"Affordable Quickie in NY"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
We had a very good time and the hotel was close to work.

Very nice hotel, within walking distance to subway for access to Manhattan (take the 7 or E and you can get to grand central, times square, penn station). Just a few blocks to local restaraunts. The room was very clean, excellent staff, free shuttle to subway. Overall an excellent place to stay if your touring new york city. One note, if you are considering a "view room" save your money, the view is obstructed by a number of taller buildings (the hotel is only 7 floors). Overall an excellent experience and I would definitely stay again, especially at the rate because of the new hotel discount. If you plan to take a cab from the hotel call one yourself because the service the hotel uses charges a flat rate to specific areas and you can get a cab on your own for cheaper generally.

"European-Like small Hotel"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
comfy bed, nice bathroom, great staff at front desk, wireless access easy, computer in Lobby new and rapid. Parking garage reasonable rate. Great spot nearby:EatIly--check it out for restaurants and goodies to bring home. Only improvement that could be made is quality of towels.
"The Gem may be a Gem"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
It was a nice stay. Only complaints are the size of the double bed rooms and the internet was very off/on. Other than that it was an excellent stay.

Let the West Coast have Hollywood; Broadway’s lights are just as bright, and many screen actors come to the Great White Way to gain acting credibility. Area attractions include Carnegie Hall, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, and the Museum of Modern Art. Resplendent St. Patrick’s Cathedral takes up a block at Fifth and 50th. Once seedy, Times Square now hosts ABC, MTV, and NASDAQ.
see all hotels in New York"Poor quality for surroundings"
Other reviews said rooms are small. I thought it was about average. However there are virtually no amenities. Your heating is old radiators and cooling is a dorm style window air conditioner. The bed was a 1/4" peice of pressboard with a matress on top. The hotel just seems like something from the late 1800s that has had very minor upgrades. For rates […] in the mid 300s there are many other hotels that offer far superior quality. This hotel should be a 2 star at best. Read more

"Overall convenient location and nice experience"
It was a nice spot close to theaters, dining, MOMA, subway - pretty street and good basic room. We were upgraded to mini suite which was very comfortable.
"Great Location Tiny Rooms"
Just got back from a week staying at the Washington Jefferson and we would happily return there. The room was tiny, even by New York standards, but it was clean and in good repair. The staff was friendly and accomodating. There were two inconveniences: no closet for hanging up clothes and no exhaust fan in the bathroom. For the price, though, I'm not […] complaining. Read more

"small rooms but nice"
My daughter and I have stayed here four Aprils in a row. The amount of free floor space in the two-bed rooms, but the room is clean and everything works. Can't beat the location: 8 blocks to Central Park for good morning runs; theater district right out the door; and 9th Avenue has lots of eating venues that are a little cheaper/less crazy than 8th […] or 7th. "good for stop-overs"
Room was a classic NY-tiny (which was fine) and the bathroom was new fixtures and clean, which was great. No temperature control in room, so was a little hot (April), had to sleep with window open; thankfully not too noisy. A very good value.
"The Washington J Hotel is right off Times Square"
I only stayed in this hotel for 1night but i was very satisfied with the hotel accomodations. Thank you!!

"Nice hotel in 51st Street"
This hotel is small but very conveniently located near two subway stops, restaurants, delis, drug stores and walking distance from the Theater District, Times Square, Radio City Music Hall and Rockefeller Center. My only complaint is that the room was very small and there was hardly space to store clothing and other belongings.
"Walk NYC from the Washington Jefferson Hotel"
I like to spend my NYC visits walking to the parks, squares and museums and the central location of WJ is the perfect starting point.

"Great location, great value!"
You cannot beat the location! This hotel is well maintained and clean. The staff are extremely helpful! Be warned however that the rooms are TINY--extremely difficult for 2 people to dress at the same time. Also, there are virtually no surfaces to place toiletries and things on and very little room for clothes. Still I would stay here again.

