The beach is beautiful. The rooms are great. The food is amazing. The staff do a great job of learning your name and being very helpful. It can get expensive, but you get what you pay for (in a good way). I'd love to come back.

I have traveled all over the world and have never have experienced some wonderful care & service. I felt like I was home. The staff were so caring and friendly. The hotel was amazingly gorgeous. They have kept the mexican tradition alive in this hotel. They have a lady that comes on a daily basis and makes tortillas for the guests. The food was five star. I can go on and on. Amazing!

We stayed at Maroma Resort and Spa last week and the hotel is everything we had wished for. The most beautiful beach, fantastic rooms and an incredible staff. The only complain (if you can call it that) is that it's difficult to find if you are driving by yourself. Had a great time and hope to go there again sometime!

This is a small resort - only 69 rooms which makes it wonderful if you want a quiet, peaceful getaway amongst gorgeous tropical plantings! The staff is super friendly and at your service. Iguanas cross your path, there are bikes to borrow and the grounds wind around the property and are lovely. There are separate pools that are almost like having your own private swimming hole.

So, I'm writing a review for this resort from a weird point of view. I did not stay here as a guest, but I was on the property when I was shooting a wedding there. I live in the Mayan Riviera and I visit a ton of resorts. This one, for weddings at least - is my new favorite. It's lush, charming and beautiful at every angle. No detail has been overlooked. It's quiet and has a great beach. If you're looking for something like that - it's perfect. I think Belmond Maroma is in a tight race for my favorite resort along with the Mayakoba resorts. I'll be recommending it to my future brides!

"Maroma Resort & Spa is Paradise!"
06/01/15 Anne P Dallas, Texas
The Maroma Resort & Spa is exceptional in every way. The rooms and common areas are beautifully maintained....clean and comfortable with great attention to detail. Every member of the staff is experienced, delightfully attentive but not intrusive, and always happy to fulfill any request. The food is delicious, interesting, and perfectly prepared. And all of this is situated in a most gorgeous setting with exquisite white sand and turquoise water! This was our fifth or sixth trip to the Maroma. We travel fairly frequently, and I have yet to find a more satisfying vacation spot.

My husband and I were married at Belmond Maroma in May, and our experience was nothing short of incredible! The staff was friendly, accommodating and extremely helpful, and each night of our wedding weekend was more picturesque and enjoyable than anything we could have ever hoped for. The food is fantastic, the rooms are beautiful, and the beach is unparalleled. We will continue to recommend Belmond Maroma without hesitation.

