We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Yes it is next to a project but we barely noticed it and no there were not police stationed in the hotel and it felt very safe. Yes you hear sirens at night because there is a hospital near by and you are in the heart of downtown. We had a spectacular view from our room overlooking the Chrysler Center and other monuments in Norfolk. The hotel staff was friendly and more than accomodating. The rooms were clean and renovated. Nothing but good things to say about this hotel.

The hotel had just reopened two weeks prior to my stay. So the staff was not trained, however they made up for it with hustle and willingness to please. My room had a light that did not work. All in all the staff made my stay as nice as they could while handeling renovation problems.

Worth the money

My only complaint about the hotel is that the bathroom lights were dim. Only 40 watt bulbs were in the lights and it was too dim to really see well. The bed was very comfortable as well as the pillows!!

My husband and I stayed here for our "In Town" anniversary night and we couldn't have been more satisifed. Because the hotel is undergoing renovations, we got the room at an amazing price. Walking into the lobby was like walking into a movie set for some grand hotel in New York. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive and our room was lovely. We were on the top floor and the view was great! The A/C throughout the hotel is a little iffy -- but it works just fine in the rooms and the restaurant. The wireless internet connection was spotty, but we weren't on it much. The continental breakfast was $5 and had more than enough variety for anyone (pastries, bagels, cereal, oatmeal with bowls of brown sugar and raisins, fruit, coffee, etc.) or you could order off the menu which was also really affordable. We loved this hotel and will definately be going back!

I recently stayed at this hotel for a conference. At first glance (the lobby), it looks very nice (newly remodeled). But, upon closer inspection...I was very displeased. The rooms smelled like mold, the wall air conditioning unit was old very loud, the hotel itself is right next door to public housing (you will hear police sirens nightly) and several floors did not have working ice machines. At the beginning of my stay, the outdoor pool water was a blue green so I reported this to the staff who said it might need to be treated. Two days later it was totally green. During my stay, I saw one ant and a long sliterly creature in my room, plus a collague staying in a room down the hall reported a roach sighting. I immediately asked them to fumigate my room, which I believe they did because I didn't see anything else. One of my Sleep Number beds was broken which resulted in a sunken feel in the mattress. Finally, my room was not cleaned every day. It was the strangest hotel experience I've had in this country! The staff was friendly, but I recommend that folks wait until it is totally remodeled and becomes a Crowne Plaza before booking a stay.

Do yourself a favor, Click the Back Button as quickly as possible. Run, do not pass go. If you don't understand english and decide to stay here, bring a gun to protect yourself or better yet just shoot yourself. THIS PLACE WAS AWFUL!!! Bueatiful Lobby....no way. Permanent Cops Stationed in Lobby...yes!!!

They were remodelling while I stayed. But even so, the rooms were super clean and comfy. They had a very nice bar on the first floor, a bit expensive but it was clean and nice. It was very quiet also. It was fairly cheap. I did not check out Norfolk, we stayed because it was only about 15 mins from Virginia Beach, and spent all of our time there. But the neighborhood looked very nice also. Lots of things I wish I would've had more time to see.

i am disappointed with my stay, hotel is dirty, i know that it is under renovation right now but did not try hard enough to make it more comfortable for their guests.

This one is a toss-up. It is a very beautiful hotel, however, the construction is extremely inconvenient. Check-in took awhile because there was only one person working at the front desk who was responsible for checking people in as well as answering the phone. I booked a smoking room with king size bed. I received a nonsmoking room with two double beds. Had to go four floors down to find an icemaker. Bathroom had no fan. Room had no microwave or mini fridge, which was advertised on here. Fitness Center is not onsite, it's actually a mile down the street. The pool took me 30 minutes to find because of the construction, even after asking several hotel employees who gave poor directions. The room, however, was quite nice. It looked recently renovated, so it had new curtains, bedding, carpet, bathroom flooring, etc.

Hotel still under renovation and although the rooms are ready the rest of the hotel is not. To much emphasis played on the decor and not the overall hotel experience. Staff not professional, room was not cleaned thoroughly prior to my arrival. Old beer bottles found in dresser drawers, hair on pillows, toilet was not sealed around the floor and constantly moved, no toiletries, cheap towels and inconvenient parking. All the security in the lobby was a little unnerving and although a certain room type was reserved and confirmed not available upon arrival and no manager on duty to address concerns.

The hotel is under construction, but we stayed in a room that supposedly had already been completed. You could see that fixtures, a/c, etc. were old and from original hotel. the toilet moved away from the wall everytime someone sat on it (even the 9 year old.) Parking was ridiculous, not able to use ramps, only parking on one side of the hotel. beddings (comforter) was unclean, you could see marks etc on them. Overall not impressed with this hotel. Hopefully once all renovations are complete, they will go back to the rooms and fix them.

Booked king bed room with fridge and microwave - got there and was told they didn't have king room - gave us 2 doubles. First room smelled like cat pee and big wet spot on floor. Second room (2 doubles again) smelled was smoking room and requested non-smoking. Third room was beautiful with 2 king beds (hmmmmm) but no fridge (in any of the rooms). They brought us a fridge a couple hours after checking in (we had to call twice). Free breakfast buffet was actually minimal continental breakfast.

