Embassy Suites Hotel & Casino San Juan

Casino was not as advertised, very small and no craps tables. Manager's special had decent drinks but the snacks were disappointing, and the lines were way too long. Hotel overall was nice and close enough to the beach, and the pool was very nice.

We arrived early in the day, prior to room availability. Staff allowed us to check our luggage and gave us a guest pass to use the pool area. When we were given our room, and discovered someone had been smoking in it, the staff was great at reassigning us a true non-smoking room very quickly. Great pool, breakfast included (awesome bacon), short walk to the beach and chairs await. There were a lot of families and retired folks heading to and from cruises. Casino was empty and we ate offsite so no idea about food other than breakfast. A good value hotel and reliable with great staff.

Great location, a five minute walk to the beach. 15 minutes from Old San Juan. Hotel provides chairs, umbrellas, towels at the waterfront location. Nice pool with bar service.Pool area was never crowded. Easy check-in and check-out. Many restaurants in close proximity as well as several car rental agencies. Overall a great stay.

HOTEL ROOM WAS QUITE COMFORTABLE FOR 5 IN A ROOM, BUT WHEN WE CHECK IN THE BATHROOM SINK WAS CLOGGED, THE SHOWER WASN'T WORKING PROPERLY, AND THE SOAP DISH IN THE SHOWER WAS BROKEN, THE SINK WAS FIX WITHIN A FEW HOURS, BUT THE SHOWER WAS NOT FIX THROUGHOUT OUR STAY.

Stayed at Embassy SUites for 3 nights over the New Year, hotel was fantastic, staff friendly and the suite was very comfortable, small kitchenette, flat screen TV in bedroom and another flatscreen TV in the lounge area. A supermarket very close by and also an outback Steakhouse and another restaurant/bar downstairs. Casino not massive but big enough […] to entertain. Old San Juan a short taxi ride away, 15-20 minutes and about $20-25 (though there was little traffic as it was a holiday). Hotel pool is large with a bar and plenty of loungers and chairs, beach also nearby though we didn't venture there. Only real complaint was the additional 16% service charge the hotel hit us with on top of the price we paid. I would stay here again. Read more

Nice, comfortable, standard hotel. Generally very pleasant. I was frustrated by pool and hot tub closing at 10 PM, even on weekends. Also, no vegetarian food -anywhere-, but that's just Puerto Rico.

The front desk was very helpful and nice. The breakfast was good. The bed was very large and comfortable. My only 2 complaints--the gorgeous pool was freezing and the sofa bed was old and uncomfortable and the cushions didn't fit well. It's close to restaurants and the beach.

We stayed for a few days in December...the staff was very friendly and attentive. Everything was well maintained. Free drinks nightly are stiff but simple -- don't ask for anything special. You are paying for this as part of the 16 percent resort fee...probably worth it if you count ample breakfast, drinks and I think they even have a place on the beach […] with towels, but we did not use. Concierge helped out quite a bit with general info. The main advantage is the great location in San Juan combined with all the other stuff, if you are a middle of the road family or couple - Not bohemian like a guest houses or pricey like Condado. Supermarket and fast food within walking distance...Charlie car nearby. Pretty far from Old San Juan - but only 75 cents -- need exact change. It can be a long wait coming back at night - alternatively opt for a 20 buck cab ride. Folks outside of San Juan tourist areas don't speak English all the time, so brush up on your Espanol. Due to a late arrival, which the hotel was notified, and the room was paid for, the room had been given out to someone else. We were given the option to repack in the morning, and wait for another room the following day. The complimentary breakfast was fair, the happy hour consisted of a drink, chips and salsa. I will not judge all embassy suites by this one, but I will compare others, and read reviews thoroughly. This is the first time I have ever sent a negative review. My wife and I have traveled extensively in the Caribbean and Europe and I would have to say the Embassy Suites and Casino is the most "user friendly" hotel we have stayed at. Many places will nickel and dime you for every extra item, or you are held hostage by poor location and lack of affordable restaurants and have to spend $100 for a meal for two. […] This is not the case here - there is an Outback restaurant on the premises so you can eat in at your convenience. The staff is ultra friendly without exception, the complimentary breakfast is excellent and satisfies any appetite. The daily happy hour is generous and has a festive atmosphere with a wide assortment of families, couples, and business people relaxing and having fun. Love that strong Puerto Rican coffee and delicious made-to-order omelettes! The pool and sauna are well maintained but we prefer the Isla Verde beach which is only 2 blocks away. Since our last stay here in 2007, they have added a small concession stand at the beach (look for yellow flag) that distributes towels, chairs, and umbrellas to hotel guests for free. On the way to beach, try Mi Casita restaurant for authentic food. If you're into live entertainment, they have small combos in the casino area, but we preferred the ESJ Casino (10 minutes walk on the strip) for live salsa music. A word of advice, avoid taxis into town, take the bus for 75 cents and have lunch at "Raices" restaurant. At check out time, I was happy to pay the 16% hotel fee. Read more

About a block from the beach, easy walk, close to other resorts & restaurants. Car rental places around the area. Easy drive to highway and short drive to Old San Juan which is a must see.