"Washington Jefferson"
Hotel was very convenient, but the room was even tinier than I guessed after reading other reviews - like an office cubicle. Room was dusty, and the hotel overall needs a clean-up and refurbishment. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, which was a big plus.
"Very Nice Staff, OK rooms"
Bathrooms very clean, room ok (rugs old), bed ok comfort, housekeeping staff is super nice, front desk peeps ok. I'm not sure why this hotel has gotten such high marks bc it's just ok. My room was very small, but, wasn't bad. Nothing to write home about but not terrible either. It was inexpensive and clean, and that was enough.
"Great efficiency hotel"
Modern decor, great location, right price for an overnight stay in heart of mid-town.
"A great value, a great hotel near Broadway"
This is a perfect hotel for spending a vacation near Broadway. We stayed in a standard room with a queen bed; it's small -- but hey, this is NYC. It's clean and comfortable, with a modern bathroom. When there was too much construction noise on the street outside our room, the front desk went out of its way to give us a better room. (the rooms on the […] backside are quieter). The service is top notch and staff is friendly. Something for you to know: if you want the heat turned on or turned off, inform the desk. If you need a/c, if there's not a unit in your room, they will bring you one. It was unseasonably warm while we were there, and the a/c worked great. The hotel wi-fi is free. The location is so convenient if you are going to Broadway shows. An excellent value and good service. We will definitely stay there again and recommend it to you. Read more
"Washington Jefferson Best Location"
Great location, fast check-in, nice room with pristine bathroom, great for a week in the city, great price for what you get, recommended.
"always satisfied"
I am always happy with my stays at this hotel. Efficient, cordial, practical, perfect for a business stay.
"Great Location - Right Price"
Very close to Times Square (we walked everywhere). Good pricing, comfortable, clean rooms. Friendly staff. Only one negative comment is that the room was very small, but we couldn't complain because we booked this last minute and just wanted a place to sleep. Would recommend!
"Washington Jefferson, small and friendly"
Love the location, front desk personnel are helpful. But I had no internet for two days - a huge problem for me having to work. They apologized - and left a phone message and gave me a Starbucks gift card. The rooms are really tiny and could use a freshening with paint and/or new wallpaper. There were marks all over the walls and woodwork. Baths have […] been updated. It's quiet and safe. It's not a great place for families but perfect for business travelers. Beds are comfy but pillows were small and lumpy. Read more
"Awesome location, excellent hotel staff"
This is our third time at the WJ Hotel. We love the location, close to subways and other major NYC sites. The room size is very small, however, after a few days, we adjusted and all was well. The hotel staff are very accommodating. We highly recommend this hotel to those who want a central location for an affordable price.
"Washington Jefferson - Construction Zone"
While the hotel is conveniently located and the staff was very friendly, the city was engaged in night-time street and sewage repair, and the noise level was intollerable. I would recommend a person call to check on whether there's such activities before booking a room.
Rooms are small but clean and the service was excellent. Neighborhood was safe at all hours and near a subway station.

"Best Customer Service"
The rooms are small, but that is normal in most Manhattan hotels. The rooms are clean, fresh, and modern. The only complaint I have is that the mattresses are extra firm. The staff is friendly and provides excellent customer service. I would stay here again.
"Some Like It Hot (but not me)"
First, let me say that I love this hotel and will return. While the room was small, I knew it would be ahead of time and, for the price, it was absolutely perfect. The location is terrific for midtown; close enough to everything while still tucked away on a not-too-busy side street. The room and bathroom were immaculate. The bedding was fresh and white […] and had no flowery smell or starchiness. The down comforter (while it was too hot in the room to use it) was lovely. The single bed was perfectly comfortable. While my room lacked any view — it faced a "courtyard" — it was very quiet, which is important to me when I travel. When I'm in NYC, I'm in my room so little that a view would be wasted on me anyway. The only drawback was that the room was far, far, far too hot (I stayed in mid-February). The heating system is an old forced hot water (I think), and so can't be adjusted in the room. It was also noisy upon coming on or shutting off, but this wasn't much of an issue. I remedied the overheated room problem by opening the window a bit, and then was comfortable enough to sleep. The hotel should add a luggage rack in each room. Because it's so small and has only a small chifferobe for storage, a folding luggage rack for a suitcase would be quite useful. So, all-in-all, I had a lovely stay and look forward to staying there again soon. Read more
"Convenient Location"
Very clean rooms. Great customer service. Good location for Broadway shows and Port Authority.
"WASHINGTON JEFFERSON"
checked into a room with 2 beds...it had a very small bathroom, had to put my carry-on on the chair and my friend put hers on top of the closet and her big suitcase in the closet (no room!) but other than that, i liked it. location was great! 4 nights there and only was in the room to sleep/watch tv at night. had a good stay.

"small but convienent"
hotel is excellently located in the heart of midtown/theater district. Close to all transit trains and bus lines. small rooms and bath but completely renovated with good linens and towels. lighting in the bathroom was inadequate, but moved a desk lamp into the bathroom to see to shave.
"WJ Hotel"
This hotel was what it was. It was a boutique hotel in NYC, near the theater district and Times Square. Very convenient location with lots to see, do, and eat within a short walking distance. The room itself was clean and well maintained. The size was very small, but it did what it was supposed to do. It was a place to sleep and wash up between seeing […] NYC. Once you got used to the size it was fine. My only "issue" was the window looked onto 51st street and it did not do a good job of keeping out noise. It was like the window was open all night. For me, no big deal as I am a hard sleeper, but I can see a light sleeper having a hard time with this. I would recommend this hotel to others, mainly for the location and the staff. Read more
"Convenience"
Great location for the theater district, accessibility to transit and walking distance to Time Square.
"Perfect location for midtown - great neighborhood"
Very clean rooms, window A/C to combat radiator heat. Twin beds & small bathrooom, but everything you need in a hotel room. We were on 6th floor & never heard the fire trucks in front for a fire across the street. Could be inproved with coffee in ther lobby for guests in AM as you have to go out for coffee.
"Washington Jeff on 51st"
room tiny - bathroom even smaller. Sheets were clean, and I could stay again but only at a heavy discount (50%) to other standard hotels