"What to Expect at Belmond Maroma Resort Spa Restaurants - Detailed review of Value for Your Peso"
05/24/15 ScottD58 Seattle, WA
This is a 5 star resort complete with 5 star rooms, views, spas, pools and prices, which is why I am only giving this a 4 star review. In my book to be a truly 5 star exceptional property you have to get more than you bargained for, at Maroma you mostly get what you pay for. You'll love this place if you are not budget conscious, but if you’re looking for Mexican Riviera value, you’re better off booking a nearby all-inclusive resort, otherwise the price points of the services beyond the nightly room rate will likely dampen your enthusiasm. I didn’t feel ripped off, but I also didn’t feel like I was taking advantage of the surging US dollar. And I certainly didn’t feel like the staff was trying to work with us to get a “good deal” coming or going to the property, as the staff in our previous hotel did. Belmond’s airport transport service is $90 per person which includes water, big deal. That's way to high for Mexico. I had to make calls on my own to find a transport service with a more reasonable $65 rate per vehicle. For two people that’s a savings of over $100US! BTW, it included bottle water too. Maroma is located in the Mayan jungle along one of the longest beaches in the world. This does not make it one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, it’s wild and still natural and therefore strewn with seaweed. There are daily crews of laborers heaping seashore seaweed into wheel barrels trying to keep beach access clear. It’s a losing battle. It also can be windy here, which means the water can be choppy. It’s great at night as it lulls you to sleep, but it’s not a tranquil swimming lagoon by any stretch of the imagination. That’s where the pools come in handy. If you want tranquil all the pools are wonderful, the staff is attentive, the towel and bar service is great, drinks are reasonable. The spa is also a tranquil respite. Wonderful fruited waters refresh your thirst. The staff here will offer you a sample service, that somewhat feels like a timeshare experience trying to tempt you. Make sure you check the price list before you buy spa services. Let’s just say the Mani/Pedi’s in New York City is a much better deal than here. Now, let’s talk about those ocean view rooms as not all rooms are created equal. This is actually one of the great things about this property, each room is unique and each building is different. I understand this property used to be a private Hacienda until it was bought by Belmond, the same company that manages the Orient Express. They’ve done a beautiful job of reviving its original splendor and the property seems very well managed. We arrived on a Sunday, the day after a wedding, which meant it was still quite busy. We were assigned to room 27 situated directly over the entrance to the outdoor patio restaurant/bar. From our balcony, we frequently found myself waving to someone like Victor the bartender, who we made friends with the night before. This wasn’t quite the private experience we were expecting, so on Monday we asked to be moved. As Monday was not too busy, we toured 3 different rooms in two different buildings. It was good fun and it felt a little like being in an episode of House Hunters International, which room would we choose? We decided to stay in the main building moving over to room 24, it is also overlooks the patio restaurant, but a little less conspicuous. Being directly above the restaurant was very convenient when attending breakfast (served until 11am) which BTW is awesome, especially the freshly made tortillas! For dinner, we ate in one of the two hotel restaurants every night. Going elsewhere seemed like a hassle and taking a taxi anywhere from Maroma is a minimum of about $25 each way. There are a few restaurants off property that you can walk to, as well as a Mayan dinner experience for $125 per person, kind of the Mayan version of a Luau, but it’s just as easy to dine in one of Maroma’s beachside restaurants. There are two restaurant choices, one Mexican, one Mediterranean. They have been awarded Wine Spectators Excellence award many times. They have a large wine list and even offer some Mexican wines (which we enjoyed). Wines start at about $50 a bottle. We also tried some of the creative Mescal cocktails. Mescal has a smoky flavor and we found a cocktail concoctions that we liked. However, the food was very, very bland. We had to keep asking for hot sauce. The staff acted really surprised and informed us that 95% of the people eating there prefer “not spicy”. But, if you're in that 5% of adventurous eaters, you likely will find the options pretty boring. It took us until the third night to finally being offered a "house made hot sauce" that made meet our expectations. Had it not been for that, we’d would have been truly disappointed. Trust me, we were not looking for 5 alarm Mexican spice, we just wanted something more than 1 star on the heat scale. Here are a two good values; the free 9:30am Jungle bike ride and the $40pp Snorkeling trip. We saw these activities as highlights, and April who guided our bike tour, was very informative and fun. She delivered beyond our expectations with information about the area. We also enjoyed the Snorkeling adventure, but it’s not for the faint of heart (or stomach). Great rental gear is provided, but if you are a first time snorkeler, getting started could be a little daunting. Don’t bring a camera (unless it’s waterproof), towel or beach bag because just to get started you have to swim to the boat, which is anchored off-shore. No big deal if you’re an adventurous soul, but it could also be a little intimidating. Once aboard, the boat’s captain takes you on a short 5-10 minute boat ride to a nearby reef. He actually gets in the water with you and guides you throughout your water adventure pointing out eels, skates, etc, in the sea grass. The reef was full of sea life, we saw more than one turtle too, so for $40US, we felt this was the best value of our entire stay! So if you’re still reading this you probably work for Belmond as I see management replies to every review. My advice is to offer a range of options regarding transportation to and from your property, instead of one high fixed price.

