"A huge step down from what we're used to"
I don't mind if a facility is old. I can even overlook a bit of odor that exists in an old building. There is no excuse for filth no matter how many stars you have. Pubic hair from previous guests is simply disgusting, and they were numerous in our bathroom. The shower curtain rod was broken meaning it was impossible to keep the water inside the stall. […] I'd guess it's been that way for a long time even though I could see it was sagging at first sight. The TOILET SEAT was so old that it had turned yellow and was blistered and pealing. Gross! The carpet was disgusting. Your feet should never stick to carpet. The TV didn't work. The pillows were ridiculously lumpy and far too small. The TOWELS were lousy. They look like the kind you get at the General Dollar Store. I'll mention the decor even though I'm sure one could surmise it would be bad. It was. The "art" was faded and clearly from the 1980's. The bedding was tired and way out of date. The wall paper was ugly. The beds were okay but I wouldn't say comfortable. The only air conditioning was in the room which meant the minute you step into the hallways it's hot, humid and uncomfortable. The door to the supply rooms which were a mess and smelly stood wide open for the entire 3 days we were there. Guests should not feel utterly surrounded by a lack of cleanliness and care. We stopped here for a 1 night stay on our travels. They allowed us to check in late....the room a/c was set at 65 upon entering...brrrr! Our sheets had some stains in them and cigarette burns on the quilt. The tub dripped water throughout the night. "Looking at the bright side of FUN!"
Before I start my review, I want to say like so many people now-a-days, we wanted an inexpensive place to stay b/c we don't have a lot of extra $. With that said we enjoyed our stay @ this hotel and we very much looked at the bright side of things. When we arrived the staff was very pleasant. It smelled very musty in the halls, the room wasn't bad smelling […] though...the airconditioner was a little loud, but it cooled nicely. flat screen tv and a mini fridge! smile on my face. We had to get them to change the sheets, dog hair in them, yes I said dog hair.. frown face...looking at the bright side. NO BUGS. The room was clean enough, pool was relaxing, breakfast - skip it, unless you like nasty coffee and cheap honey buns. But hey there is a Cracker Barrel just up the street! Overall, those things weren't so bad, very little noise and it was right in the middle of most everything that we wanted to see! I would not expect a dampness removal bag hanging in my room filled up with water (which did nothing to pull the excessive moisture from the room. I got to the hotel a day late because my flight to Nashville was delayed (on Friday) due to terrible weather. The hotel would not honor my Expedia reservation on Saturday and wanted me to rebook with them, promising that they would refund my Expedia reservation right away on Monday once "the owners came in". This was from Misty, the front office manager. […] I begrudgingly said ok. Not surprisingly, Misty did not help me get the owners approval to process the Expedia refund even after my check out Monday. She told me to email and she will take care of it. She did not. Repeated attempts to call the hotel back during normal working hours (11am, 2pm, etc) was met with responses of "She's not here." and "She will call you back" which she never did. After 4 calls, I was finally able to get the refund done by calling Expedia and getting them to do it. The funniest thing is that on Sunday, I heard Misty tell some other guests "Yeah, its a shame that you will always get 1 or 2 people who post a terrible review online." with a tone like her hotel truly deserved the utmost praise. YEAH RIGHT. Maybe if you do what you promise, or if you returned the calls of your guests, you wouldn't get bad reviews. As for the property, the room was ok. The wifi is very spotty. Most of the outlets didnt work. The room looks nothing like the pictures. While it is a 10 min walk to the Opry, no one would walk. The location is very far to downtown and the sights. the first room we had was clean but had a wasp nest and wasps as there was a 1 inch opening around part of the window. It was in the middle of the building and there was also barking dogs in the room next door. The dogs were locked in the room and the owners were not present--against any hotels policy I believe. Had no problem checking in, clerk was very nice. The room had a nice smell to it. My wife and I started noticing problems right away. 1. The window lock was broken, 2. The a/c cover wouldn't fit, could see outside. 3. The drain plug in the sink was broken, had to force a rag down the drain to keep water in. 4. Called desk and they said they would send maintenance, two hrs. later no one showed went to desk and told them again what was wrong. The young man said he forgot to call. They said they had one maintenance man for two hotels. I went down half an hour later and talked to Mgr. They moved us to another room. The Mgr. was very nice and apologetic but we hadn't planned on driving 545 miles to sit in our hotel room waiting for the maintenance. They didn't offer us anything for the inconvenience. I was in Nashville for a job interview. I was needing a cheap but clean and safe hotel for the 1 night stay. This hotel was great. The beds were very comfortable. It is LITERALLY across the highway from Opry Mills hotel and the back entrance to the Opry Mills Mall. The "hot breakfast" that was described however consisted of toast, bagles, and cereal.
