The location of Hotel Viking is very convenient, easy walk to downtown Newport and to nearby restaurants and shops. Recommend taking a car to see the mansions. The hotel room was tiny, even for my standards (I'm a 5'2" female @ 106lbs). The bathroom is even smaller, it reminded me of the bathrooms in cruise cabins. But we weren't in the room most of the time except to sleep so it wasn't too bad. Hotel staff was very accomodating. Everything was OK until we tried to go to sleep. First the room was 75 degrees and we could not get the air to work properly. Maintenance came to our room at 2:00 AM and got the AC working. The units sounded like tow boat motors...So loud and they did not work properly as the room did not cool off at all. Would loom elsewhere next time.

Not happy with front desk or service people. My room key would not work the 2nd day and when I went to have it fixed we were told it was because of its proximity to my cell phone in my pocket. A lie since the second key which I had left in the room since check-in didnt work either indicating they were turned off probably because earlier housekeeping […] had tried to enter my room even though I had the do not disturb sign out and I yelled at the woman. When we called later in the week to ask about charges seen on my charge card my wife was discourteously treated by a Nate after being bounced around on the phone for 20 minutes. Great hotel, conveniently located with short walk to the harbour, Wasgington Sq and Bellevue Avenue attractions. Small but well equipped gym. Visit in a spa highly recommended. I will definitely come back.

The hotel is centrally located and is quite pretty. My only complaint is that my heat wouldnt go beyond 68 and it was freezing the night i was there. But overall, a very nice place.

great hotel if you are not looking for a B&B. clean and very friendly with a very good location can walk to shops and restaurants by the water. valet and self parking but both at same price. i would valet, can be hard to find parking at the self parking lot.

Table lamp next to one side of bed had no visible outlet to plug into, therefore was unusable. There was only one othere light in a dark room. An automatic $15.00 valet parking service was not disclosed beforehand in hotel room description. Our car was never driven or moved by the valet. All he did was hold our keys for 30 minutes. We are still waiting to resolve the extra $80.00 charge to our bill after we had prepaid the room fee on line ahead of time, and used none of the other services. The stay was not worth the fee. We checked in on a Friday night and found no heat in our room. We needed to be moved twice (first time they gave us a room with a double bed when we paid for an upgrade). We finally settled in about midnight. The hotel did comp us for the issues. The remaining stay was OK. Nice hotel, but I will look to stay in a B&B next time in Newport.

Stay for a weekend in late November for an anniversary celebration. The hotel is very nice, room was great, very comfortable. The location made for an easy 5 minute walk down to the harbor, or to Washington Square. We had a 10 minute walk to a Pub on Broadway. We did not eat in the hotel restaurant, nor did we use the spa.

We found the hotel very comfortable. We had a function at the hotel it made the night very convenient. My wife and i stayed in one room and our two children stayed in an adjouning room. The pool was great the kids loved it. I would recommend it!

Hotel was quiet, clean and centrally located. We walked to all the shops, restaurants and cafe's. The only negative is the Viking charges $15 a day for parking, either you park it or valet = still $15 a day. Parking should be free for guests. The hotel also has a great little bar and live cool music.

Really fun location and very attentive staff, but the rooms are tiny, dark and insanely noisy. I like to have some relaxation and downtime in my hotel room, and I could literally hear the next door guest using his bathroom.

Great location -- two blocks downhill to the main streets of Newport and the wharves of small shops & restaurants. They offer valet and self-parking for the same price (made the decision to valet easy!) There was a wedding taking place at the hotel, so the lobby and hallways were busy with guests -- it only posed an issue during check-out because everyone […] seemed to be checking out at the same time. But that was to be expected and we weren't in a rush -- the person at check-in counter actually helped us check our bags while we went out to breakfast since the valets were busy with other guests. Fortunately, our room was at the end of the hallway, so we didn't hear other guests late at night as you might when there are a lot of wedding guests altogether. Would definitely return and RECOMMEND this hotel for other visitors to Newport! Read more
