"OUTDATED and OVERRATED!"
It's clear why they are doing a major renovation. It was like being in a nice cabin in the woods. The setting and idea seemed nice... you have your own little veranda and there is volleyball, horseshoes and such, but the room was really old and felt dirty. Mildew on the ceiling in bathroom and the like. But the room was spacious and the stay convenient […] for the wedding we were attending. Not at all worth the $150+ we paid per night despite Hotels.com offering the lowest price we could find saving us $40 per night. And they only offer 2 DOUBLE beds, not queens, so we actually took two air mattresses as we had 4 adults and sharing double beds is just not practical. "Very Family Friendly"
Aside from the room and what is considered the "Deluxe" room the whole place was really cool, we took both of our boys and they had a blast. The staff was so friendly and it very much had a family feel. The room was far from impressive, the room only had full sized beds and for paying extra for a deluxe is far from worth it. "Sprawling grounds with little activity"
We are used to resorts where there are working pools, planned activities and overall a sense of vibrancy. This one fell far from that. The place was dull and quiet. The pools were not heated and even the bathrooms next to the outdoor pools were out of order. The cafe was closed, the hotel people near our building were clueless about any activity going […] on (it turned out there were none), the ping-pong table was forlorn with neither bats nor balls anywhere near (and no hotel staff either). We discovered there is a tennis place, but it would cost us $12/hour to play in one of the outdoor courts and $18/hour at one of the indoor ones. Further, they all close down at 6 pm. The place is a 45-60 minutes drive away from downtown Houston. The reason we had planned on this place is that we were expecting a vibrant resort atmosphere, but were sorely disappointed. There was construction going on, so I give them a partial pass on that issue. Otherwise, I might have rated them higher. The only issue I had, was the shuttle service. They never gave specific instructions for drop off and pick up. "Nice Hotel but unclean bathroom"
We had a late arrival but were quickly checked in by friendly staff. We even were given a ride to our room. The room was nice and spacious but the bathroom was not clean. There were bugs in our bath tub and hair all over the floor. since we were only in the room to sleep and slightly prepare for a wedding the next day we didn't call the front about […] it. "Not worthy of a stay"
Upon arrival, there was a very long line to check in. Staff was pleasant and sent us to our room. The building as not very clean looking and very old. For $150 I thought it should have been nicer. Key did not work...had to head all the back to lobby. Told receptionist that I was not very happy and she offered to upgrade in the nicer part of the resort. […] We tried to locate that room and the parking was entirely too far away for two women at 12 midnight to walk from the designated parking lot to the room. A DEFINITE TREK FOR 2 63 YEAR OLD WOMEN in the dark. Went back to lobby and I told desk I just wanted to go home and Rose said she would not charge us for the room. My husband and I stayed one night in this hotel as rest after the Renessiance Festival. We stayed in the new addition which was very nice. We had a great view of the amazing pool- will definitely return with the kids in summer. The rooms and surroundings are great, our only regret was the restaurant dining experience . "Nothing to write home about"
This stay was a spa weekend for us. The spa services were nice. The spa facility was good. Not impressed with room. Definitely older. Toliet kept running unless you shook the handle. Room could of been a little cleaner. But, I would probably go back for spa services or during summer to use water facilities. "Okay hotel/resort, location is what you pay for"
Check in was quick. The room seemed old and had a "damp" smell to it, but it was otherwise clean. The room was located in a beautiful woodland area. There are little nature walking trails that run along a creek and a pond and the area was very pretty. The pool was cold, but the new area was fun. There was a bar and two large water slides. The height […] restriction is very restrictive at 42 inches so do not go there if your child is under that unless they are the type that understand (I have twin 3 year olds who did not understand considering that they can ride almost everything at Schliterbahn). The price is fair considering the grounds, location, and the pool/waterslides. It is not fair insofar as the room, but we were given a room in the area that is older and not in the newer area with the slides so the newer rooms may be better. Make sure that you are in the new section as the older section is not acceptable for the price and has a strong odor. The staff needs more training and is not helpful. They actually stated the were short staffed many times to us but there seemed a lot of standing around. Air conditioning sounded like someone knocking on the door when it started. When it shut off, it sounded like someone was slamming the door of the room next door. Woke me up all night. Personnel were great! I am hard to please and never had a complaint. Also the staff was willing to make your stay as easy as possible, I was there with my husband who had gotten hurt in a game earlier and had a bruised kidney and they made sure to take care of us, even making sure he was bused around from location to location. If you are looking for a place that makes you feel that you might have woken up in the 1970's then this is the hotel for you. My room looked like a corporate apartment from 1978. The bed was the best thing about the room; it was comfortable. However, underneath the premium duvet cover and good pillow cases, were rough, common hotel sheets. The bathroom […] was ugly. That's it. Ugly tile and unremarkable.The room had an awful air conditioner. Each time the unit would cycle off, the whole clattered. Lovely romantic touch. And when the ac wasn't running the whole place had a slightly damp smell and feel. The only solution was to turn it so that it ran continuously -- otherwise it would have clattered us awake all night long. "It was ok"
My boyfriend and I stayed for one night. The pool was awesome and we were only a 2 minute walk from our hotel room. There was nothing special about the rooms, or the bathrooms, the showers were small and the grout in the shower wasn't as clean as you would expect spending almost 200 dollars for one night stay at this facility, and the shower head seemed […] to be clogged like it had hard water build up. Most hotels at least have a mini fridge in the room to keep drinks and small foods, but this one did not have one. The picture of the pool sold us...it was a great pool, but we made the grave mistake of choosing this hotel over Labor Day weekend. There were no less than 500 people in, and surrounding, the pool. "Not too impressed with flooding bathroom"
Every time the neighbor above me took a bath, it leaked through the ceiling and down the wall flooding my bathroom. I reported it the first time and after I asked to send someone to mop my bathroom floor they did. The second time no one came to my room and when I called back they said that they took care of the problem and that the person above me had […] over flowed the tub again. Did not come clean my bathroom and left the water to soak into the carpet. Thank goodness I left the next morning before the mold and mildew set in. "great location in the Woodlands"
This is a nice hotel, however I was disappointed that we had no mini-fridge or microwave--for a 6 night stay, it would have been convenient to be able to at least get some cereal/milk for breakfast, and not have to eat every meal out. The service was fine, although the room we stayed in was showing some signs of wear. And the carpet was vacuumed of […] course, but when we walked in bare feet, you could tell it was a little dirty. We had no shampoo in the bathroom, but the maid brought me some when I asked the next day. The pools are beautiful, and the staff very helpful. My rental car had a flat tire, and I flagged down one of the guys--he led me to the golf cart shop where he put air in it, and helped me make a plan to get it fixed. Very very helpful & friendly.
