"A little difficult to find, but worth the search"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Slightly difficult to find at first, but nicely updated and clean. Was very surprised that the kitchen was clean - you can just never be sure about public kitchens, but all of the appliances and surfaces throughout the room were clean. Hotel location is decent (obviously depends on what you are visiting for), but be mindful that it is on an airplane path (for Reagan) - its completely silent at night, but in full action starting at 6-7am.

see all hotels in Washington"Nice place, better if had free internet"
Our two rooms were nicely decorated with a cool vibe that you don't get from the other hotel chains, which tend to be more commercial looking. Loved the animal print robes! Bathrooms are not spacious, but well appointed. Our sink was a little slow. Nice shower. Most disappointing--internet was free if filled out a lengthy on-line questionnaire that […] asked for a lot of personal information. If choose not to divulge info about yourself had to pay $10 for internet access. It's 2012, almost everywhere offers free wifi! Read more

"Great neighborhood"
Beautiful quiet neighborhood. Convenient to Metro and thus almost anywhere you might want to go. Many good restaurants nearby. Our only small complaint is that the bed could have been more comfortable.
"Great price, perfect location - we'll be back"
We've traveled to DC dozens of times and have stayed in every neighborhood, but none have been as convenient as DuPont Circle. The Hotel Madera is the right price at the right price, with the style you'd expect from this part of town. Perfect for couples and biz trips, not a good fit for families with kids.
"Great boutique, well located"
I stayed at the hotel, and hosted informal client meetings. The Firefly restaurant was great for a lunch meeting, and the lounge area for meetings midday. Free coffee in the mornings and wine in the afternoon. I definitely will return.

hotel is doing renovations so visit was compromised. lack of extra pillows, closet space, room not properly cleaned. disappointing for a boutique hotel. our valet/luggage/service was exceptional due to one delightful employee.
Hotel was under renovations. But the staff was very good about stirring us around the mess. We will comeback. The wine hour was really nice. The only real issue was the pillows were like not having any.
"Hotel Madera -Will not try again"
The hotel was nice when my 2 friends and I first arrived. We arrived early and were told our room was being cleaned, so we went out to see the sites. Fast foward to 5pm and when we get back, our bags have been taken to our room, except it was not the room we paid for. I paid for a Non-Smoking Double (2) Queen beds with a Balcony. They gave me a King […] and roll out bed with the lame excuse that they were overbooked. Basically they gave our room away, with just a "sorry we overbooked". I was told that the manager was not on duty. What manager takes off a holiday weekend when you've overbooked your hotel? Does anyone anticipate unhappy customers? Needless to say we felt we were stuck with what we got (especially when the woman in charge that nite provided a final insult by attempting to move us to a room that smelled so bad my asthma kicked in). I spent 6 weeks overseas and even in a remote place like Easter Island, when they realized they made a mistake i got breakfast for free my entire 4 day stay. My first hotel back in the States and they can't find anyway to at least try to make me and my friends a little happy. No bottle of wine, no "dinner's on us". Nothing. Just a room meant for 2, even though there were 3 of us, an uncomfortable roll out, dogs barking in the rooms next to us, and construction in the lobby. OH, and they have the nerve to charge me $3.30 for a stupid can of ginger ale. Never again! Read more
"Madera, DC"
The hotel was having renovations done; which was not horrific. However, there was mold on the curtains, so when the AC or heater was blowing, the smell would spread in the room. Also, there was a dog barking for several hours in the hotel non-stop.

"Good service"
This small hotel in Dupont Circle gave me a boutique hotel feeling. The guy parking my car was also the one running food service. Everyone does everything. Pros and cons to that but the service was great. After 4 days I knew everyone and they knew my habbits and how I liked my room picked up. If you like the boutique hotels this Kimpton gives you that […] feeling at a great price and location. Read more
Only downside is price of parking.
"Hotel Madera in D.C. -- all-round winner"
The Hotel Madera is the near perfect boutique hotel -- great personalized service, attractive rooms, very comfortable beds. With a destination restaurant thrown in. In the bustling Dupont Circle neighborhood and two blocks from the Metro. I spent a very comfortable week long business trip there.

