it served it's purpose and it was clean enough but the towels were small, the soap oddly in foam dispensers, the blankets scarce, & the breakfast ended early. i got a discounted rate which made it all reasonable.. and the room was huge (though who needs a kitchen with no kitchenware?) we could have fit our entire traveling party in one sweet. anyhow […] i would stay here again if it were still an inexpensive rate. "Horrible, but to be expected at the price point."
For starters the place smelt like an ash tray. On top of that, the mini fridge didn't work. When I went to turn the tv on with the remote I got nothing. Thinking it might have just been bad batteries, I walked up to the tv to find out that the power button was completely missing, so no tv either. Instead of complimentary small soap bars, in the shower, […] they had a foam hand soap dispenser which had little to nothing in it. Floor to ceiling cracks in the wall must have been apart of the decor, because they were everywhere. Needless to say we stayed out in town eating dinner as long as we could before going back to the room to sleep for the night. If I could have gotten a refund I would have slept on the dirt at Barber Motorsports Park, that's how bad this experience was. The surrounding area consists of a completely run down and empty old Walmart shopping center, with a McDonald's about a quarter mile down the road. We thought we were going to be robbed at some point during our stay, but luckily we made it out with all out belongings. Definitely not a family facility by any stretch of the imagination. I understand we got what we payed for, but hopefully this review will urge you to plan ahead or bring a tent if your going to Barber Motorsports Park, the place is beautiful. Old apartments turned into a hotel - extended stay versus weekend trip. Old, run down and breakfast, while hot buffet versus continental, not well replenished and had to ask for coffee and juice. I will most likely NOT be staying here again. But I felt since the price was so reasonable I would check them out. Overall my experience was average but it is not a place you would want to take your family. Their shuttle service is not reliable, internet was not working during my stay, and there was major construction going on in the area that prevented […] us from using interstate 20 to get to the hotel (instead we had to use the neighborhood roads). The free breakfast was not anything to brag about and many residents were not able to eat since very little food was offered. Overall stay here at your own risk. "A bit run down but not terrible."
The hotel seems a bit older. It actually looks like an old apartment complex in layout with a number of separate buildings. Decor in the rooms screams 1980's hotel and I'm pretty sure that's the last time any of the room were decorated. Beds were rather bouncy. That could be good or bad depending on your plans. The first room had strong mildew smell […] (to the point that one of my companions developed a headache after only about 10 minutes). I spoke to the front desk and they happily relocated us to another room. The other room was actually much nicer. It still hadn't seen a decorator in 3 decades and still smelled a bit but is was tolerable. The new room was a suite and had a small kitchen (with full-size fridge, stove and dishwasher). There was only a smallish 19" tube-style TV between the two rooms. High-speed (wired) internet is available in every room so that's a plus. Wireless was there but not everywhere. Bottom line, if you want comfort like a Sheraton, don't look here. If you want something cheap and reasonably comfortable just to use as crash space and to eat a meal at the end of the day, you could do much worse. I give them a 4 for value and customer service but a 2 on comfort and condition. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"I will not go there again. I didn't feel safe."
The cost of my stay was, on the surface, a very good price. However, the things missing made this hotel just a place to stay on a business trip. The staff, when you could find them, were courteous and tried to be helpful. But the things that were either missing, malfunctioning or broken, was beyond their ability. The bathroom was ill kept and generally […] dirty. The carpet was lose throughout and kind of sticky. The phone in my room didn't have a cord. The window security locks were not functioning properly and could be easily opened. There was no climate control in my room available to me. There was advertised, a buffet breakfast from 6:30 AM till 9:00 AM included in the price of the room. The first morning, I had to finally leave and purchase breakfast elsewhere because the buffet wasn't open at 6:50AM. My last morning there I tried the buffet again, at 7:00AM and there was very little food left in the trays, and no attempt was made by the man tending the empty food containers to refill them. Most employees, although very polite, spent their time out of sight and out of earshot. When they were visible, it was outside smoking and it was difficult and intimidating to try and determine who were employees and who was just hanging out! There seemed to be a community of persons who stayed there long term who had pets that roamed around and lounged wherever they pleased. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Not a hotel"
This is not a hotel, it is a low rent apartment complex that has a combo of permanent residents and "hotel" guests. "Cheap rates, but concerned about safety."