"Great location, will return"
We stayed at the Washington Jeffereson hotel for 4 nights. It is a smaller hotel, but we found it to be perfectly comfortable for two people. It was clean and the water pressure was outstanding. The location was just perfect for our uses- definately in walking distance to theatres, Time Square, Rockefellar Center. It was one block from a subway and […] a Starbucks. There were some restaurants very close, although we didn't try them. There is also a Duane Reede about a block away. The street was mostly quiet and the room was small, but all hotel rooms in the city are. The front door was locked at night and we always found someone at the front desk. There is also a sushi restaurant in the hotel. We will definately stay here again and recommend it to others. Read more
"Excellent location! A great little find."
I really liked my stay here. It is a tremendous location, walkable to everywhere. Here's the not great stuff: The rooms are fairly small, but they work if you're just looking for a place for a quick stay. There is some occasional street noise. Lighting in the room is lacking... it's dim. (But the bathroom was well-lit.). Housekeeping constantly shut […] the light off that was connected to the entry switch leaving me to always enter in the dark. Once I requested my sheets be changed, the card that I been provided to indicate that choice disappeared. Housekeeping isn't great. The good stuff is: Location, location, location. Walk to anything! The bathroom, though small is well-lit, great shower, all-marble, Turkish cotton towels, great products! The bed also was excellent linens. On a comfort scale of 1-10 maybe a 7. (There is better and much worse out there.) All-in-all, I would recommend this Hotel and would consider staying again. However, when I did inquire about additional nights and rates, the front desk didn't seem too invested in return business. I then checked out and into another Hotel. :-) Read more
"Fine"
The rooms are small even by nyc standards but clean and the staff was fine. The fitness room left a bit to be desired but at least had a working treadmill and bike.
"My Favorite Hotel in NYC"
I travel on business to NY regularly, and the WJ is my favorite place to stay. My business would reimburse for higher, but I prefer the small WJ for it's location, personal service and safety. As a female traveling alone, this is very important. The staff is helpful, the hotel is clean, and the location is unbeatable. All rooms are minute in NYC, so […] don't let the room size reviews affect your decision. Plus WJ is very quiet. I'd take tranquility over size any day! Read more
"Deceptive Advertising"
I had considered staying at this hotel a number of times before, and passed up MUCH better hotels to check out a different place and neighborhood on this stay. Apparently there is not much difference between the "Standard" Room and the "Petite" room except the price. Now, I understand that New York Hotel rooms are small, but in probably a dozen visits […] I've never been able to open the door of the room without getting out of bed. When I called the desk to point out that I didn't reserve a "Petite" room, I was told that I got the standard room, and that the extra charge was the difference between a Double and Queen Bed. Silly me. No effort to accomodate me in any way. "Suckah!" Basically I felt duped and won't stay there again. Read more
I was very pleased with this hotel--clean and convenient. Coffee in the room would have been nice, but overall I had a very pleasant stay.
Everything was good except the shower head.
"Review of Washingto and Jefferson"
The location is great, the staff is wonderful. The bathroom was small but very nice and had great towels. . The bedroom was extremely small, and the light fixtures need to be updated. A great rate, but please update the beddroom!
"Washington Jefferson Hotel"
I booked a room at the Washington Jefferson last minute after a business trip was extended. The room was very comfortable and very clean. The staff was friendly and the neighborhood is nice and quiet but still very near to the mid-town sites. The hotel has free wireless which worked very well. I stayed in a small one person room but it was perfect for […] my needs and the bed and linens were very comfortable. The only minor problem: the elevator wasn't working when I was there and I had several pieces of luggage. Nevertheless, the hotel staff offered to carry everything upstairs. I would definitely stay in this hotel again. Read more
"Made for theater buffs"
This Hotel couldn't have been a better location for theater lovers. We had expensive tickets to see Book of Mormon and without realizing that we were late to the show until we were late to the show, we were able to fly by foot and get to the show in less that four minutes. The hotel was, clean, Affordable, and everyone was very helpful. They called […] a car company for us to get back to the airport and the housekeeper kindly turned off the radiator for us since the heat was too overwhelming. Its probably not the best place to stay in the summer since I don't think they have central air. One improvement they could make is the bedding and pillows could be a little softer and fluffier. Other than that, I'd go again in a heart beat. Read more