I was very pleased with my stay. The room and hotel was beautiful and lovely. The staff was very nice. Location was perfect for my stay. The only item I found upsetting was the contenial breakfast that cost me $5.99 per person. The breakfast was not worth the $5.99 and I thought contential was normally free. I didn't getto see or use the pool but I am sure it was breathe taking like everything else was there. I would stay again just go out for breakfast.

The Hotel was still undergoing a lot of renovation and maintenance work which made some portions inaccessible but it should be a really nice place when all this is done. The lobby area is very large with nice tiled floor and coordinating wall decor. We had two separate reservations, both for one king bed in each room, and we received two doubles in both. That was disappointing but it could have been because they were only using the 9th and 10th floors when we were there. The location is great .. walk to Grandy Street pubs, restaurants, cafes, etc., as well as the Nauticus harbor museum area. Other small disappointments were: no glasses in the room, bill changers on vending machines on multiple floors did not work, parking lot closed or under construction, charges for very basic continental breakfast, restaurant hours very limited, bar closed early, no other amenities to speak of. But at a discounted rate, with proximity to everything in Norfolk downtown, it's ok as a place to stay. Use it as a base, don't expect it to offer anything beyond a bed.

the worst hotel experience I ever had, an hour and a half to check in with reservations, room was terrible, no paper products, no towels, nothing worked, no service, rude staff, poor design of room, no toilet paper holder, route to pool was through the construction area with dangling glass doors

The hotel room was ok...the bed was confortable (sleep number bed)and had the basic ammenities. We were there for the 4th of July and Harborfest and it was just a short drive to McCarthur Mall and right across the street from The Scope. We really didn't spend much time there so I don't know about the restaurant or pool. The hotel is undergoing renovations, but it was very quiet when we were there.

The hotel check-in time was advertised as 3:00pm. We arrived at 2:50pm and were told we would have to wait. They were finally able to give us rooms an hour and a half later. The rooms we requested (doubles, non-smoking) were not provided. Hotel staff were extrememly rude. No towels in the rooms. I will never stay here again.

We had an overall nice stay but when we first arrived the room we were given had not been cleaned. The bed had hair shavings on the pillow case and the sheets has stains. We called downstairs, they apologized and we got another room of equal value. The second room was nice and clean.

My son and I just stayed 2 nights here to attend a change of command at the Navy base. I knew ahead of time that the hotel was having maintenance issues. It looks like they are not using a decorator, they are going to Home Depot. All of the ice machines on the guest floors were not operational. The parking was free, but confusing. We parked where we were directed by the desk, and the next morning we were unable to leave until my son lifted the yellow construction tape that was blocking the exit. The price was right--the room was basic--the location was fine, we would stay there again. Don't expect pampering.

The hotel was currently under construction so some of the things we were hoping to enjoy were not available like the swimming pool.The lobby was absolutely beautiful. The room was clean and beds very very comfortable.All of the staff were kind and courteous. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and check out. We would stay there again because once the construction is completed the hotel will be a even more beautiful.

horrible hotel! customer service was rude , I stood there for about 20mins not a busy time at all , hardly anyone there and she stood there and said what. Very rude people the whole time. Overall do not go to this hotel!!

we went their and the pool had NO water in it our room phone was not working mildew in the shower and the nozzle just broke right off

The rating given to the conditions of the hotel is due to the current remodeling that the hotel is undergoing. We arrived in the middle of the painting, decorating, etc... The pool didn't seem inviting, but we were not there for pool time. It seem like it needed to be worked on. We got what we needed, good accommodations after a long trip. They were outstanding. The rooms were updated, modern and clean. We had free Wi-Fi. The staff, especially the evening crew, was friendly and very helpful on the phone and in person. This hotel should be really nice once they finish the remodeling project.

The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable The staff was very efficient. This is the second time I'be stayed at the hotel and while it's comfortable, the restaurant isn't great and there is a gate surrounding the building that is closed at night so that you have to walk to the very front - and up the car entryway - to get into the building.

Pros: Located downtown walking distance to a 3 level mall. 15 minutes from Virginia Beach (straight shot down 264). Sleep number bed was very comfortable Invigorating shower Cons: Maid service slack and rude Loud AC and never really cooled off room Ice maker did not work until the next day

This hotel is under construction and in very bad shape. Aside from a very friendly worker who checked us in, there was nothing positive about my experience with the hotel. First and foremost, we went there with the direct interest of laying out by the pool but that was NOT POSSIBLE due to the lack of water in the pool. So we went out and had a great time but when we came back to the rooms, the bathroom was dirty, the crappy, sorry I meant complimentary bottle of lotion was opened and half used, the toilet paper role was almost done and there was no replacement role in the room, the sleep number bed didn't work and was uncomfortable and in our friends room they had the same issues but also their shower controls broke off in their hands. I called and left a message for the manager on Sunday afternoon, it is Wednesday and I have not heard back from her. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!!!

the holtel was being remodeled so more than half the hotel was guted....the bar closed at 9pm and the pool had 2feet of water in it....we checked out with in 8 hrs of being there.

The hotel was great, it was only 15 minutes from Norfolk Naval Station where my husband is stationed, and right around the corner from a huge mall!! The beds were really comfortable, they were sleep numbers! I would definatly recommend this hotel to anyone! They have a secruity gate all around the hotel...the drive way to get up to the front door might be difficult for big trucks.
