Le Meridien Bora Bora - Bora Bora

The rooms are fantastic, romantic and beautiful, but our electricity went out 3 nights in a row. Also, all three restaurants are SO incredibly understaffed that there are no more than 2 waiters present to staff the entire hotel. As a result, we all waited nearly an hour to order food, 3 hours to GET our food, etc. My mother in-law got so frustrated […] one night she left the dinner table and refused to have them bring her dinner to the room. WORST of all though is the boat shuttle service. We felt trapped at this hotel because it's isolated on a Motu and would've loved a more frequent shuttle service that would allow us to wander around the island a few hours or even experience dinner on the island, but instead Le Meridian conveniently sets their hours so you can't go to and from the island easily and they charge OUTRAGEOUS fees just to use the shuttle, like $35 / person one way. Also, they charge you $100 for the boat shuttle to and from the airport which you can't avoid because that's the only way to get there!! How is that right? By all means, if you want your guests to stay there than staff the restaurants properly and make it a pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately it was not. Le Meridian does what they can to squeeze every bit of $$ from you which made this trip so disappointing. I'd recommend staying on the island at the Intercontinental or the Sofitel. The customer service at this hotel was poor, they are unwilling to book reservations at main island restaurants. They push a lot of different sales offerings, including very poor food for the money. Be prepared to pay hefty prices for food and alcohol during your stay; everything is imported here, so they have to pass that on to the customer. (If money is an issue, bring some snacks with you from home and substitute occasional meals to keep costs down.) The hotel's Activity Desk has lots of off-site ideas if you inquire, and my recommendation is the shark-feeding tour. No wetsuit or scuba gear needed...it's strictly for snorkelers. Bora Bora is amazing! We stayed at both Le Meridien and Hilton. The Hilton was a little nicer and more laid back, quiet. The bungalows were bigger too. Le Meridien was a little more lively. There are pros and cons to both and we enjoyed both, but would probably stay at Hilton again.

The Le Meridien was not a dissapointment. It is a first class motel. They have glass in the bungalow so that you can see the fish. There were lots of activities for everyone. We enjoyed everything. This was our 3rd trip to Bora Bora

This is a great resort. The only downside is you're a little isolated because you have to take a boat to the island if you want to do anything besides hang at the hotel, but the view is spectacular, so it's worth it. In addition, they would knock on my door thirty minutes after I had received my meal to ask if I was done yet. Each time, they interrupted my meal or the nice evening in was trying to enjoy. It feel like I was being nagged to finish. - The food was not that great, and it probably wouldn't be that much of a big deal were it not for the hefty price tag it carried. If you enjoy fine dining on a vacation you may want to take this into consideration. - If you want a drink at the pool, plan to stand there for a while - service is at a snail's pace. - Here, the sun sets over Mount Otemanu and you miss out on the great sunsets over the South Pacific. Also, I assumed that the hotel's water taxi service to and from the airport were included in the price of the hotel....it was not. On my final bill there were two $90 charges for taxi to and from the hotel. We stayed at LeMeridian for 6 nights for our honeymoon and had a wonderful time. Our room was upgraded to an overwater bungalow (at no extra cost) and it was incredible. There was even a bottle of champagne waiting for us newlyweds when we arrived, a nice surprise. The decor was very contemporary and island styled. We loved seeing the variety of fish […] through the glass bottom, not to mention the cool blue night light it provided at night. One night we awoke to hundreds of fish literally having a feeding frenzy on the surface, a real exciting site. Although LeMeridian appears to be one of the few hotels on the Motu that has a nice white sandy beach and a swim area that faces the Island's mountain, the inner lagoon was our favorite spot to swim and snorkel in. We found many fish and coral reefs to explore with the complementary snorkel and fins. They provided other free ammenities like paddleboats, canoes and private tours on a small catamaran which we also took advantage of. The food and drinks on the Island are not cheap at all. Expect to pay $30+ a meal and $22 per cocktail everywhere. Beer is the cheapest at $7, unless you buy it in the grocery store. LeMeridian offered some good snack options and their room service had some great deals for breakfast. Their food was very gourmet and they provided a different buffet each night. The staff were all very friendly and mostly locals, which made it fun as they always said "hello" and "thank you" in Tahitian. Read more