"Hotel Madera near Dupont Circle in Washington, DC"
It's hard to imagine a more pleasant stay than I experienced recently at Hotel Madera. The price was very modest, but the room was large, clean and tastefully decorated. The connected restaurant (Firefly) was terrific, and the short walks to Dupont Circle were quite pleasant. I recommend this without hesitation.
"Its ok but not the best kimpton"
I've stayed at the Madera twice in the last two months and while the rooms were clean and beds comfortable i think its one of the weaker kimpton properties. Its got the same great kimpton amenities.. ie $10 mini bar credit, free wifi which makes me a loyal kimpton customer but both times the shower faucet handle was broken or loose, the tub was a cheap […] fiberglass that flexed when you stood in it and i saw a roach in the tub. The rooms were spacious however there a roaring noise that either is from the elevator or nearby vent that roared throughout the evening. Overall, its ok for a short one night stay given the price but you can probably get the same at a courtyard type hotel. Also there is nothing there, nothing.. no deli, no drugstore withing reasonable walking. The metro is a bit of a hike too. Read more
"Madera is a very nice stay. Heart of DuPont"
Hotels.com had a great rate for a standard room and Madera upgraded us for no charge to a balcony room on the top floor. Nice view of DuPont.
"Great price, great hotel"
The room was very modern and clean. We loved the decor. Although the hotel seemed to be slightly understaffed, they were extremely attentive to our requests and responded instantly with great customer service. We ended up having to wait a bit for breakfast in the restaurant so that would be my only suggestion - let guests know they should make a reservation […] on weekends. Overall it was a great stay for a reasonable price and it's in a great location. I would definitely recommend it to a friend and stay there again when in the area. Read more

"Great place but a couple of thoughts"
A great place to stay. Close to Georgetown and DuPont Circle. Friendly and helpful staff. Leaky sink faucet that should have been fixed and if they tell you that they have upgraded you to balcony room, make sure it isn't the one right above the restaraunt. It was very noisy with lots of banging while we were trying to sleep. We also had a barking dog […] across the hall. Minor discomforts but worth mentioning. Kimpton outdoes itself with the amazing and helpful staff and I will be using the hotel and company again for future stays. A+ for free wine evening wine reception. Read more
"Good Hotel, Friendly Staff, Good Location"
Hotel was nice, quiet, clean and in a great location. The hotel staff were extremely nice and helpful. Only little complaint would be small shower. The restaurant attached was very good. I would recommend this hotel 100%.

"Hotel Madera- AMAZING!"
This is the perfect hotel. It is walking distance to many of the bars in DC. It's incredibly clean. The price was great and the hotel staff was extremely friendly. I've stayed in MANY hotels and I have to say this is up there in my favorites. Would definitely stay here again given the opportunity.
"Hotel Madera Washington DC"
Mybstay at the Madera was very good and typical of stays at other Kimpton hotels. Friendly staff, nice plusses (wine reception, quality restaurant, robes), good location, spacious room, etc. my only issues was that on the third floor there was a bit too much external noise from people waking by late at night. I am sure the higher floors nodding not […] have the sm problem. Read more

"Hotel Madera in Washington, DC"
The hotel staff went out of its way to make us feel at home in an intimate, beautifully-kept setting. It was the most gracious way to be able to visit Washington, in a neighborhood that I feel is the best in the city.

