When we checked in there was a bus load of middle aged women in the lobby. The noise was deafening! It didn't get much better after they got to their rooms. Doors slamming. Shouting in the hall etc. Forget about breakfast. There was not enough food. I think this place caters to this type of clientele. I won't be going back.

We loved the pool and waterpark. The front desk staff was accommodating, friendly, and knowledgeable about the area. Room was plush and even though my room location was right off the parking lot... it was quiet and tranquil. My only issue was housekeeping. The halls are blocked all day every day with large carts yet my room didn't attempt to be cleaned […] until after 6pm. The housekeeping person was going around everyday saying this was her last day, she was off the next day and was soliciting for her tips. The breakfast buffet is not worth getting up early for. My fiance and I stayed at the Straits Hotel in late September for the Big Mac bike tour. Our room was small, the outlets in the wall wouldn't hold a plug, breakfast was a full range of make your own waffles, toast, bagels, juice and coffee, however the eggs tasted like chemicals and the sausage was terrible. The Straits Hotel name did not stand out very well to someone who had never been there before. The coffee was horrible, and yogurt and fruit would have been nice, especially for those of us who don't eat sausage or gravy or powdered eggs. The bed was very comfortable.

We couldn't find the hotel because they had changed the name since we booked it. It was an old Hampton Inn. Outside door lock was broken, toilet kept running, bathroom light was burned out, door to room wouldn't always lock, decorations dull and old. Beds not comfortable. Sound proofing was little to none. We made the mistake of staying in this hotel recently. We checked in on a Hot summer night at around 8:00 pm and after we returned to the hotel after having dinner outside, the AC was not working. When we reported this to the hotel staff, they said they cannot get a maintenance person in the night, and we can open the window a little bit to make it […] comfortable! Hotel just changed owners. It was clean and convenient. We used the pool which was clean. We also were able to walk right across the street to the ferry for Mackinac Island. Breakfast was ok. We stayed here two nights and would go back.

We received confrimation from Expedia on the day of our arrival for Lakeview Hotel, the problem with that was the name of the hotel was Magnuson. As we walked to the front of the building the curtains were open on all the first floor rooms, none of them were made up, many had furniture stacked up, we wondered if the hotel was in business. We checked […] in and entered our room, except that room was already occupied with anothe guest, I nearly tripped on their flip-flops entering the room and saw their luggage and clothes laid out on the bed. My two young children were very upset about this. When we went back to the front desk we were given another room and the clerk told us it wasn't her fault, complain in the morning. She said the new room we were given shouldn't be dirty. When we returned to the hotel later that night the employee that checked us in was outside talking to another employee, apparently a shift change. They both asked if our room was dirty, when we said no they seemed relieved. We wouldn't have stayed had the other hotels not been booked late on a Friday night. Very disappointing. Read more

Pictures on website are deceiving. Basic economy hotel. View of lake is across the street between two hotels. New owners and new name - confused where it was at because of name change, but we had the address and figured it out. Obvious that they try to make the appearance of an upscale hotel but the quality of the decor, etc. is not upscale. First of all, the name above is not the current name of this hotel. When we got there we were looking for the Lakeview Motel, but we could not find it. Lucky we had the addresse with us because this is the only way we found it. The new name was on the sign out front with the former name in small print under it. This hotel was great! The only thing is that the name is no longer Lakeview. It's a Magnuson hotel, with a "sub-name" of the Straits Hotel. The rooms are very nice! The pool was closed for maintainence, which would have been nice to know before hand, but that's ok. Overall, I'd recommend it highly! The location and price were excellent! :)

Stayed here on 7/6/11 after making reservations the same day on Hotel.com- then drove up and down S. Huron street for 45 minutes and called twice before finding the hotel. The name changed from the Lakeview to "The Straights Hotel" per the lady who answered the phone- her less then helpful directions included not knowing what the neighboring businesses […] were and "thinking" that the building was tan. I guess the hotel had just changed ownership that morning but it would have been helpful if Hotel.com had been updated with the new name or if the hotel had bothered to indicated that the sign was green and the hotel name was MAGNUSON (large letters on sign) and the straights hotel was in very small letters- or if they had a street address anywhere on the blasted building. That said, several hours later and after multiple customers having problems finding the building they finally added "formerly the Lakeview Hotel" to the editable part of the sign- but that helpful hint was too late to do me any good. Rooms were very small- we had two "double" beds which were narrower than any double bed I've seen before. My 11 year old and 9 year old had issues sharing one of the beds it was so narrrow. For two adults to share one of the beds they would have needed to sleep practically on top of each other. On the plus side the bedding was very nice- all white including the comforter and very soft and clean. The pool was flithy dirty when we went out to use it- again they indicated that they had just taken over the hotel that morning - but that was little consulation to my children who specifically wanted to swim in a heated hotel pool rather than the rocky and cold public beach up the road. Finally- the location. The hotel is across the street from the Ramada and Arnold dock, sandwiched between the Comfort Inn and a small abandoned building.