I know I was searching for the cheapest bed for one night. So I guess I got what I paid for. The staff were quite cordial and professional in their demeanor. That said, here are the challenges I've experienced. The tv was the older tube type...I didn't even know they still work (well, the screen was shaded in blue no matter the channel). The bedding […] was slightly filmy in texture. I pulled my sleeping bag out of my car and slept on that on the bed. The bathroom lacked any toiletries beyond a mounted foam soap dispenser found in gas station bathrooms, and toilet paper. The tiles in the bathtub were separating from the wall to the point that I didn't take a shower, in fear of water causing further damage to the tile backing. When I woke, the pleasure was to find a warm/hot breakfast consisting of scrambled eggs and sausage patties. While there was sausage gravy, there were no biscuits- but the cook did offer to bring some fresh ones out. I declined. The eggs and sausage was tasteful and I got on the road, quick! The front desk put a $75 hold on my credit card for incidentals. But there was no fridge with consumables. So I assume it was for risk of inducing damage or renting movies. I am thankful for the cheap rate. And the staff were pleasant. I'm hopeful that with more resource allocation, this facility will be worthy of higher rental rates. As for the title, the lighting was dim in the room, even with all the lights on. But the security gate was stuck open. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Looks good in pictures, not in reality."
I have stayed at hotels that were less than attractive, but never one quite this bad. From the start, I noticed piles of dirt and wads of hair in the corners of the carpet, opted not to be vacuumed. The ceilings and bathtub were severely cracking, and the ceiling was peeling and falling to the floor. Bathroom sink was filthy, as was the tub. As for […] the bed, the pillows had brown stains on them underneath the pillow cases, and I dared not check the mattress. We just got to sleep, woke up, then got out. This hotel is in a horrible area of town. While the hotel may not be able to help some of this, the least they can do is actually keep the gate closed; it never once closed. At 2am, we heard people screaming from rooms and in the parking lot, followed by gunfire, which I am quite certain came from the area of the hotel. It should also be known that this isn't just a hotel, as it also doubles as short/long-term apartments for lower income housing. Do NOT drive to the back side of the hotel, as I am certain we passed a drug deal in progress when we were coming back to our room. Of the two women we met at the desk, one at least tried to be polite. The other, not so much. Well before our check-out time, housekeeping banged on our door as if an emergency, then opened the door so quick that I'm shocked the door latch didn't come off. I yelled back that we weren't dressed yet, to which she responded something I didn't understand. I would never stay here again. Horrible experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Older condo units needing some TLC. Go prepared"
The most outstanding feature of this hotel is the exceptional amount of space you have with separate kitchen, living/ dining area and a bedroom. Also the pet fee is very reasonable at $30 for the visit. I enjoyed the free wireless internet since I had recently paid fees at another hotel that really added up. It is a condo arrangement lots of yard area […] between the buildings. Parking is close to the door of the units. I had stayed at this facility 15 years ago and loved the layout. It has not been renovated since that time and shows a great deal of wear. The TV's are older but picked up cable stations fine (No flat screens here) and the remotes worked. Compared to other facilities, this was not the standard of housekeeping I expect. We stayed several days and after that "shock", (and picking up some cleaning supplies) we enjoyed our stay. The staff was friendly and very responsive. The area is quiet although the "extended stay" residents walking around were a bit concerning initially. After I realized they were not "transients" wandering around, I felt fine. Room service was amazing how fast they were and the food was good. Bed linens are changed on Monday, so don't expect more. Our blanket was torn but the spread and sheets were clean. The carpet was also very clean. Towels were replaced daily and you can request more that the 2 allocated. I used a candle and air fresher to address the mustiness. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"just say no"
The hotel was empty, bare, uninviting. It was hard to find our room with the instructions given. The numbers were not lit, so we had to walk around to each bldg and go up to see the numbers. It took a while. The room is an old apartment, with full kitchen, but completely empty, no amenities. We didn't even have soap in the dispenser in the bathtub. […] We booked this room because it said there was a restaurant and bar, but they were closed when we checked in (before 9). In the morning, when we checked out at 8, there was no coffee and when we went to talk to the staff about the soap, the 3 people there were talking among themselves and did not acknowledge me for some time. I was not given any reason to feel that this is a place that I would return to. We chose it because it had 1 more star than the Holiday Inn Express next door. Next time I will know better. For the money it is great. Full suite, with separate living and sleeping area. Large fridge, and stove. So it would be good for an extended stay and our price was very modest so great value. Very spacious accomodation. Two TVs so that much room. Breakfast is hot (ham and eggs). It is in a Quiet hilly area, close to Birmingham. The room is clean but […] some odor (not sure what, maybe carpets, in any case we got used to it quickly). The staff were friendly but this is not 5 star by a long shot..
