozen breakfast bowls down the street!. There is no parking facility except a couple of extremely expensive garages many blocks away. Even the man at the reception wished he was in London instead. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Easy location, good for easy travel"
Very close to the subway, beautiful neighborhood with a stores and restaurants within one block. Short walk to Central Park, and stored our bags for a day (for a small, rather reasonable fee.) This hotel had everything we needed for a quaint overnight in Manhattan. Only complaint is the room was terribly warm, even with the window AC unit. I traveled to New York on scholarship to visit the Metropolitan Museum. "Nice neighborhood, close to Central Park"
I would choose a bigger room and keep the a/c on continuous as it was very noisy. Our bed was small and room was tiny but you get what you pay for. Pay a little more for a little more comfort...all in all Iit is in a great neighborhood, train right there, good places to est nearby and close to Central Park.Genuine Expedia guest review
I enjoyed my stay at the Hotel Newton. It was priced right ($99 for my first night), located in a part of the city that was easy to access (by subway) with great restaurants in walking distance, and the hotel staff and accommodations that were warm, friendly and inviting. I would stay again!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel, clean, within walking distance of many"
I was happy with this hotel. It was clean, no signs of bed bugs (I looked!), friendly staff. It's an older hotel with one slow, small elevator, but classy (though my daughter thought the old hallways looked like they were from The Shining. I guess it's a good thing I never watched the whole movie..no problems in that department!). I had a room with a […] private bathroom, (can't stand the idea of sharing a bathroom, sorry..). It was decent-sized by NY standards. I saw some of the other rooms that had 2 beds in them, looked very nice. I will stay here again! Be sure to tell the taxi drivers that the hotel is at the intersection of 95th St. and Broadway (on the west side), or they'll have no idea where it is.. and don't get suckered into taking anything but the yellow taxis from the airport. I was hustled out of the taxi line into one of those black "taxis", with several other passengers. The driver got lost and took over 2 hours to get to my hotel; plus, I found out later that they have no insurance, so if there's an accident, you're out of luck.. just a little FYI! oh, you might want to take ear plugs along. the window air conditioning unit and the room refrig got a little loud.... Spent the July 4th weekend in NYC with the family. Found Hotel Newton on line for a reasonable price for the long weekend. Was upgraded to a bigger room for the same price. "Nice hotel, accommodating staff"
Excellent location, right next to a subway stop. Close to the Central Park . Shopping, food, and drink nearby for self-catering. "Good place in Central Park West area"
Older hotel in good condition. Staff smart and helpful. Seems to be filled most times, which is a good sign. Elevators slow at times, but stairs are right there. This is not the Ritz, but for our budget this has been a wonderful find.Genuine Expedia guest review

"NOISY AIR CONDITIONER"
nICE ROOM, GOOD PRICE, great neighborhood, friendly staff. Unfortunately the air conditioner was so loud we had to drape the curtains over it to muffle it, but that kept it from cooling well. "Worth what I paid for"
Hotel is old. But, for what we paid, it was definitely worth it. Rooms are actually a pretty good size for New York standards, rooms were very clean and hotel was clean overall.