LOVED Maroma. it's a fab small resort on a most gorgeous beach. the staff and service was very personal and every person we encountered was lovely. our suite was about 30 feet from the soft white COOL sand. sunrises were an event viewed from our palapa covered balcony. all inclusive meal plan might be good idea because you won't want to leave. it's a bit remote so trips to playa del Carmen or cancun are not that easy. can't wait to go back

Hands down one of the most beautiful and amazing places I've ever had the pleasure of staying. Food was incredible and included a ton of local and regional dishes on the menu, amazing tequila selection along with a knowledgeable staff that was eager to share it with you. They have a friendly little old woman making fresh tortillas for breakfast every morning and she walks around offering fresh quesadillas and tortilla to accompany your breakfast which in addition to what you order, includes fresh local juices, coffee, pastries, fruit, yogurt and granola, toast and homemade tropical jams. The property itself is very intimate and is nestled in the middle of a lush jungle with beautiful fountains and pools everywhere. This place is absolute paradise. I absolutely have to recommend the spa as well. It is pure bliss. I've never felt so pampered from the second I arrived through every activity we took part it. I can't recommend this place enough.

"Awesome resort"
04/21/15 yarny Alamo, California
We recently stayed here for a combination business/pleasure trip. The first half was a group event for my husbands company. The hotel and staff were phenomenal. The events were organized, well staffed with wonderful employees and the food and drinks were excellent. Our room was unbelievable, spacious and inviting. We had an ocean front suite with its own dipping pool (always at about 90 degrees) and a separate workout room. The turndown service was so unique. Candles were lit all over the room, chocolate left every night and our caftans laid out on the bed. It was a perfect end to a perfect day. I cannot say enough about the resort and the staff. One of the best I have ever visited. My only comment to people reading this review, is the resort is isolated from the towns of playa del Carmen and Cancun. Each is a long cab ride from the resort, so if you wasn't "action" this is not the place for you.

This place surprised me to say the least. On driving down the dirt track to its entrance I was not sure what to expect. And then BANG! Paradise beckons. What a great location. Great bars, beach, food, spa and rooms. As good as it gets in this part of the world.

"Excellent stay at Belmond Maroma"

We loved the resort. Though a little remote, it has everything you need for a peaceful stay. Fantastic spa. Lovely restaurant. Great beach and pool areas. We had a couple of problems while we were there but they were dealt with quickly. I wish they had a better kids program offering more activities for our children would have been a plus. The palapa suite was extremely noisy but we were told that was because of the high winds at the time we visited and not normal. Would definitely visit again though.

"On one of the world's renowned most beautiful beaches"
04/14/15 MissD787 Greater London, United Kingdom
Belmond Maroma has 63 rooms, two tennis courts, a fitness centre and a diving centre. This is not an all inclusive hotel, the maximum upgrade meal plan is Full Board. It's very different to all the other all inclusive resorts as this is definitely more quaint and upper class. Wine cellar available with a wide variety and daily themed evenings. They offer the chef table which offers a 5 course menu (this is at an additional surcharge to your dining plan). The master suite has a king sized bed and a separate living area with a kitchenette, a large balcony overlooking the beautiful ocean. These suites also have a separate gym room (a treadmill and a few weights) with a door that leads you up to the roof top to enjoy higher views. The bathroom is huge with two showers (outdoor and indoor), a bathtub/Jacuzzi, separate toilet and his and hers sinks. Outside you have your own personal hot tub/ plunge pool and a hammock. The service here is amazing, you can choose the bedtime scent to help get a good nights sleep and you can order your morning coffee which will be waiting for you outside your room. These suites are located on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor ocean and garden facing. 3 master suites connect to a garden view room which is perfect for families with kids. The garden view rooms have a king bed with a bath/shower in one. Bathrooms are smaller but decent. There are 9 ocean front one bedroom suites, 4 of which are getting renovated to include a kids studio (where the gym is located). Lovely hotel but pricey. Food was great here and staff are wonderful. Would recommend if you're looking for something a bit more exclusive.
