We were warmly welcomed to the hotel and our rooms were ready early. Everyone and I do mean everyone was so friendly, helpful and caring. Very helpful in booking outings and where to go and what to do. We tried 4 out of 5 of the restaurants and the food was very good at all of them. Not much of a beach left from the hurricane but still sand to layout on, just can't really get to the water that easy. You can, just not like walking straight into the water. Drinks were well made and good! Our room was spotless and very clean, new towel design on the bed each day-very fun. Only thing that could be better are the beds. If you like rock hard they will be perfect for you, if you are used to a soft tempur pedic bed-you will be hurting. Sleep at the pool! Great vacation.

Very good stay. The property was great. Very picturesque. Service was impeccable. Food was for the most part very good. The Italian restaurant was a notch above what seems to be available at Playa. The property did seem a little smaller and less expansive than most resorts I had been to, but for the purpose of relaxing, this place is spot on.

Our second time back in 10 years. Same great place we remembered! Such warm, friendly staff, good food and drinks, great location, very clean and I'm picky!! We toured the new Royal next door and still prefer the Gran. Walk to town, the ferry and along the beach.Can't say enough great things about this hotel.

The hotel was very nice and the staff was very helpful. However, I picked the hotel because I wanted to swim and play on the beach. The hotel beach was smelly, uncombed with sand bags everywhere with a large drop to water. The food was just ok.

the staff at the gran porto made us feel good from the moment we arrived. they all more then made up for any inconveniences we had such as the noise outside the room, at times it felt we were sleeping with the door open. and had a bit of a problem finding parking for my rental, since the hotel don't have their own parking space. but again the attention to details from all of the staff turn our experience into a positive one. thank you all.

Just got back yesterday and wow the weather in November, perfect!! Location is perfect! Service exceptional! Staff couldn't do enough for us...they were all such a joy!!! There was almost no beach, the beach that was there was held up by sand bags. Hot water was warm at best and when we called the hotel they told us it was the "big machine" and wouldn't be able to be fixed. The bars throughout had no straws which was just weird. The one good restaraunt needed reservations and by the third day we were there the rest of the night were booked up. The "welcome package" they called me at 7:00 am for on the thrid day was actually just a ploy to sell time shares to their sister hotel. Other than that the staff was nice and the hotel was located close to fifth ave which was nice.

This was our second trip to this resort. Love it, mostly that it has the small resort charm. Staff is extremely friendly, they all say hello when you walk by. Drink service is excellent at the pool. Food is just okay. They do lots of activities at the pool during the day (to keep everyone entertained). This is not a party resort, as all of the bars close by about 1 am (however the 24 hour lounge has beer on tap and liquor available 24/7). We will most definitely go back to this resort, mostly because of the staff and the other guests that go to this resort. If you go multiple times you will more than likely see some of the same guests as a lot seem to be repeaters.

Our stay at the Gran Porto Real was fantastic! We originally booked a standard room and after staying the first night, decided to upgrade to a Junior Suite. It was well worth it because not only was the room a considerable upgrade, but we also had privileges at their sister property, The Royal, next door. This added another 6+ restaurants and a much better beach. There are erosion issues on the beach at the Gran Porto so they've added sandbags which makes it difficult to swim there. It was really no big deal because there were plenty of options just a short walk down the beach and there's also plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas at the pool. We ate at all of the restaurants on both properties and never had a bad meal. The entertainment staff at both places do a great job of making sure everyone is having a good time. The service was fantastic at both places, too. Particularly Roberto at the front desk who helped us with our upgrade and accommodated every request. We loved the location since it was just two blocks from busy 5th Avenue with plenty of shops, restaurants and bars to choose from and just a short walk to the ferry over to Cozumel. Even after 2 weeks, we were sad to come home (particularly to the snow). We would definitely stay here again!

The is an older hotel, but it still nice and the entire staff is friendly. The beach for this property is no good for swimming. There are sand bags everywhere and algee that smells really bad. You can go next door to the Royal, a sister hotel and swim on their beach if you don't mind a short walk. Most of the entertainment was good.

Checking in I was disappointed since I booked 3 rooms on one reservation and the hotel didn't have us next to one another, we were on the same floor but not 3 rooms next to each other. I upgraded to an ocean front room for my husband and I which was nice. The beds in all our rooms were as hard as the ground. They need to get better mattresses. Our first room (307) was a ocean view, but you had to lean over and look down half of a block to see the ocean and you could hear all the noise like everyone was right outside the door until after midnight. The staff was great and the food was good too. You could go downtown Cancun and go to the sister hotel the Gran Caribe, we didn't as we stayed there a few years ago but you couldn't go across the street to the Royal Hotel unless you agreed to go through the presentation and sales pressure to buy into the vacation club. The beach is nice but very small and it had a smell that was not pleasant. The pools were nice too. I would stay there again but would want to be located towards the back of the lobby and pool area to have a decent night sleep. Our family was in room 320 and 322 and said it was quiet (they were both ocean view rooms) and close to the ocean but their balconies were very small (like a Romeo and Juliet balcony). I hope this helps everyone trying to decide where to stay. The location was excellent close to shops restaurants and the ferry.

