"The Burford Bridge hotel at Box Hill"
This is a historic spot with something for everyone , nature , history , location , you name it . The staff are obviously proud of their hotel and its facilities and provide a warm welcome,. The restaurant is excellent and the bar meals ideal if your appetite is not up to three courses . Wine selections are also well described with a good choiceGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Stayed for wedding night, arrived just after midnight and two guys on duty were amazingly helpful, checked us in quickly, showed us to the room and even organised food and champagne to help us celebrate a bit longer! Great service, very scenic location, overall, great hotelGenuine Hotels.com guest review
A very comfortable stay in lovely green surroundings. The outdoor pool was a delight after our long walk in the hot weather. Just need a sauna and steam. There's room to put one in... The hotel room double bed was huge and comfortable that looked out on to the pleasant Green Garden, the bathroom immaculate with a deep bath. Breakfast was delicious. […] Variety and looked good in the lightly aired dining room. Restaurant was closed on the Sunday night when we wanted to eat but it wasn't a problem as the bar food was nice and the bar was a nice place to be in. Tasteful and neutral decor throughout newly refurbished hotel. Liked all the furnishings especially the two seater chair in the foyer. A very modern reception. Just thought it was a big old table at first. Check-in took a long time. No queue but staff seemed to find the laptop keyboard tricky. Liked the quietness of the place. Heard the loud music from the wedding party in the Tithe Barn but don't know when that stopped as I fell asleep. Hotel great for visiting Denbies Vineyard and Dorking ton centre as is within walking distance. We had a very enjoyable stay and would love to return again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect location for Box Hill and Denbies vineyard"
This is our second stay here, and we were wondering what to expect after the floods and subsequent revamp the hotel had gone through. It only reopened 2 weeks before our stay, so most things looked pristine. The bedroom was comfortable, and the bathroom was big. Unfortunately the shower wasn't really powerful enough, which was a shame as it had a monsoon […] shower head! The breakfast was really good. Next time we might book two nights so that we had time to use the very inviting pool.... Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Not a good stay, room was very small, and smelling of paint. Bathroom door still had wet paint, which got on our clothes. Considering we booked 3 month in advance, the room was not really aceptable, and in hind sight should have kicked up a fuss. Bathroom was again small, chipped bath, not enough towells, very little bath gel/ shampoo.Window blinds […] not private, and open to front veiw by passers by, noise from outside. Double bed but room only fit for one person. Wifi no good, TV stations limited. No lifts. Corridoors very tight when carrying bags. Food trays left in corridoors, not collected. Reception very slow. "Shabby but not chic"
The public areas were fine and the staff were all very helpful and polite. Breakfast was great with loads of choices. Dinner, however, was a disappointment. Overpriced, over seasoned and overcooked. The room could have been ok, but the carpets were grubby and there were crumbs on the floor. The minibar was nt switched on when we arrived and only contained […] two bottles of water, one of which was opened and some water was gone, the other had a faulty cap and we weren't able to open it. The pool looked good, but we didn't have time to try it. Great location for Denbies vineyard and perfect for Box Hill Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good venue for a special occasion"
We use this hotel and Restaurant for an annual Reunion Lunch .. This year we got off to a slow start as the Hotel and the Restaurant were both very busy so it was 20 mins before we could order a drink and another 20 mins before we could order our meal . However all went very well after that with an excellent meal , good wine selection and good service […] . All finished off with coffee in the lovely gardens with stunning views of Box Hill . The blazing sun helped as well Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Pleasant and relaxing"
A pleasant and relaxing stay. Very friendly, helpful staffGenuine Expedia guest review
We stayed in the Keat's room for the night of our wedding and stayed the breakfast the next morning. The room was stunning, beautiful huge bay window and a 4-poster bed, really comfy, great views.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent and welcoming hotel"
I've stayed at this hotel many times. The staff are very warm and welcoming, and the breakfast service is top notch! Freshly cooked to order when it's quiet enough. Really comfy beds, rooms are a good size and 10 minutes to the M25.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good rural location at the bottom of Box Hill"
We have stayed in this hotel in the past, but felt a little disappointed after this visit. It could be excellent with just a little effort. The service at reception was very slow though staff were very friendly, and prices for extras seem to be rather expensive for the level of staffing. Breakfast was very good. There was a disco at the back of the […] hotel but this did not disturb us in our room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely escape for couples"
We had a lovely weekend away at this hotel. Staff were polite and efficient. The room was small but clean and the bed magnificently comfy. The only criticism I had, was the walls were really thin so you could hear other peoples conversations and movements very easily. And there was no free access to wifi in your room. Would definitely stay at this hotel […] again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful hotel in Box Hill"
I had an excellent stay and will more than likely come back,Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Pros:Stayed here for a wedding in the Tithe Barn. Bedoom and TB air conditioned, excellent as temperature outside was 33*C. Evening meal in dining room delicious, staff there helpful, friendly, obliging but not intrusive. Cons: highchairs in very poor state of repair; directed to 'ground floor' garden rooms up outside, uneven, steps! Found access round […] side of building, path overgrown and very dark at night. Parking across road from hotel, very busy indeed with would-be Bradley Wiggins cyclists racing round corner and up and down Box Hill. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Relaxing overnight stopover"
Good location, easy to see Box Hill with its splendid views. Good size outdoor pool. Room in good condition - maybe bathroom could do with some deep cleaning. Breakfast was the best I can remember - very high quality choices, and lovely attentive waiting staff (all that is except one waiter who seemed to hover in the corner trying to chat with the hard […] working waitresses. He tried hard to avoid any contact with customers, including me). Overall however a lovely experience. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
It was very nice. The breakfasts were superb. The only slight complaint was that the rooms were a bit small for three of us (my wife, myself and my daughter). The place and hotel itself were very nice though and I would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good venue for weddings, anniversary/birthdays"
We went for two nights as we had been invited to a birthday celebration in the attached Tythe Barn. The accommodation was therefore very convenient. The staff were very friendly, efficient and helpful throughout our stay and the breakfasts in the hotel were good. I would certainly stay in this hotel again if I was invited to another event there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"A Surrey Gem"
This hotel is ideally situated near Dorking , with Denbies Vineyards walking distance and the Olympic cycling road race just round the corner on the famous Box Hill zig zag . The restaurant has a small but well chosen menu and the wine list ranges from the quaffable to the exotic . Ideal for a getaway from it all weekend .Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"A deux pas de la M25"
Nous avions choisi cet hotel pour sa proximité aux grands axes comme la M25 près de Londres tout en bénéficiant d'un cadre bucolique et très calme.Le petit déjeuner est correct et copieux (buffet à l'anglaise). Par contre la ville de Dorking à proximité ne présente aucun charme particulier.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Even Better Than Before"

