The location of the hotel and proximity to UT was perfect without being at a closer crowded location. The room was very clean and I love the almost new clean towels. The AC in the room was great for a restful night. While there I took advantage of fitness center. That room could use some improvements. It was dirty and had an odor. I've been working in Austin for quite awhile and this hotel location is wonderful. Although most of the room are old and outdated, they had most basic that you need that some other hotel will charge extra/doesn't have as standard. Also, my room is mostly in the back area facing away from the freeway and it's quiet there so make sure you ask for a room […] in the back or you'll have to stand the loud noise of the freeway in the front. All said n done the room was 39 bucks. But the section I was in smelled of cigarettes and just looked beat down. The walls and ceiling had stains. The police were there on more than one occasion that night. At the intersection this hotel was located at, two cracked out hobos were trying to wash my windshield upon leaving in the morning. The trick to loving this hotel is going in with the right attitude. It's a cheap hotel, so your expectations shouldn't be for something spectacular. The room was good, shower was good, continental breakfast was amazing. Hole in the bathroom wall from a previous slam of the door knob, but who cares? For the price, this is a great hotel.

The hotel was run down and disgusting (i.e. mold in the shower). The neighborhood was less than savory. Perhaps the most disappointing part of the stay was the fact that hotel staff was unwilling to clean the room and avoided doing so for 2 nights even after numerous complaints. Hotel is older but is in a good location if you need to be in the north end of Austin. Rooms were in need of renovation but were decently clean and comfortable. staff was friendly and helpful. Not a hotel if you are looking for luxury but good to use if you are needing a place to sleep.

We have little problem with AC bec it bother to make us cold during our two beds. AC need to fix for up not down to two beds. I put few pillows on side bed to block AC wind me. Need to fix up, not down. But yes we love to stay there someday. Thank you so much for staying there!

We need a cheap room for a couple of nights to see a concert. That was exactly what this was. I do not think I have been in a worse room, especially the smell. It at least met the minimal requirements of a clean bed and hot water.

While your staff was extremely friendly and accommodating I couldn't check in till after 4 pm and I arrived at 10 am. I was there on business and had to ride around for hours which and prep for my business meeting in a rental car. Also the clientele at the hotel was not appealing. The room was old dingy and had holes and dirty comforter. I used HOJO […] because as a kid growing up that was my parents hotel we would stay at on vacation. I was upgraded to a renovated room which are still being renovated. Once complete, they will be comfortable but will not rate higher than a 3 star hotel. There is tape on the tile to protect it from being painted, the door signs are temporary and many public areas are not renovated. The non renovated rooms are 1 star at best. I was very disappointed in the cleanliness of the rooms. I t took 2 days to clean the room and change out the sheets even after I called the manager on duty. the location was great! I am sorry but this will be our last stay at this hotel. Hopefuly they will get it together soon.

Place is definitely old and you can tell in a lot of little wear and tears in the walls. Was in a non-smoking room, but still could smell traces of smoke. On the up side everything appeared as clean as could be and had no problem with staff.

I needed a hotel last minute for 6 nights. The HJ was inexpensive and easy to book. The website made it seem do-able. Yikes, it is scary. Rooms and hallways had missing carpet, missing room numbers, broken door to the outside that let anyone in off the streets. The man, Jerome, at the desk has wonderful customer service and he should be recruited to […] a much nicer hotel! You can hear you neighbors thru the paper thin walls. I was terrified of the drug dealing and scandalous behavior of people in the room next door. The room had very old....everything. Well, you get what you pay for. I needed a quick and cheap hotel near a gig in Austin for one night, so I rolled the dice. The first room the staff gave me was completely unacceptable, but they kindly and immediately switched me to a slightly less unacceptable alternative. The staff, btw, was helpful and friendly, but obviously overworked and frustrated. […] Both 'non-smoking' rooms smelled like old smoke, and had stained ceiling tiles that were so old and worn they looked feathery. The smell that came out of the heater/air conditioner was indescribable—and I'm a writer. Hair dryer? Broken. Balcony light? Flickering, giving the room a 1920s-silent horror movie effect. Second door lock? Broken. TV remote? Dead battery and broken. On-site restaurant and room service, as advertised? Nope. Desk and accompanying chair? Sticky to the touch. Parking lot security? None visible. Alarm clock? None. Wild life in the bathroom? Yes indeed. Again, I understand we get what we pay for. In this case, I paid $50, so there ya go. PS—what happened to the orange roof, ice cream and fried clams that are sweet as a nut? That wonderful childhood memory of HoJo has been replaced with a lesson learned. Read more

This place was a massive dump, it has not been recently renovated as they say. Place was a dump inside and out. Homeless wandered the parking lots all hours of the night. Very, very bad neighborhood. Rooms had been redone recently, but very poorly. Chair sat in middle of room because it did not fit anywhere. To step onto deck you had to squirm behind […] desk, about 8" of space between door. Entire end of hotel water and mold logged, so bad parts of ceiling had fallen off. Mold everywhere in certain parts of hotel. Not worth the amount of money they charged.