Overall I have to admit that the place tries to be accommodating and generally makes everyone as comfortable as possible. Super clean but beach has issues. Not much the hotel can do but spend a ton of money on battling beach erosion. Great location. I will go back to this hotel without question. Saw previous reviews and if you only listen to the negatives you may miss a great time. Give it a shot.

we enjoyed the location, right on the beach. There was many choices of places to eat (and drink)! The rooms were very spacious, clean and comfortable. The hotel staff was always more than ready to assist and the excursions offered were reasonable and enjoyable. I think we liked swimming with the dolphins the most. The snorkeling on the reefs were the best ever seen. The live shows every night were exciting. The only downside was there was alot of construction in process, which in the long run will make this a much more luxurious hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel for your next stay in Playa del Carmen

Didn't like the idea you had to eat in the heat. Mexican restaurant was good but no a/c. Sushi bar was also outside. The hotel ceiling had leaks in the halls. Water every where. There was construction on one side of the pool aRea so have th e pool was closed.

Whether it's Arturo at the pool, Chucho in the dining room, or any of the bartenders in the entire facility you won't find any negative attitudes at this hotel. From the minute you arrive you can feel the weight of all the anxieties you left behind at home melt off of you. After the pleasant experience checking in we quickly unpacked at immeadiately started to explore the hotel. We instantly felt right at home. The biggest regret of the entire stay was leaving. There's always next time.

We had a nice time at the Gran Porto. All-inclusive food was as expected, although the staff did try to change things up. The Tranquil Pool on the rooftop was our favorite hangout! So quiet and relaxing. Unfortunately the beach is small and the shoreline is covered in sandbags, not necessarily something the resort can help. Overall, we had a great time. The location was great, just about a block from lots of shopping and restaurants.

Visited end of Septemeber/beginning of October. They are doing construction around the pool and that looks like it will take a few months. You can still enjoy the resort, but it does cause some extra noise. Drinks are good, staff is kind, and ate most meals in downtown Playa instead of at the resortz

Unfortunately, for about 100 yards in either direction the beach is polluted. If you are planning on swimming in the ocean you need to plan on walking a block in either direction. I asked why and was told that it was the underwater currents that caused the pollution to accumulate in front of the hotel as well as a small fleet of fishing boats anchored there. Also, the pool was under renovation and with a boarded up section around one end. This problem is more ascetics and should be solved quickly when then renovations are complete. We also experienced a water black out which lasted 6 or 8 hours with no hot water and intermittent cold spitting water. Some kind of plumbing problem which was fixed. I also did not like the pressure that was placed on us to attend a sales meeting to explain I think a variation on the time-share scheme. My wife said several times that we were not interested and they wouldn't take no for answer. It went so far as calling the room and asking when we could attend. Please this was 5 day 4 night vacation and high pressure sales tactics were not expected. There was also some kind of a fire close to our room. About 10 workers ran frantically down the hall to try and isolate where the smoke was coming from. I never did get an explanation on what happened but it sure smelled like something caught on fire in one of the rooms or it could have been in the duct work. On the plus side the staff was GREAT and the FOOD was good with a lot of different options.

The facility is excellent. It is what you would expect at an all inclusive resort. The choices for food have plenty of variety. All seafood choices are fresh and delicious. This is an excellent hotel with a great romantic spanish-colonial vibe - kept in perfect condition and with excellent staff: very attentive and with great customer service skills- From Enrique at the front desk, to Aaron at the Bell stand, everyone made sure we would have a memorable stay - Juanita, our housekeeper did a fantastic job: our room was always spotless and in order (plus she surprised us with lovely towel-sculputures)-It's worth upgrading to ocean front if you didn't book it before. Food is excellent and the wait staff is well trained- the teams that organize the tours are very knowledgeable and cater to your needs (thank you Carlito for a wonderful Cenote experience! and say 'Hi' to Sammy the monkey!)- we will come back soon!

The hotel staff was very friendly working swiftly to reconcile any issues one may have, like say cold water in your room. It was fixed immediately! The food was delicious at the buffet and the 3 restaurants as well. The alcohol is not all bottom shelve which is nice, the only beer is Dos XX. Which is good for the first several. All in all the staff accommodated our needs and the hotel was clean and modern with a little Italy touch to the decor. Would stay there again.

The beach had all the sand bags showing with no sand on top. You have to walk to other resorts to enjoy the beach. Resort was pretty but could not walk out and enjoy the beach and the water was nasty in the cove. Disappointed. Will not recommend to anyone.