We felt very well taken care of from the front desk reception, concierge at the activities desk, the guys in the activity hut on the beach, and especially from the ladies at the poolside bar/cafe. It was also nice to always have complimentary transportation arranged for you. A boat shuttle departs from the hotel every evening around 6:30 going over to the center island where a shuttle or taxi picks you up compliments of the restaurant you are going to and takes you back later in the evening. We highly recommend the shark feeding/sting ray trip. I know it sounds scary, but we kept hearing about it from other hotel guests and were so happy we did it. The family that does this boat trip are very enjoyable and entertaining, singing beautiful Tahitian songs, cracking jokes, and giving a little insight into the life of the locals. Swimming with the sharks and sting rays is a total rush, tons of fun. You don't have to get into the water with them if you don't want to , but you really shouldn't miss out on it! We also recommend, if your meals are not included in the price of your room, to order room service. It's less expensive than the buffet, and the American breakfast is still plenty of food for 2. We loved having breakfast delivered to the room and eating it in our bathrobes on our balcony overlooking the calm morning water. The hotel was great overall. However, we were there for New Years Eve and we don't drink alcohol and the dinner buffet (only option available) was $330 dollars per person which included a bottle of Moet, which we asked them to take back since we don't drink. However, we still had to pay the full amount of the buffet (which included the bottle of Moet […] price). Otherwise, our hut was clean, service was friendly. On their website they made it seem like wifi was a given if you get the Premium Ottoman Bungalow (the room we got) but when we got there, it turns out that you have to pay like $20 dollars for a minumum of 2 hours at a time on only one device. However, they did have an internet room where there was 3 computers (slow connection) that we were able to use for internet. There was also only like 4 or 5 TVchannels which 2 were in French and one was CNN and the other was a old movie channel. To rent a movie it was like $18.99. Take advantage of the free options since everything else is so expensive in Bora Bora such as the kayaking, snorkeling, swimming with the turles/ tropical fish, windsurfing, turtle feeding, etc. that the resort offers. Also, if you book activities through the Activities desk at the hotel, it is more expensive so book activities on your own! You are better off booking taxi seperately or on your own for $40-50 roundtrip for 2 people versus $70 dollars if you book it through the activities desk. Read more

After booking this beautiful property on Expedia, I realized I needed to arrange the airport to resort boat transfer. It would have been nice if Expedia's customer service had made the arrangements, but I don't remember them offering. So I emailed Le Meridien Bora Bora who needed my flight intinerary and arranged for their private boat to pick us up […] from the airport. Entering the resort by boat was spectacular. The staff provided a nice walking tour of the facility and the check-in process was very good. Our over water bungalow was in a French Polynesia modern decor and glass bottom floor was stunning. The main draw to this resort for us was the beautiful inner lagoon where you can swim/snorkel with sea turtles and different species of fish. Le Meridien also has their own complimentary ferry to the main island. However, you will need to make arrangements with the activities desk to determine your mode of island transportation. We opted for an eight hour rental car so we could have lunch and dinner as we explored and shopped the island. Read more

We had the most amazing experience here.The staff are professional and the service was exceptional. We had booked a lagoon view bungalow which was over the water with direct access to the lagoon from the deck. The floor had a glass section where we could see fish and stingrays swim by. They had the freshest fish available and it made a nice change from eating at Le Meridian. I recommend taking a half day lagoon tour too. The guys that run it are very entertaining and you get to swim with 2.5m lemon sharks and feed stingrays. I also recommend hiring your own small boat to explore the lagoon. Being able to relax on your on private balcony and dive right off it into vivd clear blue waters when you got to hot was fantastic. Swimming with the turtles and the amazing coloured […] fish in the hotel lagoon is experience you can't miss - the turtles and fish are so inquisitive and friendly. When you need to get away from the hotel, there is a shuttle boat every hour to the main island where you can go shopping for souvenirs, black plearls or get out and about for a change of scenery. Otherwise the activities desk at the hotel has an abundance of activities to enjoy - we went on the shark and ray feeding tour which was a great experience.