My wife and I stayed here for a night on December 23rd, as we were visiting our favourite butchery/farm shop in the nearby village of Forest Green. It's the third year running we have stayed at Burford Bridge - last year on the same date the river Mole, next to the hotel, burst its banks in the early hours of Christmas Eve and all the cars in the car park were up to their windows in water. We had to be rescued in a Fire Brigade boat and we were taken to the sister hotel in Dorking and given another night free of charge while we waited for the waters to go down so that we could try to retrieve our car, which we finally did on Christmas morning. The hotel couldn't re-open until September this year. Such drama would have tested any staff to breaking point but everybody from the Manager to the waitresses and reception staff excelled in the way they responded to the challenge. We felt completely looked after by them at all times, even beyond the call of duty. The refurbished hotel is cosier and better laid out, and though we happily had none of the drama of last year on this stay we found all of the staff every bit as professional and welcoming as ever. There is a strong impression of careful staff selection and good training, and the hotel totally lacks the stuffiness and pretentiousness of so many of the 'corporate' establishments. My wife and I (and our dog) know we can always depend on a relaxing stay here.

"The new benchmark."

To save too many words I simply echo every single complimentary compliment paid by those re-visiting after the flood. Whilst only ever calling in for protracted morning coffee and/or lunch the place was and thankfully still is, a joy. Being in Yuppie stockbroker posh Surrey it so easily could have gone all superior, 'designer' and boutique to keep the commoners at bay. This visit was such a delight & the dining room looked so inviting I sense an overnight stay despite only living 45 minutes away. The observations about décor are interesting as the hotel has chosen to go for a grey colour theme in the lounge/bar area which on paper might seem dreary but actually a sophisticated route which some seem unable to understand. The fact is the tones & co-ordinating fabrics are so cleverly chosen they create a restful ambiance. The world has moved on beyond chintz & magnolia.

Popped in for a quiet drink and bite to eat early evening. The bar was deserted, we had to literally call out for service. The really bright lights did nothing to create a welcoming atmosphere, needless to say we did not stay for the meal.

My husband has recently retired and I booked this hotel for a meal with all my children and grandchildren, we had a wonderful time, the staff are all very friendly and the service was first class nothing was too much trouble. The meal was fantastic and the room was very clean and very quiet for a hotel. I would recommend this hotel very highly, thank you Burford Bridge.
"Refurbished - Very Smart - Last year's Flood has done the place a favour"
12/01/14 CyprusGrumpy Reigate, United Kingdom
I had a most enjoyable lunch on revisiting the Burford Bridge. Now newly re-opened I have to say the refurbishment has been very tastefully done giving the venue a fresh welcoming feel. The decor is subtle and inviting , fresh and well lit. The Rooms are very tastefully furnished and the Restaurant is stylish comfortable and inviting. The staff were very accomodating and professional. The cuisine proved quite delightful nicely served beautifully presented. I felt the chef had got thngs just right. The restaurant manager recommended a beautifully flavoured french white wine chilled to perfection an absolute delight. I couldn't fault the meal on anything. The Burford Bridge has been restored to it's finest. A well revered property that has risen like a 'phoenix from the ashes' after the dreadful flooding this time last year . I would say the misfortune that befell upon the hotel has in reality been a blessing in disguise. Well worth a visit.