"Perfect location"
This is a lovely hotel. It is in the Dupont Circle area of Washington DC, very easy to get to all the great places in the city. The service could not have been better! The entire staff was so friendly and helpful! Beautiful neighborhood. I was so happy to be able to park my hybrid car for free!
"just about perfect"
The Hotel Madera had everything I was looking for while on business with my wife for two nights in D.C. The location is amazing--a block from Dupont Circle, but on a relatively quiet street; I could easily walk to meetings on Massachusetts Ave., K Street, and at GWU. Our room was clean, relatively large, and stylish. Although breakfast is not included, […] the Firefly restaurant next to the lobby is a chic and comfortable place, and the food was just delicious. And our dog Bijou, who came along for the trip, was greeted with a welcoming sign with her name on it and doggie treats in the front lobby! So she also had a wonderful time. I can't say enough about the Hotel Madera. Will definitely be coming back next time I am in D.C. Read more
"Hotel Madera in DC"
Excellent stay. Very easy going atmosphere at hotel. No hassle about anything. We will be back.
"Great but tea pls"
Hi - cant fault this hotel except that it really should provide tea and not only coffee for customers. english/Australians often prefer tea to coffee. But after staying in 2 kimpton hotels there were never tea facilities. Why not spend a few $$ and leave some tea bags in the room alongside the coffee.......
"Another great Kimpton!"
As all the other Kimptons have been, Hotel Madera was certainly no disappointment. Friendly staff, clean room and comfortably firm bed. Restroom/sink area was a bit small, but not uncomfortably. We stayed during the hurricane Irene, so the staff's help/support with our stay shined more. The restaurant in the hotel is very good as well.
"Hotel Madera - Excellent Location"
Conveniently located only a few blocks from DuPont Circle. The staff is great.
"Next time I'll bring my pet."
The hotel is very well located. I wish I had more time to stay. The Metro is nearby as well as restaurants. The staff was very helpful. My room was more than I asked for and that's rare. Everything was very clean. They need to do a few touch ups here are there, but overall, it was a great experience that I can hopefully repeat in the future. I LOVE […] that they allow pets. Even though I didn't bring mine I was able to enjoy the others. Read more
"comfy, designer hotel great service"
also have free parking for hybrid vehicles, how can you beat that? great location, surrounded by restaurants and right near a metro stop.
"Really Nice Hotel"
Had a really nice time staying at this hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful in any way possible. Manager Mike was fantastic, getting me into a room at Noon when we arrived earlier then expected.
"Great hotel in a convenient location"
We had a really good time staying at the Hotel Madera. The staff is super nice and helpful (especially Fernando) and you can't beat the free wine/sangria/snack happy hours. The hotel also has a great bar/restaurant and is in walking distance to most of DCs sites. We recommend El Chalan for dinner and 18th Street Lounge for drinks. Overall, a great weekend […] spent at the Madera. Read more
"Great value for the money"
I'd absolutely stay here again. The hotel itself is beautiful, the staff was courteous and professional, and the location is just outstanding. The room itself was a tad cookie-cutter - not much beyond what you'd get at a nice Best Western or similar big chain hotel. It was very nice, just maybe a tiny bit less than what you'd expect for the money. The […] location more than made up for it, though. To be able to stay a block from Dupont Circle for that price was outstanding. Read more
"Kimpton Is A Class Act!!!!"
Once again Kimpton has outdone themselves! From start to finish the staff, room and rest/lounge were all outstanding. Couldnt have been any better!!
"Hotel Madera first time guest"
Lovely hotel, lovely location.
"Hotel Madera DC"
The Hotel Madera is located a short walk from Dupont Circle, a vibrant neighborhood served by Metro. The room was stylishly done, with a huge panel TV (which did not matter to me because I did not watch it). Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant in the Hotel, Firefly, is one of Washington's more distinguished restaurants, and provides […] both wine and snacks for the wine reception. There are lots of other choices at all levels nearby. The balance of price, location, service, facilities, and amenities makes this a top choice for me. Read more
"Great Staff and Location"
The staff was so very helpful from the minute I arrived. The location was great, easy metro into D.C. and walking distance from Georgetown. I have already recommended the Madera to all my colleagues who do business in D.C.
"Highly recommended hotel with excellent staff !"
Beautiful hotel with very nice modern rooms. The staff is one of the nicest and most helpful that i have experienced. I travel a lot and this is one of my favorite hotels for many reasons. 1. The staff will handle everything a guest needs swiftly. 2. Free wine/drinks at a specific time everyday. 3. Great room design . 4. Location is perfect if your […] looking to stay in Dupont circle. 5. Well the list keeps going just book this hotel now and you will definitely return again. Read more
"Kimpton Madera Hotel-DuPont Circle"
Awesome experience. The room was very comfortable, the staff by far exceeded customer service expectations. The bed was comfortable and a good size. Would definitely return again, without a doubt....even if to just have conversation with the friendly staff again!
