I think the hotel needs to be updated. the lobby looks like its from the 80's. The people behind the counter are dressed less than professional.The rooms are well furnish and totally up dated. The night we stayed they had no heat. Had to ask for a couple of blankets.

It kind of seems run down. There was hair in our bed and the doors seemed to be falling apart. When we went to take a shower there was only ice cold water. Overall I was not impressed and would not want to return.

Only stayed one night. Continental Breakfast was a bowl of fruit. When we stayed last year, the restaurant was open and you could at least purchase the buffet. The only reason we stay there is that it is within walking distance of our destination.

I have read the other reviews of this hotel and went back and forth if I was going to stay here. I decided to give it a shot and booked the room at the last minute. I went through Hotels.com and got the room for $80 all in taxes everything. The hotel is not a high end place at all. It is very dated and you can tell that whoever owns it gave up on it […] a long time ago. The location of this hotel is unbelievable in the middle of downtown. We walked everywhere and where we couldn't the hotel got us a cab. The rooms were very hot and I hate sleeping in the hot but I just cracked a window and it was perfect sleeping weather. The rooms are definitely dated but great for a nights stay. The water was hot, the bed was comfortable, and the people were nice. I will tell you to bring your own towels as the ones they have are very small, and bring pillows as they only give you two but I like my own pillows anyway. I would not spend the $140 a room they want but for $80 it is more then worth it. Happy travels and if you are a hotel snob please do not stay here as it is going to definitely be a bad review from you. Read more

I have stayed at the Avalon on one other occasion. It is a great place to stay since it is right near Gannon university and easy to get to from Mercyhurst Univiersity. The rooms and linens are clean. Just seems a little dark in hallways which could use a little updating. Good place to stay for a quick over night visit.

I will not book at the Avalon again nor will I recommend the Avalon to anyone else. The staff was nonchalant and the drunken traffic from the local bars kept me awake for over an hour and a half. The underground parking lot is small and unsecured.

Great location, particularly well-situated for visitors to Gannon. That said, downtown Erie has struggled during the recession, and the Avalon doesn't appear to have been revamped in some time either.

If you're looking to stay in downtown Erie, The Avalon provides a nice alternative to the higher end hotels downtown. Accommodations within the room were comfortable and the halls were somewhat quiet. Located in the heart of the entertainment district, perimeter noise can be a deal breaker if you are a light sleeper and placed on a lower floor. Overall the hotel was nice. We chose it because of the location. However the bar area was disappointing. We went to the home brewers event and then visited other bars in town. The bar in the hotel reminded me of a home bar, not one that you fine in a downtown hotel.

When we arrived, after spending the day at Hamot waiting for our grandfathers open heart surgery to end, they checked us int o the wrong room and it wasn't even clean.. Unmade bed and dirty towels on the floor.. Once we go it straightened out, 20mins later, we got the room we booked and it was stains on the ceiling, walls and carpet and the heater didn't […] work. We stayed at this hotel during Erie's Barstool Open. We were looking for a cost-efficient hotel that would allow us to walk around and not have to drive. We didn't need a lot of amenities, just somewhere to lay our heads. We got all of this with the Avalon, but unfortunately there were some things that we received that we weren't happy about too. The […] hotel is indeed going through a renovation, but certain areas still look seedy. We had multiple issues with rowdy guests on the second night of our stay, and management did little more than say, 'Shush'. The breakfast was not free; they charged $7 on Sunday morning. The room that my husband and I stayed in was comfortable - Loved the bed! and the temperature was pleasant. My friend, who occupied a room two doors down, alternated between sauna temps (only way the place would heat with the thermostat on) or freezing temps when he was forced to turn it off or roast to death! When we voiced our concerns about the noise at checkout, the girl at the desk basically said, "Oh, that's too bad. Sorry." I get that she probably doesn't make much money, but that is not the way to handle that in order to retain customers. Overall, we got what we paid for, so to speak. I've been to the Avalon years prior and was excited to stay there again because I thought it was very nice the first time. Not so much this time. I saw many signs of age. Chips in wood, rust in shower, old tv, nearly busted remote. However the bed was comfortable and it was handy being downtown.

The hotel was in Downtown Erie. It was an older hotel but was updated and very nice. It was very clean and the staff was friendly. We were there mid-week and it was quiet. Our stay was comfortable and pleasant. The bed was extremely comfortable.

Everything was superb, I only wish they had a pool. Convenience of offstreet parking was nice and staff was more then willing to help. I loved the superior King size bed, it was more then comfortable. It was hard to get up and get to check out on time, I was far to comfortable.

We stayed for 1 night because we attended a concert in downtown Erie and the hotel was located in perfect walking distance of the concert arena and plenty of bars. The hotel lacked a restaurant, apparently it is only open on Fri and Sat night. The breakfast buffet was also lacking, but in reality I did get there at 930 with it shutting down at 10. The room was newly remodeled but the rest of the hotel is in ned of an overhaul. The garage was dark, damp & scary. The lobby & restaurant were clean but a little shabby. But the staff was wonderful, from the front desk to the lounge to the maid service.

Hotel Restaurant that was supposed to have dailey breakfast buffets was closed both days we were there. We had no drive out for breakfast when I had time constraints and planned on eating breakfast the first morning. The second morning, I made alternative plans which is a good thing because it never opened the next day either. I stayed here 3 nights for a family wedding. The room was a sauna - they had shut the air conditioning off for the winter months and had "no way to turn it back on quickly". The room was about 80 degrees when I walked in. I had the windows open the whole time. The white comforter was grossly stained in multiple places with different 'things'. When […] I called the front desk for a replacement I was told she can't leave the front desk and I would have to wait until the morning when the housekeepers would be in. Additionally the sheets and towels had stains on them and the bathtub had the previous guest's bar soap on the soap dish. Ew. The ceiling had a recent major leak leaving the ceiling discolored and sagging above my bed. The wifi signal was weak and spotty coverage in the room. The atomic clock, supposed to update itself automatically, was 3 hours ahead and attempts to reset were unsuccessful. The in room refrigerator froze my bottles of water. The microwave and hair dryer worked fine. The lobby was gorgeous. The breakfast was good. The in house bar was great, when it finally reopened after all the staff were sick. But worst of all was the neighborhood. This hotel appears to be in a rough part of town. Walking anywhere alone is not a good idea. There are seedy elements in every direction from the hotel. THE HOTEL IS OLDER BUT HAS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF. RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DOWN TOWN AREA, SO IT'S WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF A LOT OF ATTRACTIONS. SECOND PROBLEM, THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 63, THE ROOM TEMP ON THE SIXTH FLOOR WAS 80. TALKED TO THE SAME GIRL AT THE DESK, SHE SAID THE AIR WAS CONTROLLED BY THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE, AND WOULDN'T RUN IF THE TEMP. WASN'T OVER 65. For the area we stayed in I would have thought the cleanliness would have been better and the hotel was outdated. For example the lighting was extremely poor in the room and throughout the hotel to hide the numerous imperfections and old, beat up hotel.

I once stayed in a hotel room that had no hot water at all and that was better than this place. Our room never got cleaned, even with the "please clean" sign on the door, the mini bar that use to be there was removed but apparently they didn't bother to fix the remains because there was a big hole were it was. Parking is first come, first serve, which […] means if you get a spot on a night they are doing a wedding reception, do not move your car, because you're the one stuck finding a place to park it. Had an issue with our room - regarding whether it had been actually cleaned or not prior to check in. The hotel staff was nice, but not as apologetic or understanding about it as I expected. For example - I changed my own sheets when they brought us new ones. Never had to do anything like that at any other hotel.