We had an amazing time at Gran Porto Real. The best room we could have ever asked for with the best views. The hotel was very clean and the staff is super helpful, we did not encounter any issues at all and our overall stay was great. There are two thing people should be aware of, there is no beach, you are ocean front but the sea has taken all the beach area they had so all you have is rocks so you have to walk 5 minutes in either direction to get to a beach where you can swim. This is more of a natural issue than anything else, because there was a beach there years ago but now its gone. You also need to know that only one of the restaurants has conditioning and it can get really hot while you are eating. For us that was a problem because with a 18 month old that did not go well and meals were a disaster. The food is good, it is a buffet primarily but it is fairly good and we had no issues at all with their food options and freshness. You will be right in the middle of town so there are many things to do and places to go, there is a shopping center and many restaurants and bars to explore.

The staff, grounds, food, and location were amazing. The buffet was not incredible, but it had plenty of options. I would not recommend this hotel for someone who wants a beach. There were rocks and sand bags everywhere. The sister hotel next door has a great cleaned beach and when we went next door to try and use the chairs, we were told that we needed to be part of the hotel. The sister hotel's guests had no issue using our beach chairs. I go to Playa del Carmen for the beaches and the images falsely advertised what we actually received.

I was expecting to see a beautiful beach, a really 4 star hotel, but none of these. When you see nice pictures of this hotel do not believe it, those picture are from others luxury hotel, but not this one. Drinks, food are not a good quality, not even liquors. All of natural juices are from concentrate very cheap. Beds and pillows are so old. I am very disappoint about this hotel, I suppose to have a nice vacation but it was not it

The hotel staff were very helpful and pleasant. We arrived early and although our room wasn't ready we were fine with grabbing our suits and going straight to the beach. When the room was ready, we were excited to see it and get unpacked and discovered a king bed instead of two doubles. We went back to the front desk and were told that they were sorry but that was not "guaranteed". My only concern with that was my confirmation indicated two double beds so that was disappointing. The manager did provide us with two roll away beds which ended up working well. We were within walking distance of the ferry to Cozumel which made it easy to get there by beach. Our final night we dined at Pesacadore and had a wonderful waiter, Salvador. The food was wonderful as well. Buffets were good but the food at this restaurant was certainly a cut above. Entertainment nightly was also very good. The performers were talented dancers and I enjoyed the variety of costumes and the pace of the shows.

3 adults traveling- the room I booked not available. Had to have roll away bed taking up floor space & what was described as ocean view was a far stretch. Had to go out on patio & crane to c water which was across street and beside property there. Some construction at hotel, although was not told when booked SPA massage package that the changing room/sauna/jacuzzi & showers were being used for both male/females. It was awkward & we ended up not using anything. No music or "zen"in spa...dirty, outdated & only two hard metal loungers for sitting.

We stayed at the Gran Porto Real 7 years ago but didn't do the exclusive. There are changes in Playa Del Carmen, the Gran Porto Real is still a great resort there.

My husband and I went here for our Honeymoon. We upgraded to a ocean front room on the 3rd floor and we're so glad we did. It was picture perfect. The room was very spacious and clean. We loved hanging out at the pool daily. There was construction going on next to the pool but it didn't bother us too much. The food was decent. The buffet offers a decent variety of food daily and we really enjoyed the mayan dinner set up at the pool one night. By the end of our week we ended up ordering room service breakfast, since we liked it better and you and can eat buffet food so much. Maria's mexican restaurant was great and we sat on the patio during a nice night. The one thing we had an issue with was Pescatores Italian restaurant. We were not informed that we needed to make a reservation for dinner at this place a few days in advance. So we didn't get to eat there. There was nothing in the hotel information book in our rooms about reservations either...so we were a little upset we didn't get to eat there. The beach is tiny and is suffering from erosion. Hopefully they can fix that soon. Overall, we had a nice time. The location is great and just a minute away from shops along the street.

We were celebrating our 24th anniversary and stayed at the hotel because it location right at the beach and the town. The staff was very friendly and always helpful. And the hotel room was always clean, I was surprise to find a new towel design every night when coming back from the tours or the beach. Marias restaurant and the Italian restaurant were great and have great staff

Arrived early, before our room was ready, and found the receptionist seemingly upset that we had interrupted her conversation with another staff member. Came back to check in to our room and once again spoke with receptionist. She seemed indifferent that our room was not ready at the scheduled time. Nor was it ready an hour later. Finally, our the room was ready. Was willing to give it a chance and overlook her attitude and room delay. When we got to our room we were shocked, to say the least. The base room was something more akin to the Bates Motel. Something built in the 1950s... My wife and I couldn't believe they actually put guests in these rooms. So we upgraded to a better room - paid more per night - was well worth it. It was ok, nothing stellar, but good. It was obviously newer than our previous room. The fit and finish throughout this hotel was sad. We've stayed in the Cancun/Playa area for nearly 20 years and this hotel was the worst. Promoted as upscale, but sadly missed the mark. Good for spring breakers who just come for the alcohol and night life. Beach in front of the hotel smelled like the bathroom - the fishing boats dump a lot of dead fish in the water. That along with the stagnant seaweed and floating trash forced us to find a better beach to sit. The only upside was Dario - waiter at the beach bar and Sarain and Froilan that work in the Mexican restaurant. The beaches north and south of Gran Porto Real - very nice... go ther