Stayed here for one night on Wed 26th Nov. did not arrive till late but check in was a breeze and very friendly with lots of info on eating times etc. Hotel had been closed for a referb and update and it certainly looks fab. Bedroom was fantastic and fully refurbished...and OMG the new Bed was heaven, so much so I asked for supplier details of the bed in the morning and going to purchase one for home. thou don't no if I could afford the same quilts and linen they use witch was Superb. Breakfast was amazing and I was spoiled for choice. Service was superb and I wanted for nothing. Top marks for the staff at this hotel. check out was swift and efficient and friendly. on checking out I was talking to receptionist about shame it was raining and cold as I could have sat on their superb patio, was advised I could have used their outdoor swimming pool in the summertime. OMG this place has a pool!!! seems I may be booking a week here for the wife and me in the summer. would I stay again?? Try stopping me :-) Thanks you to the staff for a Fantastic Friendly stay. What all hotels should be like.
"Excellent cuisine, good service, friendly but clinical atmosphere"
11/25/14 samhallart2013 Dorking
We did not stay in the hotel. My wife an I arrived unannounced at 9 p.m. and asked if it was possible to have dinner in the Emlyn Restaurant. The Maitre D' welcomed us warmly and with humour, said it was no problem, took our coats and showed us quickly to a table. The restaurant is spacious, tastefully decorated and furnished and the tables are beautifully laid. But the ambience is somewhat clinical. The lighting is from an array of small overhead spotlights which deliver a cold rather than a warm light that is rather dim, making it very difficult to read the menus, the details of which are printed in extremely small, light print on a coloured background. Indeed, the lighting over our table was so dim we almost needed a torch! What this otherwise attractive restaurant lacks is a sense of intimacy. It cries out for several large table lamps with warm lighting and red/orange shades around the sides of the room, an inexpensive addition that would make a world of difference. Having ordered, we waited for a good 15 minutes before the starters arrived - by which time the wine had not arrived! The Maidre d' was immediately attentive and came back with an 'upgraded' wine. I had the pork terrine (three corizo sized slices) which was tasty but not exceptional. My wife had three scallops, which were delicious. For mains, I ordered the calves liver with Dauphinoise potatoes and green beans. My wife had the mushroom risotto starter as a main course. The cuisine was excellent and our meals faultless and presented with great care. The wine menu informed us that the Mercure hotel prices its wines with a minimum margin, but the least expensive is still £21.50 for £5.95 for a 175 ml glass and £7.95 for a 250ml glass. One irritation was the cutlery. The forks especially are extremely difficult to hold and continually slip out of your hand. It seems they are designed not for the traditional British way of holding a fork, but for the American way of holding one in the right hand and used like a trowel. My wife's knife also kept slipping off the edge of her plate into the sauce! Other than that, though, this was a most enjoyable evening. The waitress was very attentive - perhaps a little too much so - but was not fully trained (being too anxious to clear away before we had finished). The food was delicious and beautifully . If I were able I would give three-and-a-half stars (with five stars for the chef). As I am not able to do so, I think four stars is fair. There is also a very comfortable bar and lounge area for pre and post dinner drinks.
"Lovely location but disappointing quality"
11/19/14 Benkei uk
I didn't check Trip Advisor before my visit but surprised now to find the hotel has been refurbished because my room was old and tired. I guess refurbishment was downstairs which is very clean and modern. Upstairs, my room was quite cramped and the wardrobe door was broken. The shower dripped all night. The window did not shut and was above the restaurant (and fans) so it was noisy. Since the window was open I was disturbed by staff moving bins and chatting. Smokers outside the restaurant meant that I had the smell of smoke through my open window. I ran the shower for 10 minutes with no hot water but probably a blessing as the bath had hairs in it. The toilet didn't flush properlly. I was confused at check in - no sign for reception but a table which I thought at first was some kind of internet cafe. Wasn't offered wake up call nor newspaper though the person in front was. I ordered room service (for £5 fee) and it arrived much more quickly than promised which was a nice surprise. Breakfast was lovely.
"Wow What a difference in 6 weeks"
11/17/14 Fraz103 Surrey
If I had been writing this review after our first visit since the refurbishment this year, then you would be getting a totally different review. We had stayed at the Burford bridge several times before it closed due to flooding and when it reopened in September we were very keen to return, and booked in for our anniversary on 24th September, all I am going to say about that is what a disappointment. We stayed again this weekend and all I can say is WOW what a difference six weeks has made. As I understand it the Manager that used to run it before the flooding has now returned and has the whole place back to where it once was, a delightful, well run hotel, that not only makes guest feel welcome and special but also is back to serving quality food that looks and tastes delicious together with excellent service We would like congratulating Mr Tijhuis and all his team for a wonderful job in such a short time and long may it continue. We will have no hesitation in recommending both the hotel and restaurant We very much look forward to returning, as this has once again become one of our favourite local hotel getaways
